Portrait Milano is a hotel near La Scala, 9 minutes’ walk from the theatre: time to hum the aria you can’t shake and be back under the loggias before it fades. Its Piazza is open to the city, and its La Scala Experience bundles tickets, dinner and a private car.

The evening starts before the curtain goes up, in the public Piazza of a former seminary that Milan cuts through like a street.
Portrait Milano looks onto a Piazza enclosed by the loggias of the former Archbishop’s Seminary, and that Piazza is public: before you even find reception, you are standing in a living corner of the Fashion District.
The measured walk from Via Sant’Andrea to La Scala takes 9 minutes. The hotel’s La Scala Experience follows another script: a private car, tickets and a light dinner, for the titles on its calendar, from La traviata to November’s ballet, with a non-refundable prepayment taken when you book.
After the performance the loggias lead you back into the Piazza. For the night there is the Studio Deluxe Garden, which the hotel’s site lists with an inner-garden view and describes as quiet; the exact room is something to ask for when you book.
For this evening we gathered Portrait’s 6 official pages and 5 of La Scala’s own, 7 videos, one looking into the full auditorium from a box, and the walks from 7 hotels to the theatre’s main door. Then we searched the 419 Google reviews with text among the 872 we collected: La Scala never comes up. When guests say where they are, they talk fashion: 24 place the hotel in the Quadrilatero, among the boutiques or a step from Via Montenapoleone, and only 4 measure it from the Duomo. The walk to the opera runs through those very streets.
From Portrait to La Scala
Act one plays out in the Piazza. From Via Sant’Andrea you walk to La Scala with the time on your ticket in mind; with the hotel’s package, a private car takes you instead.
5pm
No ticket yet
No ticket? Try your luck. 3 hours before curtain-up a waiting list opens under the porticoes of Via Filodrammatici for numbered balcony seats with no view of the stage, usually €10: 140 for an opera, 80 for other performances, sold 2 hours before the start, one per person, to holders of a La Scala account. Whatever is left goes online.
6.15pm
A light dinner
With the La Scala Experience, a light dinner at 10_11 comes first: 3 dishes with a glass of wine or a cocktail, then the car to the theatre. Without it, Il Foyer alla Scala sits right against the theatre, with its door on Largo Ghiringhelli.
At the interval 3 foyer bars serve drinks and sandwiches, which you can order online to skip the queue. For selected operas and ballets there is also a menu at standing tables in the Boxes’ Foyer, booked online at least 24 hours ahead. Nothing to eat or drink goes past the foyers.
You’ll be back after 11pm, and the Piazza will still be talking.
A Studio Deluxe Garden at Portrait MilanoA Suite at Portrait Milano, with its patio
On the garden side, a Studio Deluxe Garden is 43 m² and looks onto the garden; the hotel describes it as quiet. For some outdoor space of your own, a Suite has 60 m² and a private patio of 15 to 30 m², facing the city. The official site gives each category’s outlook; the exact room is yours to ask for when you book.

6 hotels are closer
Walking times, measured along the streets.
If reaching your seat first is the point, 6 central hotels beat Portrait: they are 3 to 8 minutes from La Scala on foot, Portrait 9. Those extra minutes buy the hotel’s Piazza for the evening, the garden of 10_11 and the spa the morning after.
Minutes on foot to La Scala’s main entrance on Piazza della Scala, measured on 26 September 2026 with OSRM’s pedestrian profile on OpenStreetMap streets, from the coordinates each hotel publishes (for Portrait, its entrance at Via Sant’Andrea 10). Each address comes from the page its hotel’s name links to.
The reviews leave the theatre out
La Scala doesn’t come up once in the 872 Google reviews of Portrait read on 21 September 2026. Guests write about the Piazza; the theatre stays out of their stories.
Questions about La Scala and Portrait
Distance, what to wear, arriving late and tickets on the day: what people ask before a night at La Scala from Portrait.
How far is Portrait Milano from La Scala?
About 700 metres, 9 minutes on foot, from the hotel’s door on Via Sant’Andrea to the theatre’s main entrance. A car or taxi is slower than your feet, because much of the Quadrilatero is closed to traffic.
Can I walk back after the performance?
Yes, through the streets of the Quadrilatero, central all the way. With the package, the private car home is included too.
What does the La Scala Experience include, and what does it cost?
Can the concierge get tickets without the La Scala Experience?
By guests’ accounts, yes, though the hotel publishes no ticket service outside the package. 3 guests on Tripadvisor say the concierge found them seats, twice for sold-out performances, in April 2023, October 2023 and July 2025, and Expedia lists help with tours and tickets among the hotel’s services. If the night is sold out, La Scala’s own last-minute sale opens 2 hours before curtain-up.
You wait in the foyer until the first interval, following the performance on the screens there. Only box holders go in once it has started.
Can I get a ticket on the day?
Yes, with patience: La Scala sells last-minute balcony seats 2 hours before the start, and the list for them opens 3 hours before, under the porticoes of Via Filodrammatici. For an 8pm performance, that means being there at 5pm.
