For families and couples who want a big, green island and an all-inclusive that pours wine and spirits, Niva Dhigali starts at $676 a night in May 2027: the lowest price any seller showed on Google for one night, 2 adults. Anyone after quiet will be happier at another time of year than between Christmas and mid-January.

A couple walking hand in hand along the sand spit, feet in the shallow water.
  1. The villa to ask for

I would ask for a Beach Villa with Pool: 121 m² on the serene north side of the island, with a plunge pool and direct access to the beach overlooking the house reef.

  2. The weeks that cost less

In the calendar read on 12 October 2026 the lowest nights are $676 from 1 May 2027, again from 18 May to 10 June. The week of 27 December 2026 to 2 January 2027 runs from $1,405 to $1,701.

  3. On top of the rate

Add the seaplane: Booking.com gives $495 per adult aged 12 and over and $258 per child aged 2 to 11, return. The resort’s offers are in dollars, subject to government taxes and service charge.

  4. The lounge before the seaplane

Access to the Neeri Lounge at Velana airport is complimentary on the Premium All-Inclusive, a place to sit out the wait, which the resort puts at up to 3 hours before the transfer.

What Niva Dhigali is

Niva Dhigali has an island to itself in Raa Atoll, north of Malé, and opened as Dhigali Maldives in 2017: its first Google reviews date from June that year. The official factsheet counts 172 villas in 12 types, from the 70 m² Beach Bungalow to the 400 m² Two Bedroom Dhigali Suite; Tripadvisor says 180. The 132 on the sand line both sides of the island, the 40 over the water all sit on the south side, and the resort says it kept over 80% of the island’s original vegetation, with jungle trails, grey herons and flying foxes.

People come for the Premium All-Inclusive, which the website sells as the house plan: breakfast at Capers, then lunch and dinner chosen between the buffet and 3 à la carte restaurants, Battuta in the jungle, Jade and Faru, with unlimited wines, beers, cocktails and branded spirits and a minibar restocked every day. Snorkel gear, kayaks and paddleboards, the glass-bottom boat, one dolphin or sunset cruise and the PLAY Kids Club, free from 4 to 12, are all in it. Reviews come back again and again to the staff, a reef with baby sharks and turtles a few metres out, and sunsets at Haali Bar.

It pays to know how the island is laid out before you book. Rock breakwaters against erosion run in front of many beaches, and from some villas you climb over them to reach the sea; the south-side Water Villas are close to the seaplane jetty. Between Christmas and January the island is full of families, and anyone after quiet picks another time of year or the calmer north side; the 3 à la carte restaurants are booked through the app or the concierge, and villa to restaurant can be 400 or 500 metres on foot. On Google Hotels, read on 12 October 2026, a night for 2 cost from $676 in May 2027, the lowest run of 3 nights, to $1,701 on 31 December, before the transfer.

The scores come from 449 Google reviews with text, left from 28 June 2017 to 29 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Raa Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Battuta, dinner in the jungle

The restaurant guests praise most, open for dinner only, 7pm to 10pm, and booked ahead: the cooking of India, Sri Lanka, the Middle East and North Africa, along the routes of the traveller Ibn Battuta, from rogan josh to lamb tagine. The all-inclusive covers a 3-course meal.

12 treatment rooms, a reflexology room, a steam room, an outdoor pool with daybeds and a yoga and meditation pavilion, open 10am to 8pm and from age 14. Treatments are extra: the website prints no prices, saying only that service and tax are included.

Mask, snorkel and fins are part of the all-inclusive. In 2026 guests saw baby sharks, turtles, rays and moray eels a few metres from the Water Villas and along the north-side rocks; the official map marks the stretches with strong currents.

Free from 4 to 12, open daily 9am to 6pm and screen-free: crafts, treasure hunts, a splash zone and a slide. Younger children come with an adult, and babysitting covers ages 2 to 12.

Good to know before you book

  • The all-inclusive leaves out the spa, diving, motorised water sports, excursions and private dining, with supplements from $76 a person. Source: nivadhigali.com

  • Rock breakwaters against erosion run in front of much of the beach, plain to see in the resort’s own aerial photographs. From some villas you climb over them to get into the sea, as guests in 2025 and 2026 describe; there is snorkelling along the rocks, where the fish gather.

  • The south side holds the bungalows, the Water Villas and the Lagoon Villas with Pool, and also the jetty for seaplanes and speedboats: from the overwater villas you hear the planes take off, early in the morning included. The north side, with the pool villas, is the quietest.

  • This is a family island. Between Christmas and mid-January guests describe a lot of children and a largely Russian and Ukrainian crowd; anyone after quiet at the buffet, the pool and the bar will be happier at another time of year.

  • The 3 à la carte restaurants are booked through the app or the concierge. It pays to book in person, with the concierge who sits in Capers every morning: between January and September 2026, 4 Google reviews say a table took some getting, and in 2 of them the app showed the restaurants as full.

  • The island is long: villa to restaurant can be 400 or 500 metres on foot, and the buggies, which you can track in the app, are sometimes slow to come. There are no bicycles.

A honeymoon over the water

In September 2026 a honeymoon couple spent 5 days in an overwater villa, some of them rainy. The buffet struck them as small but varied, the à la carte restaurants as excellent and the spa as a highlight; when they could not get a dinner booking, the staff rang the restaurants for them.

A fortnight on the jungle paths

In September 2026, 2 German-speaking guests stayed 2 weeks on the long-stay offer, which brought an upgrade and spa treatments. They remember the walks under the palms between villa and restaurants, the pizzeria in the greenery and the Balinese and Thai massages.

The south side and the north side

In July 2026 a couple in a Deluxe Beach Bungalow found a reef full of fish, sharks and turtles, with a lot of dead coral and some regrowth on the sea defences. They warn that boats and seaplanes arrive on the south side, while the north-side villas are far quieter.

A family holiday

In January 2026 a family on an 8-day stay extended it because they were having such fun, but found the restaurant app always full, villa cleaning at random hours and walks of 400 or 500 metres to dinner. They recommend it to families with young children; for a honeymoon they would pick a smaller island.

Rocks in front of the sea

In January 2026 a couple on their eighth Maldives island spent nearly 3 weeks on Dhigali and rated it the worst for service: coffee after half an hour, seaweed trapped between the shoreline rocks and snorkelling below expectations. Only the island, green and beautiful, came out well.

Set against Emerald

In November 2025 a couple in a Beach Villa put Dhigali among the best resorts in the Maldives, praising Jade, Battuta, the cocktails and the reef. To reach the sea in front of their villa, though, they had to cross slippery rocks, and they found the wine list poor.

Questions before you go

The questions people ask before booking Niva Dhigali, answered from the sources read on 3 to 6 October 2026.

What kind of resort is Niva Dhigali Maldives?

A 5-star all-inclusive on a private island in Raa Atoll, as Google Hotels and Tripadvisor class it, sold on the website as a Premium All-Inclusive. The official factsheet lists 172 villas in 12 types; Tripadvisor says 180. The island took its first guests in 2017 as Dhigali Maldives, the name Booking.com and many guests still use.

The resort says it kept over 80% of the island’s original vegetation; the buildings are modern, white and flat-roofed. There are 4 restaurants, a café, a pizzeria and 2 bars, the LIME spa, a Euro-Divers centre with PADI 5-star status, the PLAY Kids Club and 3 pools.

What villas are there, and how big are they?

12 types, as the rooms page lists them. On the beach: the Beach Bungalow at 70 m², the Deluxe Beach Bungalow at 85 m² and the Beach Villa at 115 m², the most common with 52. With a pool, on the north side: the Beach Villa with Pool and with Garden Pool at 121 m², the Beach Suite with Pool and with Garden Pool at 170 m². Over the water, on the south side: the Water Villa at 85 m² and the Lagoon Villa with Pool at 117 m².

For families there are the Two-Bedroom Deluxe Beach Bungalow at 184 m², the Two-Bedroom Beach Villa at 262 m² and the single Two Bedroom Dhigali Suite, 400 m² with an infinity pool and a butler. The 41 villas with their own pool are the Beach Villas and Beach Suites with Pool, the Lagoon Villas and the Dhigali Suite. Every villa has a rain shower, L’Occitane toiletries and an included minibar, restocked once a day.

Where is it, and is the island quiet?

In Raa Atoll, north of Malé: the contact page gives «North Maalhosmadulu, Raa Atoll, 21012». The nearest domestic airports are Ifuru, about 27 km away, and Dharavandhoo, about 40 km, according to Tripadvisor; the neighbouring island is Heritance Aarah’s, about 3 km off by Booking.com’s measure.

How quiet depends on the side. Guests find the north side, with the pool villas, the calmest; seaplanes and speedboats arrive on the south side, where the water sports centre also is. From Christmas into January the island is full of families, and in the evening there is music at East Bar until midnight and at Haali Bar until 8pm.

How do you get there from Malé, and what does the transfer cost?

By seaplane, about 45 minutes by the website’s FAQ and 40 by Google Hotels, for flights landing in Malé between 6am and 3pm; arrivals between 3pm and 4.30pm take a domestic flight and a speedboat, about 1 hour 10 minutes in all. Resort staff meet you at the airport, and the website warns the wait can reach 3 hours. Anyone landing after 11pm must spend the night in Malé, as there are no flights after dark, Booking.com notes.

The transfer is extra: $495 an adult and $258 a child aged 2 to 11, return, tax included, by the official transfer sheet, free under 2; Booking.com gives the same figures and says they are not in the room price. The allowance is 20 kg checked and 5 kg hand luggage; each extra kilo costs $5.

Can you arrive by car, and is there parking?

No: Dhigali is an island reached only by seaplane or speedboat, and there are no cars on it. You get about on foot along sandy paths or on the resort’s buggies, whose position the app shows in real time.

How do you get into the sea?

From the beach in front of the villas or, from the Water Villas and Lagoon Villas, down the steps from the deck into the lagoon. Rock breakwaters against erosion run along much of the shore, though: from some beach villas you climb over the rocks, which are slippery, to reach the reef.

The official map marks the swimming and snorkelling areas, the stretches with strong currents and those where swimming is not allowed. A 2025 guest named the western sand spit, near Haali Bar, as the only stretch without rocks; others found natural pools between the rocks, good for children.

Is there a house reef you can swim to?

Yes. The website puts the house reef steps from the Beach Villas and a short swim from the overwater villas, and runs guided snorkelling and a 30-minute lesson. Mask, snorkel and fins are part of the all-inclusive.

In 2026 guests swam straight off their overwater villas and saw baby sharks, turtles, rays, moray eels and octopus; the snorkelling along the north-side rocks is good, and new coral is growing on them.

What are the pools like?

The website mentions 3 pools, the main one beside East Bar, where the aqua aerobics happens, and the factsheet adds a children’s pool; the PLAY club also has a splash zone. 41 villas have their own pool, and the Two Bedroom Dhigali Suite an infinity pool.

Google Hotels also lists an indoor pool and an adults-only pool, which no official page mentions, and describes 3 infinity pools with ocean views.

Are the pools heated, and when are they open?

The website does not say whether the pools are heated and prints no opening hours. Free aqua aerobics runs in the main pool several times a week, and the children’s pool hosts the club’s parties.

Where do you eat, and until when?

In 8 places, as the dining page lists them: Capers, the buffet, with breakfast 7am to 10.30am, lunch 12.30pm to 3pm and themed dinners 7pm to 10pm; Battuta, Indian and Middle Eastern cooking in the jungle, and Jade, pan-Asian, both dinner only, 7pm to 10pm; and Faru, Mediterranean on the beach, for lunch and dinner. Battuta, Jade and Faru need a booking.

Then there are the Café, 9.30am to 5pm, the pizzeria, noon to 6pm, East Bar by the pool, 10am to midnight, and Haali Bar, 11am to 8pm; private dinners are arranged on request. Guests single out Battuta and Jade, and several Italians in 2025 and 2026 praised Faru’s cooking.

Which meal plans are there, and what does the all-inclusive cover?

The website offers bed and breakfast, half board, full board and the Premium All-Inclusive. By the 2026 factsheet, the all-inclusive covers breakfast at Capers; lunch at Capers, East Bar, the pizzeria, the Café or Faru; dinner at Capers, Battuta, Jade or Faru, one restaurant a meal and 3 courses à la carte; unlimited wines, beers, cocktails and branded spirits; a minibar restocked daily; snorkel gear, kayaks and paddleboards, one glass-bottom boat trip and one dolphin or sunset cruise; the gym, group yoga and the kids’ club.

Left out are the spa, diving, motorised water sports, excursions and private dining, with supplements from $76 a person. In their reviews guests recall bars happy to mix drinks off the menu.

What is the spa like?

It is called LIME Wellbeing and sits in the jungle at the centre of the island. The official factsheet lists 12 treatment rooms, an outdoor pool with daybeds, a relaxation lounge, a yoga and meditation pavilion, a reflexology room, a steam room and a shop; the spa menu adds an infinity whirlpool. The products are Aromatherapy Associates, Obsidian for men, Cochine and Margaret Dabbs for hands and feet.

The size is not published. Google Hotels lists a sauna, which no official page mentions. In 2026 several guests counted the massages among the best moments of their stay.

Is the spa included, what does it cost, and can outside guests use it?

Treatments are extra: the all-inclusive does not cover them. The spa menu asks you to arrive 40 minutes early to use the steam room and whirlpool, which suggests they go with a treatment. A massage comes with the Romance offer, 55 minutes for the couple, Long Stay, 45 minutes, and Family Escape.

No page offers a day pass for anyone not staying on the island, which is reached only by seaplane or speedboat.

What are the spa’s opening hours?

The spa is open daily from 10am to 8pm, by the spa menu, and is for guests aged 14 and over; younger children have treatments with a parent. You book by dialling 953 from the villa, cancel 24 hours ahead and reschedule 6 hours ahead.

Which treatments are there, and at what price?

The spa menu offers Balinese, deep-tissue, oil-free Thai and warm stone massage, reflexology, a pregnancy massage, coconut, lime and ginger or coffee scrubs, body masks, facials for women and men, Margaret Dabbs hand and foot treatments and 3-, 5- and 7-day programmes, plus treatments for children aged 4 to 10 with a parent.

Treatment prices are not published; the menu says they include service and tax. Paid yoga, meditation and sound sessions cost $50 to $80 and booked group classes $10 to $30, while the morning and sunset group yoga is free.

Is it good for children?

Yes, it is a family island. The PLAY Kids Club is free for children aged 4 to 12, open daily 9am to 6pm, with staff certified by Worldwide Kids; under-4s come with an adult, and babysitting covers ages 2 to 12. There is a children’s pool, a children’s menu, the Bubblemaker dive course from age 8 and, from 11 April to 31 October 2026, the A Summer that Lingers offer lets children under 12 stay and eat free.

The overwater villas, the website warns, are designed for adults and not recommended for under-18s: families who book one sign a disclaimer. Booking.com gives free cots up to 2 and no extra beds, while the villa pages offer extra beds on request. Between Christmas and mid-January the island is full of families with children.

What else is on the island besides the villas?

By the official factsheet: a 24-hour reception, the PLAY club, the water sports centre, the Euro-Divers dive centre, a doctor, laundry, a boutique, a pickleball court, a photography studio, a gym with Life Fitness machines and Concept2 rowers, a games room with billiards and table tennis, and free Wi-Fi across the island.

Water sports include windsurfing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, banana boats, jet skis, glass kayaks and paddleboards; the excursions run from dolphin watching and big-game fishing to a sandbank picnic and a visit to Meedhoo, the local island with a 200-year-old mosque. Evenings bring live music, DJs and cinema on the beach.

Are there special offers?

The offers page, read on 6 October 2026, lists Advance Purchase, up to 45% off when booked at least 14 days ahead; the Long Stay Deal, from 8 nights, with an upgrade and a spa treatment; Romance at Niva Dhigali, from 3 nights, with a couple’s massage, a 3-course dinner, the sunset cruise and a jet-ski ride; Family Escape, up to 42% off; Diving at Niva Dhigali, 5 dives from 5 nights; and Festive Moments that Stay for the holidays.

All include the Premium All-Inclusive and apply only when booked on the website, which under Book Direct also promises more flexible cancellation. Rates, the website warns, are subject to tax and service charge.

Can you get married at Niva Dhigali?

Yes, on the beach. The wedding brochure, valid until 20 February 2027, offers 3 packages for the couple: Essential at $390, Classic at $545 and Premium at $845, service and tax included, with the set-up, a coordinator, a master of ceremonies, a certificate, the cake and Prosecco or Champagne; Classic and Premium add a 3-course beach dinner.

The brochure does not say whether the ceremony is legally binding or how many guests it can take. A couple married in April 2026 describe an intimate ceremony of about 20 minutes, with the bouquet extra; other guests renewed their vows on the island in 2026.

Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?

Yes. The 2026 festive programme sets the last sunset of the year at Haali Bar, 5pm to 7pm, on 31 December, then the gala dinner at Capers, 7.30pm to 10.30pm: a buffet with live grills, seafood, desserts, a table magician, a band and a saxophonist; the à la carte restaurants close that night. From 10.30pm to 2am the party on East Beach brings a Hungarian DJ, fire performers and fireworks at midnight.

The programme names no supplement for the gala dinner; the festive offer, for stays from 20 December to 5 January, includes the programme and the all-inclusive. The lobster barbecue on 29 December and 6 January is extra, $155 an adult and $75 a child. On 1 January there is a brunch with Prosecco at Capers.

Is there golf?

No: there is no golf course on the island and no offer includes it. For sport there are the gym, the pickleball court, beach volleyball, billiards, table tennis and the water sports.

When is it open, and when is the best season?

All year: the website publishes no closures, and the Google Hotels calendar, read on 6 October 2026, priced every night to 31 January 2027. The festive programme runs from 21 December to 1 January, with Orthodox Christmas on 6 January.

The website says mantas can be seen all year: from June to November at Kottefaru Bodu Thila, from December to May at Sola Corner, up to 10 at once at the peak, by its page on diving with mantas. A couple in September 2026 had several rainy days, and a guest in December 2021 found the sea too rough for kayaking.

How much does a night cost?

On Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, one night for 2 adults, taxes and fees included, cost $844 on 25 October 2026, $748 on 8 November, $912 on 27 November, $727 on 7 December, $1,330 on 24 December, $1,804 on 31 December, $899 on 12 January 2027 and $1,010 on 27 January.

The calendar shows the lowest seller and names neither villa nor meal plan; for 7 October the only offer was an agency’s, for the all-inclusive, at more than 5 times the next night. Seaplane or domestic flight is extra, and booking on the website at least 14 days ahead, the Advance Purchase offer promises up to 45% off.

What do the reviews say?

Google, read on 3 October 2026, gave 4.8/5 from 655 ratings, and Google Hotels on 6 October 91% five-star; Tripadvisor 4.7/5 from 1,530, with a 2026 Travellers’ Choice award, and Booking.com 9.5/10 from 214, with Wi-Fi at 8.8 and value for money at 9.1. Of the 449 Google reviews with text, 90% of those on staff are positive, 88% on the villas and 85% on the location. Some guests find the price fair for a 5-star with everything included; others consider the cost of excursions, diving and other separately charged extras.

Guests praise the staff, the food, the reef and the green island. The reviews also keep returning to the shoreline rocks, the many families with children, à la carte tables that need booking ahead, the long walks, the extras outside the all-inclusive and, on the south side, the seaplanes.

Which taxes and charges are added?

The website’s rates are in US dollars and, as every offer warns, subject to government tax and service charge; the wedding brochure gives 10% service and 17% tax. The Google Hotels calendar, for the Maldives market, shows prices with taxes and fees included. No official page mentions the green tax.

Spa, excursions, weddings and transfers are quoted with service and tax already included. The airport transfer, treatments and anything outside the all-inclusive come on top.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 2pm and check-out by noon, by Booking.com and Google Hotels. The Advance Purchase, Long Stay and Family Escape offers promise early check-in and late check-out when available, and a guest who came on the 6am seaplane in June 2026 had the villa straight away.
