The plan starts at the table
Soul Kitchen serves all 3 meals as a buffet. Flames, the grill, gives Premium All Inclusive guests a 3-course dinner from the chef’s menu; Mizu, teppanyaki on stilts over the lagoon, takes 20% off the food.
Reef sharks off the jetty and live music at the bar, in South Ari
Nova suits couples and friends who spend the day on a house reef of sharks, rays and turtles and the evening at a bar with live music, on an island of 76 villas. Anyone after silence, or travelling with small children, should weigh first that the resort describes its guests as couples and groups of friends.

I would ask for a Water Villa with Private Pool: 160 m² over the lagoon, with direct access to the water. A guest who wrote in April 2026, after a Beach Villa with a pool, called the water villa the highlight.
The shared seaplane is $475 per adult and $325 per child aged 2 to 11 round trip until 10 January 2027, taxes included; on 14 October 2026 the resort’s page added a fuel surcharge of $40 per person.
The resort offers house reef night snorkelling, and a UV night snorkel under ultraviolet lights. A guest who wrote in March 2026 calls a nightly visit to the pier a must, to see sharks and rays under the lights.
Nova is small: guests walk round it in 10 to 30 minutes, and several go barefoot the whole stay. The days are spent in the water. Reef sharks, rays and turtles are the regulars of the house reef, and after dark the lights of the jetty bring in rays and young sharks. Whale sharks and mantas are a boat trip away, at $120 and $110 before service and tax, and are no certainty: one guest saw 6 whale sharks on a single outing (April 2026), another went out twice and saw none (May 2026). Evenings are at Wink, with live music and a DJ; the few guests who write of noise name, among other things, the seaplanes, the first at about 6am, a generator and the evening entertainment.
Lumina Guide 2027
Nova is a small island in South Ari Atoll made for company: shared activities, bars beside the villas and trips out to the reef.
How we choose the hotelsWhat we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.
25 minutes by seaplane from Malé and 5 by boat; the resort counts over 30 dive, manta and whale-shark sites within 40 minutes.
A barefoot island with Holhuashi, the weekly gathering for Maldivian storytelling under the banyan tree, and live music at Wink.
11 villa types from 80 to 250 m²: a Jacuzzi in some, a pool in others, 7 connecting pairs and one 2-bedroom residence.
Soul Kitchen’s buffet for every meal, Flames for a grill dinner, Mizu for teppanyaki over the lagoon, with dinner sets from $75.
Eskape Spa over the lagoon: a 60-minute Thai massage at $105, a steam room with any treatment, sunrise yoga for the group.
On Google from $784 a night for 2, 16–19 November 2026, read on 5 October; the seaplane is $475 per adult on top.
What do Nova’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write about a compact island and its house reef, where they snorkel among sharks, rays and turtles.
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Space, modern interiors and cleanliness recur, along with the water villas with a Jacuzzi or a pool and direct access to the sea.
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write, often by name, about the staff of the Wink and Solis bars, the restaurants, housekeeping and the dive centre.
6 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Breakfast is a buffet at Soul Kitchen; guests remember the eggs and the dishes cooked to order.
The transfer, premium dishes and excursions come on top of the rate; guests who write about the bill mostly talk about the trips to see whale sharks, mantas and turtles.

The scores come from 307 Google reviews with text, left from 11 August 2022 to 2 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Ari Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 5 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Soul Kitchen serves all 3 meals as a buffet. Flames, the grill, gives Premium All Inclusive guests a 3-course dinner from the chef’s menu; Mizu, teppanyaki on stilts over the lagoon, takes 20% off the food.

Eskape Spa has 3 treatment rooms, a Thai sala and a yoga pavilion. Sunrise yoga for the group is free; a private class is $45 for 60 minutes.

Reef sharks, rays and turtles are the regulars on the house reef, best reached from the jetty. Whale sharks, the resort says, are in South Ari all year; 4 guests still came back from the trip without seeing one.

The shared seaplane, about 25 minutes plus 5 by boat, costs $475 per adult and $325 for children aged 2 to 11, return, until 10 January 2027; then $495 and $355. Departures end at 4pm. The international flight must land at least an hour before, and Nova arranges every transfer; fares read on 5 October 2026, taxes included; on 14 October 2026 the resort’s page added a fuel surcharge of $40 per person to the transfer price. Between December 2025 and May 2026, 6 Google reviews tell of waits of a couple of hours or of delayed seaplanes, on the way in or out. The resort’s pages give no luggage allowance; one guest was told 20 kg each by email (December 2025). A private seaplane is $5,500 net each way.
The villa changes the stay: some have a Jacuzzi, others a pool, and there are connecting villas for people travelling together; Full Board and Premium All Inclusive differ in venues, drinks and services. The Water Villa with Jacuzzi and Sunset Beach Villa with Jacuzzi have no swimming pool; the 2-bedroom residence has both. The Beach Pool Villa’s pool lies in an enclosed garden beside the bathroom; a guest who had a beach villa with a pool found it at the back, shut in on every side, with no view of the beach or the sea (July 2023). One plan covers everyone in the villa for the whole stay.
The house reef is easiest reached from the jetty: 3 guests, between June 2025 and July 2026, say to set off from there. 3 others, between November 2023 and March 2026, found it hard to reach from the beach, with breakwaters in the way and few places to get through.

307 Google reviews with text, from August 2022 to October 2026.
We read the 307 Google reviews with text published between 11 August 2022, the day after the tourism board announced the resort, and 2 October 2026; the listing’s 4.8/5 rests on 369 ratings in all. The services come up in 282 of them, the location in 161, the rooms in 144, the bill in 37 and breakfast in 24. What recurs is a small island, a house reef with sharks, rays and turtles, large clean villas made up twice a day, and the staff of the bars, the restaurants and the dive centre, thanked by name; more than 40 reviews mention a honeymoon. So do the prices of excursions, restaurants and extras, which come on top of the rate, and the waits for the seaplane. The dates are those of publication, and a few reviews are about the booking office.
Of the 161 reviews that mention the location, 88% speak well of it. The small, compact island and the house reef recur: guests snorkel there among sharks, rays and turtles, setting off from the beach or the villa.
Of the 144 reviews that mention the villas, 88% speak well of them. Space, modern interiors and cleanliness recur, with housekeeping twice a day, and so do the water villas with a Jacuzzi or a pool.
Breakfast is a buffet at Soul Kitchen: guests who write about it remember the eggs and the dishes cooked to order.
37 reviews mention the bill. The prices of activities, restaurants and supplements, which come on top of the rate, recur; the figures guests recall are those of their own stay.
Of the 282 reviews that mention the services, 91% speak well of them. The staff of the bars, the restaurants, housekeeping and the dive centre recur, often by name.

Nova Maldives is a resort of Pulse Hotels & Resorts on Vakarufalhi, a small island in South Ari Atoll. It has 76 villas in 11 types: the 2024 brochure lists 69 to book, 7 of them pairs of connecting villas, which makes 76 when each pair is counted as 2. Google lists it as a 5-star hotel. The resort describes itself as a community of couples and groups of friends, with animators, live entertainment and an all-inclusive plan. The Maldives tourism board announced it on 10 August 2022 as already open.
11 types. On the beach: 17 Beach Villas and 6 Sunset Beach Villas, 80 m²; 8 Sunset Beach Villas with Jacuzzi, 80 m²; one Beach Pool Villa and 4 Sunset Beach Villas with Pool, 160 m²; 3 Interconnected Beach Villas and 4 Interconnected Beach Villas with Jacuzzi, each a pair joined by an internal door, 160 m² together; and one Two Bedroom Beach Residence with Private Pool, 250 m², with 2 king bedrooms, a pool and a Jacuzzi. Over the lagoon: 7 Water Villas and 10 Water Villas with Jacuzzi, 125 m², and 8 Water Villas with Private Pool, 160 m². Villas sleep up to 3, the connecting pairs and the residence up to 5. The resort gives one area per villa, with no separate figure for the rooms indoors. The Water Villa with Private Pool has a king-size bed on its own page and king or twin in the list of villas: ask before counting on twin beds. Sockets are Type G, the British 3-pin kind.
On Vakarufalhi, in South Ari Atoll; the Kaneeru Villa address in Malé that Google shows is the office of Pulse Hotels & Resorts. The resort calls the island 100% natural, with long-established vegetation, and runs communal activities and live entertainment. One guest walked round it in 10 minutes, another in 15. Many guests call it quiet. One, in March 2026, heard seaplanes and speedboats through the day and the staff’s football behind the villa from about 10.30pm to midnight; one guest in a water villa puts the first seaplane between 5.30am and 6am (March 2025), and another has it at about 6am (March 2026).
By seaplane from Velana airport in Malé: about 25 minutes direct, longer when it drops other travellers at their resorts first, then 5 minutes by speedboat. The shared return fare, taxes included, is $475 per adult and $325 for children aged 2 to 11 until 10 January 2027; from 11 January 2027 to 7 January 2028 it is $495 and $355. Under-2s travel free. On 14 October 2026 the resort’s page added a fuel surcharge of $40 per person to the transfer price. A private seaplane is $5,500 net each way. Nova arranges every transfer. Seaplanes stop leaving at 4pm, and the resort asks that the international flight land at least an hour before. How long you wait is another matter: hardly at all for one guest on arrival (March 2026), 2 hours for another on leaving (December 2025).
No: the island is reached by seaplane and speedboat, both arranged by Nova, whose staff meet you outside customs at Velana airport. The Malé address is an office, and the resort publishes nothing about parking at the airport.
The beach villas are a few steps from the shore. The water villas have a sun deck and their own staircase into the lagoon: one guest swam from it for 5 to 10 minutes and met turtles and rays (October 2025). From the beach the reef lies beyond breakwaters, and near the water villas low tide can make getting in and out risky, a guest wrote in March 2023; several go in from the jetty. The Beach Pool Villa’s pool is in an enclosed garden beside the bathroom and does not face the lagoon; in the Water Villa with Private Pool it lies just beyond the bedroom’s glass.
Guests write of blacktip and nurse sharks, eagle rays, stingrays, turtles and moray eels on the house reef. On the coral they differ by year: mostly dead for those writing between October 2022 and February 2025, in good health for 2 guests in May and July 2026, dead in parts for a third that August. Premium All Inclusive lends snorkelling gear, standard kayaks and paddleboards free, glass kayaks excepted; the price list has the gear at $9 a day, and a guest on Full Board paid about $12 with service and tax (March 2026). A guided house-reef snorkel is $35, for at least 2 guests, and a 1-hour lesson $45. By boat, whale-shark snorkelling is $120, manta snorkelling $110 and the Turtle Quest $75, all plus 10% service and 17% GST. For divers the resort names pinnacles and wrecks, Kuda Rah Thila, Broken Rock and the Kudhi Maa wreck among them. On sightings the resort says 2 things: “never guaranteed” on its Experiences page, guaranteed in season for whale sharks in the Aquaholics brochure. 4 guests went out for a whale shark and came back without one (January 2023 to May 2026).
One shared pool, the oval one beside Solis, the pool bar, and private pools in 4 villa types: the Beach Pool Villa, the Sunset Beach Villa with Pool, the Water Villa with Private Pool and the Two Bedroom Beach Residence with Private Pool, which has a Jacuzzi as well. The Water Villa with Jacuzzi and Sunset Beach Villa with Jacuzzi have no swimming pool of their own. The resort gives no measurements or depths, and a floating breakfast in a private pool is charged, at $135 for 2.
The resort publishes neither hours nor a temperature for its pools. 2 things are known: under Premium All Inclusive the drinks at Solis, the pool bar, run from 10am to 7pm, and by the resort’s See You Soon guide the air stays between 28 and 32 °C all year. Reception is open 24 hours a day.
Soul Kitchen is the buffet where both meal plans are served, with stations cooking to order. Flames is the grill, Mizu the teppanyaki restaurant on stilts over the lagoon, Wink the main bar and Solis the pool bar. The resort asks you to book Flames and Mizu; the rest take you as you come, barefoot, with a shirt or cover-up indoors. What costs extra: at Flames, the dishes marked with a red star, which the all-inclusive dinner leaves out (the menu’s file is dated January 2026); at Mizu, everything, at 20% off the food on a meal plan, with a lunch set at $45 and dinner sets from $75 to $125 (file dated June 2025). The Destination Dining menu prices private dinners, each with a meat or seafood menu and a vegetarian one, at $195 to $250 on the beach, $295 to $350 on the Nava Pavilion, a wooden platform over the lagoon, and $395 to $450 per person on a sandbank; only the sandbank prices say per person. The resort also lists a Lobster & Bubbles barbecue; a guest found it held on the beach every Tuesday (April 2026). From the breakfast menu (file dated June 2025), a Floating Breakfast is $135 per couple, a Lagoon Breakfast $155 and a Bubble Breakfast, with a bottle of sparkling wine, $165; wellness dishes and extra juices are charged on top. The Flames, Mizu and breakfast menus add 10% service and 17% GST; Destination Dining marks its prices ++ without specifying the percentages. Tell the kitchen about a diet or an allergy before you arrive, as the resort asks: a vegan guest (April 2025) and one who eats gluten-free (September 2026) had dishes cooked for them.
There are 2 plans. Full Board, which the resort’s FAQs also call Full Board Plus, is breakfast, lunch and dinner at Soul Kitchen with soft drinks, juice, water, tea and coffee at meals, and 20% off the food at an à la carte dinner. Premium All Inclusive adds a 3-course dinner from the chef’s menu at Flames, 20% off the food at Mizu, brunch snacks at Wink from 10am to 11am and tea there from 4pm to 5pm, and drinks by the glass at Wink from 10am to midnight, at Solis from 10am to 7pm, at Soul Kitchen with lunch and dinner and at Flames with dinner. The minibar is refilled daily, snorkelling gear, standard kayaks and paddleboards are lent free (glass kayaks excepted) and the scheduled group fitness classes are included. There is 15% off jet-ski hire, the Balinese massage and the named private dinners; the spa menu’s footer words that saving more broadly, so ask the spa which applies. Outside the plan: drinks before 10am or after midnight, whole bottles, the red-star dishes at Flames, the weekly theme dinners and events, cigarettes and shisha, and anything shared with a guest who is not on it. Everyone in a villa takes the same plan for the whole stay, and nothing unused is refunded. Rates add taxes and can change, discounts do not combine, and deposit and cancellation follow the rate you book. The offer page advertises a percentage off and gives no dates for it. 2 guests on Full Board whose parties drank little or no alcohol say they had no need of the upgrade (July 2023, May 2025).
Eskape Spa stands over the lagoon. The resort’s FAQ gives it 3 treatment rooms, a Thai sala, a relaxation room and a yoga pavilion; the tourism board’s announcement of 2022 counted 4 rooms, and the current menu speaks of 6 beach retreats. The menu runs to massages, facials, wraps and yoga. Guests are invited to use the steam room before or after a treatment. The menu’s file is dated September 2026.
No: every treatment is priced on the menu. Guests of all ages can book, and the Kids’ Spa takes children of 4 to 10; it is a list of treatments, not childcare. Premium All Inclusive takes 15% off the Balinese massage, by the meal-plan page; the spa menu’s footer words the saving more widely. Honeymooners on the honeymoon rate get one couple’s massage per stay from 7 nights: married within the past 12 months, certificate shown at booking, taxes and service charges added. The resort gives no price for the steam room alone and no terms for visitors from outside.
Arrive 15 minutes early: a late start shortens the treatment and the charge stays the same. Cancelling more than 24 hours ahead is free; between 24 and 3 hours ahead costs 50%, and within 3 hours, or not turning up, 100%. Walk-ins are welcome, though the spa prefers a booking, on extension 420; private yoga is by appointment too. The resort publishes no opening hours for the spa, though reception answers 24 hours a day.
From the current menu, before 10% service and 17% GST: Maldivian Ocean Dream, $135 for 75 minutes or $165 for 90; Balinese and Relax Your Mind, $120 for 60 minutes or $155 for 90; Traditional Thai, $105 or $145, and Sports, $135 or $165, for 60 or 90 minutes. For 2, Couple Bliss is $410 and Eskape to Romance $405, each 120 minutes. A Mini Facial is $90 for 30 minutes and the Anti-Ageing Facial $135 for 60. 5 styles of yoga are taught privately at $45 for 60 minutes, for up to 7 in the room; the sunrise class for the group is free. One guest was offered a couple’s massage at $360 and charged $457 (February 2025), the first figure plus 27%.
Families do come, though the resort describes its guests as couples and groups of friends. The connecting villas, which it suggests for families, and the 2-bedroom residence sleep up to 5; most villas sleep 3. Children of 2 to 11 pay the child fare on the seaplane and under-2s fly free. The Kids’ Spa, for ages 4 to 10, is a list of treatments, not childcare. A family with toddlers found almost nothing laid on for them, though the kitchen cooked to the children’s wishes (March 2026); another wished for a play area and a children’s pool (May 2026). With children one guest says to book “the main villa”, with 2 large bedrooms, a pool and a Jacuzzi, which describes the residence; another names villa 113 for a family with 2 (both July 2026).
A gym open 24 hours a day, with an outdoor training area and group classes, which one guest in 2026 calls the best in the Maldives and another the best-equipped seen at any resort; football and beach games; the Aquaholics dive and watersports centre; cultural activities; a clinic with a doctor on call; Wi-Fi; and The Hub, the reception, open round the clock. Sunrise yoga for the group is free and private classes are paid. Drones are banned on the island. Co-create is the room for meetings; the resort gives no capacity or price for it.
As read on 5 October 2026. The Soulcation Flash Sale, bookable until 14 October 2026 for stays to 31 August 2027, takes up to 50% off every villa and both plans. From 4 nights it adds, once per stay, a group sunset cruise for 2, a floating breakfast (Pool Villas only), a 30-minute photo session with one print per villa, 15% off selected watersports and experiences for Full Board Plus guests and, for stays to 31 October 2026, 30% off at Flames; from 7 nights, one more 3-course dinner at Flames or Mizu. Its $50 spa credit is per adult, once per stay, on treatments at menu price and not in the shop; the page ties it to 4 nights in one place and to no minimum in another. The Year-End offer, bookable until 31 October 2026 for stays to 23 December 2026, gives the photo session from 4 nights. From 7 it adds a group sunset cruise for 2, 15% off selected watersports and experiences (Full Board Plus only) and, until 31 October, a $50 spa credit per adult and one 3-course dinner, at Flames on Full Board Plus or at Mizu on Premium All Inclusive. From 10 nights there is a further 5% and one floating breakfast in a Pool Villa. Neither offer combines with another; taxes and service charges are added, and deposit and cancellation follow the rate booked. Advance Purchase closed for booking on 30 September 2026, and Stay Longer covered stays ending by that date.
Yes, with a symbolic ceremony: the wedding brochure, read on 5 October 2026, has 3. Sandy Toes, on the beach, is $1,700; Ocean Promises, on the Nava Pavilion over the lagoon, $2,150; A Sun-Kissed Kind of Love, on a sandbank, $2,900, and only this one adds a couple’s massage, a 5-course beach dinner with lobster and a bottle of wine, and a floating or lagoon breakfast. All 3 come with a bouquet, a bottle of Champagne, a cake, Bodu Beru music and about 60 photographs. Other drinks are extra, each activity is once per couple per stay, an extra chair is $10 a guest, and every price adds 10% service and 17% GST. The brochure sets no limit on guests and no terms for bad weather or cancellation. Honeymooners married within the past 12 months, with the certificate shown at booking, get fruit and sparkling wine on arrival, a 3-course dinner on the beach and a decorated bed from 3 nights, and a 60-minute couple’s massage from 7, each once per stay. Taxes and service charges are added; this offer can be combined with others, and its headline discount carries no dates. An anniversary that falls during the stay brings a cake and decoration.
The Festive Escape, bookable until 23 December 2026 for stays from 24 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, takes up to 35% off, with daily meals and the Christmas and New Year celebrations included. Between 26 December 2026 and 7 January 2027 the minimum is 7 nights, and nobody may check out on 31 December 2026. From 10 nights there is a further 5% and one floating breakfast in a Pool Villa. The lines marked with an asterisk (snorkelling gear, the minibar, the Flames dinner, the savings on services) are for all-inclusive guests only. It does not combine with other discounts, taxes and service charges are added, and deposit and cancellation follow the rate booked. The offer page gives neither the gala menu nor a supplement.
No golf appears among the resort’s facilities, activities or offers. The sports it names are the gym, football, beach games and whatever the sea allows.
The Maldives tourism board announced Nova on 10 August 2022 as already open. A guest that September wrote that the island, formerly run as Vakarufalhi, had been renamed under new management; another, in October, that it had opened in April after a refit. No closure is announced: the resort is selling stays for 2026–28, and Google showed a price for every night to 30 August 2027 and none for the 92 nights after.
Google Hotels, on 5 October 2026, showed $784 a night for 2 adults, in US dollars with taxes and fees included, for 16–19 November 2026. Its calendar of single nights held 288 prices and 92 nights without one: the lowest was $626 for 7–8 July 2027 and the highest $1,580, on each night from 31 December 2026 to 4 January 2027. In between, $768 on 26 November and 5 December 2026, $1,076 on Christmas Eve, $896 on 11 January 2027, $780 on 10 May and $918 on 10 August 2027. Google names neither the villa nor the meal plan behind a price. The seaplane, the spa and dinners outside the plan come on top.
We read 307 Google reviews with text, published from 11 August 2022 to 2 October 2026; the listing’s 4.8/5 rests on 369 ratings. The services come up in 282 reviews, the location in 161, the rooms in 144, the bill in 37 and breakfast in 24. Guests write of a small island, of sharks, rays and turtles on the house reef, of large, clean villas, and of bar, restaurant and dive-centre staff by name; in 2026 several mention one member of staff looking after them through the stay, reachable at any hour. They also write of what excursions, restaurants and extras add to the rate, and of waits for the seaplane.
The Google price for 2 includes taxes and fees. The shared seaplane fares include taxes, and the private seaplane is quoted net, each way. Everything on a menu or a price list (Flames, Mizu, the spa, Aquaholics) adds 10% service and 17% GST; a guest in March 2026 notes that prices on the island are shown without them. The offers add taxes and service charges. Whether a direct rate includes the Green Tax is for the resort to say.

A speedboat beach holiday with different ways to reach the sea

A reef within reach of the villa, with a livelier evening.

The far north, a private pool and 7 dining venues.

Space and greenery in the northern Maldives, with a journey to allow for.

A pool villa close to the airport, with outlook and meals to choose.

Ritz-Carlton Maldives suits couples and families who want a contemporary villa, a private pool and days divided between the spa and restaurants. Budget for meals, treatments and the speedboat when the chosen rate excludes them; reef snorkelling also involves guided boat trips.

Couples and groups choosing between beach and overwater duplex. Transfer prices unspecified; minibar and spa have separate costs

Couples and families wanting meals and activities with explicit terms. Category-specific access; transfers and supplements separate from room quote

Beach, garden or overwater: choose the room first, then the board and transfer.

The Nautilus Maldives suits guests seeking a spacious house, a butler and meals that follow their own rhythm on a small Baa island. Privacy comes at a substantial cost, and transfers, spa and experiences need separate reading from the house rate.

Ifuru Island Maldives suits families and groups seeking a beach, varied restaurants and a pool with music, with arrivals also using the island’s airstrip. Suites and villas have distinct formats, while supplements, transfers and activities do not all become part of Premium All Inclusive.

Brennia Kottefaru suits guests choosing between garden, beach and water, with villas for 2 and residences for a larger family. The variety needs careful reading: counts and areas have discrepancies, and Manta and Sunset Grill require reservations and supplements.
