The double-height lobby: a floor of red and white hexagons, a large vase of flowers in the middle and a red abstract canvas on the wall.
  1. A balcony over the lagoon

I would ask for the Premium Lagoon View Room with Balcony: 26–42 m² in the main building, with a balcony or terrace over the water, giving you somewhere outside to linger before dinner.

  2. Late July into August

From 25 July to 14 August 2027, individual nights range from €1,924 to €2,016 on Google, read 13 October 2026; the dearest night shown is 4 June at €3,120.

  3. A later departure

For a departure after 12pm, ask reception that morning about late check-out: it depends on availability, and a fee may apply according to how long you keep the room.

  4. Monday on the lagoon

Keep Monday evening for the aperitivo lagoon tour, from 6pm to 7pm, included in the stay; ask the concierge about the programme and reserve a place before setting out.

What the Cipriani is

Hotel Cipriani takes up the eastern end of the Giudecca, facing San Giorgio Maggiore: a main building with balconies over the lagoon, the fifteenth-century Palazzo Vendramin across the Casanova Gardens, and the sixteenth-century Granaries of the Republic, where the parties are held. It opened in 1958, has belonged since 1976 to the group now called Belmond, and since 2025 the architect Peter Marino has been redoing its lobby, suites and restaurant.

People come for what is rare in Venice: lawns, a vineyard, a red clay tennis court and a saltwater pool to spend the day beside, with Bar Gabbiano’s Bellini a few steps away. In the evening there is Oro, with one MICHELIN star, or the deck of Cip’s Club facing St Mark’s. The MICHELIN Guide gives the hotel 3 Keys.

On the official booking engine on 8 October 2026, nights in 2027 ran from €1,990 in August to €8,051 on 18 September, breakfast and VAT included; the city tax of €5 per person per night is added. A traveller who wants to step out of the door straight into a calle should book elsewhere.

  • Critics (exceptional)

  • Ours

We found the fifteenth-century Palazzo Vendramin across the Casanova Gardens, the Granaries of the Republic for parties, Oro’s MICHELIN star and, since 2025, Peter Marino’s hand on lobby, suites and restaurant.

Our reading, point by point

  1. Location

The tip of the Giudecca, St Mark’s opposite and 5 minutes away by launch; on foot you stay on the island.

Venice’s dolce vita hotel since 1958, its pool born of a muddle between feet and metres.

  3. Rooms

From 23 to 188 m², many redone by Peter Marino since 2025: worth asking which when you book.

  4. Food and social life

Starred Oro, Cip’s Club over the water, Il Porticciolo by the lagoon; at Cip’s, long trousers are expected in the evening.

  5. Wellness

A saltwater pool at 28–30°C, tennis, a gym and the new Dior Spa; the site lists no sauna or steam room.

  6. The stay as a whole

Official site: €1,990 to €8,051 a night for 2 between June and September 2027, with breakfast and VAT.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Hotel Cipriani’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests tell of the quiet of the Giudecca, the view across the lagoon to St Mark’s and the crossing on the hotel’s launch, 5 minutes each time.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests like the size of the rooms and the views over the water; those who slept in the suites redone since 2025 by Peter Marino write about them with enthusiasm.

  3. Staff and service

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Of the service guests tell of the large saltwater pool, the gardens, the launch always at hand and the kindness of the staff.

  4. Breakfast

Breakfast, a buffet with an à la carte menu, is served beside the lagoon: guests remember the pastries, the fresh fruit and the view of Venice.

  5. Price

Nights in 2027 start at €1,990, breakfast and VAT included; when guests write about the bill, they write about the price of rooms and cocktails.

The scores come from 347 Google reviews with text, left from 25 September 2013 to 2 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Venice: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 8 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Questions before you go

What travellers ask before booking Hotel Cipriani, answered from the sources read on 7 and 8 October 2026.

What kind of hotel is Hotel Cipriani, and has its name changed?

A seasonal 5-star on the Giudecca, in Venice, with 55 rooms, 20 suites and 4 Signature Suites according to its official page; Expedia gives it 96 rooms. It was founded by Giuseppe Cipriani, the creator of Harry’s Bar: planned in 1956, opened in 1958, and part since 1976 of the group now called Belmond, says the history the group publishes.

The name has changed: until recently it was «Belmond Hotel Cipriani», as Google’s listing still calls it, and the site now writes «Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel». It shares only its founder with the Cipriani restaurants and Harry’s Bar. The MICHELIN Guide awards it 3 Keys.

What are the rooms and suites like?

The official booking engine lists 19 types: 3 of double rooms, from 23 to 47 m², 5 of junior suites, from 33 to 65 m², 7 of suites, from 50 to 103 m², and 4 Signature Suites, the Palladio at 108 m², the Dogaressa at 122, the Laguna at 182 and the Serenissima at 188. They are split between the main building, on the lagoon and the pool, and Palazzo Vendramin, which faces St Mark’s.

All have marble bathrooms and Acqua di Parma toiletries; the site’s home page gives slightly different sizes, suites up to 80 m² and Signature Suites from 107. For the night of 10 June 2027 the site had 9 types on sale, for 10 August 13: the Laguna cost €11,505 in June and €6,610 in August.

Where is it, and is the area quiet?

At number 10 on the Giudecca, on the tip of the island facing San Giorgio Maggiore and, across the basin, St Mark’s Square, says the Location page. It has its own gardens around it and the lagoon on 3 sides.

Google Hotels’ card puts it 12 minutes’ walk from the Doge’s Palace: between the Giudecca and St Mark’s there is water, about 696 metres in a straight line, and you cross it by boat. On foot from the hotel you reach the church of Le Zitelle in 2 minutes and the Redentore in 10 minutes, 729 metres, measured on 8 October 2026 on OpenStreetMap’s paths.

How do you get to St Mark’s Square, and how long does it take?

On the hotel’s free launch: 5 minutes, says the official page. The pages read print no timetable; Expedia describes it as a 24-hour service, and a guest on Booking.com and one on Google in August 2026 say the same.

From the Molo of the Piazzetta, on foot: 2 minutes to St Mark’s Basilica, 8 to La Fenice, 10 to the Rialto Bridge and 16 to the Gallerie dell’Accademia, 1,182 metres away.

How do you arrive from the airport and the station?

From Marco Polo by water taxi, straight to the private jetty: the Location page says 30 minutes, the FAQs 35 to 45. Travellers who prefer public transport take the Alilaguna Blue Line to San Zaccaria and board the hotel’s boat there.

From Santa Lucia station the water taxi takes 20 to 25 minutes; by vaporetto you ride to San Zaccaria and continue the same way. Google Hotels marks the airport shuttle as a paid service, and none of the sources read publishes its price.

Is there parking, and what do you do with a car?

No: the Giudecca is an island with no roads or bridges for cars. You leave the car at Piazzale Roma, where Booking.com names a private car park, and the concierge arranges the boat to the hotel.

Google Hotels lists parking and valet parking, and the MICHELIN Guide prints both «valet parking» and «no parking available» on one page: the service concerns the car terminal. Signature Suites include the transfer from there.

Can you swim in the sea?

Not at the hotel: it is surrounded by the lagoon and has no beach. You swim in the pool, which is filtered and heated sea water, as the FAQs explain.

Venice’s beaches are on the Lido: the hotel takes guests there by bicycle, on a route from Santa Maria Elisabetta to the Alberoni and Pellestrina, according to the experiences page.

What is the pool like?

There is one, outdoors, between the gardens and the lagoon: salt water, cabanas in Rubelli fabrics, with Bar Gabbiano and Il Porticciolo beside it. The official page calls it the only pool in central Venice, the site’s home page the largest in the city.

It measures 33 metres by 13.5, according to the history Belmond publishes, read on 15 October 2026, which tells the 25-by-50 story as a legend. The page tells the story of the backers who had asked for 25 feet by 50 and found 25 metres by 50; in the history Belmond publishes the manager of the day states that the pool measures exactly 33 metres by 13.5. Expedia calls it Olympic-sized and adds a children’s pool the site knows nothing of.

Is the pool heated, and when is it open?

Yes, to 28–30°C, and it opens from 9am to 7pm, says the official page. It follows the hotel’s season, so in 2027 from 1 June. The minimum age is 4, with a parent.

The cabanas take up to 4 people, with Wi-Fi, sunbeds, towels, fruit and sparkling wine, and you can book a manicure there for €120 or a 30-minute massage for €200; the price of the cabana itself is not published.

Where do you eat, and at what hours?

In 4 restaurants and 3 bars, says the official page. Oro, one MICHELIN star: a 7-course tasting menu or à la carte in the evening, the Oro Luce menu of 2 to 4 courses at lunch. Cip’s Club, Venetian cooking over the water. Il Porticciolo, by the pool, from May: late breakfast from 10.30am and lunch until 4pm. The San Giorgio: aperitivo from 6.30pm, dinner from 7.30pm to 10pm.

Then Bar Gabbiano, from 11am to 1am, where the Bellini is served only in white-peach season, and Bacaro Dior, Tuesday to Sunday from 6pm to 10pm. At Il Porticciolo pizzas cost €30 to €35 and linguine with clams €44, as the menu prints; Oro’s menu carries no prices. The San Giorgio and Bacaro Dior also welcome people not staying at the hotel.

Is breakfast included, and is there half board or full board?

Breakfast is: on the official site rooms are sold on a «Room with Breakfast» rate, and the FAQs add that it is a buffet with à la carte dishes and comes to the room at no extra charge. Room service runs 24 hours a day.

The site offers neither half board nor full board. For dinner in the price there is the package with the tasting menu for 2 at Oro; the «The Suite Life» offer adds a €200 credit for restaurants and bars, not valid at Oro.

What is the spa like?

It is the Dior Spa Hotel Cipriani, opened in 2026 in the Casanova Gardens to a design by Peter Marino. The treatment menu describes treatment cabins, a salon for hair, nails and make-up, and a device that measures the skin’s hydration, elasticity and collagen before a facial.

Neither the page nor the menu gives its floor area, and neither mentions a sauna, a steam room or pools: Booking.com, Expedia and Google Hotels list them, perhaps from the previous spa, which the Italian FAQs still call the Casanova Spa. Separately there are the gym, with Technogym machines, and the red clay tennis court.

Is spa access included, and can outside guests come?

The Dior Spa works by appointment: each treatment has its price and is booked by telephone or email, says the menu. For hotel guests the pool and the gym are part of the stay, as are the week’s activities, from the tennis clinic to a session with the personal trainer, listed in the programme.

A day pass for non-residents is not published, for the spa or for the pool. Outsiders can come for dinner or an aperitivo, which the site states expressly for the San Giorgio and Bacaro Dior.

What are the spa’s hours, and do you need to book?

The menu says the Dior Spa is open daily, without giving hours, and asks guests to arrive 15 minutes early, already in a bathrobe. Cancelling is free up to 24 hours ahead; after that the full treatment is charged.

The pool does have set hours, 9am to 7pm. The activities included in the stay have to be reserved with the concierge, the weekly programme notes.

Which treatments are there, and what do they cost?

The Dior menu opens with 3 signature rituals: Théâtre Corporel, a 4-hand massage of 90 minutes, €650; Mascarade, for the face, 90 minutes, €580; Grand Bal, for face, hair and hands, from €800. Then the Kobi-Dior facial, €290 for 60 minutes and €400 for 90, and the New Look, D-Tissue and Constellation massages, from €280.

There is a pre-natal treatment, 60 minutes for €280; a session on a boat on the lagoon, 120 minutes for €1,200; a personal trainer and private yoga or pilates classes at €250 an hour. At the hairdresser a blow-dry starts at €120.
