From the platform to the hall
At Milano Centrale the trains come in upstairs. By May 2026 the old travelators had given way to new escalators, which take about 40 seconds between the ground floor and the platforms, according to MilanoToday.
Of all the hotels near Milano Centrale, Excelsior Hotel Gallia is the one facing the main entrance across Piazza Duca d’Aosta. Step off the train, cross the square and you are inside a 1932 Art Deco palace; the walk from the main entrance takes 3 minutes.

You are coming or going by train, at dawn or late at night, and want a spa with a pool 3 minutes from the platforms.
The shuttle to La ScalaYou want to stroll out to the Duomo and La Scala, or a quieter address than a station square: Portrait Milano and Palazzo Parigi are in the centre.
Other hotels nearbyThe Gallia opened beside the station in 1932, and the 2 buildings have been eyeing each other ever since. The treat is to go up to the top of the hotel and find that same facade laid out below you.
It opened in 1932 at the western end of Piazza Duca d’Aosta, beside Milano Centrale, says Marriott: an Art Deco palace, later joined by a steel-and-glass wing designed by Marco Piva.
Marco Piva’s studio also produced more than 500 works of art for the hotel, paintings, sculpture and photographs among them, and under the original dome is the Cupola, a room whose 23 armchairs fold away into the floor.
The sixth and seventh floors belong to water and rest: 1,000 m² of Gallia Health Club and Shiseido spa, with its covered pool and salt room. On the same level is Terrazza Gallia, which Gambero Rosso rates at 2 forks.
Can you hear the station from your bed? We read 7 of the hotel’s official pages and the sites of 7 nearby hotels, watched the 8 videos in this guide, then combed the 999 Google reviews with a text for noise. 13 describe a quiet room, and 12 of those also mention the station outside. Those who do hear noise from outside name the tram more often than the trains, the station or the metro. One guest in 2023 advises a room facing the station, since the tram runs along the back.
Off the train, across Piazza Duca d’Aosta, and you are there. In the evening it is the pool, open until 9pm, or the terrace bar, open until 12.30am; tomorrow’s train leaves from just across the square.
At Milano Centrale the trains come in upstairs. By May 2026 the old travelators had given way to new escalators, which take about 40 seconds between the ground floor and the platforms, according to MilanoToday.
Out through the main entrance and across Piazza Duca d’Aosta: 188 metres to the hotel door, measured on OpenStreetMap’s streets. The Pirelli Tower watches from the far side of the square.
Your room is ready from 3pm, according to Marriott. If your train is early, your bags wait in the luggage room, which Booking.com lists among the hotel’s services.
The pool and whirlpool come with the room and stay open until 9pm, says the spa; the gym never closes. The sauna and steam room are a small mystery: 2 guests on Google found them included, a December 2025 video found them charged extra.
7 floors up, the bar at Terrazza Gallia stays open until 12.30am, with the floodlit facade of Milano Centrale in front of your glass.
The breakfast buffet opens at 6.30am on weekdays, says the restaurants’ site: time for a coffee before the platform. For Malpensa, a direct Malpensa Express took 56 minutes and cost €15.
3 points on one square: the hotel door, Milano Centrale’s main entrance 3 minutes’ walk away, and the metro 1 minute away.

Off a train, 2 things matter: how far you haul your case, and what you see from the window.

Many rooms look over Piazza Duca d’Aosta and the station’s facade, says Marriott. The 54 m² Panoramic Suites have floor-to-ceiling windows trained on the station, and in the official photographs it also fills the window of a 30 m² Prestige room. In September 2026 a couple asked for a balcony over the station and found the room surprisingly quiet. The sizes come from Booking.com, since Marriott shows them only once you have picked your dates.

A search for hotels near Milano Centrale opens on Booking.com, Trivago and Tripadvisor, then the pages of the hotels around the station, and ChatGPT, on the same day, recommended the iQ Hotel Milano, the NYX and the Gallia. The Principe di Savoia and the Westin Palace, the area’s other 5-stars, stand on Piazza della Repubblica, 14 minutes away.

Minutes on foot to Milano Centrale’s main entrance, on Piazza Duca d’Aosta, calculated on 27 September 2026 with OSRM’s foot profile on OpenStreetMap’s streets, from each hotel’s entrance or, where OpenStreetMap maps none, from the hotel’s point. 3 hotels have a nearer side entrance: from the NYX the Piazza Quattro Novembre entrance is 3 minutes and 195 metres away, from the Hilton 5 minutes and 384 metres, and from Starhotels Anderson the Piazza Luigi di Savoia entrance 5 minutes and 356 metres; from the Gallia the Piazza Quattro Novembre entrance is 2 minutes and 176 metres away. Of the 999 Google reviews with a text, 199 mention the station or the trains, with an average of 4.6, and nearly all of them for the convenience. 13 describe a quiet room, and those who do hear noise from outside name the tram more often than the trains.
Walking times, luggage, airports, prices, rooms and the area: what people ask before they step off at Milano Centrale.
Just 3 minutes to the main entrance of Milano Centrale, 188 metres from the hotel door at number 9 Piazza Duca d’Aosta, and 2 minutes to the side entrance on Piazza Quattro Novembre, 176 metres. We measured both on 27 September 2026 on OpenStreetMap’s streets, and a second calculation, with Valhalla, gives 2 minutes. Google says 3 minutes and Booking.com between 335 and 427 metres, to another point of the station; Gemini, the same day, said one or 2 minutes, which is really the walk to the metro: the Centrale FS entrance with a lift is 102 metres away.
By the new escalators, which had replaced the travelators by May 2026: MilanoToday times the ride from the ground floor up to the platforms, on the upper floor, at about 40 seconds. Before that come 188 metres of square between the hotel and the main entrance. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out by noon, says Marriott, and Booking.com lists a luggage room for a train after check-out.
For Malpensa, take the train: on 27 September 2026 a direct Malpensa Express linked Malpensa T1 and Milano Centrale in 56 minutes for €15. Linate is about 8 km away, according to Marriott. Buses for Malpensa and Orio al Serio leave from either side of the station, as OpenStreetMap shows. There is no hotel airport shuttle: Booking.com lists one among its most popular facilities, but Marriott says there is none.
By metro: Centrale FS is a minute from the door, and on the M3 the Duomo is 4 stops away, as the line’s maps show. Or by the hotel’s free shuttle, which reaches Piazza della Scala in 10–15 minutes, from 9am to 8.20pm, according to Marriott; you book it at reception or with the concierge. On foot, La Scala is 33 minutes away and the Duomo 39.
For 2, on the official site, anything from €363 on a November Saturday to €532 on an October Wednesday. On 27 September 2026 Google Hotels showed it asking €532 for Wednesday 14 October and €448 for Saturday 17 October, while the cheapest reseller came down to €444 and €354; €363 for Saturday 7 November and €376 for Saturday 5 December. On top comes the city tax, €12 per person per night in 5-star hotels, paid at the hotel; under-18s are exempt.
One on the square, and Marriott says many are. For the widest view, the Panoramic Suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows; if a room will do, the official photographs show a 30 m² Prestige with the station framed in its window too. In September 2026 a couple took a room with a balcony over the station and wrote that it was worth it.
Hardly any of the Gallia’s guests describe it as unsafe, though a few do. Of the 199 Google reviews that mention the station or the trains, the average is 4.6 and nearly all praise the convenience; in September 2026, though, 2 guests on Tripadvisor did not feel at ease around the station. Arriving late, you have 188 metres of square between the main entrance and the hotel door.
Yes, until 9pm; after that the spa is shut. The pool and whirlpool open from 8am to 9pm, says the spa, and come with the room, as does the gym, which never closes. On the sauna and steam room the sources disagree: Marriott says only that they open during spa hours, 2 Google reviews describe them as included, and a December 2025 video says the spa costs extra. Treatments are extra, from €170 for a 50-minute massage, and the spa asks you to book them ahead.
