For couples and snorkellers after a small, quiet island, Nika has coral villas with their own beach and a reef a few strokes from the shore; on 6 October 2026 Booking.com asked $369 a night on average for 4 nights from 15 December in a Garden Room with breakfast, before tax. Anyone after a newly built villa will be happier elsewhere.

  1. The villa to ask for

I would ask for a Deluxe Beach Villa: the 10 stand on the south side of the island, where the official page says the barrier reef is closer and easily reached by swimming from your own private beach.

  2. Extra bed and cot

On Booking.com an extra bed costs $160 per child per night, for a child aged 1 to 12, and a cot is free; both are paid separately and depend on the option chosen and on availability.

  3. The museum tour and garden

The Green Path tour begins at the museum and continues into the back of the resort, where the garden produces about 20 kg of salad and fresh vegetables a day.

What Nika is

Nika was one of the first islands in North Ari Atoll to become a resort: the hotel’s own listing on Tripadvisor dates tourism on Kudafolhudhoo to 1983, and the official site calls it «the Maldives that used to be»; guests describe an Italian resort run by the family that owns it. There are 44 rooms, by the villas page: 6 Garden Rooms, 10 Beach Villas, 10 Deluxe Beach Villas, 3 Family Beach Villas, 3 Family Deluxe Beach Villas and the Sultan Suite between garden and beach, 8 Water Villas and 2 Family Water Villas on the lagoon, and the Faro Studio above the coffee shop.

You come for the villa. The beach villas are built of coral blocks in the shape of a shell, thatched with palm leaves and finished by hand by the carpenters who once built dhonis; each has its own beach with a gazebo and hot tub, and from the Deluxe villas on the south side the reef is a short swim away. Guests in 2025 and 2026 describe blacktip sharks, turtles and eagle rays a few metres out, a single open-air restaurant with Italian cooking and vegetables from the island’s garden, a museum dug into an old kiln, and «Nika time», 2 hours ahead of Malé.

Nika has stayed a small island, with one restaurant, little evening entertainment and no kids’ club. The villas are the original resort’s, built of coral blocks. The private beaches mean you cannot walk round the island, and all-inclusive leaves out the minibar, the wine fridge and the excursions; extras carry service and tax of 26 or 27%. On Agoda, read on 6 October 2026, a night for 2 on 15 October ran from $324 in a Garden Room on full board to $731 in a Deluxe villa all-inclusive, before tax.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Nika Island’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write about the reef a few metres from the shore, with its turtles and blacktip sharks, the quiet of the island and the 25-minute seaplane from Malé.

  2. Room

7 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests describe large villas built of coral blocks, a private beach with a gazebo and hot tub, a bathroom with an open-air shower and housekeeping twice a day.

  3. Staff and service

  5. Price

A villa with its own private beach, and the reef: that is what guests happy with the bill mention.

The scores come from 252 Google reviews with text, left from 26 April 2016 to 9 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in North Ari Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in North Ari Atoll:

Price: for two on the night of 1 May 2027, from $375 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).

The dive centre and the house reef

Nika Diving Center is a PADI centre with multilingual instructors, courses from Bubblemaker, from age 8, to Divemaster, and dives on the atoll’s thilas and reefs, with sharks, eagle rays and mantas. For snorkelling a mask and fins are enough: the reef rings the island.

Good to know before you book

  • The return seaplane is charged separately and the site gives no price; the resort asks for flight details at least 96 hours ahead. Source: booking.com

  • Excursions are charged separately even on all-inclusive: in November 2025 the whale-shark trip cost $500 plus tax. Source: 252 Google reviews read, 26 April 2016 to 9 September 2026

  • All-inclusive does not cover everything. Guests in 2024, 2025 and 2026 write that the minibar and the villa’s wine fridge are charged, that bar drinks cannot be taken to the room and that service and tax of 26 or 27% go on top: in July 2026 a beer cost $6 and a cocktail $10 to $12.

  • You cannot walk round the island: the villas’ private beaches reach right to the water. Guests in a Garden Room, the Faro Studio or over the water share 2 beaches, one at the start of the Water Villa walkway and one in front of the coffee shop, with loungers, parasols and showers.

  • The villas are the original resort’s: the hotel’s listing on Tripadvisor dates tourism on the island to 1983. Those on the beach are built of coral blocks, thatched with palm leaves and finished by hand. Between September 2024 and November 2025, 5 Google reviews describe wear in the villas and bathrooms, with taps needing repair, and cupboard doors and a window that would not close; 2 of them concern the water villas. 2 others, in February 2024 and July 2026, mention renovated beach villas.

  • The island keeps «Nika time», 2 hours ahead of Malé, for longer evening light. Check-out is at noon and the seaplane may leave a few hours later; late check-out is charged, $100 in November 2025.

  • Children are welcome but there is no kids’ club: the site lists none. On Booking.com an extra bed costs $160 a night for a child aged 1 to 12, and a cot is free.

Questions before you go

What people ask before booking Nika Island Resort & Spa, with sources read between 3 and 6 October 2026.

What kind of resort is Nika Island Resort & Spa?

An independent 5-star resort, run by its Italian owners by guests’ accounts, on the island of Kudafolhudhoo in North Ari Atoll: the home page presents it as one of the atoll’s first islands to become a resort, and the hotel’s listing on Tripadvisor dates tourism on the island to 1983. It has 44 rooms in 9 types, by the villas page, one restaurant, 2 bars, the Lotus Spa, a dive centre and an underground museum.

The island is plastic-free: by the Green Path page its drinking-water system saves 70,000 to 150,000 plastic bottles a year.

What rooms and villas are there, and how big are they?

9 types, by the official pages. On a private beach: Beach Villa, 10, of 75 m²; Deluxe Beach Villa, 10, of 100 m²; Family Beach Villa, 3, of 130 m²; Family Deluxe Beach Villa, 3, of 130 m²; the Sultan Suite, one, of 140 m². Over the water: Water Villa, 8, of 110 m², and Family Water Villa, 2, of 110 m². In the garden: Garden Room, 6, of 35 m², and the Faro Studio above the coffee shop, whose size the site does not give.

Each villa’s own page, read on 15 October 2026, gives the Deluxe Beach Villa 100 m² and the Family Deluxe Beach Villa 130 m²; the square-foot figures in the descriptions are marked as approximate. The beach villas have a gazebo with a hot tub, a minibar, a tea and coffee maker, air conditioning and a ceiling fan; the Deluxe villas and the Sultan Suite add a wine fridge.

Where is it, and is the island quiet?

On Kudafolhudhoo in North Ari Atoll, as the contact page says, 25 minutes by seaplane from Malé. A guest in August 2025 puts it at about 300 by 400 metres; the desert island is 5 minutes away by boat and the sandbank 15.

Night lighting is kept to a minimum so as not to disturb the turtles that nest on the beaches, the site says. Guests in 2025 and 2026 confirm the calm, with little evening entertainment.

How do you get there from Malé, and what does the transfer cost?

By seaplane, 25 minutes from Malé by the home page, which adds that the landing platform is joined to the island; guests speak of about 30 minutes, and one in October 2025 of 2 hours by speedboat.

The site gives no price. Booking.com says the resort arranges the return seaplane at an extra cost and asks for flight details at least 96 hours ahead; Google Hotels lists the airport shuttle as a paid service.

Can you drive there or park?

No: Kudafolhudhoo is an island reached by seaplane or boat, with no roads for cars. Google Hotels lists parking, which is a mistake for an island; you get about barefoot on the sand, as the home page puts it.

How do you get into the sea?

From the beach villas you step onto your own beach, set up with timber parasols, loungers and an outdoor shower; from the water villas you go in from the platform at water level, the Water Villa page says. Guests in a Garden Room or the Faro Studio use the 2 shared beaches by the 2 bars.

Currents can be strong at high tide: in July 2026 a guest advised swimming at low tide, and in August 2025 another found swimming round the island hard going.

Is there a house reef you can swim to?

Yes, and it is why many choose Nika. The Deluxe Beach Villas on the south side have the reef closest, a swim from their private beach; from the Beach Villas on the north side you cross a lagoon first. In July 2026 a guest wrote that off the Deluxe villas the reef begins 15 metres out; in August 2025 another that from the main bar it takes 3 strokes.

Guests describe blacktip, whitetip and nurse sharks, turtles, eagle rays and sometimes mantas. The coral is growing back: alive and beautiful for a guest in April 2026, and in July 2026 another noticed the metal frames for regrowing it in front of reception.

Is there a pool?

The site describes no pool, but its aerial photograph of the Lotus Spa shows a rectangular pool with 2 loungers beside the pavilions on the pond, and Google Hotels lists an outdoor pool. A guest in April 2024, on the other hand, wrote that the hotel has no pool.

Every beach villa has a hot tub under its gazebo; for swimming, Nika relies on the sea and the reef.

Is the pool heated, and when is it open?

No source gives the water temperature or the hours of the spa’s pool. The villas’ hot tubs are private and there whenever their guests want them.

Where do you eat, and until when?

In a single restaurant, Marco Polo, a large open-air structure: the cooking is mostly Italian and Mediterranean, with Maldivian, Asian and Italian buffets through the week alternating with à la carte menus, vegetables from the garden and a cellar of more than 100 wines; the chefs also cater for intolerances. The bars are Acqua Alta, for cocktails and sunset drinks, and the all-day coffee shop, with a small library.

The site gives no hours, which run on Nika time. Private candlelit dinners on the villa’s beach or the desert island are arranged with the chef. Guests praise the fish, the pasta and the home-made ice cream. The site promises no dress code.

Which meal plans are there, and what does all-inclusive cover?

The restaurant offers full board, half board, soft all-inclusive and all-inclusive. By Booking.com, all-inclusive covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, non-motorised water sports, water, tea and coffee, wine, spirits, cocktails, soft drinks and juices, and excursions too.

Guests tell a different story on excursions and more: trips are charged, in August 2025 one guest spent about $1,100 and in November 2025 another $500 plus tax for the whale shark; the minibar and wine fridge are charged even on all-inclusive, and bar drinks cannot be taken to the villa. Soft all-inclusive covers soft drinks at meals and the bars, not alcohol.

What is the spa like?

The Lotus Spa floats on a lagoon of water plants and has 8 pavilions, each named after a Venetian landmark; the official aerial photograph shows timber walkways among the lilies and a rectangular pool. It offers Thai and aromatherapy massages, Ayurvedic massage and beauty treatments, from after-sun wraps to lymphatic drainage.

The site gives no floor area and mentions no sauna or steam room; Booking.com lists both among the facilities without saying where. The gym is nearby; the Blue Zone programme adds yoga, water aerobics and a 7-station meditation path.

Is the spa included, is there a fee, and can outside guests use it?

Treatments are paid for separately: no official source puts them in the rate or in all-inclusive, and guests in 2024 and 2026 quote prices plus tax and service. No page offers a day pass for anyone not staying on the island, which is reached only by seaplane or boat.

What are the spa’s opening hours?

The site gives none: the spa page asks you to book by phone, on +960 6660516 or +960 6660565, or by email. The massage pages say treatments are available all year round.

Which treatments are there, and what do they cost?

Thai and aromatherapy massages, Ayurvedic massage and a list of beauty treatments: after-sun wraps, anti-cellulite treatments with honey and Dead Sea salts, fresh-fruit facials, lymphatic drainage, eye care, men’s facials and outdoor massages. The site publishes no price list.

In September 2026 a guest found the cheapest massage at about $94 before tax, and in August 2025 a couple had an hour-long couples’ massage.

Is it good for children?

Yes, but without a kids’ club: the site lists none, and in September 2026 a guest on Tripadvisor saw plenty of children but no activities for them. For families there are the 3 Family Beach Villas, the 3 Family Deluxe and the 2 Family Water Villas, and the Sultan Suite with its annexe. Bubblemaker is from age 8, dive courses from 10, windsurfing and catamaran from 12.

On Booking.com children are welcome from age 1, a cot is free and an extra bed costs $160 a night for ages 1 to 12; up to 2 children under 2 eat free, and green tax is $12 a night from age 2, the rate set for resorts (MIRA, read on 15 October 2026). The site lists no babysitting.

What is there on the island besides the rooms?

The Marco Polo restaurant, the Acqua Alta bar and the coffee shop, the Lotus Spa, a gym, the dive centre, non-motorised and motorised water sports from kayaks to water-skiing, the underground museum, the vegetable garden, a boutique with a tailor who makes clothes to measure, and a doctor, by guests’ accounts of 2025 and 2026.

Wi-Fi in the villas is free, and data packages for the whole island can be bought at reception; in August 2025 a guest found it good everywhere except the restaurant. The garden grows about 20 kg of salad and vegetables a day, the Green Path page says.

What offers are there?

The site, read on 6 October 2026, publishes no priced offers: it points to its booking engine and contact form. For honeymooners Booking.com lists one breakfast in the villa, a bottle of sparkling wine and a cake, with a marriage certificate less than a year old.

Can you get married at Nika Island?

Yes, in a symbolic ceremony: the site’s packages start at $950 and include the decoration, a cake, a symbolic certificate, a bottle of prosecco, the master of ceremonies, a dhoni for the bride and a decorated villa. Ceremonies take place on the private beach, on a sandbank or the desert island, or underwater on the reef.

Extras include a sunset cruise, boduberu drums, photographs, make-up and a night in the Sultan Suite. The site gives no maximum number of guests; in February 2026 a German couple married on the island.

Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?

The site, read on 6 October 2026, publishes no programme or price for 31 December 2026, and its booking link leads to a page that does not exist.

A guest over the 2024 festive season, from 29 December to 5 January, describes 4 à la carte dinners in place of the buffet.

Can you play golf?

No: there is no golf course on the island and the site offers no packages. The Blue Zone programme mentions bowls.

When is it open, and when is the best season?

The activity and excursion pages say they run all year round, and the site lists no closures. On Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, there were prices for 56 of the 117 nights from 7 October 2026 to 31 January 2027; the rest showed none, which does not mean the hotel is closed. On Booking.com, read the same day, minimum stays were 3 nights until December and 5 in January, and in November the first free dates began on the 26th.

The site does not describe the seasons. In November 2025 a guest had bad weather and a day of rain on the whale shark trip.

How much does a night cost?

Prices read on 6 October 2026, for 2 adults and before tax. On Agoda, for the single night of 15 October 2026, the Garden Room cost $324 on full board and $527 all-inclusive, the Water Villa $503 on full board and the Deluxe Beach Villa $731 all-inclusive. On Booking.com, which sells stays of at least 3 nights, a night from 26 November averaged $391 in a Garden Room with breakfast and $1,005 in a Deluxe Beach Villa all-inclusive; from 15 December $369 in a Garden Room with breakfast, $602 in a Beach Villa with breakfast and $948 in a Deluxe Beach Villa all-inclusive, service included.

A single night is hard to find: Booking.com had no one-night availability on 15 October, 15 November, 15 December or 15 January, and in January offered only stays of 5 nights or more; Agoda sold one night only on 15 October and was sold out on the other dates. Booking.com’s averages exclude 17% GST and the environmental fee per person per night, as the taxes answer explains. On the official site, read on 6 October 2026, no rate can be reached: for a direct price, write to the resort through its contact form, and the Google Hotels calendar is confirmed by no seller.

What do the reviews say?

On 3 October 2026 Google showed 4.6/5 from 375 ratings, Tripadvisor 4.6/5 from 1,162, with a Travellers’ Choice 2026 award, and Booking.com 9.0/10 from 116, with 8.3 for value. Of the 252 Google reviews with text, 87% of those discussing location are positive, 75% on staff and services and 71% on the rooms.

The reef off the villa, the private beach, the quiet, the Italian cooking and the care for the environment recur. On price, guests write mostly about the extras, charged even on all-inclusive, from the minibar to the excursions, with 26 or 27% service and tax on top.

What taxes and charges are added?

On Booking.com the room rate includes the 10% service charge and excludes 17% GST and an environmental fee of $12 per person per night; Agoda shows prices before tax. On spending on the island, drinks outside the plan, excursions and the spa, guests in 2024 and 2026 write that service and tax of 26 or 27% are added. Children from age 2 pay the same green tax as adults, $12 a night (MIRA, read on 15 October 2026). For 4 nights, before GST and the environmental fee, Booking.com asked from 15 October $2,428 for a Garden Room and $4,578 for a Deluxe Beach Villa all-inclusive, from 26 November, for 3 nights, $1,173 for a Garden Room with breakfast and $3,016 for a Deluxe Beach Villa all-inclusive, and from 15 December $1,474 for a Garden Room with breakfast, $2,408 for a Beach Villa with breakfast and $3,790 for a Deluxe Beach Villa all-inclusive.

Booking.com reservations require payment by bank transfer before arrival, and the card used as guarantee must be shown at check-in.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 2pm and check-out by noon, by Booking.com, on Nika time. Late check-out is charged: in November 2025 a guest paid $100, and the meal plan ends at check-out even when the seaplane leaves later.
