For families and couples who snorkel every day straight from the villa, Machchafushi starts at $343 for one night, 2 adults, from 25 November 2026: the lowest price any seller showed on Google. A flight landing in Malé after 3pm means a night in town first, because the seaplane flies only in daylight.

I would ask for the Family Overwater Villa with a Kids’ Bedroom if you bring young children: 93 m², a child-friendly sundeck, a jacuzzi, bunk beds and PlayStation. A guest on a second stay, writing in March 2025, recommends it for families with young kids.
The week to consider
Consider 29 November to 5 December 2026: single nights for 2 adults ranged from $343 to $373 on Google, read 12 October 2026. The dearest night shown, 4 January 2027, was $1,007.
What comes on top
Room rates, extra beds and meals carry GST, the goods and services tax, plus a Green Tax of $12 per person per night, children and infants included. Each extra kilo of luggage on the seaplane costs $5 plus 17% GST.
The banyan at SPA Cenvaree
The resort describes a sacred thread ceremony under the banyan at SPA Cenvaree, where you tie a golden leaf carrying a wish; it says you may return to the tree on future visits.
What Machchafushi is
Machchafushi took its first guests in 1992, passed to Centara Hotels & Resorts in 2009 and in January 2025 went back to its own name within The Centara Collection; many guests, Booking.com and its Google listing still call it Centara Grand. Its 112 villas come in 7 types, from 86 to 159 m²: 62 on stilts over the lagoon and 50 on the beach, according to the official 2025 fact sheet.
The reason to come is the house reef, which the resort puts at 5 times the size of the island, and the wreck of the Kudhi Maa, a 52-metre cargo ship sunk off the island. In the latest 500 Google reviews with text, from December 2025 to October 2026, 95% of those who mention the location praise it, and guests describe turtles almost daily and nurse and blacktip reef sharks a few metres from the shore.
What the rate leaves out has to be added to the bill: the shared seaplane, with a wait in Malé of sometimes 2 or 3 hours, excursions at $250 a head plus tax, and the ice cream and bar food that sit outside the all-inclusive. Anyone who wants one closed price from airport to villa should add it all up before booking; anyone who puts the reef first has it here, below the deck.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 8 December 2025 to 3 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in South Ari Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 7 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in South Ari Atoll:
Price: for two on the night of 26 November 2026, from $343 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).

What to expect
The reef beneath the villas, 3 restaurants over the water and in the garden, the spa under the banyan and the kids’ club.
The reef drops from a shallow lagoon to 60 metres, and close by lies the Kudhi Maa, a 52-metre cargo ship between 12 and 30 metres down. Masks, fins and snorkels are free from the dive centre desk; every villa has life jackets and the boat channels are marked, a September 2026 guest writes.
Reef serves the buffets, with live cooking and teppanyaki; Mare Azzurro, over the lagoon by the arrival pavilion, does Italian food and seafood from 7pm to 10pm; Suan Bua, Thai, above the lotus pond, keeps the same hours. Both à la carte restaurants need booking, best a couple of days ahead.
Couples’ suites, a steam room, hot and cold plunge pools, Vichy treatments and foot massage, beside the beach and the gym, where yoga is held. In the spa garden stands a banyan more than 200 years old, where guests tie a golden leaf with a wish.
The kids’ club runs from 10am to noon and from 2pm to 6pm, with outdoor games, painting and crafts; above Coral Bar the E-Zone, from age 9, has pool tables, table football, air hockey and PlayStation from 10am to 11pm. 2 children under 12 stay free in existing beds.
Good to know before you book
Excursions are charged separately: guests write of trips at $250 plus tax. Source: 500 Google reviews read, 8 December 2025 to 3 October 2026
The seaplane is shared, run by Trans Maldivian Airways and not included in the rate: Booking.com gives $500 per adult and $250 per child. It flies only in daylight, so anyone landing in Malé after 3pm stays the night in town; between December 2025 and September 2026, 3 Google reviews describe waits of 2 to 4 hours at the airport before boarding.
Grand All-Inclusive covers the 3 restaurants, premium drinks from 11am to 11pm, the night-time in-villa menu and a minibar restocked daily. Food served at the bars sits outside the package and is charged separately.
The Club, with its pool, à la carte breakfast, afternoon tea and evening drinks, is for guests in the Club Sunset Overwater Pool Villas and the Club Two Bedroom Beach Pool Villas only; the other villas have no access.
The official site says the kids’ club welcomes all ages, from 10am to noon and from 2pm to 6pm. Older children have the E-Zone, from age 9.
The website’s rates are quoted «++»: 10% service and GST, which the official site gives as 17%, come on top, plus a Green Tax of $12 per person per night, which children staying free also pay.
Between May 2025 and September 2026, 8 Google reviews say the resort shows its age, in the villas or the shared areas: the chairs in the buffet restaurant, the games room above Coral Bar, the curtains and the safe in one water villa. 4 of them add that everything is clean and well kept. The resort opened in 1992; its official pages do not give the year of the last refurbishment.

The platforms’ scores, read on 3 and 6 October 2026, and what guests say about the reef, the bill and the seaplane.
On 6 October 2026 Google Hotels showed 4.8/5 from 2,248 ratings, 91% of them 5 stars. The figures by theme come from the latest 500 reviews with text, from December 2025 to October 2026, in many languages. They are accounts of stays we have not verified.

Google
11 nights in the simplest villa
Over late August and early September 2026 a guest on full board spent 11 nights in a Duplex Beach Villa, the entry category, and would choose it again: 2 floors, an outdoor shower, the reef wall 2 or 3 minutes’ swim away. Turtles almost every day; the whale shark and manta trip, $250 plus 17% a head, found 3 mantas.
In August 2026 a family with a coeliac daughter describe a careful kitchen that brought dishes straight from the kitchen whenever the buffet was a risk. From the water villa they watched sharks swim past; one of the children, 15, called the reef «free TV».
In August 2026 a family on their sixth Maldives resort took Grand All-Inclusive in a water villa with Club benefits: a minibar restocked every evening, 4 items of laundry, room service after 11pm and one floating breakfast. Evenings ran to bingo, karaoke and a singer at Coral Bar.
In September 2026 a couple in a water villa found curtains off their tracks, 2 safes with flat batteries and, without all-inclusive, an empty minibar. The buffet was plentiful but uneven, the house wines weak; the spa, by contrast, was fully 5-star.
In January 2026 a guest flying in from Dubai waited nearly 3 hours in a bare lounge in Malé, paid for luggage over 20 kg and, leaving, was out of the villa at 9.15am for a 10.15am flight that left at 11. Of the rest, restaurants and spa included, nothing but praise.
In March 2026 a guest praised the reef, the dive centre and the free non-motorised water sports, but had to ask repeatedly for drinks at meals, paid for bar food and a $9 ice cream, and found the Thai restaurant’s service slow. The verdict: a good 4-star.

Check-in from 3pm and check-out by noon, according to the villa pages and Booking.com; cancellations need at least 24 hours’ notice before arrival. Booking on the official site can bring early check-in or late check-out, subject to availability.
The return seaplane time is shared the evening before, through the resort’s app; with an early-afternoon flight you may have to leave the villa by 9am, a January 2026 guest writes.
