The nights worth marking

Why November means paying for a junior suite

The Hof’s ground floor is being rebuilt with a new bar and restaurants, and during the works¹⁶ the Hof and the Palais take bookings only at weekends, on floors 3 and 4. Until mid-December, on weeknights, the simplest room on sale is a junior suite in the Quellenhof or a Spa Loft in the Tower⁶, and nearly every night costs CHF 833 to CHF 884³. A Saturday can come in well under that, when the Hof puts its rooms back on sale.

The Comfort Room returns on Saturday 19 December¹⁰ at CHF 578, and from then on most of the year costs less than November. From late January to the end of March weeknights start at CHF 485³, May and June mostly stand at CHF 536, July and August at CHF 595. Between Christmas and New Year the hotel sells only stays of several nights, and a single night has no price: ask the hotel how many nights it needs.

The proof comes on Tuesday 9 February²: the hotel asks CHF 485 for the Comfort Room, less than any seller on Google, with Reserving at CHF 527 and Booking.com at CHF 665. Booking.com calls its room a Comfort Double Room, but on Google it gives no cancellation term: its own site does. Ask for the total and the last day to cancel, and set them against the hotel’s rate on the same terms.

A guest in October 2025¹⁷ settled the room bill in pounds and found CHF 144 added at check-out, with no warning.

5 things to settle before paying

Ask what is open on your dates
A new bar, an Italian and a Thai restaurant are due in the Hof from December 2026, so ask which are open before you plan your dinners around them.
Settle the bill in francs
Pounds and dollars are converted at a daily rate the hotel¹⁸ sets, so ask at the desk what it costs before you hand over your card.
Read Early Booker twice
It is charged in full within 24 hours of booking, and a cancellation costs the whole stay: the CHF 85 saved is worth it only on fixed dates.
Count back 30 days
For some arrivals around Christmas the Daily Rate cancels free only until 30 days before, instead of 7: ask the hotel which applies to your dates and diarise that day.
Ask whether breakfast comes with it
Anyone staying at the resort gets into the Thermal Spa and the Tamina Therme free; breakfast depends on the rate, so ask any other seller.

The conditions, line by line

Cancellation	Daily Rate and Stay & Dine: free until noon 7 days before arrival, though for some arrivals around Christmas the Daily Rate needs 30 days; after that the whole stay is charged. Early Booker cannot be cancelled.
VAT and tax	Every price at the resort includes VAT. The visitor’s tax, CHF 4.60 a person a night, stays outside the rate.
Deposit	On the Daily Rate a credit card holds the room. Early Booker is paid in full within 24 hours, by bank transfer if you prefer.

What the entry room is, and in which house

The Comfort Room¹⁹ is at Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz: 35 m² for 2, a king-size bed of 180 × 210 that becomes 2 beds on request, a marble bathroom with bath and shower, and in some a balcony over the garden or park. One step up, the Deluxe Room⁴, 45 m², costs CHF 670 on the Daily Rate on 27 January. Grand Hotel Quellenhof starts at the Junior Suite Deluxe, 50 m², at CHF 930 that night; in the Tower the Spa Loft Superior, 60 m², with a whirlpool in the room, costs the same CHF 930. If you want more space at that price, ask for the Tower.
