  1. The villa to ask for

I would ask for a Sunset Laamu Water Villa with Pool: 126 m² at the end of Jetty A, facing the sunset, with an upper deck, a pool deck and a glass sunken bathtub. For small children the resort recommends beach villas.

  2. Three-night stays, dated

For 3-night stays for 2 adults, the lowest seller on Google asked $1,549 a night from 7 December 2026 (read 5 October), $2,096 from 16 November (read 4 October) and $2,763 from 11 January 2027 (read 5 October).

  3. On top of the rate

The seaplane is extra: $1,199 per adult and $700 per child from 2 to 11, return, taxes included. Late check-out until 6pm costs 50% of one night, and later a full night.

  4. The weekly lobster barbecue

Once a week, just after sunset, the chefs hold a barbecue on the beach with lobster, reef fish and beef: a 5-course dinner from 7.30pm.

What Laamu is

Six Senses Laamu opened on 2 April 2011 on Olhuveli Island (opening release) and is still the only resort in Laamu Atoll (official site). There are 94 villas according to the official site and 97 according to the MICHELIN Guide, which gave it a Key (villas, MICHELIN Guide); they stand on the jetties or on the beach, and you get around barefoot, by bicycle.

The sea is the reason to come. The resort protects 385,000 m² of seagrass, where turtles graze: in 2025 its biologists identified 1,206 of them and released 1,048,318 coral larvae onto the reef (sustainability). At Hithadhoo Corner, 10 minutes by boat, manta rays are seen all year; you walk into the house reef from the beach (house reef).

Tropicsurf, the only surf school in the atoll, takes surfers to 8 breaks, from Shoulders, a paddle from the beach, to Machines and Inside Ying Yangs, for experts (surfing). At table there are Leaf, Mediterranean and adults-only, Japanese Zen, Kaji with its teppanyaki, the Altitude cellar of more than 300 labels and 48 flavours of free ice cream (dining).

The seaplane takes 65 minutes, costs $1,199 per adult return and flies in daylight only: you must land in Malé by 3pm (getting there). Water villas measure 108 m², 126 with a pool; in April 2026 the Telegraph wrote of a major refurbishment due by September (Telegraph). On Google it scores 4.8 out of 5 from 984 reviews (Google).

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Six Senses Laamu’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write of an atoll to themselves and of the sea at the villa door: the house reef and the seagrass with turtles, rays and small sharks, dolphins passing and manta rays on the dives.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Villas praised for the nature around them and the outdoor space: guests write of the privacy, the glass in the bathroom that looks onto the sea and the turtles seen from the water villa.

  3. Staff and service

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. The GEM, the host who looks after each guest, is thanked by name, as are the marine biologists who lead the snorkelling and the dive and surf teams.

  4. Breakfast

Every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Breakfast is at Longitude, part buffet and part à la carte, and is included in the rate.

  5. Price

The rate covers breakfast, mask and fins and group yoga; drinks are charged separately, on half board and full board too.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 25 March 2018 to 4 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 5 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in the Maldives:
