Il San Pietro suits those who want a beach of their own and Positano by free shuttle; the lowest seller on Google showed €3,120 for one night for 2 adults, 5–10 June 2027. Anyone who wants sand underfoot or Positano at the door may prefer another hotel.

For the view of the village I would ask for a Prestige room with Positano view: its large furnished terraces overlook the town, the Li Galli islands and Capri, in 85 to 90 m² including terrace and bathroom.
The weeks that cost less
In the calendar read on 13 October 2026, a night of the week of 25 April–1 May 2027 runs from €1,193 to €2,071 on Google, against €3,954 to €6,079 in the week of 17–23 June 2027.
The boat to Positano
A water shuttle to Positano leaves the beach-club dock at set times between 9.15am and 10.15pm, sea permitting. Ask at the front desk for times and booking.
What Il San Pietro is
Il San Pietro is at Laurito, on the Amalfi coast road between Positano and Praiano. You enter beside a 17th-century chapel dedicated to Saint Peter and go down: the MICHELIN Guide, which gives it Three Keys, describes a hotel one room deep, the cliff at its back and a sea terrace in front of every room. It opened on 29 June 1970 and still belongs to the family of its founder, Carlino Cinque.
People come for what Positano lacks: space, and the sea within reach. The lift cut through the rock takes 45 seconds to the beach club, Carlino restaurant and the tennis court by the water; up top are the pool, the bar terrace and Zass, which holds a MICHELIN star. The shuttle to the village, the morning cruise, yoga and the cooking lessons come with the stay.
It helps to know how it is made. The beach is a pebble cove with loungers on a rock platform, a Classic room measures 22 m² with its terrace, and the village means a shuttle or a boat. Anyone who wants sand underfoot or Positano at the door will be happier elsewhere. It is among the dearest hotels on the coast: on the official calendar, read on 8 October 2026, a July 2027 night started at €3,256.
Two Lumi
Lumina Guide 2027
Exceptional: two of our three readings say so.
Since 1970 the Cinque family’s hotel has stepped down the cliff at Laurito, 2 km from Positano: a lift through the rock leads to a beach kept for guests, and up top is Zass, with one MICHELIN star.
Every room is different and each has its own sea terrace; we found hand-painted majolica, a lobby roofed in climbing plants, kitchen gardens that supply both restaurants and a tennis court by the water.
Our reading, point by point
What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

Rooms
All different, all with a sea terrace; Classic and Deluxe measure 22 and 26 m² terrace included, and for more space you start at Elite, from 40 m².
Food and social life
Zass has a MICHELIN star, Carlino sits on the water and the gardens supply both kitchens; at Zass the 7-course tasting menu is ordered by 9pm.

The stay as a whole
On the official calendar from €715 a night in late October 2026 and from €3,256 in July 2027, with a good deal included.
What makes it rare
A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.
Here: the general manager greets guests by name every day; at breakfast a waiter, seeing a guest had started eating, took his coffee away and brought a fresh one when the meal was over.
347 of the 351 guests who write about the staff and service are pleased. 18 hotels of 335 hold it.
What do Il San Pietro’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
Location
Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write of the cliff away from Positano’s crowds, the view from every terrace and the shuttle or the boat that takes them into the village.
Room
Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests single out the sea terrace, furnishings that differ from room to room, the majolica and the air conditioning.
Staff and service
Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests describe staff who use their name and remember their habits, the beach club, tennis by the sea and the free morning cruise.
Breakfast
Every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Breakfast is a buffet served at Zass, with bread from the hotel’s own bakers: guests remember the variety, the sea view and the waiters, who notice how each of them takes their coffee.
Price
The stay includes the Positano shuttle, the morning boat, yoga and the cooking lessons, and guests who write about the bill start there.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 24 September 2025 to 7 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay on the Amalfi Coast: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 8 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against on the Amalfi Coast:

Hotel Santa Caterina

Price: for two on the night of 7 June 2027, from €3,120 (seen on Google Hotels on 13 October 2026).
Choosing between Il San Pietro and Le Sirenuse
Il San Pietro suits those happy to stay outside the village and reach it by shuttle along the coast road. Le Sirenuse suits those who want to be in Positano itself, with Spiaggia Grande 6 minutes’ walk away and the ferry terminal 8.
The lift leaves from the lobby and arrives at a cove the hotel calls the only private beach in Positano: loungers, a bar, the dock for the boats. It is kept for guests staying at the hotel and opens daily from 9am to 7pm.
The restaurant looks over the sea and Praiano. Its kitchen has 32 cooks, working with vegetables from the hotel’s own gardens, and the cellar holds more than 600 labels. Men need long trousers; the 7-course tasting menu is ordered by 9pm.
Named after the founder, it stands beside the beach club: handmade pasta, grilled fish, lemons. You reach it by the lift or on foot down through the gardens, and a limited number of outside guests may book.
The Terrace Bar opens from 8am to midnight, among majolica benches and urns of flowers, facing Positano, Praiano and the Li Galli islets. Bits & Bites, a 3-wheeled Ape that arrived by helicopter, serves the snacks.
From May to mid-October the hotel’s boat leaves at 11.30am for 2 hours along the coast, with a swim stop and a cocktail. It is free, booked at reception, and stays in when the sea is very rough.
The gardens cover half the property: 10 terraces cut into the rock and 400 stone steps from the lobby to the beach. 4 gardeners grow fruit, vegetables and herbs there for both restaurants, certified organic.
Good to know before you book
The hotel is seasonal: generally April to October, says its site. On the official booking engine, on 8 October 2026, the last night on sale was 31 October 2026 and the first of 2027 was 9 April.
Guests are accepted from the age of 10, because of the cliff setting. On pets, ask before booking: the room pages rule them out, the FAQ accepts small ones.
You go down to the sea by the lift cut through the rock, 45 seconds by the hotel’s count, or on foot down 400 steps through the gardens. Beach club and pool are for guests staying at the hotel only.
The stay includes the shuttle to Positano at any hour, the morning cruise, the tennis court, yoga or Pilates at 9am and the cooking, pizza, cocktail and Italian lessons. From Premier rooms upwards the minibar too.
On booking the hotel asks for a deposit of one night: it is refunded if you cancel more than 30 days before arrival, while in the final 7 days the whole stay is charged.

Reviews of Il San Pietro di Positano: what the guests say
The platforms’ scores, read on 7 October 2026, and what guests say about the beach, the service, the food and the bill.
On 7 October 2026 Google showed 4.9/5 from 2,411 ratings, 95% of them 5 stars; Tripadvisor 4.8/5 from 1,576, with value at 4.5. These are accounts of stays we have not checked.

Google
Coffee at the right moment
In October 2026 a guest describes breakfast: her fiancé orders coffee and starts eating, the waiter notices, takes it away and brings a fresh one when the meal is over. For her that sums up the staff.
In August 2026 a guest gives 2 stars: every noise from the sea, the road and around could be heard in the room, and a cruise ship playing loud music late kept them awake. Not for anyone after quiet, they say.
In August 2026 a guest who chose the hotel for its beach club, and went down every day, found the pool smaller than expected but peaceful. She warns that the lobby has no air conditioning and praises the cooking at Carlino.
In May 2025 a guest notes that the sea is either a 420-step path or a lift, 80 metres in 50 seconds. His wife dislikes enclosed spaces and staff rode with her every time.
In November 2025 a guest, happy with room and service, reports that on the last evening a plumber let himself in without knocking while he was changing. On leaving, management offered the shuttle, which he thought too little.
In June 2024 a guest praises the service at Zass but finds the tasting menu, €165 a head, bland and overpriced; in May 2025 another calls it inventive and rooted in local produce.
What people ask before booking Il San Pietro di Positano, answered from the sources read on 7 and 8 October 2026.
What kind of hotel is Il San Pietro di Positano?
A family-owned 5-star hotel and a member of Relais & Châteaux, built inside the cliff at Laurito. It opened on 29 June 1970, Saint Peter’s day, as Campania Secrets recalls; in 2025 the hotel marked its 55 years. The MICHELIN Guide gives it Three Keys, and its restaurant Zass holds one star.
The MICHELIN Guide counts 57 rooms, the New York Post of June 2025 counts 55 rooms and suites and 200 staff; the official site prints no number. In 2026 La Liste ranked it among the world’s 10 best hotels with 99.5 out of 100, reports Italia a Tavola.
What are the rooms like, and how big are they?
There are 9 types, each with a private sea terrace and each furnished differently, according to the official rooms page. They start with Classic rooms of 22 m² and Deluxe of 26 m², then Elite from 40 m², Premier from 50 m², Signature from 60 m² and Prestige from 70 m². The largest are the Prestige rooms with Positano view, 85 to 90 m², Carlino’s Prestige room at 92 m² and the Virginia Suite at 120 m².
The sizes include the terrace and the bathroom, the site specifies, and are given as approximate: the room itself is smaller than the figure. All have a minibar, safe, Wi-Fi and television; Classic rooms have a shower, Signature and Prestige both shower and bath.
Where is it, and is the area quiet?
At Via Laurito 2, on the SS163 Amalfi coast road and below it: the pool and Zass look to Praiano, the bar terrace to Positano. The contact page puts it 1.5 km from the centre in one line and 2 km in another.
The hotel stands apart from the village and the MICHELIN Guide files it under quiet addresses.
How far is the centre of Positano, and how do you get there?
By the hotel’s free shuttle, which the facilities page says runs at all hours of the day and night. By car the calculation gives 3 minutes to the Sponda stop, on the coast road, and 12 to Piazza dei Mulini by a longer way round, 5.8 km; guests speak of a ride of 5 to 10 minutes.
On foot along the coast road, calculated on 8 October 2026 on OpenStreetMap’s roads: 1,950 metres and 26 minutes to Sponda, 2,206 metres and 29 minutes to Piazza dei Mulini, 2,424 metres and 32 minutes to the church of Santa Maria Assunta, above the Spiaggia Grande. A second routing engine gives longer times, 34 to 40 minutes.
There is the boat as well: a shuttle leaves the beach club dock at set times between 9.15am and 10.15pm, sea permitting, and reaches Positano’s harbour in 5 minutes, says the New York Post.
How do you arrive from Naples, from Salerno and by sea?
By car, Naples airport is 65.6 km and 80 minutes away without traffic, Napoli Centrale 59.4 km and 66 minutes, Salerno station 40 km and 46 minutes, Salerno airport 58 km and 58 minutes: times calculated on OpenStreetMap’s roads, which the coast stretches in summer.
The concierge arranges private transfers from Naples, Salerno and Rome, says the FAQ, and to avoid the traffic recommends a car to Naples or Salerno and then a boat. The hotel has its own dock: you land at the beach club and take the lift up to the lobby.
Is there parking?
Yes, free and guarded, kept for guests: the contact page and the site’s FAQ both say so, and Tripadvisor and Booking.com confirm it. Guests describe it at the entrance, on the coast road beside the chapel, where staff meet arrivals.
After that the car can stay put: the shuttle to Positano comes with the stay, whatever the hour.
How do you reach the private beach?
By a lift cut through the rock from the lobby: 45 seconds, according to the Carlino page. The other way is on foot, down 400 stone steps through the gardens, says the gardens page; 2 guests count 420 and 430, and one puts the lift’s run at 80 metres.
At the bottom is the beach club, a natural cove with a sun deck, a bar, the dock and platforms for getting into the water, kept for guests staying at the hotel and open from 9am to 7pm, according to the facilities page. The beach is pebble, and a guest of April 2025 warns that it is rocky. Wi-Fi does not reach the beach, Booking.com notes.
What is the pool like?
There is one, outdoors, on a terrace sheer above the sea and facing Praiano, with sunbeds and bar service, for guests only: so says the facilities page. The Virginia Suite has its own way in.
The site gives no measurements. A guest of August 2026 describes it as small and very peaceful. The Google Hotels card also lists a hot tub and an adults-only pool, which the official pages do not mention.
Is the pool heated, and when is it open?
It opens daily from 9am to 6pm throughout the hotel’s season, according to the facilities page. No source read says whether it is heated, or to what temperature.
Where do you eat, and is breakfast included?
In 2 restaurants. Zass, one MICHELIN star, cooks Mediterranean food with vegetables from the hotel’s gardens: its autumn 2026 menu offers a 7-course tasting for the whole table, up to 6 people, ordered by 9pm. Carlino, by the sea, is more traditional. Both take a limited number of outside guests.
For drinks there are the Terrace Bar, 8am to midnight, and L’Alcova, 3pm to midnight, with snacks from Bits & Bites on the terrace, according to the bars page. Breakfast is a buffet served at Zass, with bread from the hotel’s bakers, who start at 4am: Google Hotels shows it as included in the rate and a guest of May 2026 confirms it.
The menus on the site carry no prices. A guest of June 2024 paid €165 a head for the tasting at Zass, and one of September 2023 reports a minimum spend of €90 a head, drinks excluded, for outside diners. The site says nothing about half board.
What is the spa like?
Small and tucked away: the wellness centre sits under a lemon grove, with treatment rooms, a Finnish shower and a Turkish bath, according to the well-being page. The gym has equipment indoors and out, half of it under the lemon trees with the coast in view.
The site publishes no floor area and mentions neither a sauna nor an indoor pool; Google’s card, too, speaks of a Turkish bath and massages. Every morning at 9am there is a free hour of yoga or Pilates on the lawn by the sea.
Is the spa included, and can non-residents use it?
The gym and the morning class are included for guests staying at the hotel. Treatments are charged; the spa menu lists the steam bath, open 9am to 7pm, with no price beside it.
The site publishes no day entry for non-residents: there is no spa day pass, and the beach club and pool are declared for residents only. Outside visitors can book the 2 restaurants and the terrace bar.
What are the spa and gym hours?
The wellness centre is open daily from 9am to 8pm and the gym from 6am to 8pm, as the 2025 treatment menu prints. Treatments are booked on extension 311; cancelling needs at least 4 hours’ notice, or the full price is charged.
Which treatments are there, and what do they cost?
The 2025 menu runs from €150 for the 20-minute zone massage to €400 for the 80-minute 4-hand face and body ritual. The house facial costs €300 for 80 minutes; 50-minute massages, from Swedish to hot stone, €200 or €220, and €300 in the 80-minute version.
The products are an Italian line free of animal derivatives, silicones and parabens, on sale at the spa. There are also a maternity massage, one for under-16s, manicures and pedicures.
Can you bring children?
From the age of 10: every room page warns that, because of the hotel’s setting, younger children are not accepted, and the booking engine repeats it. The site describes no family rooms or extra beds, and the engine takes 2 adults a room.
For older children there are the cooking and pizza lessons and a massage of their own. A family of May 2025 describes their children happy between jumping off the beach club platform, the pool and the gym.
Are pets allowed?
Only small pets are accepted, and they may not enter the common areas, according to the hotel’s FAQ and its booking page, read on 15 October 2026.
Tripadvisor lists pets as allowed; Booking.com says, on the same page, that they are allowed with a possible charge and that they are not. No source publishes a fee.
What is there besides the rooms?
The beach club with its dock, the pool, a regulation tennis court between the rock face and the sea, free and booked through the concierge, the spa, the gym and a boutique next to Zass, according to the facilities page. The hotel has 2 boats to charter with a captain, the 51-foot Dreamer and the 44-foot Joey II.
The free activities include the Italian course in 4 lessons, the cooking class, the pizza class, the cocktail class and the guided visit to the gardens; the wine tasting at Zass is charged. The kitchen, rebuilt in 2016, is all-electric, on induction.
Are there offers or packages?
The site has no offers page. The FAQ says only that for long stays the reservations office may consider tailored terms.
A good deal is already in the rate: shuttle, boat to Positano, morning cruise, tennis, yoga and lessons. On the booking engine some nights ask for a minimum stay of 3 nights, for example 26 to 29 June 2027.
Can you get married at Il San Pietro?
Yes, on a small scale. According to the FAQ, weddings and parties are normally held at Carlino and the spaces beside it, occasionally at Zass, and must be agreed in advance with the management; large receptions are ruled out. A symbolic ceremony, with no civil or religious validity, is available for a fee and by reservation.
Events with few guests are possible from April to October, larger ones only at the end of May, in the first half of June and in September. The hotel may require the couple to stay, and will consider a buy-out. The site publishes neither prices nor capacities.
Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?
No: the hotel is closed at New Year. The season generally runs from April to October, and on the official booking engine, read on 8 October 2026, December and January had no nights on sale.
Are there golf packages?
No: no official page mentions golf. The hotel’s sport is tennis, on the court by the sea, with rackets, balls and a coach on request, according to the facilities page.
When does it open and close?
“Generally open from April to October”, answers the FAQ, without dates; the MICHELIN Guide says the same. The dates can be read on the site’s booking engine: on 8 October 2026 the season’s last night on sale was 31 October 2026, leaving on 1 November, and the first of 2027 was 9 April.
For 2027, nights from April to August were on sale, some dates already closed, while September and October had not yet opened for booking. In winter the reservations office answers Monday to Friday, 9am to noon and 1pm to 5pm.
How much does a night cost?
On the official site, the booking engine’s calendar read on 8 October 2026 showed, for 2 adults and one night with taxes: €869 on 15 October 2026, €715 on 25 October and €792 on 31 October, the season’s last; then €935 on 9 April 2027, the first on sale, €2,101 on 1 May, €3,971 on 1 June and €3,256 on 21 July.
The calendar shows the lowest rate still available, without naming the room: when only the largest are left the figure climbs, to €6,501 on 16 October 2026 and €8,140 on 16 August 2027. On Google Hotels, read on 7 October 2026, the cheapest seller for the same October nights asked less: €720 on the 15th, €618 on the 25th and €712 on the 31st, taxes and fees included.
What do the reviews say?
On 7 October 2026 Google showed 4.9/5 from 2,411 ratings, 95% of them 5 stars; Tripadvisor 4.8/5 from 1,576, second of Positano’s 40 hotels, with location and cleanliness at 4.9 and value at 4.5; Booking.com 9.9/10 from 105. The Telegraph rates it 10 out of 10.
Guests return to the staff, who remember names and habits, to the beach club and to the view from every terrace. The rates are among the highest on the coast, and the village is reached by the shuttle or by boat.
Are taxes included in the prices?
On the official booking engine each night carries 2 figures, before and after tax: for 8 October 2026 they were €990 and €1,089, that is 10% more. The Google Hotels figures for Italy are totals: for that night Booking.com’s link carried €1,097.88 of which €99.78 tax, Expedia’s €1,198 of which €118.
No source read says whether the Comune di Positano’s tourist tax is inside these figures or paid at the hotel.
What are the check-in and check-out times, and how do you cancel?
Check-in is from 2.30pm and check-out by 11.30am, according to the FAQ; early arrival and late departure are requested on booking and depend on availability.
The deposit equals one night, taxes excluded. It is refunded if you cancel or change more than 30 days before arrival; from 29 to 7 days before it is lost; within the final 7 days, for a no-show or an early departure, the hotel charges the entire stay.
