For couples, friends and families who want a lively island, The Standard Maldives starts at $435 a night from 12 August 2027: the lowest price any seller showed on Google for one night, for 2 adults. It suits less anyone after a quiet island, since it is social by design.
Co-founder & CEOMarco Di CesareHe spent weeks comparing hotels and kept finding that the detail deciding the trip was missing from the hotel website. 10 years in marketing technology, 2 of them building with AI.About MarcoHow we write the guideLinkedIn
For snorkelling I would ask for an Ocean Overwater Pool Villa, a few metres from the house reef. The Lagoon Overwater Pool Villa has the same 110 m², king bed and plunge pool, over shallow, clear water with direct access to the lagoon.
The week to consider
Consider 12–18 August 2027: single nights for 2 adults ranged from $435 to $473 on Google, read 12 October 2026. For 29 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, every night shown was $1,245.
The seaplane and the rate
Booking.com, read on 4 October 2026, lists the return seaplane at $550 per adult and $340 for ages 2 to 11. The resort’s offer terms say the rate excludes service charges, mandatory resort fees and taxes.
Free bicycles on the island
Bicycles are available free of charge, the resort’s FAQ says, and the island is a natural one that can be walked round in 15 to 25 minutes.
What The Standard Maldives is
The Standard, Maldives is the first island resort of The Standard, a brand the MICHELIN Guide links with nights out in New York, Los Angeles and Miami, and which Hyatt now sells on its own site. It opened on Huruvalhi, in Raa Atoll, as Carpe Diem: Google reviews of 2019 still call it that, and Booking.com keeps the old name in its web address; the first review naming The Standard is dated 19 December 2019. The island has 115 villas, 88 over the water and 27 on the beach, each with its own plunge pool.
The reason to choose it is the mix. The ocean-side water villas sit a few metres from a house reef that, the resort says, holds 98 kinds of coral; Lil' Shark takes children from 4 to 12, a teens' lounge the older ones; and in the evening there are 5 restaurants, among them Guduguda for Maldivian food on floor cushions and Onda over the water, with a resident DJ at Todis, under what the resort calls the largest disco ball in the Maldives.
The price is reasonable for the Maldives and rises quickly. On Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, a night for 2 with breakfast cost $538 to $795 until 23 December, then $1,052 to $1,245 from 24 December to 7 January, when 2 gala dinners are compulsory and charged separately. The seaplane costs $550 per adult; in August 2026, 2 guests wrote that every villa was being refurbished, to be finished by November.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 11 January 2021 to 29 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Raa Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
Price: for two on the night of 14 August 2027, from $435 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).

The Standard, Maldives reviews

On 3 October 2026 Google showed 4.7/5 from 739 ratings. We read the newest 500 Google reviews with text written since the resort became The Standard, from 11 January 2021 to 29 September 2026; the figures by topic come from those 500. They are accounts of stays we have not verified.

New villas from November
In August 2026 a guest staying on the island described a full refurbishment: new furniture, roofs and fabrics, coffee machines without capsules, calmer colours inside. By 1 November, the guest wrote, nobody would recognise the villas; the disco ball in the bathroom stays.
In March 2026 a guest stayed in both. The beach villas were more spacious and private; the water villas a once-in-a-lifetime experience, with tropical fish swimming below while you brush your teeth.
In October 2025 a guest on a second trip to the Maldives found the house reef best between ocean villas 1 and 14 and near the supply jetty, 2 or 3 minutes' swim from an ocean water villa at high tide. At 75 to 80% occupancy the pool and beach never felt crowded.
In June 2025 a couple would not recommend it for a honeymoon: young children playing loudly in the pool all day, a large party that reserved parts of the resort and played music late into the night, and a disappointing spa. 2 stars.
In February 2026 a couple waited 2 hours for the seaplane in the resort's lounge at Malé, which they found pleasant but without alcohol or fresh food. On the island each guest has a host on WhatsApp who books dinners and activities.
In July 2026 a family writing in German, in an Ocean Beach Villa, found it large and cleaned twice a day; for their 2-year-old daughter the private pool was the highlight. The food was the one thing with room to improve, despite themed buffets every night.
What people ask before booking The Standard, Maldives, with sources read between 3 and 6 October 2026.
What kind of resort is The Standard, Maldives?
A 5-star resort, as Google Hotels lists it, on its own island, Huruvalhi, in Raa Atoll: the first island resort of The Standard, now sold on Hyatt's site. The resort FAQ counts 115 villas, 88 over the water and 27 on the beach, all with a private pool; the resort site adds that Condé Nast Traveller lists it among the best hotels in the Maldives.
It opened as Carpe Diem: Google reviews of 2019 use that name, a Korean guest in March 2019 wrote that it had opened in December 2018, and Booking.com still keeps it in its web address. The first Google review naming The Standard is dated 19 December 2019. In August 2026, 2 guests wrote that every villa was being refurbished, to be finished by 1 November 2026.
The one-bedroom water villas take 2 adults and 2 children; they also take up to 3 adults, according to the FAQ on Hyatt’s booking site, read on 15 October 2026, though the resort FAQ rules out 3 adults with a child in the Ocean Reef Water Villa. The beach villas take up to 4 adults. The resort does not publish how many villas there are of each type. On 7 October 2026 Booking.com asked $538 for 2 in an Ocean Overwater Villa on Google Hotels.
Where is it, and is the island quiet?
On Huruvalhi, in Raa Atoll, about 148 km from Velana airport according to the resort FAQ, which says you can walk round the island in 15 to 25 minutes. The nearest domestic airport is Dharavandhoo, 18 miles, about 29 km, away according to Booking.com.
It is a lively island: the resort runs weekly pool parties, live music and a resident DJ at Todis. Anyone who wants company finds it by the pool and, in the evening, at Todis; anyone mainly after quiet, on a honeymoon for instance, will be happier elsewhere.
How do you get there from Malé, and what does the transfer cost?
By seaplane with Trans Maldivian Airways: about 35 minutes according to the transfer page, 45 according to the FAQ, sometimes with stops at other resorts. The return flight costs $550 per adult and $340 per child from 2 to 11, infants free, according to the official site; with Seaplane on Us it is free for stays of 5 nights or more.
The alternative is a 30-minute domestic flight to Dharavandhoo and 25 minutes by speedboat, $450 per adult return on Booking.com, though the transfer page says only seaplanes run for now. Flights land in daylight only: arrivals must reach Malé by 3.30pm. Guests wait in the resort’s own lounge at the seaplane terminal.
Can you arrive by car or park?
No: it is an island reached only by seaplane or by boat, with no roads or car park, and the MICHELIN Guide lists no parking. Bicycles are free, according to the resort FAQ, and a buggy is available for guests who find walking difficult.
How do you get into the sea?
Straight from the villa: every one opens on to the lagoon, the ocean or the beach, the resort site says, and life jackets are in each villa. Lagoon villas stand over shallow water with a sandy bottom; ocean villas look on to the house reef, which you reach from their steps or from the jetty.
In March 2025 a returning guest wrote of erosion on the east side, in front of the Ocean Beach Villas; in July 2025 another praised beaches with no breakwaters in front of them.
Is there a house reef you can swim to?
Yes. For the house reef snorkel, the resort says, you walk from the lobby to the jetty and jump in; the reef holds 98 kinds of coral and more than 220 species of marine life, and the Ocean Overwater Villas stand a few metres from it. In October 2025 a guest found it best between ocean villas 1 and 14 and near the supply jetty, 2 or 3 minutes' swim at high tide.
Guests in 2025 and 2026 report sharks, rays, turtles and dolphins nearby; in August 2026 an Italian guest found the reef small but full of fish and intact coral. Further out, the resort runs turtle trips, a snorkel safari 20 minutes away by boat and manta trips to Hanifaru Bay in season; a boat dive costs $90 plus a $25 boat fee, according to the dive centre page.
What pools are there?
Every villa has its own plunge pool. On the island there is the main pool, with Todis beside its deck and, guests write, the beach in front of Kula; Lil' Shark has a paddling pool for children, and The Standard Spa an infinity pool over the water, for adults, according to the resort site.
Google Hotels also lists an adults-only pool and a hot tub, Expedia 2 outdoor pools and a children's pool. The inflatable Aqua Water Park in the lagoon is seasonal, closed in the monsoon and in bad weather, according to the Seaplane on Us offer.
Are the pools heated, and when are they open?
The resort publishes neither the water temperature nor pool hours; the villa pools are private and always open. Todis, beside the main pool, opens from 10am to midnight according to the dining page, and the water park in the lagoon runs only outside the monsoon, which the FAQ places between May and October.
Where can you eat, and until when?
5 restaurants and a bar, according to the resort FAQ. Kula, the buffet with live cooking, serves breakfast from 6.30am to 10am, lunch from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and dinner from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Onda, Mediterranean, is on an overwater pavilion; Guduguda serves Maldivian food at low tables, BBQ Shak grills fish and meat over coconut-shell charcoal on the beach, and Joos Café makes coffee, smoothies and paninis.
Their hours differ by source. Onda: 5pm to midnight every day on Hyatt's dining page, 5.30pm to 9.30pm except Sunday on the resort site. Guduguda and BBQ Shak open 3 evenings each, 6.30pm to 9.30pm, on days the pages give differently. Joos Café: 9am to 7pm, 11am to 9pm or 9am to 9pm. In-villa dining runs from 7am to midnight and is charged on every plan; Booking.com still lists a Japanese restaurant, Beru Bar, which the resort's pages no longer name.
What meal plans are there, and what do they include?
4, according to the meal plans page: breakfast at Kula is included in every rate; half board adds dinner at Kula, full board lunch too, with coffee, tea, juice and soft drinks. Premium All-Inclusive adds lunch at Kula, Joos Café or Todis, dinner at Onda, Guduguda and BBQ Shak, champagne, more than 50 wines, spirits and cocktails by the glass, and a minibar refilled daily with 2 bottles of wine and 2 spirits.
It also includes one excursion, sunset fishing or a dolphin or sunset cruise, non-motorised water sports, 10 pieces of laundry and, for stays of 6 nights or more, a 45-minute massage or a DIY hammam per adult; 2 children under 12 stay and eat free. Private dinners and in-villa dining are extra; plans cannot be mixed in one booking, and everyone in a villa must be on the same plan, though you can upgrade during the stay.
What is the spa like?
The Standard Spa stands over the lagoon and is for adults. Its contrast circuit, the resort site says, takes in a steam room, a cold plunge, a sauna and an overwater infinity pool; there are also a coed hammam, an indoor sun lounge with ocean views, the Tonic Lounge for alcohol-free drinks, a yoga pavilion and a recovery salon for beauty rituals.
The resort’s description on Booking.com and Tripadvisor counts 9 private treatment rooms. No source gives the spa’s size in square metres. In Google reviews from 2026, guests write about the couples’ massages and the yoga classes.
Is the spa included, is there a fee, and can outside guests use it?
Treatments are paid. The spa menu says the yoga pavilion, pool, changing and relaxation areas are open to all resort guests, a few at a time, and that the wellness area is for guests aged 18 and over; those from 3 to 17 have treatments with an adult. The Premium All-Inclusive plan includes one 45-minute massage or DIY hammam per adult for stays of 6 nights or more, and Seaplane on Us takes 20% off single treatments.
No page publishes a day pass for visitors from outside: the island is reached only by the resort's seaplane and boat transfers, and treatments are booked through the resort app, the front desk or the spa.
What are the spa's opening hours?
Neither the resort site nor the spa menu publishes them. Treatments are booked through the resort app, the front desk or the spa; the FAQ says only after check-in, though the resort site offers advance booking by e-mail. The menu asks for 4 hours' notice to cancel, or 50% is charged, and the full price for a cancellation within an hour or a no-show.
Which treatments are offered, and at what price?
According to the spa menu: The Standard Massage, with a warm sand-filled pouch, $160 for 60 minutes and $195 for 90; the Four Arms Massage with 2 therapists $265; the Deep Relaxation Massage $150; the Royal Standard Hammam $155 and the DIY Hammam $75; the Romantic Couple Escape, hammam, massage and facial, $450 a couple for 120 minutes.
Facials run from $135 to $195, body scrubs and wraps from $135, a classic manicure or pedicure $85 with O.P.I and CND products. Private yoga, sound healing or meditation is $75 per person or $105 a couple. The menu does not say whether taxes are included.
Is it good for children?
Yes. Lil' Shark Kids Club takes children from 4 to 12, from 9am to noon and 2pm to 7pm, with a paddling pool, a sandy play park, an art, film and play room, cooking classes and nature outings; younger children come with an adult or a babysitter, at $35 an hour plus taxes, booked a day or 12 hours ahead. The FAQ adds a teens' lounge and an obstacle course.
On Premium All-Inclusive 2 children under 12 stay and eat free; Booking.com charges children from 12 as adults. There is no minimum age for children, though Booking.com and Expedia set 21 for the guest who checks in. The dive centre's Bubblemaker, for ages 8 and 9, costs $190; in July 2026 a 2-year-old's highlight was the villa's own pool.
What is on the island besides the villas?
The spa and gym, a dive centre, the kids’ club and teens’ lounge, The Standard Boutique, a resident doctor and a clinic, according to the resort FAQ; Expedia adds a floodlit tennis court, and guests a library, billiards and table tennis. Wi-Fi is free everywhere.
Guests describe a host for each villa on WhatsApp, and the resort app lists the day's activities. The resort makes its water with a desalination plant and has dropped many single-use plastics, says the sustainability page; Booking.com lists Green Globe certification. Drones are banned; the on-island photographers charge.
What offers are there?
Read on 6 October 2026: Seaplane on Us, for 5 nights or more, with the return seaplane, breakfast, 20% off food, soft drinks and single spa treatments and 10 pieces of laundry, for stays from 10 September 2026 to 31 December 2027; Full Board, Full Flavor, every meal at Kula; and Premium All-Inclusive. Can you get married at The Standard, Maldives?
Yes: the resort FAQ lists weddings, vow renewals, proposals and private celebrations, from a ceremony on the beach to a proposal on Baby Island, the resort's private islet, where a chef grills dinner by a bonfire. Couples renewing their vows who stay 3 nights or more get extra perks, according to the resort site.
No page publishes prices or a maximum number of guests: the resort handles weddings through its sales team.
Is there a New Year's Eve dinner?
Yes, and it is compulsory: the official site says a gala dinner applies on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, charged to the bill after booking, without publishing its price or menu. In May 2026 a family wrote of the New Year party and fireworks.
On Google Hotels, read on 12 October 2026, the night of 31 December cost $1,245 for 2, taxes and fees included, the highest of the calendar.
Can you play golf?
No: no resort page mentions a course or a golf package. For sport there are the gym, yoga and a tennis court, and on the water kitesurfing, wakeboarding and jet skis, according to the water sports page.
When is it open, and when is the best season?
All year: on Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, 116 of the 117 nights from 7 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 were priced, and no official page mentions a closure; 28 October showed no price, which means unknown, not closed.
The resort FAQ describes intermittent showers from May to October and a drier, less humid season from November to April, at 23 to 32 °C. A Japanese guest in August 2026 had the odd squall and understood March to be the best month.
How much does a night cost?
On Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, a night for 2 adults cost $538 on 7 October 2026, $795 on 12 October, $575 on 1 November, $1,052 on 24 December, $1,245 on 31 December and $795 on 8 January 2027, taxes and fees included.
The calendar names neither the villa nor the plan; every rate includes breakfast at Kula, according to the meal plans page. For 7 October the official site's link showed $537.51, of which $138.51 was taxes and fees, and Booking.com asked the same for an Ocean Overwater Villa. The seaplane, $550 per adult, and the compulsory gala dinners of 24 and 31 December are on top.

Of 500 Google reviews with text since 2021, 92% of those on location are positive, 89% on the villas, 86% on staff and services and 78% on breakfast. Those satisfied with the price point to the all-inclusive.
Guests praise the hosts, the house reef from the villas and the variety at Kula. The seaplane and the extras come on top of the rate; the island has children and pool parties and, in 2026, works in the villas.
What taxes and charges are added?
Google Hotels prices for the Maldives include taxes and fees: for 7 October the official site's link showed $537.51, of which $138.51 was taxes and fees. Hyatt's offers say the rate excludes service charges, mandatory resort fees and taxes, the dive centre's prices include 10% service and government tax, and babysitting is $35 an hour plus taxes.
On Tripadvisor partners' prices, $539 to $549 for 11 October, carry the note «taxes not included»; the MICHELIN Guide gives rates from $500 a night, both read on 3 October 2026.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is at 3pm and check-out at 11am, according to the villa page of Hyatt’s booking site, read on 15 October 2026. Late check-out costs extra and depends on availability, according to Expedia; in September 2026 a guest was asked to leave the villa at 11am for an evening flight.
