The white beach and the row of water villas over the reef, palms beyond
  1. A Water Villa again

For 2, I would consider the 66 m² Water Villa: 2 returning guests describe water villas, one praising the ocean’s sound and peaceful atmosphere, the other securing the same villa as before.

  2. The May price window

Google read on 12 October 2026 showed 10–14 May 2027 at $884 for one night taken alone; the dearest night shown, 6 February 2027, was $2,673. I would compare a whole-stay quote before choosing the dates.

  3. An extra bed costs

For a child aged 7–12, Booking.com lists an extra bed at $220 per child per night, on request and subject to availability. Room limits apply, so include the child when asking for the quote.

  4. Ask for wine advice

Let the sommeliers help choose the wine at lunch and dinner: 3 reviewers, writing between September 2023 and June 2026, praise their advice or knowledge. One says there is no need to study the list.

What Moofushi is

There has been a resort on Moofushi since 1990, when it was called Moofushi Island Resort (Ministry of Tourism register); in November 2010 it reopened as Constance Moofushi after a renovation (Trip.com), and in March 2021 Studio MHNA redid its furniture and decoration (Connoisseur Circle). It belongs to Constance Hotels & Resorts, the Mauritius-based group that also runs Halaveli in the Maldives (fact sheet). The island covers 6.3 hectares and takes 19 minutes to walk round, measured on OpenStreetMap.

All the counts come to 110 villas, but the June 2026 fact sheet splits them into 24 Beach Villas of 57 m², 17 Sand Villas and 39 Water Villas of 66, and 8 Senior Sand Villas and 22 Senior Water Villas of 94 (fact sheet), while the site’s FAQ counts 30 Senior Water Villas and no Senior Sand (official site). None has a private pool; the Senior villas have an outdoor bathtub (villas).

Meals are at Manta, the buffet with a sand floor and a different theme each day, and at Alizée, the à la carte beach grill, for dinner only; the Totem Bar serves lunch and afternoon tea, and the Manta Bar stays open until 12.30am with a DJ (fact sheet). The cellar, says the fact sheet, holds more than 15,000 bottles, with 125 labels included in the plan; the Manta page says 12,000 (Manta).

The resort scores 4.9 out of 5 on Google from 778 reviews, 4.9 on Tripadvisor from 4,647 and 9.9 out of 10 on Booking.com from 283, read on 5 October 2026 (Google Hotels, Tripadvisor, Booking.com).

In the Lumina Guide

Lumina Guide 2027

Constance Moofushi is a small all-inclusive island in South Ari Atoll: 110 villas on the beach and over the water, the reef a few metres offshore and mantas from January to May.

How we choose the hotels

Those who come back

Among the hotel’s regulars, a guest writing in June 2025 says securing the same Water Villa brought a feeling of coming home. Another, writing in June 2026, had returned from a third holiday and already booked a fourth. A guest writing in September 2026 says the stays have grown longer each year.

  • 14 of the 420 reviews with text describe a return stay
  • From a second stay to a fourth stay
  • One guest describes a 7-year gap between holidays

Only passages that explicitly describe repeated accommodation or holidays at this hotel are counted.

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  1. Location

South Ari: a 25 or 35-minute seaplane, 32 dive sites within half an hour, mantas in winter.

  2. Character

A barefoot island with sand floors, run by Constance since 2010.

  3. Rooms

57 to 94 m², no pools; an outdoor bathtub in the Senior villas only.

  4. Food and social life

Themed buffets, one or more Alizée dinners by length of stay, 125 wines included.

  5. Wellness

An overwater spa with 8 treatment rooms, 9am to 9pm; treatments are paid.

  6. The stay as a whole

$929 to $1,761 a night for 2 on Google, on an all-inclusive plan; the seaplane is extra.

What makes it rare

A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.

  • Reef at the door

Here: the reef is a few metres off the beach: rays, lionfish and moray eels, with visibility of 20 to 25 metres.

174 of the 184 guests who write about the reef are pleased. 17 hotels of 335 hold it.

  • The bill feels right

Here: $939 to $3,122 a night for 2 on Google Hotels, taxes included, read on 5 October 2026: all-inclusive, with 125 wines on the list.

30 of the 38 guests who write about the price are happy with it. 19 hotels of 335 hold it.

What the badges are

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Moofushi’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. The reef starts a few metres off the beach: guests describe turtles, rays and small sharks seen with a mask in front of the villa, and a soft-sand island to walk barefoot.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write of spacious, spotless villas with a terrace and, over the water, steps down into the sea; of the Senior Water Villa they describe the space, the bath and the view.

  3. Staff and service

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Staff greet guests by name from the second day and remember what they like; the sommeliers, the chefs at Manta and the dive-centre team are named again and again.

  4. Breakfast

Breakfast is the buffet at Manta, on its sand floor by the sea; guests remember the choice and the restaurant staff who greet them every morning.

  5. Price

8 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. Guests who write about the bill describe what the all-inclusive covers: wines chosen with the sommeliers, champagne at lunch and dinner, the minibar restocked every day and some boat trips.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 3 October 2016 to 27 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 5 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in the Maldives:

Price: for two on the night of 10 May 2027, from $884 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).

The house reef

It starts a few metres off the beach, with stingrays, lionfish, snappers and eels; the diving page describes typical visibility of 20 to 25 metres and a slow to moderate current (diving). Guests swim out from the shore and describe turtles and sharks (Google). From 1 November 2026, group snorkelling with a marine biologist twice a week is included (Virgin Atlantic Holidays).

Mantas, nurse sharks and the whale shark

From January to May the resort’s dhoni goes looking for mantas, and when it finds them you slip into the water beside them (fact sheet). On Mondays and Thursdays, 2.30 to 5pm, Blue Tribe runs the speedboat trip to swim with nurse sharks, $150 a person plus service and tax; the centre promises sightings but excludes refunds if none are seen (Blue Tribe); once a week, on request and with at least 8 people, it goes to Maamigili in search of the whale shark, with no refund if none is seen (Blue Tribe).

The spa’s thatched pavilions over the water, loungers on the deck

The spa over the water

It stands on a wooden jetty above the lagoon, with 6 single and 2 double treatment rooms and a yoga pavilion, open 9am to 9pm (spa). On the price list linked from the spa page, dated 2022, the 90-minute signature massage costs $170 and the couple’s massage $400, plus 10% service and 12% tax (price list).

A table for 2 laid on the sand at Alizée at night, lights strung on a tree

The cellar and the Manta Bar

Of the cellar’s more than 15,000 bottles, over 125 labels come with the plan and another 700 are charged, says the 2026 fact sheet (fact sheet); the Manta page gives 12,000 bottles and 300 labels to buy (Manta). House champagne is poured at lunch and dinner; wine tastings and cocktail classes run twice a week (Virgin Atlantic Holidays). The Manta Bar, on the sand, closes at 12.30am (Manta Bar).

A sailing dhoni on a calm sea, a pale horizon

Boat trips

The plan includes boat trips, their number set by the length of the stay and the weather (Virgin Atlantic Holidays). The fact sheet lists as paid: the sandbank with a meal and a bottle of sparkling wine, the sunset dhoni cruise, dolphin watching, fishing and the visit to Himandhoo village, with its mosque and open-air school (fact sheet).
