Hotel Sacher Vienna: the Rote Bar, Viennese cooking and prices
The Rote Bar in Vienna is Hotel Sacher’s restaurant for Viennese cooking, served in a red damask room hung with large oil paintings and chandeliers, or in the winter garden that faces the State Opera. The chef, Anton Pozeg, holds 2 Gault&Millau toques for his Austrian classics.

The choice, in short
Why choose Hotel Sacher
Among the starters and soups, 2 dishes carry the Original Sacher name: the Original Sacher goose liver tarte, with elderberry, apricot and brioche, at €36, and the Original Sacher bouillabaisse with pikeperch, scallop, crayfish and mussels, at €26.
The holidaysWhen to look elsewhere
For a fine-dining tasting menu, the Sacher has the Grüne Bar, with set menus and international haute cuisine, open in the evening from Thursday to Saturday.
The caviarWhat the Rote Bar cooks
Beside the Viennese classics the menu sets fish and the season: gently poached sole with spinach, potato broth, lovage and chorizo and pan-seared sea bass with Gala potatoes, grains, romanesco and morel sauce cost €42 each, grass-fed beef tenderloin with braised lettuce hearts and Café de Paris €54.1
Among the Sacher traditional dishes, the braised beef roulade comes with homemade linguine and pickled cucumber mustard at €32, and the Viennese fried chicken with potato or leaf salad at €31. The escalope also comes plant-based, with parsley potatoes and mixed salad, at €39.1
The wine list leans on Austrian estates: among the whites by the 0.1l glass, prices run from the Gelber Muskateller at €8.50 to Franz Pichler’s Grüner Veltliner Kollmitz at €12.90, and Bollinger Rosé is €25.1
