Filitheyo Island Resort, 118 villas around a house reef with 7 marked entry points, the only resort in Faafu Atoll, 35 minutes by seaplane from Malé and 10 by dhoni
Filitheyo suits divers who want their days built around the water, with one night taken alone for 2 adults from $233 from mid-May 2027, the lowest any seller showed on Google. If the villa itself is the holiday, I would choose somewhere with a private pool.
Co-founder & CEOMarco Di CesareHe spent weeks comparing hotels and kept finding that the detail deciding the trip was missing from the hotel website. 10 years in marketing technology, 2 of them building with AI.About MarcoHow we write the guideLinkedIn
I would ask for a Deluxe Villa: a detached beachfront room of 67 m² with a sea view. The private sundeck has a daybed, and the partly open bathroom has an outdoor shower and bathtub.
The lower priced week
The calendar read on 12 October 2026 gives 16–22 May 2027 at $233 for each night taken alone. The dearest night taken alone is 17 February 2027, at $1,921.
The boat costs extra
Dive packages leave boat charges on top: $25 for a trip with one dive or $40 for a trip with 2 dives. Tank handling adds $1.50 per tank, payable locally under the terms effective from 10 August 2026.
Call before you swim
Before entering the sea, call reception to check the tides: the current changes during the day. The resort forbids snorkelling between exits 7 and 8, even for experienced swimmers.
What Filitheyo is
Filitheyo is the only resort in Faafu Atoll, about 118 km south of Malé, on a 21-hectare island thick with vegetation. It is run by AAA Hotels & Resorts, which also owns Medhufushi and Hondaafushi. Its 118 villas come in 4 types: 80 Superiors on the beach, built in pairs, 15 detached Deluxes, 16 Water Villas on stilts and 7 Family Villas of 112 m², according to the official 2026 fact sheet.
The reason to come is underwater. The house reef rings the island, with 7 marked entry points; the dive centre takes its boats to more than 40 sites across the atoll, and those who swim from the beach describe blacktip sharks, rays, turtles and octopus. Of the 213 Google reviews with text, 83% of those discussing the location are positive.
On land, Filitheyo is a 4-star resort. The villas have four-poster beds, a terrace with a daybed and, on the beach, a semi-open-air bathroom; none has a private pool and the 80 Superiors are built in pairs, so anyone who wants quiet between the walls takes a Deluxe or a Water Villa, which stand alone. Wi-Fi is charged on top, snorkelling gear is hired at $13 a day or $62 a week and the all-inclusive serves its drinks from 10am to midnight; the current on the east side needs to be taken seriously.

The scores come from 213 Google reviews with text, left from 14 November 2014 to 28 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay among the four-star house-reef islands: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against among the four-star house-reef islands:
Price: for two on the night of 16 May 2027, from $233 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).

On 12 October 2026, one night taken alone for 2 adults was $233 from 16 May to 31 July 2027, within a May–September range of $233–$290. For a week I would check the whole-stay quotation: 16–23 November 2026 came to $934 a night from the lowest seller Google listed that day, while those nights searched separately ranged from $479 to $934.

Filitheyo, Kuredu or Hondaafushi
Kuredu suits families wanting a large island with several restaurants, a dive centre and an all-inclusive plan. Hondaafushi is for travellers happy to continue by domestic flight to Hanimaadhoo and then speedboat.
The Main Restaurant is a vast pavilion with a sand floor: 3 buffets a day, 7.30 to 9.30am, 12.30 to 2.30pm and 7.30 to 9.30pm, with chefs at live cooking stations. The Sunset Restaurant & Bar, on the tip of the island, serves à la carte from 11am to 9.30pm, with a swim-up bar in the pool; the Main Bar, between the beach and a pond, stays open until the last guest leaves.

The house reef has 7 marked entry points, and past its edge the bottom drops into the blue: 2026 guests describe reef sharks and nurse sharks, mobula rays, turtles and octopus. The resort advises against snorkelling on the east side, between exits 6 and 8, because of strong currents, which turn unpredictable at full and new moon.

Everything you expect, outside the room
In August 2026 a couple on their second trip to the Maldives saw mobula rays, reef sharks, nurse sharks, turtles, moray eels and octopus on the house reef, free and right in front of their room. The boat excursions cost extra, and they would not book the whale shark trip again: too many boats chasing the animals.
In August 2026 a family with 3 children spent 9 days in a double beach bungalow: rooms a little dated but clean, a fixed table and waiter at the restaurant, snorkels and an underwater camera hired from the dive centre. They had feared the rainy season and had sunshine every day.
In July 2026 a couple in a semi-detached Superior heard every step and every word of their neighbours through the timber wall, and recommend a Deluxe or a water villa, which stand alone. On half board they had one free bottle of water a day, and every other cost $4.
In July 2026 a couple in an over-water villa found the best reef they had ever swum, with rays, turtles, sharks, dolphins and an octopus, and quiet evenings between 2 bars, with no entertainment. Their one complaint: there is no adults-only area, and the only pool fills with children.
In May 2026, 2 guests in life jackets were swept out to sea within minutes and brought back by other guests with a life ring. They write that there were no lifeguards and no flags, and find the villas worn; they speak warmly of the staff and the kitchen.
In October 2025 one guest ranked the villas: the Superiors on the best beach, the easiest for snorkelling, but with a thin wall; avoid the first ones by the pool, where the sea has eaten the beach. The Water Villas are quiet and face the sunset, but to see anything underwater you must swim out to the drop-off.
