What do ChatGPT ads look like?

ChatGPT ads examples all share one shape: a card below the answer with the advertiser’s name and logo, a title, a line of text, an image and a link, labelled as sponsored. OpenAI’s description has not moved on that. A person sees one ad unit below a response, which may hold one image or several. All hotel examples on this page are invented, for hotels that do not exist, so that you can copy the method.

ElementThe limitWhat it means for a hotel
Title3 to 50 characters, 16 to 24 recommendedPreviews at 390 pixels wide cut after about 33, so finish the thought by then
TextUp to 100 characters, 32 to 48 recommendedPreviews cut after about 62: one fact, no more
ImageSquare, at least 640 × 640 pixelsSimple and clear; OpenAI warns against cluttered pictures
Several images4 to 6 square images in an open beta since 26 OctoberOne title, one link, and Learn more as the only button
LinkOne page per adThe page that answers the ad, rather than the home page

A short sentence from the system can appear with the ad. OpenAI says a model-written preamble explains how the ad relates to the conversation, separately from your title and text. And with creative enhancements on, the words a guest sees may be a rewritten version of yours.

What makes a good hotel ad in ChatGPT?

A good hotel ad names the guest’s situation in the title and gives one true fact in the text, the fact the answer above it left out. OpenAI asks for clear, specific, benefit-focused copy that says who it is for and when it helps, and warns against catchy lines. Its page on enhancements turns a general grocery line into one about quick weeknight dinners: same product, tied to a moment.

What 80 answers about hotels left open
  1. Gave a room rate

    0 of 80

  2. Ended by asking for dates or a budget

    75 of 80

Lumina panel: 80 guest questions written for this page, 40 in English and 40 in Italian, no hotel named and no exact dates; asked through the API with web search on 31 October 2026. An API model may differ from the consumer app.

You can fill that gap. The guest has been given names and asked for dates. The ad can say what the room costs in June, whether the dog pays, or at what time the shuttle leaves. Nobody has yet shown that this form brings more bookings, so treat it as a hypothesis to test. 4 tests help you write it.

  • Say it aloud

Would you say this sentence to a friend, with a subject and a verb? “Unforgettable moments await” fails on the spot.

  • Give something

The ad should already hold a fact. “Find out which room” gives nothing.

  • Leave the click a reason

Keep something back, such as the full price list or which rooms qualify, and never hide the point itself.

  • Check the page

Every number in the ad stands on the landing page, word for word, on the day the ad runs.

Run 4 kinds of ad side by side, because they do different work. A price ad answers what the conversation left open. A moment ad puts the guest in the place. An expert ad raises the doubt that decides, such as which rooms miss the evening sun. A check ad says what to confirm before booking. Keep them in separate ad groups if you want to compare them, since inside one group the system quickly favours one: at the Slovak hotel one ad of 4 took 64% of impressions.

That same test holds a warning. The ad with the highest click rate, a view photograph at 7.22%, took nobody to the cart. All 13 people who reached the cart came from the ad with a visible percentage discount, at 6.82%.

13 of 13

people who reached the cart came from the ad with the discount, none from the one with the best click rate.

An unnamed Slovak hotel, agency explor, 8 to 21 September 2026.

It is one hotel, but the lesson holds: judge an ad by what happens after the click.

Where do these situations come from?

They come from your guests’ reviews, which name their reasons for coming in their own words. Across 353,638 reviews of 1,097 properties in English and Italian, the situations a hotel could write an ad about appear thousands of times.

Lumina’s Atlas database, 353,638 reviews with text in English or Italian, 1,097 properties, read on 31 October 2026. Word matches, so a wedding may be someone else’s in the next room.

Do the same with your own reviews this week. Search them for those words and for your town’s events, count what comes up, and keep the situations with both a pattern of happy guests and unsold nights behind them. OpenAI’s hint guidance points the same way: use what you know about your best-fit guests and the situations that lead to good business. A wish to reach a group does not make you relevant to it.

What do good context hints look like for a hotel?

A good hint is one natural phrase that adds a need the ad and page do not spell out. OpenAI’s examples include an after-hours plumber with an $89 call-out fee, which shows the level of detail it means. For a hotel it might read like this.

Ad groupHint on what you offerHint on who it helpsHint on when it is useful
AnniversaryRooms with a private terrace facing the PantheonCouples marking 10 or more years togetherChoosing where to stay for an anniversary in Rome
Early flightShuttle to Malpensa from 4am with breakfast to goPassengers on a first-wave flight from MilanThe night before a flight before 7am
DogDogs stay free with a bowl and a bed in the roomCouples who travel with a large dogComparing hotels in Florence that truly accept dogs
Family skiSki school pick-up at the hotel doorParents with children under 6Planning a first ski week with beginners

One group, one need, one page. If a situation needs a different message or page, give it its own group. Update hints when the facts change, as OpenAI asks: a hint saying “open until 10pm” should die with the winter timetable.

Which page should each ad land on?

Each ad should land on the most specific page you have, with the promised answer on the first screen of a phone. OpenAI advises content pages over a generic home page, and most clicks arrive on mobile: 92.3% of impressions at Hotel Klimczok were mobile.

The Slovak hotel’s paid visitors stayed 64 seconds and saw 2 pages. Assume the same for yours. If the ad says 29°C and the page opens on a slideshow of the lobby, you have paid for a click to disappoint someone. Hotels’ own pages are also what the answer cites: in the same panel of 80 questions, 202 of 280 links went to them, which is why the study of 3,288 answers and the guide on how to get your hotel on ChatGPT start from pages. The full plan for a test is in the guide to ChatGPT ads for hotels, and setup is in how to advertise on ChatGPT.

What should a hotel never write?

Never write what you cannot prove, what any hotel could say, or what sounds like ChatGPT itself. OpenAI’s policy bars unfounded claims about pricing, outcomes and comparisons, false endorsements and imitation of ChatGPT’s voice or look. 3 more failures come from the writing itself.

  • The ad that closes its own question

“Worried about the car? We have parking.” The guest has everything and no reason to click. Say what it costs and where it is, and let the page do the rest.

  • The ad that hides the point

“The secret of this lake” teases and gives nothing. Say the problem, then keep back the detail.

  • A label instead of a sentence

“Luxury. Lake. Wellness.” is a list of categories. Nobody says it aloud.

Also leave out dates that will pass unnoticed, discounts that have ended and any competitor’s name, since the policy on brands and trademarks applies to you as well. Check every ad again before each season.

Questions hotels ask

What does a ChatGPT ad look like?
A card below the answer with the advertiser’s name and logo, a title, a line of text, an image and a link, labelled as sponsored. It may hold one image or, in an open beta since 26 October 2026, 4 to 6 square images.
How long can a ChatGPT ad be?
A title can run from 3 to 50 characters and the text up to 100. OpenAI recommends 16 to 24 and 32 to 48. On previews at 390 pixels wide, titles were cut after about 33 characters and text after about 62.
Can I put a price in the ad?
Yes, if it is true and stands on the landing page. A standard ad can carry one, and OpenAI’s policy bars unfounded claims about pricing. Prices move, so check them before each season.
Will OpenAI change my ad?
It can. Since 30 October 2026 creative enhancements are on by default: titles and text can be rewritten or translated and the destination page changed, with no preview of each version. You can switch them off in Manage settings.
Which kind of ad works best for a hotel?
Nobody has published a test on bookings. In the one public hotel test with figures by ad, a Slovak hotel’s ad with a visible discount brought all 13 people who reached the cart, while the view photograph had the best click rate and brought none. Judge an ad by what happens after the click.

Your hotel’s situations are already in your reviews

Lumina is the marketing team that knows your hotel. It reads what your guests write, finds the situations nobody is speaking to and writes the words for them in your hotel’s voice, and it will tell you when a fact is missing from your page. No result is promised, because none has been measured. Tell us your hotel’s name and we will show you what guests say.
