Angsana Velavaru, 113 villas on the beach and over the lagoon, 12 of the 14 types with their own pool, in Dhaalu Atoll, a 40-minute seaplane flight from Malé
For families who want the kids’ club close by, Velavaru starts at $416 for 2 adults, the lowest seller’s Google price for one night taken alone. The offshore InOcean villas suit you less if you want to walk between your room and the island’s facilities.

I would ask for the Deluxe Beachfront Pool Villa for a stay on the island: 207 m², a private plunge pool and a garden sala, with the beach reached directly from the villa.
December before the holidays
On 12 October 2026, one night taken alone cost $416 throughout 7–13 December; 31 December cost $3,122. For 7 nights booked together from 16 November, the lowest seller Google listed asked $621 a night.
Allow for the seaplane
Add the compulsory return seaplane: $580 per adult aged 12 or above until 31 December 2026, and $365 per child aged 2–11; infants under 2 travel free under the published transfer terms.
Minibar and resort credit
The minibar’s spirits, wine and beer cost extra; soft drinks and snacks are replenished daily. All-Inclusive Premium’s spa and recreation credit is capped at $750 per paying guest per stay, for selected activities and body massages; children staying free are excluded.
What Velavaru is
Velavaru, known in Dhivehi as Turtle Island, lies in Dhaalu Atoll, 144 km from Malé’s airport. The resort belongs to Banyan Group’s Angsana brand and has 113 villas in 2 parts: on the island, low thatched houses with gardens, from 88 to 473 m²; out in the lagoon, the 2-storey InOcean villas, from 175 to 287 m², each with an infinity pool and a rooftop terrace.
The sea is the reason to come. The PADI dive centre reaches more than 30 sites in the atoll, the whale shark point among them, and guests who swim from the beach or the InOcean reef platforms report turtles, blacktip sharks, rays and octopus. Of the latest 500 Google reviews, 90% of those discussing the location are positive, and 87% of those discussing the staff.
The bill is worth reading before booking: the seaplane and the Green Tax are extra, and of the 2 all-inclusive plans only Premium covers premium drinks, Funa and one massage a stay. Guests in the InOcean villas plan the day around the ferry, 17 crossings each way from 7am to 11pm.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 17 November 2022 to 3 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Dhaalu Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 7 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
Price: for two on the night of 1 December 2026, from $416 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).
What a night costs, season by season
One night taken alone cost $416 in December 2026, while 31 December reached $3,122 in the Google reading of 12 October 2026. I would compare whole-stay offers before choosing dates: for 7 nights from 16 November, the lowest seller listed $621 a night.

Velavaru, Vilu Reef or Niyama
Sun Siyam Vilu Reef is another Dhaalu island for a beach-and-water-villa holiday with a house reef off the beach. Niyama suits a trip divided between 2 islands and an underwater restaurant.
Kaani is the main restaurant, with a sand floor and a themed buffet every night; Kuredhi is the pool bar, with live music and DJs in the evening; Funa cooks Korean, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese dishes at sunset; Mediterranean Azzurro sits on the lagoon by the InOcean villas. Breakfast runs from 7.30 to 10.30am, dinner from 7 to 9.30pm.
Angsana Spa has 8 open-air pavilions among the palms, jasmine and frangipani in its oils, and 30 minutes of rest with herbal tea after every treatment. The 60-minute Angsana massage costs $180, service and tax included; there are also singing-bowl sessions, yoga on the beach and a gym.
Daily guided snorkelling on the house reef is free with the website’s offers, and gear is lent to anyone who passes the swimming test. From the InOcean villas you reach the sea from the pool and the reef platforms; from the island the resort sends a boat to the reef, although several guests in 2025 and 2026 swam there themselves.
Good to know before you book
In the evening Kuredhi, the pool bar, has live music, DJs and karaoke until 11pm: families with small children should ask for a villa away from the bar. Source: angsana.com
The InOcean villas sit out in the lagoon, with their own reception and Azzurro: for the island, the main restaurant, the spa or the kids’ club you take the ferry, 17 crossings a day each way from 7am to 11pm, 30 to 90 minutes apart. Anyone who wants to move between villa, restaurants and spa without watching a timetable will be happier in a villa on the island.
The seaplane is compulsory and extra: $580 per adult and $365 per child return until 31 December 2026, $590 and $375 in 2027, free under 2. It flies from 6am to 3.30pm, so anyone landing in Malé after 3pm spends the night there. For 5 nights or more, booked on the website from 10 August, it is free for 2 until 20 December 2026.
The 2 all-inclusive plans differ. Dine covers meals, afternoon tea, standard drinks by the glass from 11am to 11pm, the minibar and the kids’ club; Premium adds premium drinks, Funa, Azzurro for island guests, a 60-minute massage per stay and a daily in-villa meal in the InOcean villas. Minibar soft drinks and snacks are replenished daily; spirits, wine and beer cost extra.
Only the 2 Beachfront Villa types lack a private pool. The others have one; between January 2025 and April 2026, 4 Google reviews describe villas with little shelter from view and 7 find them private, so anyone who minds about seclusion should ask when choosing a villa.
The website’s rates carry 27.6% in service charge and tourism tax, plus a Green Tax of $12 per person per night, paid on the island. Google Hotels’ calendar shows Maldives prices with taxes and fees included.
Between February 2024 and August 2026, 10 Google reviews describe villas and furnishings that have some years on them, on the beach and in the InOcean alike. The official pages give no date for the villas’ last renovation.

Angsana Velavaru reviews
The platforms’ scores, read on 3 and 6 October 2026, and what guests say about the reef, the villas and the bill.
On 6 October 2026 Google showed 4.7/5 from 983 ratings, 84% of them 5 stars. The figures by topic come from the latest 500 reviews with text, from November 2022 to October 2026, in many languages. They are accounts of stays we have not checked.

The reef below the villa
In March 2026 a couple in a water villa stepped into the sea from their room and found the reef straight below, a turtle included; the pool was large, and the second-floor deck was for stargazing.
In March 2026 an Italian guest in a beach villa found the reef close by, a short swim away. The largely Asian food was not to his taste, the excursions were few and dear, and free guided snorkelling ran only at 11am.
In November 2025 a couple split their stay between the resort’s 2 halves and snorkelled on their own every day: sharks, turtles, rays, an octopus and a moray. They recommend a villa with a pool; the beach villa had a small, romantic garden.
Over New Year 2026 a family with 2 children in the Beachfront Family Pool Villa found it far smaller than the 192 m² advertised, with the toilet and shower open onto the pool courtyard: using them meant clearing everyone out of the water.
In December 2025, 2 couples on all-inclusive found 4 cans in the fridge on arrival and wine only at extra cost, and judged the value far short of what they had paid.
In January 2025, on their tenth trip to the Maldives, a couple in a Deluxe InOcean villa loved the villa, the food and the reef, but found the ferry to the island a timetabled bus, and could see every pool around them from their own.
