Ba’theli at sunset: the boat’s prow and the tables laid above the lagoon
  1. The villa to request

I would ask for the Water Pool Villa: 245 m² on stilts over the Indian Ocean, with a private 42 m² infinity pool and steps down into the lagoon for easy access to the nearby coral reef.

  2. The week to consider

Consider 1 to 21 May 2027: single nights for 2 adults were $1,558 to $1,623 on Google, read 13 October 2026. The dearest night shown, 31 December 2026, was $3,361.

  3. The transfer fare

Booking.com lists the return transfer at $670 per adult until 10 January 2027, then $704 from 11 January to 30 April, then $880 from 1 May 2027, the same for the seaplane and for the domestic flight with speedboat.

  4. Dinner on the boat

On the Gourmet Plan, the resort’s all-inclusive, dinner at Ba’theli comes once every 5 days. The restaurant stands on a traditional boat moored in the lagoon, with a glass floor.

What Milaidhoo Maldives is

Milaidhoo opened in 2016 (official site) on an island of 300 by 180 metres, 5.4 hectares, in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve (your stay). It belongs to the same family as Baros and The Nautilus and is a member of Small Luxury Hotels (official site). There are 47 villas and 3 residences, every one with a pool, 4 restaurants and 2 bars (your stay).

The Beach Pool Villas, on the sand, have 290 m² and a 36 m² pool; the Water Pool Villas, over the water, 245 m² and a 42 m² pool, with steps down towards the reef (Beach Pool Villa, Water Pool Villa). The 3 residences reach 564 m² with a dedicated butler, and every villa has an island host at any hour (Ocean Residence, FAQ).

The best-known restaurant is Ba’theli, aboard a traditional boat moored in the lagoon, with a glass floor and dinner from 7 to 10.30pm (Ba’theli). The house reef holds the Milaidhoo Caves and a PADI 5-star centre; Hanifaru Bay, where manta rays gather from May to November, is 15 minutes by boat (FAQ).

It has 4.8 out of 5 on Google from 261 reviews and 4.8 on Tripadvisor from 2,154, with Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best 2026 (Google Hotels, Tripadvisor). Condé Nast Traveller calls it small enough to get round without a buggy (Condé Nast Traveller).

Lumina Guide 2027

Milaidhoo is an island of 5.4 hectares in Baa Atoll: 50 pool villas, a reef a few fin-strokes away and Hanifaru’s manta rays 15 minutes off by boat.

How we choose the hotels

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  3. Rooms

50 villas and residences, each with a pool, from 245 to 564 m².

  4. Food and social life

Ba’theli, the Ocean Restaurant, the grill, Azure; much-praised breakfasts.

4 overwater rooms and the yoga pavilion; morning yoga included.

  6. The stay as a whole

What makes it rare

A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.

What the badges are

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Milaidhoo’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write about a small, intimate island you can walk round in 20 minutes, and the house reef off the beach, where they tell of sharks, rays and turtles.

  2. Room

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Villas praised for the space, the pool and the care over details; guests who tried both a water villa and a beach villa often preferred the beach.

  3. Staff and service

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write above all about the island host, the butler on call for each villa at any hour, and the restaurant teams, from the chefs to those who wait at table.

  4. Breakfast

Every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Breakfast is at the Ocean Restaurant: a buffet together with à la carte dishes served at the table.

  5. Price

The rate covers the pool villa and the island host who looks after it; the seaplane transfer is charged separately, and GST and service are added to the price lists for extras.

The scores come from 164 Google reviews with text, left from 21 May 2016 to 3 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 5 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in the Maldives:

Price: for two on the night of 18 May 2027, from $1,558 (seen on Google Hotels on 13 October 2026).

What a night costs, season by season

A night for 2 adults costs $1,620 to $1,969 until 22 December 2026, and $2,371 to $2,971 from 11 January to 30 April 2027. I would aim for 1 to 21 May 2027, when each night was $1,558 to $1,623.

Milaidhoo, Anantara Kihavah or Vakkaru

Choose Milaidhoo for a small island and a living house reef, or Anantara Kihavah for a Baa Atoll resort of pool villas with its own house reef, 35 minutes by seaplane. Vakkaru has more restaurants and family clubs; Milaidhoo suits couples who would trade that choice for fewer guests.

Anantara Kihavah$1,609
Vakkaru Maldives$1,341
