Caruso suits couples who want Ravello’s gardens and village life, with nights for 2 from €1,054, the lowest any seller showed on Google for one night. For a holiday spent stepping straight onto a beach, I would stay by the sea.

What Caruso is
Caruso fills an 11th-century palace on Piazza San Giovanni del Toro, at the top of Ravello, beside the church the square is named after. It has 17 rooms and 33 suites between the main building and the garden wing, salons with 18th-century frescoes and gardens stepping down in terraces to the pool. Belmond now calls it «Caruso, A Belmond Hotel, Amalfi Coast»; anyone searching for Belmond Hotel Caruso will find the same hotel.
People come for the height. The heated pool looks over the gulf from 350 metres; Villa Rufolo is 5 minutes’ walk and Villa Cimbrone 13. A stay includes the week’s activities, from morning yoga to pasta lessons, the shuttle to Amalfi and, according to the hotel’s wedding factsheet, boat excursions. The MICHELIN Guide gives it one Key.
On the official site on 8 October 2026 the least expensive room ran from €945 a night in mid-October to €2,760 in June and September, and the restaurants add a €10 cover charge a head. For a swim in the sea you go down to Amalfi or take a boat.

The scores come from 431 Google reviews with text, left from 29 January 2013 to 7 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay on the Amalfi Coast: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 8 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against on the Amalfi Coast:
Palazzo Avino
Le Sirenuse
Il San Pietro di Positano
Hotel Santa Caterina
Borgo Santandrea
Price: for two on the night of 22 April 2027, from €1,054 (seen on Google Hotels on 13 October 2026).
Choosing between Ravello and the coast
Caruso is for a stay in Ravello with the shuttle down to Amalfi; Le Sirenuse is for Positano, with Spiaggia Grande 6 minutes away on foot and an uphill walk home. Il San Pietro is for reaching the beach club by a lift through the rock, with a private dock beside it.
One pool, outdoors and heated, its edge vanishing towards the sea with the Lattari mountains behind. Around it are loungers, cabanas and a bar; mornings start with yoga here, and Caruso Grill next door serves lunch from 12.30pm to 4pm.
The hotel’s restaurant opens every evening from 7.30pm to 10.30pm on a terrace facing the coast. The cooking starts from Campanian tradition: 4 tasting menus from €150 to €190, or a choice of 3 courses for €150.
In the palace’s salons, under 18th-century frescoes, from 4pm to midnight, with live music every evening. The house cocktails turn on lemon and the coast’s herbs and cost €29 to €31; the alcohol-free ones are €20.
Every week, at no charge: fresh pasta on Tuesday at 11am, limoncello on Thursday, pizza on Friday at 5pm, painting on Wednesday, yoga and meditation at 7.30am and 3 guided walks. Places are limited and booked 24 hours ahead.
The hotel’s wedding factsheet lists boat excursions among what a stay includes, and 2 guests in May and June 2026 describe the trip along the coast, one of them as far as Positano with a few hours ashore. Private boats and transfers by sea go through the concierge.

The official site’s rate includes breakfast; on top come the week’s activities, the Amalfi shuttle, the gym, the steam room and, according to the hotel’s FAQs, valet parking. The MICHELIN Guide lists parking at €40 a day instead.
Il Pantaleone serves dinner only; lunch is at Caruso Grill, by the pool. Both add a €10 cover charge per person.
The sea cannot be seen from every room: the 2 cheapest double rooms and the Superior Suite look at the village, the church or the gardens. Every junior suite has a sea view.

The boat and the pasta
In June 2026 a couple count the included activities among their best memories: the pasta lesson and the boat to Positano, with a few hours to wander the town. On their last day the staff packed them a lunch for the train.
In August 2026 a guest travelling with a friend who had fractured his arm says the hotel had a doctor in their room straight after check-in, translated for him and collected the prescription from the pharmacy unasked.
In October 2026 a couple on honeymoon give 3 stars: the shuttle was meant to meet them at the port, but their ferry ran a few minutes late and it had gone, with no porter for the bags. At the bar their drinks orders were forgotten.
In October 2026 a guest praises the hotel, the rooms, the service and breakfast, but finds lunch and dinner merely fine. At dinner they paid a €10 cover charge each and for filtered water, which they think a hotel at this price should not bill.
In May 2025 a guest writing in German likes the view, the garden, the pool and the cooking, but gives 3 stars: her suite was closer to a room, the sea view was partly blocked and footsteps from the floor above woke her in the morning.
In October 2026 a guest describes a room tidied several times a day and feather pillows that were too flat. One night room service was slow with an amaro and he cancelled it; the next day the barman brought a bottle of Champagne to his table by the pool.
What people ask before booking Caruso, answered from the sources read on 7 and 8 October 2026.
What kind of hotel is Caruso, the former Belmond Hotel Caruso?
A seasonal 5-star hotel of 50 rooms and suites, 17 rooms and 33 suites according to the official page, in an 11th-century palace at 2 Piazza San Giovanni del Toro, Ravello. It belongs to Belmond, which now calls it «Caruso, A Belmond Hotel, Amalfi Coast»: the site’s old address, the one for Belmond Hotel Caruso, leads to the same page, and Google’s listing still uses it.
The MICHELIN Guide gives it one Key and describes it as renovated without being modernised; the hotel’s wedding factsheet speaks of a light refurbishment every year. In the gardens there is also Villa Margherita, a villa of 2 suites with a butler and a chef, which has its own page and its own booking.
What are the rooms and suites like, and how big are they?
10 types in 4 groups, according to the official booking page. The double rooms run from 35 to 50 m²: with a garden on the ground floor of the garden wing, with a terrace over the village or the gardens, or with a balcony over the sea. Can you get to the sea, and how far is the beach?
The hotel has no beach, and the sea lies 350 metres below. To get down there is a free scheduled shuttle to Amalfi, according to the FAQs; the ferries leave from there, and for Positano the concierge arranges a car, because the shuttle does not go that far. Booking.com and Expedia both mention a shuttle to Positano as well.

Children may swim when an adult is with them, the FAQs say; pets are kept out.

Small: the wellness centre has 2 single treatment rooms and one for couples, a fitness area and a hairdresser on request. Some treatments are given outdoors, in the gardens or in a cabana by the pool. The products are by Davines and Comfort Zone.
The spa brochure places it on floor -2 and mentions a steam room and a clay tennis court with a coach. The gym is open-air, with Technogym machines facing the view. The site does not publish the floor area and makes no mention of a sauna, which Google’s card does list; Booking.com lists the steam room.
Is the spa included, and can non-residents use it?
For staying guests the gym and the steam room are complimentary, the brochure says; treatments are charged from the price list, and the morning yoga, mobility and meditation sessions belong to the free activities.

What are the spa’s hours, and do you need to book?
Treatments run daily from 10am to 8pm, according to the wellness centre page. The gym is open daily from 8am to 8pm, with access outside those hours on request, according to the fitness centre page of the official site, read on 15 October 2026.
