Luxury hotels on the Amalfi Coast

Of the luxury hotels on the Amalfi Coast, I have chosen 3, each for a different way of living the coast. Le Sirenuse is for Positano from a terrace, 6 minutes on foot from Spiaggia Grande; Il San Pietro for a private beach at the foot of a lift cut through the rock, 2 km from the village; Caruso, in Ravello, for an infinity pool and gardens 350 metres above the sea.

Which to choose

What matters is where you want to be in relation to the sea: in the village above Spiaggia Grande, on a cliff with a cove of its own, or high up in Ravello. All 3 close for the winter, on dates that differ from one to the next.

The hotels

3 hotels, 3 eras of the coast: the Sersale family’s 18th-century house in the middle of Positano, a hotel since 1951; the one opened in 1970 inside the cliff at Laurito, with a lift down to the sea; and the 11th-century palace on Piazza San Giovanni del Toro, in Ravello.

Frequently asked questions

Which luxury hotel on the Amalfi Coast has a private beach?

Il San Pietro: a lift cut through the rock runs from the lobby in 45 seconds to a cove with a sun deck, a bar and a jetty, for staying guests only and open from 9am to 7pm. Le Sirenuse has no beach in the village, though Spiaggia Grande is a 445-metre walk, and the hotel has a sea club at Nerano, Le Sirenuse Mare, which guests say they reach on its boat. Caruso stands 350 metres above the sea: a free shuttle at set times goes down to Amalfi.

When do the Amalfi Coast’s hotels open and close?

All 3 are seasonal. On Le Sirenuse’s official calendar, read on 8 October 2026, the last night of 2026 is 31 October and the first of 2027 is 27 March. Il San Pietro was selling the same last night and reopened sales from 9 April 2027. Caruso closes from 18 October 2026 and announces 15 April 2027 for its reopening, although its calendar was already selling 13 and 14 April.

How much is a night in a luxury hotel on the Amalfi Coast?

It depends on the date, and only the season’s nights are on sale. On the official booking engines, read on 8 October 2026 for 2 adults: at Le Sirenuse the Courtyard Room started at €640 on 25 October 2026 and €1,750 on 15 June 2027, before tax; at Il San Pietro a night cost €715 on 25 October 2026 and €3,971 on 1 June 2027, tax included; at Caruso €945 on 12 October 2026 and €2,760 on 16 June 2027, with breakfast and tax.

Can you arrive by car, and where do you park?

Yes at all 3, which is not a given on this coast. Il San Pietro has free, guarded parking on the coast road, and a shuttle to Positano at any hour. Le Sirenuse has no garage: the car reaches the door and valet parking costs about €100 a day, to be requested ahead. At Caruso the FAQ gives valet parking as free for guests, while the MICHELIN Guide reports €40 a day.

Which hotel has a heated pool?

Le Sirenuse has an 18-metre pool on its terrace, lined in 2024 with a mosaic by Nicolas Party and heated throughout the season. Caruso’s infinity pool is heated too. The pool at Il San Pietro, on a terrace sheer above the sea, is open from 9am to 6pm; no source we read says whether it is heated.

Which Amalfi Coast hotels take children?

Caruso at any age: its FAQ offers babysitting and connecting rooms. Le Sirenuse takes children from 6, and its spa from 16; Il San Pietro from 10, because of the hotel’s position on the cliff.

Do hotels pay to be in the guide?

No. No hotel pays to be in the guide or for the verdict it gets, and Lumina earns nothing from bookings.

Written and checked by Lumina, independently of the hotels it names. Lumina sells no rooms: every link leads to its source.
