Choose the savouries before the Champagne

The linked menu carries 3 complete afternoon teas, each with its own food and drinks choices.

The Autumn Afternoon Tea begins with pear and chestnut ice cream, followed by savouries that move from Paris ham and Gruyère on rye bread to ricotta with pear and walnut bread. There is smoked salmon with beetroot, crab and pomelo on white bread, and chicken with carrots. This is the set for someone who wants a recognisable sandwich tea with seasonal touches. The official venue page advertises the autumn occasion from 17 October to 30 November 2026, with reservations through its own table-booking link.

Warm scones come with seasonal jams and a choice of Devonshire clotted cream, mascarpone or butter. The pastries take the autumn idea in several directions: Thai-tea caramel tart, apple tatin tartlet, pecan cookies and an autumn-leaf croissant appear beside the tropical-bloom cake and chocolate flan. The native menu read on 17 October gives THB 1,980 per person with a selection of teas or coffees, or THB 2,680 with a glass of Champagne. Its footer adds 10% service charge and applicable government tax.

The Oriental Afternoon Tea Set takes a Thai direction at the same THB 1,980 base price. Savouries include chicken wing stuffed with glass noodles, prawn and chicken in an egg net, vegetarian curry puff, peppery crab and butterfly-pea dumpling, and minced duck in a crisp cup. A young-coconut sorbet opens the sequence. Alongside plain and mango scones are mango sticky rice, toddy-palm cake, steamed pandan layer cake and toasted brioche with coconut-and-pandan jam. Choose this set when the Thai bites are part of the attraction.

The vegan tea has its own menu, at THB 1,800 with selected tea or coffee, or THB 2,550 with a glass of Champagne. Its savouries include beluga lentils with sun-dried tomato, tofu with black truffle, avocado hummus in a crisp tart and green-pea tart with tonburi. Scones are served with homemade tofu cream and seasonal jams. Sweets include lychee, coconut and rose cake, a chocolate brownie with orange marmalade, almond-and-pear pavlova and a matcha chocolate tablet. Tell the team about allergies as well as the menu choice.

Tea is a choice within the occasion. The menu describes the hotel’s own TWG blend of green tea, Yin Zhen and vanilla, as well as Earl Grey, oolong and black teas. Its premium section gives a THB 150 per-person addition with an afternoon-tea set for choices such as Yin Zhen and Milk Oolong. Separate cold-brewed teas also carry a THB 150 set supplement. A guest who enjoys choosing the cup can therefore make that decision after settling the food, with the supplement visible before ordering.

The room is part of the reason to reserve. The Authors’ Lounge sits on the ground floor of the original Oriental Hotel, with wicker furniture, hand-painted fabrics and photographs of writers who have stayed since the late 19th century. Its 4 private adjoining lounges offer an option for a small gathering. The menu names the Joseph Conrad, Somerset Maugham, Noël Coward and James Michener lounges, and describes photographs, memorabilia and quotations associated with the writers. Ask about a private space when arranging an occasion.

Dress for the lounge even if the rest of the day is casual. Its smart dress code applies to all guests, children included: elegant attire and proper footwear, with long trousers and closed shoes for men. Sleeveless shirts for men are excluded throughout the day. Tea service finishes an hour before the lounge closes, so choose the reservation from the noon–6pm tea window. The venue’s booking link is separate from The Bamboo Bar, which takes walk-ins later in the evening.

Settle the food, the time and the dress

  • Look at the savoury selection

The Autumn set has sandwiches; the Oriental set has Thai bites and sweets; the vegan tea is a complete separate menu.

  • Use The Authors’ Lounge booking link

The official page links its SevenRooms reservation system. For a small private occasion, enquire about the adjoining lounges.

  • Mention allergies with the menu

The native sheet asks guests to advise the team of dietary requirements. A vegan menu choice does not replace an allergy conversation.

  • Change into smart clothes

The lounge’s dress rule applies throughout the day and includes children. Men need long trousers and closed shoes.

  • Decide on any supplement

Selected tea or coffee is included with each set; premium and cold-brewed teas have separately stated additions.
