Six Senses Laamu, the Maldives surf resort alone in its atoll

At Six Senses Laamu, a Maldives surf resort, Tropicsurf runs 8 breaks around the only resort in Laamu Atoll, from Shoulders, a paddle from the beach, to Machines across the atoll. It is 65 minutes by seaplane south of Malé, and the resort gives the season as April to November.

Who Six Senses Laamu suits as a surf resort

Why choose it

Surfers of every level who want a reef, a spa and a partner who does not surf to be happy too; beginners, who learn in the lagoon and at Shoulders.

The waves

When to look elsewhere

You want to walk to a world-class wave, or to land after dark: the best breaks need a boat, and the seaplane flies in daylight only.

Other surf resorts

Why the whole of Six Senses Laamu, beyond the waves

Around the surf lies an atoll the resort studies, protects and feeds you from.

The resort protects 385,000 m² of seagrass, where green turtles graze; in 2025 its biologists identified 1,206 turtles, logged 579 manta ray sightings and released 1,048,318 coral larvae onto the reef (sustainability). Manta rays gather all year at Hithadhoo Corner, 10 minutes by boat.

At Leaf, adults-only and Mediterranean, the ingredients come from a garden of more than 40 herbs and shoots and a mushroom hut; Zen is Japanese, Kaji a teppanyaki, and the Ice & Chocolate Studio’s 48 flavours are free (dining).

A partner who does not surf has the spa’s 9 nests and its programmes for sleep, yoga and fitness (spa); children have The Den, free from 3 to 12 (family), and the house reef is entered on foot (house reef).

Intermediate surfers take the 2.5-hour Ocean Transition to the breaks nearby, or Ticket to Ride to the outer reefs, half a day or a full one, depending on the swell (surfing).
