For an unhurried anniversary, choose breakfast on the piano nobile and a garden by the water; Google showed nights from €1,265, the lowest price any seller listed for one night taken alone for 2 adults. For a trip built around swimming and a large spa, I would choose elsewhere.

Like a regular

A room on the piano nobile with gilded stucco, mirrors, a great crystal chandelier and the windows open onto the Grand Canal.
  1. The room to request

For water outside the window, I would ask for a Palazzo Stanza Canal Grande: 57–89 m² overlooking the canal and Garden Terrace, with a living area and writing desk; some retain original architectural details.

  2. The nights that cost less

Read on 13 October 2026: 1–3 December at €1,265 for one night taken alone, against €9,580 on 17 May 2027. Booked together, 7 nights from 16 November cost €3,009 nightly through Google’s lowest-priced seller.

  3. Before cancelling a treatment

At the spa, prices carry local tax and service charges; cancelling a treatment with less than 12 hours’ notice costs 100% of the booked service, so leave time to change plans.

  4. Tea between the frescoes

Between 3pm and 5pm, return for afternoon tea: finger sandwiches, pastries and cakes, served beneath frescoes in winter or in the garden in warmer weather, with a choice of teas.

What Aman Venice is

Aman Venice fills Palazzo Papadopoli, one of the 8 monumental palazzi on the Grand Canal as the official site puts it, in the San Polo sestiere between the Rialto Bridge and San Tomà. There are 24 rooms and suites, according to the MICHELIN Guide and Tripadvisor; the contemporary furniture is Jean-Michel Gathy’s, the stucco, silks and frescoes the palazzo’s own, and the owners still live in the private apartments on the top floor.

The palazzo is the reason to come. Breakfast is taken beneath the stucco of the piano nobile, drinks under Cesare Rotta’s painted Olympus in the Red Room, and in summer dinner in the garden, a few yards from the gondolas. Of the 117 Google reviews that discuss the location, 95% are positive, and several guests describe the calm of the garden 5 minutes from the Rialto crowds.

The bill is that of a palazzo on the Grand Canal: from €1,265 a night for 2, and in the restaurant Arva’s menus print no prices. The smallest rooms, the Palazzo Bedroom and the Palazzo Chamber Affresco, look onto the garden alone; the spa has 3 treatment rooms and a gym, and there is no pool.

In the Lumina Guide

Lumina Guide 2027

Aman Venice is Palazzo Papadopoli, a 16th-century palazzo on the Grand Canal where the owners still live: 24 rooms among stucco and Tiepolo frescoes, with a garden on the water 5 minutes from the Rialto.

How we choose the hotels

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  1. Location

On the Grand Canal in San Polo: the Rialto 5 minutes on foot, St Mark’s 14, the San Silvestro waterbus stop 3.

  2. Character

Stucco, damask silks, frescoes by Tiepolo and Guarana and a garden on the water, a great rarity in Venice.

  3. Rooms

From 47 to 290 m², with ceilings up to 5 metres in the Signature Rooms; the smallest look onto the garden only.

  4. Food and social life

Arva all day, 8 seats at the Palazzo Kitchen Table and much-praised cocktails; Arva’s menus print no prices.

  5. Wellness

3 treatment rooms using Salsomaggiore’s thermal products and a gym; no pool and no sauna published.

  6. The stay as a whole

Google Hotels: €1,275 to €9,965 a night for 2, taxes included, between October 2026 and January 2027.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Aman Venice’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write about the palazzo on the Grand Canal, the garden on the water and the calm a few minutes from the Rialto.

  2. Room

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests describe high ceilings, comfortable beds and spotless housekeeping; in the suites they remember the frescoes, and in the Stanza Canal Grande rooms the windows on the canal.

  3. Staff and service

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write about an attentive, discreet welcome, the concierge who books restaurants around the city and the bartenders, who know which cocktail to suggest.

  4. Breakfast

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Breakfast is à la carte, beneath the stucco of the piano nobile or in the garden: guests remember the room, the eggs with crisp bacon, the pancakes and the crêpes.

  5. Price

5 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. For guests who leave satisfied, the palazzo and the service are worth the bill.

The scores come from 469 Google reviews with text, left from 26 April 2014 to 5 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Venice: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 8 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Arva, on the piano nobile

Arva serves from 12 to 10pm, with the dinner menu from 7pm, and on Sundays brunch from 11am to 4pm. The cooking is Italian and seasonal: Venetian fried fish, tagliatella with beef ragù and Vezzena cheese, turbot, guinea fowl cacciatora, vegetables from Sant’Erasmo. Non-residents are welcome too.

The Bar, in the Red Room

From noon to midnight, under Cesare Rotta’s fresco of Olympus and stucco celebrating the arts and sciences; the room began as a picture gallery. The cocktail list takes its cue from the palazzo’s 6 principal halls, and a guest in May 2025 paid €30 a cocktail and thought them worth it.

The Palazzo Kitchen Table

8 seats round a teppanyaki-style counter, Tuesday to Saturday, with a single sitting at 7.30pm: 10 courses that cook the Veneto with Japanese technique, from Sant’Erasmo’s violet artichokes to fish from the lagoon. The events page describes a table for 10 instead.

The garden on the Grand Canal

One of the very few gardens in Venice with a view of the Grand Canal, the hotel says: lawn, trees, wisteria and jasmine. From May to October it holds Arva’s tables and a timber bar for aperitivi; a second, entrance garden leads guests from the calle to the door.

Good to know before you book

  • The menus at Arva, the restaurant, print no prices; in 2025 guests write of pasta dishes at around €60. Source: 469 Google reviews read, 26 April 2014 to 5 October 2026

  • Not every room looks onto the Grand Canal: the Palazzo Bedroom and the Chamber Affresco look onto the garden only, the Chamber Luminoso onto the garden or in part the canal. For water outside the window, book a Stanza Canal Grande or the Grand Canal Suite.

  • From the hotel’s door to St Mark’s Basilica it is 1.2 km and 14 minutes on foot, without a ferry; the site says «a short walk away» and the Google Hotels card says 2 minutes. The Rialto Bridge is 5 minutes away and the San Silvestro stop 3.

  • From Marco Polo airport the hotel arranges a car to the mainland dock and then a water taxi, 50 minutes in all; the official page gives no price for it. The palazzo has its own landing stage on the Grand Canal.

  • There is no pool, sauna or steam room. Google’s description of a hot tub finds no support on the official pages; treatments and the gym are from age 16.

  • Venice’s tourist tax, according to the MICHELIN Guide, is €5 per person per night from February to November and €3.50 in January and December; the city’s rates in force since 1 April 2025 put December at €5 as well. The access fee on peak days does not apply to overnight guests, who must still download their exemption code before arriving.

Questions before you go

The questions people ask before booking Aman Venice, answered from the sources read on 7 October 2026.

What kind of hotel is Aman Venice?

A 5-star hotel in Palazzo Papadopoli, one of the 8 monumental palazzi on the Grand Canal according to the official site, with Three Keys from the MICHELIN Guide, which calls it Aman’s first city hotel. It has 24 rooms and suites, say the MICHELIN Guide and Tripadvisor; the site does not publish a number.

The contemporary interiors are Jean-Michel Gathy’s; the palazzo’s owners, an Aman feature relates, live in the private apartments at the top of the building. The grand staircase dates from 1874, and the Red Room was once the family’s picture gallery.

Which rooms are there, and how big are they?

11 types, from the rooms to the 3-bedroom apartments: the Palazzo Bedroom at 47 to 60 m², the Chamber Affresco at 50, the Chamber Luminoso at 53 to 61, the Palazzo Stanza Canal Grande at 57 to 89; among the Signature Rooms the Maddalena at 62 m², the Papadopoli at 73 and the Sansovino at 75; the suites, Grand Canal at 97 m² and Alcova Tiepolo at 103; the apartments, Grand Canal at 226 m² and Coccina’s at 290.

All have a king bed, breakfast included, in-room drinks including alcohol, a guided tour of the palazzo and access to the rooftop altana. In the Signature Rooms the ceilings reach 5 metres. On 7 October 2026 the MICHELIN Guide, for the night of 4 November and one adult, showed the Palazzo Bedroom at $2,352.80 and the Alcova Tiepolo Suite at $7,120.30, taxes and fees included.

Where is it, and is the area quiet?

At Calle Tiepolo 1364, in the San Polo sestiere, on the bank of the Grand Canal opposite St Mark’s: the Rialto Bridge is 472 metres away, Campo San Polo 318. The Google Hotels card puts it 2 minutes from Piazza San Marco, but on foot the Basilica is 1.2 km away.

Inside the palazzo it is quiet: 2 gardens, 24 rooms, and several guests write of finding silence a stone’s throw from the crowds.

How long is the walk to St Mark’s, the Rialto and the Frari?

On foot, with no ferry: the Rialto Bridge 5 minutes, the Frari 8, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco 10, Piazza San Marco 13 (1.1 km), St Mark’s Basilica 14, La Fenice 14, the Gallerie dell’Accademia 21. For St Mark’s you cross the Grand Canal at the Rialto; by waterbus you leave from San Silvestro, 3 minutes from the door.

The times were calculated on 7 October 2026 on OpenStreetMap’s streets; with acqua alta or the Rialto crowds they take longer.

How do you get there from the airport and the station?

From Marco Polo airport the hotel arranges, on request, a meet-and-greet in arrivals, a car to the mainland dock and a water taxi to the palazzo, 50 minutes in all, according to the official page, which publishes no price; one guest paid €300 in August 2025. The water taxi moors at the private landing stage.

From Santa Lucia station it is 1.3 km on foot, 16 minutes; the MICHELIN Guide gives 3 miles, close to 5 km, a distance the map does not bear out.

Can you arrive by car or park?

No: in Venice cars stop at Piazzale Roma, 1.6 km and 18 minutes’ walk from the hotel, and you carry on by water taxi or on foot. The Google Hotels card lists «Parking» among the amenities, but no official page describes a car park or a charge.

Is there a beach or access to the sea?

No: the palazzo stands on the Grand Canal, with a private landing stage. From there leave the boat trips the hotel offers, such as an aperitivo in the lagoon towards the Giudecca or a tour of the islands to Murano, Sant’Erasmo and San Francesco del Deserto, described on the private tours page.

Is there a swimming pool?

No. The wellness pages list 3 treatment rooms and a gym, and a guest in April 2026 writes that there is no pool, sauna or whirlpool. Google Hotels’ description of a hot tub is not borne out by the site.

Where can you eat, and until when?

At Arva, on the piano nobile, from 12 to 10pm, with dinner from 7pm and Sunday brunch from 11am to 4pm; at The Bar from noon to midnight, with afternoon tea from 3pm to 5pm; at the Palazzo Kitchen Table Tuesday to Saturday, at 7.30pm. From May to October you can also eat in the garden, and everything is open to non-residents, by reservation.

Arva’s menus print no prices. Guests mention a ragù pasta at €36 in 2023, pasta dishes at around €60 in 2025 and a €30 cover charge at breakfast for non-residents in February 2025.

Is breakfast included?

Yes, in the room rates: each room page, such as the Palazzo Bedroom’s, lists daily breakfast, and the MICHELIN Guide showed it included in the rates it displayed on 7 October 2026. It is served at Arva or, in fine weather, in the garden, and many guests praise it.

What is the spa like?

Small and intimate: 3 treatment rooms, each with a dressing area and bathroom, on a third-floor mezzanine, as the spa menu says. Treatments use the salts, waters and clays of Salsomaggiore Terme and Aman’s own products, and cryotherapy is offered. The gym, on the fourth floor, looks over the rooftops.

The MICHELIN Guide places the spa in an adjoining building; the official pages put it inside the palazzo.

Is the spa included, is there a charge, and can outside guests use it?

Treatments are charged, and the menu prints no prices, only that tax and service are added. The spa and its treatments are open to non-residents too, but the hotel publishes no day pass, as there is no pool or sauna to use. The gym is used privately and is booked through reception.

What are the spa’s opening hours?

From 1 October 2026, daily from 2pm to 8pm, with the last treatment an hour before closing; until 30 September it opened Monday to Thursday from 2pm to 8pm and Friday to Sunday from 10am to 7pm, according to the spa page. Book on extension 750; cancellation is free up to 12 hours before.

Which treatments does it offer?

On the spa menu: Aman’s Grounding, Purifying and Nourishing rituals of 60 or 90 minutes, and journeys of 180; the Aman Advanced Facial; thermal treatments with Salsomaggiore’s products, such as the 90-minute Lissaggio; massages, including pregnancy and couples’ massages; a massage with a live harpist. There is yoga in the frescoed salons and a personal trainer. No prices are published.

Can you bring children?

Yes. The Grand Canal Suite can become 2 bedrooms for families, and the apartments have 3. Under the terms of the Extend Your Stay offer, children under 12 sharing with their parents stay free, and from 12 it is €250 plus VAT a night. Google and the MICHELIN Guide list babysitting and cots.

The spa and gym are from age 16. At Christmas there is a mandorlato cooking class from age 8 and a Befana stocking; a family in March 2026 describe their 8-year-old enchanted by the ceilings.

Can you bring a dog?

According to Google Hotels and Tripadvisor pets are allowed, and the MICHELIN Guide adds that a charge applies, without saying how much. The official site does not mention pets.

What is there besides the rooms?

2 gardens, the library with the family’s books, the halls of the first and second piano nobile, the rooftop altana, the restaurant, the bar, the spa and the gym. The hotel arranges private visits, such as the Doge’s Palace after closing, the Rialto market with the chef and the city’s artisans’ workshops, described on the experiences page.

Which offers are there?

The official offers read on 7 October 2026: Extend Your Stay, with a fourth night free, breakfast and the minibar, valid until 23 December 2027, non-refundable and with blackout dates; Ultimate Discovery, 2 nights with tickets to the Scuola Grande di San Rocco and two 30-minute treatments; Signature Suite Stay, 2 nights in the suites; Journey Across Italy, 5 nights combined with Aman Rosa Alpina, until 18 October 2026. None publishes a price.

Can you get married at Aman Venice?

Yes: the events page offers a ceremony in the canal-side garden or in the ballroom overlooking the Grand Canal, followed by a candlelit banquet with live opera or a string quartet. The ballroom holds 100 standing and 80 seated, the salon on the second piano nobile 110 seated and 120 standing, the garden 120 at dinner and 150 standing, but only when the palazzo is taken for exclusive use.

For smaller dinners there are the Yellow Room, up to 50, the Blue Room, up to 40, the Tiepolo Room, up to 50, and the altana, up to 10. The hotel publishes no prices.

Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?

Yes. The 2026 festive programme sets out, on 31 December from 7pm, an aperitivo over the garden and a gala dinner at Arva with live music; at midnight a boat from the landing stage to the fireworks above the Salute, not included in the package and best booked at least 7 days ahead, and back at the palazzo zampone with lentils.

No price is published. The programme also includes Christmas Eve dinner, the New Year’s concert at La Fenice and brunch on 1 January.

When is it open?

All year, as far as the official pages say: they announce no closure. On Google Hotels, read on 7 October 2026, 82 of the 116 nights from 8 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 had a price; from 7 January onwards none did, which does not mean the hotel is closed.

Treatments and drinks carry tax and service on top, the spa menu says; the airport water taxi is charged. An extra guest costs €250 plus VAT a night, under the Extend Your Stay terms.
