  1. A pool above the lagoon

I would ask for a Water Pool Villa: 126 m² over the lagoon, with a wooden deck and private pool. For a garden beside the sand, the Baros Pool Villa has 134 m² and direct beach access.

  2. Late May into June

From 27 May to 2 June 2027, one night taken alone runs from $679 to $732 for 2 adults; the dearest shown is $1,729 on 31 December 2026, in the calendar read on 12 October 2026.

The Lighthouse tasting menu without wine is $170 per person before its 10% service charge and 17% GST; include those additions when budgeting for dinner.

  4. Dinner beyond the Lime

Half board includes dinner at Lime; at Cayenne or the Lighthouse it gives 30% off dinner food only. Half Board Dine Around includes Cayenne and, for stays of at least 4 nights, one Lighthouse dinner per person per 4-night stay.

What Baros is

Baros has welcomed guests since 1973 (official site) on an island in the south of North Malé Atoll, 25 minutes by speedboat from Velana airport, with boats at any hour of day or night (location). There are 75 villas: 23 Deluxe Villas, 5 Baros Villas, 8 Baros Pool Villas, 15 Water Villas, 15 Water Pool Villas, 7 suites, one residence and one 2-bedroom villa (resort factsheet). Every villa has its own villa host (official site); children are accepted from the age of 8 (about Baros).

The reason so many return is the house reef: it begins 20 metres from shore (Divers Baros), is home to more than 20 resident hawksbill turtles (the turtles) and to whitetip, blacktip and nurse sharks (the sharks). You snorkel alone from sunrise to sunset, after dark only with a guide (diving FAQ). The dive centre opened in 1979 and is a PADI Five Star Gold Palm centre (resort factsheet).

There are 3 restaurants: the Lighthouse, over the water beneath its white sail, built in 2005 (the 2005 rebuild), with 2 tasting menus at $170 and $180 a person without wine (Lighthouse menu); Cayenne Grill above the lagoon; and Lime for breakfast, lunch and dinner (resort factsheet). There is no all-inclusive: breakfast, half board or Half Board Dine Around (meal plans).

Guests give it 4.8 out of 5 on Google from 445 reviews, read on 5 October 2026: they praise the reef, the staff and the villa hosts. Lime’s breakfast buffet comes up too, as does the private pool for those who booked a Pool Villa or a Water Pool Villa (Google).

The scores come from 295 Google reviews with text, left from 27 August 2012 to 4 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 5 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in the Maldives:
