Umaid Bhawan Palace prices buy a night in the palace where the royal family still lives, and from November to March dinner moves onto Pillars’ colonnaded terrace. On Tuesday 9 February Taj sells the room for 2 at ₹96,406; I’d come in mid-December.

Who it suits

It suits you if

You can come in mid-December: from the 13th to the 21st every night has a price, between ₹66,557 and ₹81,966, before Christmas Eve lifts it to ₹131,288.

Your dates fall in February or March: between mid-November and May 50 nights carry no price, 12 of them in February, and some of the priced ones reach suite level, up to ₹333,772.

Month by month

Winter is dearest, and some nights carry no price

Jodhpur’s palace is dearest in winter. On Google¹ a typical night costs ₹80,852 in November, ₹81,966 in December and ₹84,051 in January; February is the top, at ₹96,372, and March follows at ₹90,472. Then it falls away: ₹72,804 in April and July, ₹68,640 in May, ₹64,250 in June, ₹59,077 in August and ₹55,106 in September, the cheapest month.

The gaps sit in the months people want: from mid-November to the end of May 50 nights carry no price, 12 of them in February, and for those dates Taj’s reservations desk is the one to ask. Beside some of those gaps the price climbs to suite level. For Friday 19 February Taj, Agoda, Booking.com, Expedia.co.in and Hotels.com² all ask ₹336,000, and on Google the figure comes without the room; on 5 June, at Hotels.com, ₹295,885 buys a Royal Suite. At that height, ask whether a Palace Room is left before you pay for a suite.

On Tuesday 9 February Taj² sells its Double Room on the Best Available Rate, room only, at ₹96,406, with flexible cancellation⁴, and with breakfast at ₹99,474. Agoda, Booking.com and Expedia.co.in ask ₹96,404, 2 rupees less, and Bluepillow.in ₹96,372; on Google those come as a price alone, and their own sites name the room. For ₹34 there is no reason to leave Taj.

Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve change the sum. Taj’s own terms⁸ warn that a hotel may add a supplement on those nights, without saying how much; HotelPlanner¹⁰ lists gala dinners at ₹12,000 an adult on Christmas Eve and ₹40,000 on New Year’s Eve, paid at the hotel, and Luxury Escapes¹¹ gives the same ₹40,000. Before you book either night, ask Taj whether the dinner is compulsory and what it costs.

5 things to settle before paying

Phone about a date with no price
Taj’s reservations desk can tell you whether a night is open, and whether it comes with conditions.
Get the category in writing
With any seller, ask for Palace Room or suite by name, and whether the garden view is on it.
Ask if the dinner is compulsory
Taj’s terms warn of supplements on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and other festive dates, without an amount. Ask whether yours falls on one, and what it costs.
Know what a missed arrival costs
The hotel may charge the room and taxes for the whole stay to the card you booked with.
Book the car a day ahead
Reservations want at least 24 hours’ notice for a pick-up. Confirm the fare when you call.

What the entry room is and what a suite adds

The Palace Room⁶ is the entry: 42–48 m², king or twin, Art Deco, up to 2 guests, facing the gardens. Taj’s listing calls the entry rate a Double Room, so have the booking say Palace Room. The next step is the Historical Suite, 47–102 m², once quarters for visiting royalty: on 5 June it costs ₹96,990 at Hotels.com², about twice the room.

Which seller was cheapest, and is it the same room?

On 9 February Bluepillow.in, at ₹96,372, ₹34 under Taj; on 5 June goseek at ₹42,773, while Booking.com and Agoda ask ₹49,206. On Google none of them shows the room, so open it on their own site before you pay.

Why is my date missing?

Some nights carry no price at all. It does not tell you the palace is full, so ask Taj.

What do the gala dinners cost a child?

HotelPlanner lists ₹6,000 for ages 5 to 12 on Christmas Eve and ₹20,000 on New Year’s Eve, and Luxury Escapes gives the same ₹6,000. Taj’s own terms speak only of supplements on festive dates, so confirm with Taj before you pay.
