A Duplex Overwater Pool Villa at dusk, lit up, its deck pool and steps into the lagoon
  1. The villa to ask for

For families I would ask for the Two Bedroom Duplex Beach Pool Villa: 285 m² over 2 levels, each bedroom with its own bathroom, a private pool and direct access to the beach.

  2. The weeks that cost less

In the calendar read on 12 October 2026 the lowest run of nights taken alone is 13 to 19 November 2026, at $1,933 each. The dearest, one night taken alone, is 24 December 2026, at $5,498.

  3. On top of the rate

The shared seaplane roundtrip costs $665 per adult and $415 for children up to 11, with 17% GST included; your international flight must land by 3pm.

  4. Island time, an hour ahead

Set your watch an hour ahead of Malé on arrival: the island runs on GMT+6 against GMT+5, and the resort recommends scheduling departure flights after 9am.

What JW Marriott Maldives is

It opened in November 2019, the first JW Marriott in the Maldives, on Vagaru island in Shaviyani Atoll, 192 km north of Malé (PR Newswire, official site). The island’s clocks run an hour ahead of the capital, for more daylight in the evening (official site).

There are 60 villas, on the beach or over the water, from 234 to 285 m², every one with a pool (villas). The 2 largest are on 2 floors: the Duplex Overwater Pool Villa, 274 m² for 4 guests, and the Two-Bedroom Duplex Beach Pool Villa, 285 m² with 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms for 5 (signature villas).

Meals mean Aailaa, a buffet in the morning and à la carte at lunch and dinner, Fiamma for pizza at lunch, Kaashi, the Thai restaurant in the trees, Hashi for teppanyaki over the water and Shio for the grill in the evening (restaurants); there is also RIHA, 8 courses of Indian cooking, and the Wine Room, with 1,620 bottles and 320 labels.

The free Little Griffins kids’ club has a 13-metre pirate ship, a children’s pool and over 100 activities a week; teenagers from 12 have a lounge with PlayStation and pool table (official site, experiences). On Google the resort has 4.7 out of 5 from 214 reviews, on Tripadvisor 4.7 from 464, read on 4 and 5 October 2026.

  2. Character

A large, orderly 2019 resort, with Maldivian hospitality from its Thakuru butlers.

  3. Rooms

60 pool villas of 234 to 285 m², the 2-storey duplexes made for families.

  4. Food and social life

5 restaurants plus RIHA, a Wine Room of 320 labels and 98 rums at Rum Baan.

  5. Wellness

Spa by JW over the water with 6 couples’ rooms and a suite, a 24-hour gym, overwater yoga.

  6. The stay as a whole

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do JW Marriott Maldives’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests describe the island’s clear lagoon, the sunset beach and the house reef, where they see sharks and turtles.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. The villas run from 234 to 285 m² and all have a pool; guests write about the space and the housekeeping, and families about the 2-storey duplexes with 2 bedrooms.

  3. Staff and service

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests mention the Thakurus, the resort’s butlers, by name, and remember the kids’ club and the dive centre.

  4. Breakfast

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Breakfast is a buffet at Aailaa: guests write about the variety, with dishes that change every day, and about chefs who will cook to order whatever is asked for.

  5. Price

Talk of the price turns on the seaplane, meals and extras: the flight is $665 per adult, breakfast is charged when the rate does not include it, and under-12s eat free.

The scores come from 162 Google reviews with text, left from 15 October 2018 to 29 August 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 5 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in the Maldives:

  • Sirru Fen Fushi Private Lagoon Resort
  • Le Méridien Maldives
  • W Maldives
  • The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort

Price: for two on the night of 5 November 2026, from $1,933 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).

What a night costs, season by season

Each night taken alone showed $1,933 for 2 adults from 13 to 19 November 2026, against $3,203 a night from 3 to 9 January 2027. I would price the whole stay before choosing dates: for 7 nights from 16 November 2026 the lowest seller listed asked $873 a night, where the same nights taken alone started at $1,933.
