Cocogiri Island Resort, 40 villas, half on the beach and half over the water, above a house reef, in Vaavu Atoll, 75 minutes by speedboat from Malé or 20 by seaplane
Cocogiri suits a quiet holiday built around the buffet, with the lowest seller on Google showing single nights from $505 in early April 2027 for 2 adults. For evenings with loud nightlife, choose a different island.
Co-founder & CEOMarco Di CesareHe spent weeks comparing hotels and kept finding that the detail deciding the trip was missing from the hotel website. 10 years in marketing technology, 2 of them building with AI.About MarcoHow we write the guideLinkedIn
I would ask for a Water Villa: 53 m², a deck with loungers and an outdoor shower reached from the deck, so you can rinse off before going indoors.
The cheaper April week
For 1–7 April 2027, single nights ranged from $505 to $595 on Google, read on 12 October 2026. The highest night shown was 18 October 2026, at $1,077.
The boat costs extra
The shared speedboat costs $220 per person return, plus 12% tax and 10% service; airport waits can reach 3 hours. The website’s direct-booking offer from 4 nights includes the return transfer.
After checkout, before departure
On departure day, all-inclusive ends at 12pm; when all rooms are booked, you can leave luggage at reception and use the common areas until your transfer.
What Cocogiri is
Cocogiri is an island in Vaavu Atoll, south of Malé, with 40 villas: 20 on the beach, of 49 m², and 20 on stilts, of 53 m², 4 of them with a jacuzzi on the deck. The official booking system and Tripadvisor rate it 4 stars; its first Google reviews date from 2021, and the nearest inhabited island, Fulidhoo, is 7 km away.
People come to Cocogiri for the reef. From the water villas a ladder drops straight into the lagoon, from the beach it is a short wade, and guests in 2026 describe blacktip and whitetip sharks, rays, eagle rays, turtles and dolphins. In the latest 500 Google reviews, from 2023 to 2026, 97% of those discussing the location are positive, and 89% of those discussing the staff.
The bill is worth reading before you book. Transfers, fast Wi-Fi, water sports and excursions all cost extra, the all-inclusive covers neither the à la carte menu nor snacks, and the shared speedboat can leave arrivals waiting hours at the airport. The cooking is Asian and international, much of it spiced: guests praise the Indian and vegetarian dishes, and the buffet also carries dishes without spice.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 18 January 2023 to 18 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay among the small four-star islands: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 7 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against among the small four-star islands:
Price: for two on the night of 5 April 2027, from $505 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).
What a night costs, season by season
Single nights for 2 adults shown on Google, read on 12 October 2026, ranged from $505 to $666 between 3 March and 10 April 2027. I would compare early April with the December dates before choosing a week: 22–28 December 2026 ranged from $661 to $1,003 a night.

Each figure is the lowest price any seller showed on Google for one night searched alone, for 2 adults; no villa or meal plan is named. Read 12 October 2026; the calendar stops at 10 April 2027. Separate highs: $1,077 on 18 October 2026 and $1,037 on 25 January 2027; 5 nights had no price. For 7 October 2026, the reading of 6 October showed $310 on the calendar and $337 on the hotel’s own listing. Booked as 7 nights from 16 November 2026, the lowest seller Google listed on 12 October asked $528 a night; the resort’s own listing, $528.
Cocogiri, NOOE or Summer Island
Consider NOOE Maldives Kunaavashi for another Vaavu island with beach villas and overwater duplexes. Choose Summer Island for a North Malé base around 45 minutes from the airport by speedboat.
Azure Lagoona is the open-air restaurant on the lagoon, with a sand floor: buffets from 7.30 to 9.30am, 12.30 to 2pm and 7.30 to 9.30pm, with live cooking stations, themed nights and a whole vegetarian counter, and an à la carte menu from 10am to 10pm. White Sands Bar & Café, beside the pool, serves food from 10am to 10pm and drinks until late.
You get in from the water villas’ ladders, from the Sunset Pavilion or after a short wade across the lagoon from the beach; the resort recommends a life jacket and bans snorkelling off the back of the island, where the boats come in. By boat, the shark and turtle trip is the one guests write about most.
Treatments in single pods, from 10am to 7pm every day, with herbal tea to finish: a 60-minute Balinese massage costs $150 and a couples’ massage $180, plus tax and service, according to the official menu.
Good to know before you book
Water sports and excursions cost extra: the 2025 price list asks $15 for half an hour in a kayak and $103 for 15 minutes on a jet ski. Source: cocogiri.com

Transfers are compulsory and booked through the resort. The shared speedboat, $220 a person return plus tax and service, leaves once the other guests have landed too, with waits of up to 3 hours by the website’s account. The seaplane costs $492 a person and must be booked at least 3 days ahead.
The all-inclusive gives the 3 buffets and house drinks served one glass at a time, at meals or at the bar from 10am to 11pm. The à la carte menu, snacks, room service and the minibar are not included, and the plan ends at noon on the day you leave.
Basic Wi-Fi is free in every villa and a fast router costs extra: in 2025 a guest quotes $30 to $45 a week. Between October 2025 and September 2026, 4 Google reviews describe the Wi-Fi as slow or absent, and 2 as fast.
The water villas’ decks have no rail all the way round, and the resort itself notes that the ladder’s steps are partly submerged and slippery: with small children the beach villas are the better fit.
Rates carry 17% Tourism Goods and Services Tax and a Green Tax of $12 a person a night, children under 2 exempt, the rates set for resorts since 2025 (MIRA GST, MIRA Green Tax, read on 15 October 2026), and a 10% service charge, according to the website’s terms; anyone on the island on 24 or 31 December pays for the gala dinners, $150 an adult and $75 a child.
Between October 2022 and November 2025, 6 Google reviews report cockroaches in the villas.
Between January 2025 and September 2026, 3 Google reviews describe rainwater coming into the villa.

On 6 October 2026 Google showed 4.8/5 from 908 ratings, 91% of them 5 stars. The figures by theme come from the latest 500 reviews, from January 2023 to September 2026, in many languages. They are accounts of stays we have not verified.

Google
Snorkelling 10 metres from the villa
In July 2026 one guest swam the reef 4 or 5 times a day, 10 metres from the villa, and found different fish and colours every time. The guest tried scuba diving for the first time with the resort’s centre and felt safe, and remembers the buffet’s Maldivian, Indian and Sri Lankan dishes.
In March 2026 a guest spent just over 2 weeks in a water villa: a bath looking out to the reef, an outdoor shower, fast free internet and 5 steps down to the reef. Bring reef shoes and a full-face mask, this guest advises; turtles passed at dawn, then nurse sharks and dolphins.
At the end of March 2026 a guest who chose Cocogiri for its reef found moray eels, blacktip and whitetip sharks, stingrays, eagle rays and dolphins, with the coral recovering in places and dead in others. She recommends reef shoes for the lagoon and warns that the currents change during the day.
In June 2026 a guest in a water villa saw sharks, turtles and countless fish straight from the deck. The review thanks reception, the bar, housekeeping and the water sports team, and recommends the island to couples and families alike.
In April 2026 a guest loved everything, from the room to the excursions, but waited 6 hours at the airport on arrival and 6 more on departure, because the resort fills each boat with as many guests as it can.
In September 2026 an all-inclusive guest had water coming into the room on the first rainy night and power surges almost every evening, found the food very spicy, no snacks between lunch and dinner and the Wi-Fi close to unusable. The cleaning, though, was exceptional, and the massages excellent.
The answers come from the official website, Google, Tripadvisor and guests’ reviews, read between 3 and 7 October 2026.
What kind of resort is Cocogiri?
A small 4-star resort, as the official booking system and Tripadvisor rate it, on an island in Vaavu Atoll: 40 villas, 20 on the beach and 20 over the water, according to its villas page. The official pages say neither when it opened nor who owns it; its first Google reviews date from 2021.
The resort presents itself as a 4-star boutique island, and that is the category to read its prices and services against. A great many reviews thank the person who runs it by name.
All have a king bed, air conditioning, a bathtub, indoor and outdoor showers, a kettle, a safe, a minibar at extra cost and free Wi-Fi, with UK 3-pin sockets. They sleep 2 adults and a child or 3 adults, with an extra bed; the FAQ also says 2 adults and 2 children. One page of the website describes a Garden Pool Water Villa that is not among the villas you can book.
Guests have advice on choosing: in April 2026 one recommends beach villas 102 to 105 on the sunrise side and 106 and 107 on the sunset side, and notes that 114, 115 and 116 have no beach in front; over the water she prefers 215 to 220, because the others get a stronger current and the arriving seaplanes. Another, in 2025, points to 201 to 205 for the coral closest to the ladder.
Where is Cocogiri, and is the island quiet?
In Vaavu Atoll, south of Malé. The nearest inhabited island is Fulidhoo, 7 km and 10 minutes away by speedboat, and the nearest resort is on Kunaavashi, 2 km away, according to the official fact sheet. Boats use the back of the island, and snorkelling is not allowed there.
It is a quiet island: the resort’s FAQ says there is no loud nightlife, and on some evenings a local acoustic band plays at White Sands. Anyone who wants music and bars in the evening will be happier elsewhere; in the 2025 and 2026 reviews there are guests who chose the island precisely for its silence.
How do you get there from Malé, and what does the transfer cost?
Only on the resort’s own transfers, which are compulsory and run in daylight only. According to the website’s terms, the shared speedboat takes 75 minutes and costs $220 a person return; the seaplane, run by another company, takes 20 minutes and costs $492 a person, with up to 2 stops. Both carry 12% tax and a 10% service charge on top.
The shared speedboat can mean a wait of up to 3 hours at the airport, says the FAQ, which also offers a private speedboat at extra cost, booked 48 hours ahead; the seaplane is booked at least 3 days ahead, with 20 kg of luggage and 5 kg of hand baggage. The resort’s fact sheet gives 70 minutes by speedboat and 30 by seaplane. The 4-night offer booked on the website includes the speedboat.
Can you arrive by car or park?
No. Cocogiri is an island reached only by speedboat or seaplane from Velana airport, on the compulsory transfers set out in the website’s terms: there are no roads and no car park on the island.
How do you get into the sea?
From the beach villas you step straight onto the sand; from the water villas a private ladder drops into the lagoon, its steps partly submerged and slippery, the FAQ warns. The reef can also be reached from the Sunset Pavilion or after a short wade across the lagoon from the beach; swimming is not allowed off the back of the island or in the boat channel.
From the beach: in July 2026 a guest wrote that you can swim in front of any villa with almost no coral, and several guests between 2022 and 2026 recommend reef shoes for the lagoon and the reef. Each beach villa has 2 loungers to set wherever you like on the sand.
Is there a house reef you can swim to?
Yes. The house reef, with turtles, moray eels and coral according to the diving page, is reached from the water villas’ ladders, from the Sunset Pavilion or after a short wade across the lagoon from the beach; a guest in July 2026 put its edge about 100 metres from the shore. Guests in 2026 describe blacktip and whitetip sharks, rays, eagle rays, octopus and dolphins.
The resort recommends a life jacket, hired from the dive centre, and unguided snorkelling only for strong swimmers, because tides and currents shift during the day; guided snorkelling runs by day and by night. In April 2026 a guest found the coral recovering in places and dead in others.
What is the pool like?
One shared pool, beside White Sands Bar & Café and a few steps from the lagoon, with steps down into the water, a separate children’s pool, loungers and shaded seating, according to the pool page; it is 15 metres long, a guest on Tripadvisor writes.
No villa has a true private pool: over the water, 4 villas have a jacuzzi on the deck, 2 of 3.5 m² and 2 of 9 m².
Is the pool heated, and when is it open?
The website gives neither the pool’s temperature nor its hours; a guest in July 2025 found it open from 8am to 8pm. The villa jacuzzis run at a temperature set by the resort, which cannot be adjusted in the villa, several guests wrote between 2022 and 2025.
Where do you eat, and until when?
In 2 places, according to the FAQ, neither of them underwater. Azure Lagoona, open-air on the lagoon with a sand floor, serves its buffet at breakfast from 7.30 to 9.30am, at lunch from 12.30 to 2pm and at dinner from 7.30 to 9.30pm, with live cooking stations, themed nights, a whole vegetarian counter and dishes without spice, and an à la carte menu from 10am to 10pm. White Sands Bar & Café, beside the pool, serves food from 10am to 10pm and drinks until late.
In-villa dining runs from 10am to 10pm. The private dinners are a candlelit dinner on the beach and one at the Sunset Pavilion, above the lagoon, with 4 courses: $180 to $220 a couple on the beach and $240 to $280 at the pavilion, according to the menu, chosen 24 hours ahead. Guests praise the Indian and vegetarian dishes; the cooking is spiced, and the buffet also carries dishes without spice.
Which meal plans are there, and what does the all-inclusive cover?
4: bed and breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive. Half board gives breakfast and dinner at the Azure Lagoona buffet, full board adds lunch, with water at meals, and every villa gets 2.5 litres of water a day, according to the FAQ. The all-inclusive adds house vodka, gin, brandy, rum and whisky, house beer, house red, white and rosé, 8 cocktails, 6 mocktails, soft drinks, cartons of juice, coffee, espresso, cappuccino and bottled water, served one glass at a time, at meals or at White Sands from 10am to 11pm.
The à la carte menu, snacks, room service and the minibar are not included, and the plan ends at noon on the day you leave. For the night of 7 October 2026, on Google Hotels, the official website asked $337 for a Beach Villa with breakfast, $376 half board, $414 full board and $529 all-inclusive, and $676 to $867 for a Pool Jacuzzi Water Villa. So an all-inclusive guest who wants a snack between lunch and dinner orders it as an extra.
What is the spa like?
Ameera Spa is built as single treatment pods, according to the official fact sheet: massages, facials, scrubs, wraps, waxing, manicures and pedicures, each session ending with herbal tea. The website gives no floor area and lists no sauna, steam room, jacuzzi or wet area.
Guests in 2025 and 2026 who mention it praise the therapists and the atmosphere.
Is the spa included, is there a fee, and can outside guests use it?
Treatments are paid for separately, as the FAQ says, and no meal plan includes them; the menu prices are plus tax and service. The resort publishes no spa day pass for anyone not staying on the island, which is reached only on its own transfers.
What are the spa’s hours?
From 10am to 7pm every day, according to the spa menu; book at the spa or through reception. The gym is open 24 hours a day and the pool, according to a guest in 2025, from 8am to 8pm.
Which treatments are offered, and at what prices?
From the menu, prices plus tax and service: a Balinese massage at $150 for 60 minutes and $180 for 90, hot stones at $160 for 60 minutes, a Thai yoga massage at $120, a couples’ massage at $180 for 60 minutes and $200 for 90, and a back or head, neck and shoulder massage at $70 for 30 minutes.
Scrubs and wraps, with coffee and orange, honey or salt, cost $100 for 45 minutes, facials $80 for 60 minutes and waxing from $20.
Is it good for children?
Yes: the resort welcomes families and is not adults-only. The Coco Kids Club, next to reception, is an air-conditioned room of toys, games and books, open at any time; the website gives no age range and mentions no staff. There is a children’s pool beside the main one, babysitting on request, and the dive centre’s Bubblemaker, for ages 8 to 10, costs $78 according to its 2025 price list.
A villa sleeps 2 adults and 2 children, with a cot requested when you book. The water villas’ decks have no rail all the way round, so the beach villas suit small children better; a family with a small child found everything they needed in 2025.
What is there on the island besides the villas?
The spa, the pool with its children’s pool, an air-conditioned gym open day and night, a games lounge with snooker, darts, air hockey, table football and table tennis, a small library at reception, the shop from 8am to 10pm, a first-aid clinic and, 7 minutes away by boat, the doctor on Fulidhoo.
The dive centre is a 5-star PADI school. Water sports run from jet skis, $103 for 15 minutes, to kayaks, $15 for half an hour, with paddleboards, sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing and flyboarding; in April 2025 a guest wrote that kayaks, pedalos and paddleboards were included, while the 2025 price list charges for them. The excursions go snorkelling with sharks and turtles, to Fulidhoo, to a sandbank, out at sunset and night fishing.
What offers are there?
Read on 6 October 2026 on the official website: book direct for at least 4 nights and get 25% off the room rate with the shared return speedboat included. Birthday, honeymoon and anniversary packages bring a cake, champagne, fruit and a decorated room, with no published prices.
The same page warns that anyone staying on 24 or 31 December pays for the compulsory gala dinners.
Can you get married at Cocogiri?
In a symbolic ceremony on the beach, officiated by the resort’s manager, according to the weddings page: the Ocean Bliss and Eternal Love packages include flowers, photographs and a sunset toast, and a proposal package brings a candlelit dinner, a photographer, champagne and a cake. The website publishes no prices and says nothing of legal validity.
For events and corporate retreats the resort offers its 40 villas; in 2025 a couple marked their 40th wedding anniversary with a cake made by the resort.
Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?
Yes. The special occasions page announces a Christmas Eve gala dinner, with Santa arriving on a jet ski, and a grand New Year celebration by the sea; according to the offers page, anyone on the island on 24 or 31 December pays for both gala dinners, $150 an adult and $75 a child.
From 20 December to 12 January a booking is paid in full on confirmation, according to the website’s terms. On Google Hotels 30 December cost $1,003 and 31 December $760, against $578 for almost every other night in December.
Can you play golf?
No: the official pages mention no golf, either on the island or among the excursions, which are snorkelling, fishing, dolphins, sunset cruises and visits to Fulidhoo.
When is it open, and what is the best season?
All year, as far as the website says, which announces no closures. On Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, 113 of the 117 nights from 7 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 had a price; 8, 22 and 23 October and 2 January did not, which does not mean the resort was closed.
The official fact sheet, on its Fulidhoo page, gives December to April as the high season and the best time for swimming and excursions; whale shark and manta trips depend on the time of year, the FAQ warns.
How much does a night cost?
On Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, for 2 adults and one night, taxes and fees included: $310 on 7 October 2026, $307 on 26 October (an isolated low), $578 on 10 November, $578 on 11 December, $745 on 24 December, $1,003 on 30 December, $760 on 31 December, $630 on 12 January 2027 and $859 on 18 January 2027.
Of the 117 nights read, 113 had a price, including an isolated low of $307 and a high of $2,014; the calendar shows the lowest seller and names neither the villa nor the meal plan. On 16 and 19 October it jumps to $2,014, against $328 on 17 and 20 October, and from November to 22 December almost every night costs $578. For 7 October the official website asked $337 for a Beach Villa with breakfast. Transfers are extra.
What do the reviews say?
On 6 October 2026 Google showed 4.8/5 from 908 ratings, 91% of them 5 stars, and Trip.com 4.8/5 from 42; on 3 October Tripadvisor gave 4.8/5 from 822, with a Travellers’ Choice award for 2026, and 4.9 for location, rooms, cleanliness and service.
In the latest 500 Google reviews, 97% of those discussing the location are positive, 94% of those discussing the villas and 89% of those discussing the staff. The reef, the cleanliness and a management that is always about come up again and again. Guests mention long, costly transfers and separate charges for fast Wi-Fi, water beyond the daily 2.5 litres and water sports. The wait for the shared speedboat and the spiced cooking also recur in the reviews.
Which taxes and charges are added?
Rates carry a 10% service charge, according to the website’s terms, plus 17% Tourism Goods and Services Tax, transfers included, and a Green Tax of $12 a person a night, children under 2 exempt, the rates set for resorts since 2025 (MIRA GST, MIRA Green Tax, read on 15 October 2026). The dive and water sports price lists already include the 10% and the tax, at 16%, the rate before July 2025, and Google Hotels prices for the Maldives include taxes and fees.
20% is paid on confirmation, non-refundable, and the rest on arrival; a no-show pays in full. Guests report other charges: in November 2025, $3 to refill a bottle beyond the day’s 2.5 litres of water; in April 2025, $20 a night to hire a torch.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in at 2pm and check-out at noon, according to the FAQ and the website’s terms; early arrival and late departure depend on availability, and the latter may be charged.
