Vadoo has taken guests since 1978, according to the Ministry of Tourism register, and the Maldives’ first overwater villa was built here in 1986; since February 2020 it has housed the spa (Travel Trade Maldives). Aitken Spence took the island over in 2008 and rebuilt it in under 9 months as a resort of overwater villas only, opened on 28 March 2009 (Aitken Spence). The island covers 1.8 hectares and takes 9 minutes to walk round, measured on OpenStreetMap.
There are 50 villas, all over the water: 19 Sunrise villas facing east, 26 Sunset villas facing west, one 95 m² Overwater Villa and 4 Honeymoon Villas of 110 m² (villas, resort fact sheet). Every one has a Jacuzzi in a bathroom with a glass floor panel, and 49 also have a plunge pool on the deck. For Voyager Guru, hosted by the resort and writing in August 2025, they are spacious, and the plunge pool on the deck is for cooling off, too small for swimming.
You eat at Farivalhu, the main restaurant, at Kithajima, the Japanese, and at Kakuni, on the sand, in the evening only and by reservation; you drink at the Kandholi Bar, over the water, and at the Dhoni Bar (dining). For a small island with a house reef and water villas, Baros has speedboats arriving at any hour. Hard Rock suits a stay spread across a 3-island development, with free bicycles and buggies for getting around.

Sharks and turtles a few metres off the beach, a massage where the first overwater villa stood, sushi and sake, a barefoot dinner and a cocktail over the lagoon.
It drops on the island’s east side from the surface to 35 metres, with a sandy floor sheltered from the current; to the north runs Vaadhoo Kandu, the channel between the 2 Malé atolls, more than 500 metres deep. Turtles, whitetip and grey sharks and eagle rays are seen often; the current runs from light to strong and the dive centre asks guests to check the tides every day (house reef). Mask and fins are on the plan (Premium All-Inclusive).
The Mandara Spa occupies the Maldives’ first overwater villa, built in 1986 and opened as a spa on 29 February 2020 (Travel Trade Maldives): 3 double rooms: 2 with showers and one with a bath, a deck over the sea, Balinese therapists and ELEMIS products (spa). The plan gives a $50 credit; cancel less than 6 hours ahead and half the treatment is charged.
Edamame, sushi, tempura and sashimi, with Japanese beer or sake (Kithajima). The all-inclusive plan covers a Japanese set menu, by reservation (Premium All-Inclusive); Voyager Guru recommends asking for rolls made to order.
20 covers on the sand, evenings only from 7.30pm and by reservation: the day’s fish and Maldivian dishes (Kakuni). The plan includes one 3- or 4-course meal there, booked ahead (Premium All-Inclusive); Voyager Guru, reviewing it in August 2025, found it closed most evenings.
The main bar stands over the water, with a wooden deck open on 3 sides, from 8am to midnight (Kandholi Bar, Premium All-Inclusive); sundown cocktails are included. For Voyager Guru the deck looks out on the sea all round, and at dusk fish and sharks swim by.
The Lucky Dolphin Safari lasts 60 minutes and costs $100 a person, taxes included (excursions); from 4 nights the plan includes it once, with a sunset dhoni trip (Premium All-Inclusive). The resort writes that many dolphins pass through the channel, and sometimes whales (house reef).

The resort sells day passes: buyers between December 2025 and March 2026 report paying $100 to $135 a person, and on the days when groups come over the pool and the beach are busier (Google). The festive programme has prices for non-residents and an evening just for them, $90 with the transfer on 17 December (festive programme).
The all-inclusive plan leaves out drinks after midnight and on excursions and anything its page does not list; drinks are served one glass at a time (Premium All-Inclusive). For Voyager Guru, Aperol Spritz, espresso martinis and champagne were charged too.
