Vakkaru suits families and groups of friends who want a butler for each villa and a club for children aged 3 to 12; the lowest seller showed $1,341 for one night taken alone in November 2026. The seaplane flies in daylight only, so a flight landing after 3.30pm means no same-day transfer.

For quiet I would ask for a Beach Pool Villa: 250 m² with a 34 m² private pool and direct beach access, while 2 guests who wrote in 2026 hear the buggies passing the water villas at night.
The week that costs less
One night taken alone reads $1,431 from 21 to 27 April 2027 (Google, 12 October 2026). Booked as 7 nights from 16 November 2026, the lowest seller asked $2,186 a night; taken alone, those nights start at $1,341.
On top of the rate
Beyond 20 kg checked and 5 kg hand luggage, excess baggage on the transfers costs approximately $6 a kilo each way. Rates are subject to GST, Green Tax and a 10% service charge.
The island clock
The resort keeps Vakkaru Time, GMT +6, an hour ahead of the Maldives’ GMT +5; the resort says it gives guests extended daylight hours during their stay.
What Vakkaru is
The real decision at Vakkaru is beach or water. On the sand are the 250 m² Beach Pool Villas and the residences, up to the 900 m² Four Bedroom, which joins a 2-bedroom house to 2 pool villas: one answer for 2 families, or for grandparents in tow. Over the lagoon, the 140 m² Overwater Villas are the only type without a pool; from late May to October 2026 the resort is adding pools to some of them, which become the Overwater Villa with Pool, so far shown only in renderings.
Guests return above all to the service, with a butler looking after each villa, and to the reef: of the 153 Google reviews with text, 93% of those who mention the staff praise them. In the water villas the buggies can be heard passing on the walkway: anyone after quiet will be happier in a beach villa. Do the sums before you go: the website publishes no price for the transfer or for meal plans.

The scores come from 153 Google reviews with text, left from 25 November 2017 to 27 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Baa Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
Price: for two on the night of 9 November 2026, from $1,341 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).
What a night costs, season by season
One night taken alone for 2 adults reads $1,341 to $2,622 from 13 October to 19 December 2026, then $1,877 to $2,682 from 16 January to 20 April 2027, then $1,431 to $1,483 from 21 April to 5 September 2027. I would price the whole stay before choosing dates.

Vakkaru Maldives reviews
The platforms’ scores, read on 3 October 2026, and what guests write about the service, the villas, the reef and the food.
On 3 October 2026 Google showed 4.7/5 from 209 ratings. We read all 153 Google reviews with text, from 25 November 2017 to 27 September 2026: they are accounts of stays we have not verified.
At the end of May 2026 one guest split 4 nights between a Beach Pool Villa and an Overwater Pool Residence, and writes mostly about the member of staff who spoke Korean and saw to every detail.
In June 2026, 3 nights in an Overwater Villa on full board: generous, good dishes, some with a supplement, and beer at $12. Weak water pressure, and a $200-a-head manta trip run in rough seas.
In April 2026 a couple found the snorkelling outstanding and the villas as good as new, but small, the front door opening straight into the bedroom; at night they heard the buggies. Of the restaurants, they rated Onu.
In February 2026 a family praised the Kids Club, well run and reliable, and the butlers; less so the food, or the noise of buggies and the 7am seaplane in the water villas.
In July 2026 a Russian family returned for a second summer: varied breakfasts, a «fairy-tale» reef, an ever-present butler and a kids’ club their child adored.
In June 2025 a family with children of 14 and 10 had to book 2 villas, since one would not take them all, and found them beside the beach used by boats and jet skis.
The questions people ask before booking Vakkaru, answered from sources read between 3 and 6 October 2026.
What kind of resort is Vakkaru Maldives?
A 5-star resort on its own island in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve: 750 by 250 metres, with 1.6 km of beach and over 2,300 coconut palms, because the island was once a plantation and «vakkaru» means coconut timber in Dhivehi, says the 2025 fact sheet. It turned 6 in December 2023, according to the «About» page, and the Michelin Guide gives it one Key.
The number of units depends on the source: the fact sheet counts 111 villas and residences, the website’s structured data 113. The villa and residence pages now list 12 types, some of which join several houses: the Four Bedroom, for instance, combines a 2-bedroom house with 2 Beach Villas.
Which villas and residences can you choose, and how big are they?
7 residences: the One Bedroom Beach Pool Residence, 335 m²; the One Bedroom Deluxe Beach Pool Residence, 340 m²; the One Bedroom Overwater Pool Residence, 300 m²; the Two Bedroom, 450 m²; the Three Bedroom, 700 m²; the Four Bedroom, 900 m²; and The Vakkaru Overwater Residence, on 2 floors, 1,050 m² with a chef and a butler. The 2025 fact sheet gives different figures for some: 285, 240, 310, 500 and 950 m².
Is it good for children?
Yes. The Parrotfish Club looks after children aged 3 to 12 from 8.30am to 6pm, with a pool, a playground and a different programme each day; the Coconut Club is for teenagers and adults, open round the clock and unsupervised. With the Vakkaru Dream Getaway offer, children under 12 stay free for stays of 5 nights or more, says the offers page.
Check the occupancy villa by villa: the Overwater Villa takes 2 adults on its own page and one child more in the 2025 fact sheet, and in June 2025 a family with children of 14 and 10 had to book 2 villas. The spa’s wellness area is closed to under-16s.
Where is it, and is it quiet?
On Vakkaru Island in Baa Atoll, 125 km north of Malé: 30 minutes by seaplane, says the website’s FAQ. The address on Google is Vakkaru Island, Baa Atoll 20301; the website’s structured data gives postcode 20041. Guests get about on foot or by bicycle, they write, and the resort keeps Vakkaru Time, an hour ahead of Malé.
How quiet it is depends on the villa. In the water villas the buggies can be heard on the wooden walkways, at night too, and so can the morning seaplane, several guests wrote between 2021 and 2026. Until October 2026 the resort is also working on the water villas, in screened zones.
How do you get there, and what does the transfer cost?
By seaplane: 30 minutes in a shared aircraft for up to 15 passengers, says the transfers page, after the resort’s lounge at the terminal. It flies in daylight only: for a same-day connection the international flight must land between 6am and 3.30pm and leave after 9am. The alternative is a 20-minute domestic flight to Dharavandhoo and 30 minutes by speedboat.
Flight details are due at least 72 hours ahead. Each guest may take 20 kg in the hold and 5 kg in the cabin, with excess at about $6 a kilo each way. The transfer price is not published; the Idyllic Romance package includes it. Booking.com gives a 25-minute seaplane flight, the website 30.
Can you arrive by car or park?
No: Vakkaru is an island, reached only by seaplane or by domestic flight and speedboat, as the transfers page explains. The website does not mention parking; on the island guests walk, cycle or use the resort’s buggies.
What is the beach like, and how do you get into the sea?
The beach villas and residences open straight onto the sand, the water villas have steps into the lagoon, and the One Bedroom Overwater Pool Residence gives direct access to the reef, say the website’s villa pages. The beach runs 1.6 km round the island.
Not every shore is the same: in June 2025 a family found itself beside the beach used by boats and jet skis. The map in the fact sheet marks a strong current near the house reef.
Is there a reef you can swim to?
Yes: the website describes a house reef and guided snorkelling around the island, with blue holes marked on the fact sheet’s map. Masks and fins are free for the whole stay and can be kept in the villa, 2 guests wrote in 2026.
Reviews of the reef are almost all positive: in April 2026 a couple called it world class, and in June a guest saw rays and sharks 5 minutes from a water villa.
What pools are there?
11 of the 12 types have a private pool, from 12 m² in the Beach Villa with Plunge Pool to 55 m² in the Three Bedroom and The Vakkaru Overwater Residence; the Overwater Villas have none until the works convert them. The main pool, says the «About» page, sits among the greenery beside Isoletta and Cabana, and the Parrotfish Club has its own for children.
The Merana Spa wellness area has a warm whirlpool and a cold plunge pool.
Are the pools heated?
The website gives neither heating nor temperature for any pool. The only water it describes as warm is the whirlpool at Merana Spa, beside a cold plunge pool; the spa is open from 10am to 9pm.
Where do you eat, and when?
6 restaurants, 2 bars and a wine cellar, says the dining page. Amaany: breakfast buffet from 7am to 10.30am, and dinner on selected evenings from 6.30pm to 10pm. Onu, for Southeast Asian cooking, and Vakku, the grill on the beach: dinner from 6.30pm to 10pm. Isoletta, Italian by the pool: lunch from 12.30pm to 4pm, snacks until 6pm, dinner from 6.30pm.
Anguru Teppanyaki has 10 seats at the counter and set menus at lunch and dinner, by reservation only; Lagoon Bar, on stilts, serves sushi and sashimi at lunch and dinner and drinks until 11pm. The Vakkaru Reserve cellar, 5 times recognised by Wine Spectator, is booked 6 hours ahead. Each week there is a one-night pop-up dinner in an unexpected corner of the island, and dinners on the sandbank too.
Is Vakkaru all-inclusive? What do the meal plans include?
The website has no meal-plan page and no published all-inclusive. 2 offers include half board: Wellness Your Way, for stays until 20 December 2026, and the Vakkaru Dream Getaway Early Bird, says the villas page.
Guests describe full board: in June 2026 some dishes carried a supplement and a beer cost $12; in July one guest advised taking it with drinks, «or the restaurant bills will surprise you». The menus, the 2026 Cabana list included, give prices in dollars plus 10% service and GST, 17% since 1 July 2025 (MIRA, read on 15 October 2026).
What is Merana Spa like?
Merana Spa has its treatment pavilions over the water, 12 rooms according to the 2025 fact sheet, and a wellness area with a sauna, steam room, warm whirlpool, cold plunge pool and an ocean sundeck. Next door are the gym with Technogym equipment, open 24 hours, the yoga pavilion and the salon. The website does not give its size in square metres.
Ayurveda is with Siddhalepa, the Sri Lankan house: it starts with the resident Ayurvedic doctor, then programmes of 3 to 15 days. Guests from 2023 to 2025 praise the massages with a view of the sea.
Is the spa included in the rate, and can non-residents use it?
The 2026 spa menu says the wellness area, with its steam room, sauna, whirlpool, cold plunge and sundeck, is complimentary for spa guests, meaning those having a treatment; treatments are paid separately, plus 10% service and taxes. Under-16s are not admitted.
The website publishes no day pass for people not staying, and the island is reached only by the resort’s transfers. Treatment time is included in 2 cases: The Vakkaru Overwater Residence includes a 60-minute in-villa treatment per guest, and the Idyllic Romance package «spa time».
What are the spa’s opening hours?
From 10am to 9pm every day, says the 2026 menu; outside those hours you can ask with at least 48 hours’ notice. Treatments are booked ahead, and cancelling less than 6 hours before costs 50%. The gym is open 24 hours.
Which treatments are there, and what do they cost?
From the 2026 menu: a 60-minute Balinese massage $200, the 90-minute Signature Massage $255, the 150-minute coconut Vakkaru Spa Journey $390 per person, and A Moment for 2, 90 minutes, $499 per couple; the Natura Bissé rituals start at $310 for 120 minutes. You can also book blocks of time, from $900 for 5 hours.
All prices are plus 10% service and taxes, and an in-villa treatment costs $50 more per person. There are treatments for expectant mothers, though not in the first trimester.
What else is on the island?
Splash, the dive and watersports centre, open from 8am to 6pm, with the resort’s yacht; 2 tennis courts with a coach, a padel court, beach volleyball and football; the jungle cinema; the Sand Boutique and a clinic, say the fact sheet and the experiences page.

The villa pages also list From Beach to Beach, 7 nights split between Fujairah and Vakkaru, the Early Bird with half board and the Island Wellness retreat. The discounts are not given as percentages.
Can you marry or honeymoon at Vakkaru?
The resort offers island ceremonies and vow renewals, says the 2025 fact sheet, and has pages for weddings, honeymoons and other celebrations. Prices, capacities and the ceremony’s legal standing are not published: you go through an enquiry.
For a honeymoon there is the Idyllic Romance Package. The World Travel Awards named it the World’s Leading Luxury Honeymoon Resort for the fourth year running in 2023, the website notes.
Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?
The website publishes no programme for 31 December 2026. The latest it shows is the Festive Fiesta 2023–2024, with a James Bond-themed evening and gala dinner. On 12 October 2026 Google showed $6,447 for 2 on the nights of 20 and 21 December, and no prices from 22 December to 10 January 2027.

When is it open, and when is the best season?
The website announces no seasonal closure, and its offers run to 20 December 2027. From late May to October 2026 some water villas are under works, says the announcement of 12 May: the beach, restaurants and spa stay open, and guests whose booking is affected are contacted.
The FAQ gives November to April as the drier season, with occasional showers from May to October; in June 2026 one guest found the wind and waves strong for snorkelling.
How much does a night cost?
Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, for 2 adults and one night, taxes and fees included: $1,341 on 7 and 12 October 2026, $1,640 on 18 October and 16 November, $1,392 on 2 November, $1,893 on 1 December, $6,448 on 20 and 21 December, and $2,370 from 11 to 31 January 2027. In the 153 Google reviews with text, from 2017 to 2026, the service is praised by 93% of those who mention it, the location by 90%, the villas by 88%.
Breakfast pleases all 15 who mention it, and several reviews call the stay «worth every penny». In the water villas, several guests write, the buggies can be heard passing on the walkways.
What taxes and charges are added?
The restaurant menus, the 2026 Cabana list and the spa menu give prices in dollars plus 10% service and taxes, GST at 17% since 1 July 2025 (MIRA, read on 15 October 2026). The website does not say which taxes are added to villa rates. Google Hotels’ prices for the Maldives include taxes and fees. Excess baggage costs about $6 a kilo each way.
