The 9 holes below the hotel and the Masters course

The Jack Nicklaus¹⁰ is a par 35 of 2,655 metres: fairly short, but its narrow fairways wind and its hazards are placed with intent, so it asks for accuracy over length. It has been named the most beautiful 9 holes in Switzerland 4 times.

It began as the club’s second course in July 1951¹⁴, on the Xires field, and became the Jack Nicklaus in the summer of 1988. The hotel, as it happens, stands on Route des Zirès³.

Golf has been played at Crans-sur-Sierre since 1906, when the first 9 holes opened. The Severiano Ballesteros¹¹, a par 71 over 6,274 metres, is the course the Spaniard redesigned¹⁴ for the professionals of the Masters: the new layout was unveiled in summer 1999 and took his name in 2002.

A guest in August 2023²³ found the course within walking distance, “a paradise for golf lovers”; another, in September 2026, came for a golf weekend and names the spa and the pool among the things that were great.

The hotel opens for the ski season⁷. The spa has an indoor golf practice area⁸: CHF 40 a day with the gym, and private golf lessons on request.

The hotel’s summer 2027 dates are worth asking for. In 2026 its season⁶ ran from 12 June to 21 September, and the Ballesteros high season from 27 June to 27 September¹³.
