You’re coming for the concerts and counting francs: from 2 to 17 July a night starts at CHF 623 on Google, CHF 139 more than a typical August night.

The festival month

July has 16 dear nights; the rest of the year usually sits between CHF 390 and CHF 499

Outside July the palace moves little. On Google Hotels1 a typical night runs from CHF 390 in February, when 13 nights cost exactly that, to CHF 499 in December. On 20 November Riviera Noël11 opens, the Christmas market of over 170 lit chalets, and that night the price climbs from CHF 448 to CHF 532; until Christmas Eve the median night stays at CHF 507, CHF 70 above January.

July has a wall you can date. The Montreux Jazz Festival9 runs from 2 to 17 July 2027, and on Google 15 of those 16 nights start at CHF 623, 1 at CHF 686. The eve costs CHF 378 and the Sunday after CHF 363, the lowest night of the year.

3 nights cost nearly 3 times the median. On a Wednesday in May a night jumps to CHF 1,348, and the first room the hotel2 sells is the Signature Suite Lake View, 45 m², at CHF 1,769: that night the ordinary rooms do not appear. At the end of July, after the festival, 2 nights reach CHF 1,279 and CHF 1,348: get a room named before you believe them.

A Tuesday in February, seller by seller. The hotel2 sells the Fairmont City View Queen at CHF 534 on the flexible rate, room only, and Expedia.ch, Hotels.com and Trip.com ask the same CHF 534; Agoda CHF 454, Amimir CHF 448 and trivago DEALS CHF 390. On Google they show only a price: their own sites give the room and the cancellation term. Free ALL3 membership, Accor’s programme, opens a member rate up to 5% lower on the same room: at the same price, book with the hotel.

A guest in January 202613 expected more for CHF 400 a night: the spa was the saving grace, and if breakfast is not included CHF 45 for the buffet is hard to justify. Another, in December 2024, called a CHF 430 room a broom cupboard.

6 things to settle before paying

  • Say which side of the hotel you want

    City View means the town, and on the same night the lake costs CHF 80 to CHF 155 more. If you came for the water, ask for a Fairmont Lake View by name and check it on the confirmation.

  • Fix the room before the programme lands

    The line-up comes out in April 2027, with tickets around the same time. Ask for the rate and the last day to cancel before then.

  • Ask for your own rate’s deadline

    The hotel’s terms give 2 answers: the Family Offer says 24 hours before arrival, Swiss Perfection both 24 and 72. For the flexible rate get the date and hour, and check them on the confirmation.

  • Ask who collects the city tax

    With an agency, ask whether the CHF 9.50 per adult per night is already in what you pay or waits for you at the desk.

  • Ask what the hotel’s lower figure buys

    On Google, under the hotel’s name, a Tuesday in February also carries CHF 459, which comes without the room. Ask which rate it is and whether it cancels.

  • Ask what is held at check-in

    A guest in July 2026 wrote of a CHF 200 security deposit. Ask the amount, and how soon it comes back.

The Fairmont City View Queen4 is the entry: 20 m², a queen bed, a walk-in shower and Montreux outside the window. The City View King is the same size and takes a third person3, at CHF 684 on a Tuesday in February. That night the lake starts at CHF 644 with the Fairmont Lake View5, still 20 m², and CHF 694 buys the 30 m² Superior Lake View King, with its balcony.

In the hotel’s figure, yes, CHF 9.50 per adult a night, with VAT already in. Its offers quote a rate without it, so on those you add it.

Is breakfast included?

Only on a rate that says so: from the hotel the same room with breakfast costs CHF 90 more for 2, La Palmeraie’s CHF 45 a person.

Which seller was cheapest, and is it the same room?

trivago DEALS, on 19 January, 9 February, 6 March, 19 May and 18 July: CHF 390 on 9 February, CHF 363 on 18 July. On Google it shows only a price and its own site names the room: ask which room it sells and until when you can cancel before you set it against the hotel.

Is Expedia dearer than the hotel?

No: on those nights Expedia.ch and Trip.com match the hotel’s flexible figure to the franc, CHF 534 on 9 February. On Google they show only a price, so ask for the room before you take it for the same one.

Is the festival worth avoiding?

If you have no tickets, yes: the palace stands next to the concert venue, and from 2 to 17 July a night starts at CHF 623. The eve costs CHF 378 and the Sunday after CHF 363.
