Appointments run out, and the pages read give no price for the sauna and plunge on their own.

Other Cape Town spas

3 Victorian houses by the pool, and a plunge at 6 to 8°C

The Librisa Spa stands in the hotel’s garden in Gardens, Cape Town, next to the main swimming pool.

The spa occupies 3 Victorian heritage houses in the grounds, which the hotel’s page describes as newly renovated. Both that page and the spa’s brochure count 8 treatment rooms; the page says one of them is a couples’ room and the brochure says 2. Around them are a steam bath, a Finnish sauna, a plunge pool the page gives at 6 to 8°C and a conservatory where herbal teas and what the brochure calls healthy snacks are laid out. The brochure invites its visitors to use them without charge during the visit.

The treatment the spa puts first is The Mount Nelson Rose: 90 minutes, from the soles of the feet to the muscles of the face, with hand-blended herbal poultices and an oil of rose petal and geranium, at R2,750. The African Wood massage, also 90 minutes, R2,500, combines stretching with wooden implements made for the body and the face, and takes its rhythm, the brochure says, from traditional African dance. The CBD-Infused massage uses a heated balm carrying 20mg of CBD, which the brochure calls the legal limit, with ylang-ylang, geranium and lavender: R1,980 for 60 minutes, R2,530 for 90.

The plain massages are cheaper. On the booking site Aromatherapy is R1,650 for 60 minutes and R2,200 for 90, Deep Tissue R1,700 and R2,300, Hot Stone R1,800 and R2,420; the Nurturing Mother-To-Be massage is R1,650 and foot reflexology R1,210 for 40 minutes. Among the body treatments, a 40-minute Renewal Body Polish costs R1,050 and a Relaxing Body Wrap R1,650, with a choice of 3 oils. Boutique Spa, 90 minutes for R2,850, lets the guest pick three 30-minute treatments from a back, neck and shoulder massage with cupping, a facial, a pressure-point foot massage and a body scrub. Essential Elements runs 120 minutes, through an exfoliation, a wrap, a milk and honey bath and a massage, for R3,050.

Facials come from 2 houses. Esse is South African, founded in 2002 and built on probiotics since 2009: the Express Facial is 30 minutes and R670, the Esse Experience 60 minutes and R1,290, the Live Probiotic Experience R1,700. With Biologique Recherche the specialist chooses the facial after analysing the skin: 60-minute treatments at R2,550 to R3,950, and the 90-minute Seconde Peau at R7,900. Under the same heading sits Anti Jet-Lag, a 60-minute back, neck and shoulder massage with a leg treatment, R1,550.

2 official price lists are in circulation. The brochure and the booking site agree on every figure above; the brochure prints its figures bare, with no currency sign, and the booking site prints them in ZAR, which we write as R. The hotel’s wellness page, under the word «Sample», shows The Mount Nelson Rose at 2,400 ZAR, African Wood at 2,200, the 60-minute CBD-Infused massage at 1,800, Essential Elements at 2,800 and the body polish at 900. The booking site is where an appointment is reserved online, and its prices are between 9% and 17% higher on those 5 treatments, on our arithmetic.

For a longer visit there is the Wellness Spa Package: the African Wood treatment, a lunch of 2 courses at Oasis, a 60-minute Esse facial and the spa’s facilities. The hotel’s page prices it at 2,800 ZAR per person and the booking site at R3,050. The brochure’s own «journeys» pair treatments: Garden of Hope, 90 minutes of Esse Express Facial and aromatherapy massage, 2,200 in the brochure and absent from the booking site, and Opulent Journey, a Biologique Recherche facial and an African Wood massage of 60 minutes each, R4,100. Journey of Discovery, 3 hours of facial, body wrap and massage, has no price in the brochure and is R4,100 on the booking site.

About 40 of the 2,000 Google reviews we hold mention the spa or a treatment, on our count. Between 29 November and 5 December 2024, 4 reviewers describe the same kind of day: a spa treatment and hours by the pool. A guest in September 2022 liked «especially the conservatory room». In April 2026 a guest who arrived to find the spa fully booked had a massage in the room instead, «through which I slept for nearly an hour»; a guest writing in German in April 2023, after 4 nights, had not managed to try the spa and put it down to non-residents booking appointments too.

5 things to settle before the robe

  • Reserve the time

Book on +27 21 483 1550 or on the booking site, which shows each treatment with its price. A reviewer in January 2024 advised booking the spa ahead, as for afternoon tea.

  • Arrive and change

The spa asks for at least 15 minutes to change. It provides a bathrobe, slippers, disposable undergarments, shampoo and body products; bring a swimming costume for the plunge pool.

  • Steam, sauna, plunge, tea

The steam bath, the Finnish sauna and the plunge pool are there to use during the visit, and the conservatory serves herbal teas and snacks.

  • Lunch at Oasis

Oasis, the restaurant by the main pool, serves lunch from noon to 3pm. The Wellness Spa Package puts a 2-course lunch there between its 2 treatments.

  • Give 24 hours’ notice

A change or cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice costs 50% of the treatment, a no-show all of it. A late arrival gets the time that is left at the full price.

Who gets the sauna, and for how much

3 hotel spas across the city, each as its own page had it on 11 October 2026.

The Librisa’s brochure sets no minimum spend for the sauna and plunge. The Twelve Apostles opens its spa pools and lounge to a booking of R1,450 or more per person, and adds a Rasul chamber. At Cape Grace on the V&A Waterfront a non-resident needs a treatment of 60 minutes or longer, or pays R1,200 an hour for the facilities alone, which include a salt room and a heated outdoor pool.

One&Only Cape Town, open from 8am to 8pm as Cape Grace is, prints its ages: over 12 for a treatment, over 16 for the hydrothermal rooms.

Mount Nelson spa: your questions

Can you use the Mount Nelson spa without staying at the hotel?

No official page says so in words. What the sources show: the spa’s booking site is public and lists every treatment with its price, the hotel describes its Wellness Spa Package as a half-day spa and dining experience, and a guest in April 2023 wrote that people not staying at the hotel were given appointments. Ask on +27 21 483 1550 before counting on it.

How much is a massage at the Librisa Spa?

From R1,650 for 60 minutes of Aromatherapy to R2,750 for the 90-minute Mount Nelson Rose, on the booking site on 11 October 2026. Foot reflexology starts lower, at R1,210 for 40 minutes.

Is there a day pass for the sauna and plunge pool?

None is published on the pages read. The brochure offers the facilities free «during your visit» and does not say whether a visit must include a treatment.

How cold is the plunge pool?

6 to 8°C, according to the hotel’s page. Swimwear is the one thing the spa asks guests to bring.

Can 2 people have a treatment together?

Yes, in a couples’ room: one according to the hotel’s page, 2 according to the brochure. A guest in June 2025 wrote of a couples’ massage taken between afternoon tea and check-in.

Why does the hotel’s website show lower prices?

The pages read do not say why. The hotel’s wellness page lists a few treatments under the word «Sample», such as The Mount Nelson Rose at 2,400 ZAR; the brochure and the booking site both give 2,750 for it.

Is the tip included?

No. The brochure says prices exclude gratuities, which are at the guest’s discretion.

Can I have a massage in my room?

One guest did, in April 2026, when the spa was full. The brochure and the booking site list no in-room treatments or prices, so ask when reserving.
