Dhigu suits families who want a beach villa and a kids’ club, with the lowest price any seller showed on Google for a night for 2 adults from $971. For a holiday organised entirely around adults, I would choose an adults-only island.

For a private pool on the beach, I would ask for the Sunset Beach Pool Villa: 150 m², with a 5.8-metre pool. 2 reviewers recommend choosing the sunset side.
The week in November
Read on 12 October 2026, the nights from 19 to 25 November cost $971–$978 each. The dearest night shown, 31 December, costs $3,765; I would start with the November dates.
The extra bed charge
If you need an extra bed, Booking.com lists $388 per person per night for guests aged 12 or over, on request. Cots for children aged 0–2 are free on request.
The bicycles between meals
Between breakfast and dinner, leave time to cycle around the island: 3 reviewers describe enjoying the bicycles, including children who loved the freedom to ride around.
What Anantara Dhigu is
Dhigu is chosen for its lagoon and its ease. The speedboat takes half an hour from the airport at any hour, and the island, long and narrow, has its beach along one side and the over-water villas reaching out into the shallow turquoise lagoon. There are 110 villas in 10 types from 119 to 321 m²: 70 on the beach, on the sunrise or the sunset side, and 40 over the water, refurbished over 4 months and reopened in June 2024. Guests recommend the sunset side for the light and the sunrise side for calmer water.
It is a resort built round children: the Dhoni Kids’ Club, bicycles for every villa, a glass-bottomed boat and a Tropicsurf surf school. Dinner draws on 3 islands: on Dhigu, Fushi Café, Italian Aqua and the over-water grill Sea.Fire.Salt; on Veli, the adults-only sister island, dinner at Cumin, Origami and Baan Huraa, open to families who book. In the 500 most recent Google reviews, 88% of those who mention the staff write well of them.
There is more to add to the villa rate: the shared speedboat costs $354 per adult on Booking.com, and the website’s rates exclude tax, service and Green Tax. The reef is not off the beach: you take a boat to Gulhifushi. And between January and March 2026, 3 guests wrote of works in view, a building site in front of the villa or 2 villas being rebuilt next door.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 7 February 2018 to 26 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in South Malé Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Dhigu, Veli or OZEN LIFE MAADHOO
Veli is the choice for an adults-only island across the same lagoon. OZEN LIFE MAADHOO suits a stay built around its INDULGENCE plan, whose inclusions cover the return speedboat transfer.
On Dhigu, Fushi Café serves buffet breakfasts and themed buffet dinners, Aqua Italian food by the pool and Sea.Fire.Salt grilled fish and meat over the lagoon. With the shuttle boat you dine on Veli: Cumin for India and Sri Lanka, Origami for Japanese food and teppanyaki, Baan Huraa for Thailand, on stilts.
6 treatment rooms over the lagoon, 2 open-air salas for Thai massage, a facial room with a beauty salon, and indoor and outdoor showers; it opens from 10am to 7pm. Ayurvedic therapies are given at Balance Wellness on Veli. The sauna and steam room are in the spa’s relaxation area.
The reef to snorkel is Gulhifushi’s, the picnic islet a few minutes away by boat, where the Tiki Bar opens from 10am to 5pm. Masks and fins are free at Aquafanatics, kayaks for up to 2 hours a day under the offers; the dive centre runs to 35 sites, the furthest 30 minutes out.
Good to know before you book
The website’s rates exclude tax, service and Green Tax; on all inclusive, dinner at Sea.Fire.Salt, Baan Huraa and Origami is a $60 credit per adult. Source: anantara.com
The speedboat is extra. Booking.com, read on 3 October 2026, charges $354 per adult from 12 and $176 per child aged 2 to 11 for the shared boat until 7 January 2027, then $373 and $187; a private boat for up to 6 costs $1,158. The website’s Summer Escape and Paradise Escape offers take 50% off for stays until 15 October 2026.
Off Dhigu’s beach lies the lagoon, shallow and clear, but no reef within easy swimming reach: the website sends you by boat to Gulhifushi for house-reef snorkelling. In June 2026 the resort laid Theyra Maa in the lagoon, thirteen 3D-printed clay structures meant to help coral grow back.
Dhigu is close to Malé: other islands are in view from the villas, and between January and March 2026, 3 guests wrote of works in sight, a building site in front of the villa, once from an over-water villa, and 2 villas being rebuilt next to another. In July 2026 the sunset side was windier; the sunrise side has calmer water and some passing boats.
Veli is an adults-only island from 18: families staying on Dhigu go there only for dinner, booked, at Cumin from 6.30 to 10pm, Origami from 6.30 to 9.30pm and Baan Huraa. Dhoni Bar and Dhigu’s Yellow Fin Club take guests from 18 only, and breakfast at Cumin is for adults.
The website’s rates exclude tax, service and Green Tax. On all inclusive, dinner at Sea.Fire.Salt, Baan Huraa and Origami is a $60 credit per adult, and from 24 December to 8 January, under the Stay Longer Special’s terms, meal plans are not sold.
Between December 2023 and March 2026, 4 Google reviews describe rooms, terraces or the main pool as showing their age. The 40 over-water villas were refurbished in 2024.

An 8-night honeymoon
In September 2026 an Italian couple in a Sunset Beach Villa wrote that their package opened almost every restaurant on the islands, drinks aside, with breakfast always at Fushi Café: Aqua for an Italian dinner, Origami on Veli for Japanese. A boat between the islands was always there, and Gulhifushi was the easiest place to snorkel.
In September 2026 a family with a 7-year-old praised the Kids’ Club, full of activities, and Baan Huraa, their best dinner. The rest let them down: a lunch included in their package charged to the bill, a buggy that never came, pillows and a mattress only average for the price.
Back 8 years after a honeymoon on Veli, with a one-year-old son, 2 guests on half board in a Sunset Beach Pool Villa praised the cot, the bottle steriliser and the babysitting. The private pool was too cold and unheated, and the Wi-Fi weak on the beach.
A family on holiday in July 2026 warns that there is no easily reached reef off the island: you swim in the lagoon, but for coral you need a boat trip. The sunset side was windier, the sunrise side more sheltered, with some passing boats.
In March 2026, from an over-water villa, a guest wrote that the room and deck needed renovating and that a building site in front spoilt the idea of a secluded island. Breakfast and the choice of restaurants made up for it.
In February 2026, on their ninth trip to the Maldives, 2 guests saw rodents in a villa and in the grounds, found their butler hard to reach and the cooking uninspired. They singled out a breakfast waiter and the Thai restaurant’s chef.
What people ask before booking Anantara Dhigu, with sources read between 3 and 6 October 2026.
What kind of resort is Anantara Dhigu?
A 5-star Anantara resort, Minor Hotels’ brand, on Dhigufinolhu, an island in South Malé Atoll: the official website calls it a family resort, with 110 villas on the beach and over the water. It belongs to a group of 3 islands with the adults-only Anantara Veli and Naladhu Private Island, and shares restaurants, boats and a spa with Veli; Gulhifushi is the picnic islet.
Minor Hotels’ release of 10 June 2024 announced the 40 over-water villas refurbished over 4 months by the SODA studio, with 4 new Deluxe Sunset Over Water Pool Villas. The resort is in the MICHELIN Guide’s hotel selection and holds Green Growth 2050 certification. The website gives no opening year; the first Google reviews date from 2012.
The one-bedroom villas take 3 adults and 1 child. The website does not give the number of each type; the 2024 release counts 40 over-water villas, 4 of them Deluxe. The areas include the outdoor space.
Where is it, and how quiet is the island?
On Dhigufinolhu in South Malé Atoll, 21 km from Velana airport; the official address is «P.O. Box 2098, Dhigufinolhu, South Male Atoll». Veli lies across the lagoon, a minute away by boat, and Gulhifushi a few minutes.
A guest in September 2026 put the island at about 800 metres long and found it peaceful and easy to get round; each villa has its own bicycles. Other islands are in view, though, and between January and March 2026, 3 guests wrote of works in sight, a building site or 2 villas being rebuilt.
How do you get there from Malé, and what does the speedboat cost?
By speedboat: 30 minutes on the website, weather permitting, 35 on Booking.com; the 2024 release says it runs 24 hours a day. Booking.com, read on 3 October 2026, charges it separately: the shared boat at $354 per adult from 12 and $176 per child aged 2 to 11 until 7 January 2027, then $373 and $187; a private boat at $1,158 for up to 6, children free, until December 2027. The website publishes no fares.
The Maldives Summer Escape and Maldives Paradise Escape offers halve the shared return transfer for stays until 15 October 2026. Flight details are due 48 hours ahead; guests in 2026 describe a resort lounge at the airport and help with luggage all the way to the airline’s check-in.
Can you arrive by car or park?
No: it is an island, reached only by boat. Google Hotels lists parking as unavailable. Tripadvisor’s listing, which recommends a car to get there, is wrong: the only arrival is the jetty, after 30 minutes by speedboat from Velana.
How do you get into the sea?
The Beach Villas and Beach Pool Villas have direct beach access; steps lead from the over-water decks into the lagoon, and the 2 over-water pool villas have direct lagoon access, on the villas page. The lagoon is shallow and clear: «so shallow, you can keep swimming», a guest wrote in May 2026.
A guest in September 2026 mentions a lifeguard on the beach. On the sunset side, in July 2026 as in 2021, there was more wind and current; the sunrise side is more sheltered.
Is there a reef you can swim to?
Not off Dhigu’s beach. The website points to Gulhifushi, the picnic islet a few minutes away by boat, for house-reef snorkelling, with free access, and the FAQ gives masks, fins and kayaks free at Aquafanatics. In July 2026 a family confirmed it: you swim in the lagoon, for coral you need the boat. In September 2026 a guest on a fourth stay wrote instead of walking about 700 metres from the villa to a reef full of sharks, octopus, turtles and rays, without saying where.
In June 2026, says Minor Hotels’ release, the resort laid Theyra Maa in the lagoon: 13 flower-shaped structures of 3D-printed clay to help coral grow back. Beyond the atoll, the nurse shark trip goes to Vaavu and the dive centre runs to 35 sites.
What are the pools like?
An infinity pool on the beach, with Aqua beside it, which also serves the loungers and the ocean hammock; Expedia also lists a children’s pool. Private pools come with the Beach Pool Villas, 5.8 metres long, the 2 Two Bedroom villas, the Sunset Over Water Pool Villa and the 4 Deluxe, with 18 m² of infinity pool on the lagoon. Veli’s adults-only Dhoni Bar has its own pool.
Are the pools heated, and when are they open?
The website gives neither heating nor temperature, and publishes no hours for the main pool; Aqua, at its edge, serves drinks from 10am to midnight.
Where do you eat, and until when?
On Dhigu, on the dining page: Fushi Café, an international buffet from 7 to 10.30am and at dinner from 6 to 9.30pm, with a Maldivian night and boduberu drums; Aqua, Italian by the pool, lunch from noon to 4pm and dinner from 7 to 10pm; Sea.Fire.Salt, the over-water grill, from 6.30 to 10pm; The Yellow Fin Club, a bar above the lagoon from 5pm, over-18s only; Gulhifushi’s Tiki Bar from 10am to 5pm.
On Veli, a minute away by boat: Cumin, South Asian, Origami, Japanese with teppanyaki at 6.30 and 8.30pm, Baan Huraa, Thai on stilts, all at dinner from 6.30 to 10pm, and the adults-only Dhoni Bar. Dhigu families dine on Veli by booking; at Origami until 9.30pm. There are also private dinners on the beach or on Gulhifushi, the Spice Spoons cooking class and in-villa dining round the clock. No restaurant is underwater: Sea.Fire.Salt and Baan Huraa stand over the lagoon.
Which meal plans are there, and what do they include?
The Stay Longer Special’s terms list breakfast, half board with a 3-course set dinner, full board adding a 3-course set lunch, and all inclusive with drinks. All Inclusive Indulgence gives breakfast at Fushi Café or Cumin, adults only, lunch at Aqua, Dhoni Bar or Gulhifushi’s Tiki Bar, dinner at Fushi Café, Aqua, Cumin or Dhoni Bar, or a $60 credit per adult at Sea.Fire.Salt, Baan Huraa and Origami, with drinks from the package list during each bar’s hours and soft drinks in the minibar daily.
Special menu items and promotions are excluded. Meal plans are not sold from 24 December to 8 January, under the Stay Longer Special. Children up to 12 dine free with their parents, says the FAQ; the offers say from 2 to 11, from the children’s menu and on the parents’ plan. Booking.com adds Sea.Fire.Salt and the food truck to the all-inclusive lunch, which the official page does not name.
What is the spa like?
It stands over the water: the spa page lists 6 treatment rooms over the lagoon, 2 open-air salas for Thai massage, a facial room with a beauty salon, a hair salon and indoor and outdoor showers. The sauna and steam room are in the relaxation area, under the Summer Escape; Surfer’s Paradise also mentions hot and cold plunge pools without saying whether on Dhigu or at Balance Wellness, Veli’s spa, where the Ayurvedic therapies are given.
The website publishes no floor area. The team includes a yoga and physiotherapy practitioner, a nutrition specialist, a myofascial release therapist and a strength and combat-fitness coach.
Is the spa included, is there a fee, and can outside guests use it?
Treatments are paid for. The pages read list free sauna and steam among the privileges of the Maldives Summer Escape, an offer the site gave as valid until 15 October 2026, and treatments included in some offers: a 60-minute massage per person per night on the Spa Pamper & Wellness Retreat, a couple’s treatment on Honeymoon Romance, 90 minutes for 2 on Surfer’s Paradise.
No page of the resort publishes a day pass for anyone not staying on the islands.
What are the spa’s hours?
Every day from 10am to 7pm, on the spa page; you book by email or phone. The Spa Pamper & Wellness Retreat’s sessions are booked in advance, and the Couples Sunset Ritual is given at sunset in the open salas.
Which treatments are there, and what do they cost?
The spa page offers Romantic Indulgence, 2 hours 30 minutes with a coconut scrub, Swedish massage and a lavender milk bath; the Couples Sunset Ritual, 75 minutes in the open salas; the Dhigu Healing Massage, 60 or 90 minutes with the island’s coconut oil. Veli offers Abhyanga, Pinda Swedana and Shirodhara, and consultations on detox, sleep, gut health and skin.
The website publishes no prices. In reviews of 2025 and 2026 the massages recur among the best moments of the stay.
Is it good for children, and from what age?
Yes, it is the group’s family resort. The Dhoni Kids’ Club has an indoor and outdoor play space with daily activities, says the FAQ; the website gives no age range. There is babysitting, which a couple used in August 2026, a glass-bottomed boat for small children and non-swimmers, cinema under the stars and the surf school. There is no minimum age: on Booking.com children of all ages are welcome.
Up to 2 children aged 11 or under stay free in existing beds, on Expedia; on Booking.com those from 12 pay as adults, cots are free and an extra bed from 12 costs $388 per person per night. The one-bedroom villas take 3 adults and 1 child. The Yellow Fin Club, Dhoni Bar and Veli stay adults-only, except for booked dinners.
What is there on the island besides the villas?
According to the 2024 release: a tennis court, space for volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess and pétanque, a Technogym gym, a boxing ring and personal training; the website adds an indoor golf studio, the Aquafanatics water-sports centre, the Tropicsurf surf school and a marine biologist. Wi-Fi, the gym and bicycles are free.
There are no rooms adapted for wheelchairs: the FAQ offers a wooden ramp at the villa entrance. Google Hotels lists meeting rooms, a doctor on call and laundry; on Booking.com pets are not allowed.
Which offers are there?
Read on 3 October 2026: the Stay Longer Special, with breakfast and flexible cancellation up to 7 days ahead; the Maldives Summer Escape, breakfast and dinner and the speedboat at half price, until 15 October 2026; the Maldives Paradise Escape, from 4 nights, with coral to plant; Honeymoon Romance, from 3 nights, with a private dinner and a couple’s treatment; Surfer’s Paradise, with Tropicsurf lessons; Islands of Indulgence for Anantara’s 25 years, from 4 nights, with dinner on the yacht Raaya.
Booking direct, from 3 nights, the resort gives $200 of credit in the over-water pool villas and the 2 Two Bedroom villas and $100 in the others, for the spa or dining but not gala dinners. Endless Horizon, still online, had to be booked by 31 August 2026.
Can you get married at Anantara Dhigu?
With a symbolic, non-religious ceremony and a symbolic certificate: the website offers the Beach Ceremony, under an arch of braided palm fronds, with boduberu drums, a celebrant, cake, Champagne, an hour of photographs and an album; the Ocean Ceremony, with the island chief as witness, a couple’s treatment before and a beach barbecue after; and the simpler Tropical Romance, with a floral arch and Champagne.
The pages read publish neither prices nor capacities. In April 2026 a mother described her daughter’s wedding on the beach at sunset, decided and arranged within a few days.
Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?
Yes. The 2026 festive programme has a beachfront gala dinner on 31 December, from 8pm until late, with live entertainment; on Christmas Eve an open-air gala dinner on Aquafanatics Beach from 7.30 to 10.30pm; the tree lighting on 21 December and Santa arriving by sea on the 25th at 10am.
The programme gives no price for the gala dinners, and the direct-booking credit does not cover them; meal plans are not sold from 24 December to 8 January. On Google Hotels, read on 12 October 2026, the night of 31 December cost $3,765 for 2.
Can you play golf?
Only on the simulator: the website lists an indoor golf studio, which a guest tried in May 2026. There is no course and no golf package; for sport there are tennis, the gym and the boxing ring, says the 2024 release.
When is it open, and when is the best season?
All year: the website announces no closure, and on Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, 116 of the 117 nights from 7 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 had a price; 21 December had none, which does not mean closed.
The FAQ names November to April as the best season. Surfing runs from May to September on the surf page, and manta rays visit Sandune from July to September, says the dive centre.
How much does a night cost?
Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, for 2 adults and one night: $880 on 14 October 2026, $978 on 16 November, $2,396 on the night of 24 December, $3,765 on 31 December, the calendar’s peak, and $1,662 on 15 January 2027. For 7 October the official website, on the same card, asked $904 for a Sunrise Beach Villa.
These figures already include taxes and fees: the official website’s booking link declared almost a quarter of it as tax. The calendar names no meal plan; the speedboat, on Booking.com, is extra. From 8 to 31 January 2027 every night cost $1,662.
What do the reviews say?
On 3 October 2026 Google showed 4.7/5 from 921 ratings, Tripadvisor 4.8/5 from 4,395, with a 2026 Travellers’ Choice and value at 4.4, and Booking.com 9.2/10 from 146, with Wi-Fi at 7.5. In the 500 most recent Google reviews, 91% of those who mention the location write well of it, 88% of those who mention the staff and 84% of those who mention the villas. The speedboat is charged separately from the villa rate, as are the tax, service charge and Green Tax excluded from the website’s rates.
Which taxes and charges are added?
The website’s rates exclude tax, service and Green Tax, under each offer’s terms, such as All Inclusive Indulgence’s; the website publishes no amounts. Google Hotels’ prices for the Maldives include taxes and fees. The speedboat is extra, and in May 2026 a guest found an optional sustainability charge of $1 a night on the bill.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in from 2pm and check-out by noon, on the website. On Expedia early check-in and late check-out depend on availability and carry a fee. In February 2026, 2 guests with an afternoon boat were told check-out stayed at noon.
