Le Sirenuse, Franco’s Bar Positano: shut until April, and nobody books
Franco’s Bar in Positano is shut until April, and the first day of 2027 is still to be announced. When it reopens you queue like everyone else, with no reserved tables; the last drinks list, from April 2023, had cocktails at €25.

Who Franco’s Bar is for
Why go
A drink outdoors with no thought for what to wear, between the lemon tree and the yellow urns, the mountain behind the bar.
The listWhen to look elsewhere
An evening on a timetable does better at Aldo’s, on the hotel’s terrace, where a table can be booked.
The other barsA car park with a view
Until 2015 this was the hotel’s car park6. Franco Sersale, Le Sirenuse’s arbiter of style, died that January at 87, travelling, but not before solving the wall: 2 masonry curves dipping from a central column like ropes, with 2 glass panels set into the gap, so the view stays whole.
His son Antonio finished the job. The bar now goes by its colours6: the “Selenium Yellow” of Giuseppe Ducrot’s fountain, and the Neapolitan sea blue of Paolo Calcagni’s furniture and of the tumblers Carlo Moretti makes by hand on Murano.
The white comes from Fornace De Martino’s floor tiles6, fired in Salerno so near the limit that another 10 degrees would have melted the terracotta. The walls are repainted every winter, which is the season you are stuck waiting through.
An evening at Franco’s Bar
- The date
The 2026 season began on 4 April4; look to the bar’s Instagram for the first day of 2027.
- Opening time
In July 2025 the bar reopened at 5pm5, the latest hour it has given; for this season’s, ring +39 089 8121891.
- The queue
Peak hours fall between 7pm and 11pm2. Hotel guests go to the front7; everyone else waits.
- The view
The tables on the view seat 2 and go to the first 3 couples12: one traveller queuing 20 minutes before opening, on a high-season weekday, ended up in the row behind. Guests also describe a minimum spend13, higher at those tables, so ask what applies before you sit.
