Fairmont Royal York afternoon tea: CLOCKWORK, the menu and the weekend table
Fairmont Royal York afternoon tea is served at CLOCKWORK on Saturday and Sunday, noon–3pm, with reservations required. Come for scones and LOT 35 tea beneath the lobby clock.

Who should choose this tea
Come for
A first Toronto visit or a weekend celebration that leaves time to sit in the hotel’s main lobby. The menu gives particular things to look forward to: cranberry scones, smoked salmon on rye and a mushroom tart with fresh truffle.
The menuChoose another table when
A weekday afternoon, a late start, or a meal whose final bill must be fixed before you choose a date. CLOCKWORK’s public menu gives tea supplements but no current base charge for the complete tea.
Toronto alternativesWhy this tea belongs to Royal York
The lobby gives the afternoon its setting: an old railway hotel in the middle of the modern city, with the station immediately outside.
Royal York opened in 1929, and the hotel describes tea as a tradition stretching back to that beginning. CLOCKWORK now carries it into the lobby on weekends. In the official photograph, the table is crowded with tiered stands, patterned cups and Champagne flutes. It is an afternoon that invites you to remain inside for a while, even when the city itinerary is waiting.
The menu gives the familiar tea sequence a particular Toronto hotel version. Cranberry joins the plain scone; coronation chicken sits in a croissant; truffle appears with roast beef, egg salad and the mushroom tart.
Use the rest of the day around the table. Union Station is across Front Street, and the CN Tower and waterfront are within our measured walking routes. For a Pearson arrival, UP Express gives a 28-minute journey to Union; it announces replacement buses on 31 October and 1 November 2026. A weekend tea reservation should allow for that change if those are your travel dates.
The works affect the eastern retail promenade. The hotel notice diverts arrivals from the East driveway through Avenues. The main Front Street entrance remains open.
From the station to the scones
Keep the weekend sitting at the centre of the afternoon. There is room for a city walk before it, then a slower hour beneath the clock.
- Choose the weekend table
Start with the date in the official restaurant reservation. Saturday and Sunday are the days given for the classic tea. The table and a hotel room are different bookings: the tea page leads to its restaurant reservation, while the stay calendar sits elsewhere on the hotel website.
- Use Front Street
The current East Wing notice keeps the Front Street entrance open. Work on the retail promenade has changed movement through the eastern side: guests arriving through that driveway go by the Avenues level to the main lifts. The East Wing lifts cannot directly reach the lobby. Come by Front Street when that route suits your arrival.
- Begin with the pot
The menu’s LOT 35 selection goes beyond a single house blend. Imperial Breakfast is described as malty; Creamy Earl Grey adds a cream flavour; Masala Chai brings ginger and cardamom. Rooibos and Egyptian Chamomile are listed as decaffeinated. Darjeeling, jasmine, white tea and the Waterfront infusion have separately printed supplements, so the pot can change the bill.
- Read the fillings
Smoked salmon comes with whipped Boursin, pickled cucumber, capers, red onion and arugula on rye. Coronation chicken appears in a croissant with Branston aioli, red cabbage slaw and Granny Smith apple jam. The mushroom tart combines mascarpone, duxelles, shallot-tarragon marmalade and fresh truffle.
- Leave room for the scones
Traditional and cranberry scones arrive with berry compote and whipped cream. The sweets listed on the menu include maple-pumpkin cheesecake, strawberry-cream choux with rhubarb, elderberry panna cotta and a raspberry tart. Order for the menu being sold on your date: this is the selection read on 18 October 2026, and seasonal fillings can change.
Tea opposite Union Station
Royal York faces the station on Front Street. Our calculated route from the hotel’s mapped point to the CN Tower is 738m, around 10 minutes; Harbourfront Centre is 968m, around 13 minutes. Allow separately for the table booking and whichever entrance you use.

A room after the afternoon

A Fairmont King starts at 23 m² for up to 2 guests. Deluxe King begins at 42 m² for up to 3; the hotel’s complete room catalogue distinguishes 24 bed and suite variants. Fairmont Gold adds the 18th-floor lounge, breakfast and evening canapés. Those are Gold benefits; the afternoon tea at CLOCKWORK has its own table reservation. Our Google Hotels reading on 18 October 2026 showed C$420 for 16 November 2026, C$286 for 14 December 2026 and C$222 for 11 January 2027, each for 1 night for 2 adults, without a named room or itemised taxes. The indoor pool opens 6am–10pm, with family hours until 9pm.
All rooms and suitesA weekday or a later sitting elsewhere
These are different hotel tea services with their own hours, read from their official pages on 18 October 2026.
For Monday–Friday, EPOCH at The Ritz-Carlton offers noon–4pm. That makes it a practical alternative when the Royal York weekend service cannot fit your itinerary. Windsor Arms describes tea daily in its tea rooms, with gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian menus available with at least 24 hours’ notice.
For a weekend afternoon beginning later, Omni King Edward gives 12.30pm–5pm and a last seating at 4pm. Compare the actual menu as well as the clock. A savoury-heavy selection, a dietary requirement and a celebration can each lead to a different table; the hotel’s room rate tells you little about its tea bill.
