Villa Park suits families and couples who want a big island with plenty to do, at a price that is low for the Maldives: 462 villas, bicycles, a kids’ club open until 10pm and, in November 2026, one night for 2 taken alone from $242 to $258. It suits less anyone who wants a speedboat straight from the airport: here a domestic flight or a seaplane comes first.

  1. The villa to ask for

For a couple I would ask for a beach villa with its own pool: guests most often name the Lagoon Beach Pool Villa, 117 m²; the Beach Pool Villa has 121 m², and 3 returning guests book a villa with a pool.

  2. The weeks that cost less

On 12 October 2026 Google showed, for one night taken alone, $242 or $250 on every night from 4 November to 21 December, $223 to $225 in the lowest week, 8 to 14 June 2027, and $1,448 to $1,555 in the first week of January.

  3. On top of the rate

The transfer from Malé: $420 per adult return by domestic flight and speedboat, or $570 by shared seaplane, on or after 1 November 2026; before that date, $400 and $550. Children from 2 to 11 pay half.

  4. After dark, at Al Pontile

Ask for an outside table at the Italian restaurant over the water, a corner one if you can: the resort’s own tip. When the lights come on they attract plankton, and manta rays may circle below; 4 guests since 2023 write of mantas there.

What Villa Park is

Villa Park occupies Nalaguraidhoo in South Ari Atoll: the former Sun Island, renamed in 2023 with refurbished rooms and shared spaces. The catalogue has 16 categories and the facilities page lists 462 villas, without saying how many belong to each type. Sources: transformation story.

A 35 m² Beach Villa, a 46 m² Sun Villa in the garden and a 73 m² Water Villa on the jetty offer different stays. 5 categories list a private pool; the Two Bedroom Overwater has a whirlpool instead. For 2 bedrooms together, the 242 m² Beach Pool connects 2 villas and the 465 m² Residence adds a separate living room. Choose from the current catalogue and its amenities rather than an old Sun Island room name. Sources: The catalogue.

Move from Maaniya’s buffet to Thai food at Sun Star, Italian at Al Pontile, Japanese Teppanyaki or ZERO’s tables among the trees. Infinity, bought for the whole stay, includes selected drinks, minibar replenishment and scheduled activities; All Inclusive and Premium AI have their own terms. Book spa appointments, dives, motorised sports, excursions and à la carte meals. Special dining, private trips, private dives and private lessons remain extra. Personal drinks come one glass at a time, benefits cannot be transferred, and unused benefits or shortened stays receive no refund. Weather and other events may prevent activities. Booking and stay expiry dates for the plan are not published.

Araamu Spa gives the day a quieter garden setting. The menu currently linked by the operator prints Araamu Immersion at US$169 for 60 minutes, including its stated service and tax, plus a separately priced wet-facility session. Bookings need advance planning: it recommends 1 day ahead, arrival 15 minutes early and 3 hours’ cancellation notice to avoid a 75% fee. The filename says April 2024 and does not establish the last revision. The price currently charged for an appointment is not established by that linked menu.

In the 500 Google reviews with text written between 7 November 2023 and 4 October 2026, guests tell above all of the island and the staff: a large green island to explore by bicycle or buggy, snorkelling a few metres from the shore, the Maaniya buffet, waiters and housekeepers thanked by name. Anyone after a small island with few guests will be happier elsewhere; those who want space, activities and a choice of restaurants find them here, with the room category and the meal plan deciding the bill. The separate room offer also needs its transfer cost: 35 minutes by seaplane or 17 minutes domestic flying plus 10 minutes by boat excludes airport waiting.

In the Lumina Guide

Lumina Guide 2027

Villa Park, formerly Sun Island, occupies Nalaguraidhoo island in South Ari Atoll: 16 room categories on the beach, in the garden or on the jetty, with activities for families and pool villas.

How we choose the hotels

Those who come back

Among the hotel’s regulars, 27 thank by name the people who looked after them, most often a waiter, a housekeeper or a host, and 4 found the same people as the time before. 6 are families who write of the kids’ club. They notice what changes: 4 write of refurbished villas. A guest on a second stay, writing in January 2026, notes that on all-inclusive some drinks still cost $7 or $8 more; another, on a twelfth stay, writing in July 2025, that the beach dinners are charged apart.

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  1. Location

Island beaches and a choice of 2 flight-based arrival routes; airport waits remain separate.

  2. Character

Garden dining and colourful refreshed interiors distinguish parts of the island; the 2023 refresh covered part of the rooms and shared spaces.

  3. Rooms

16 formats offer genuine choice, with pool and overwater features that need careful distinction.

  4. Food and social life

Buffet, Thai, Italian, Japanese and treetop dining; access depends on the paid plan.

  5. Wellness

Garden spa, explicit treatment prices and separate wet facilities; appointments have booking and cancellation terms.

  6. The stay as a whole

A full activity day is possible, but room, board and flight-transfer choices can change the final bill.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Villa Park’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Nalaguraidhoo, in South Ari Atoll, is a large, green island: guests get round it by bicycle or buggy and write of snorkelling a few metres from the shore and of the sharks and rays they see from the beach.

  2. Room

7 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. 16 categories, from garden Sun Villas to the Water Villas on the jetty: guests write of the beach in front of the Beach Villas, the way down into the sea from the Water Villas and rooms made up twice a day.

  3. Staff and service

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests thank by name the waiters at Maaniya, the housekeepers and the host the resort assigns to each of them, the person to ask for bookings and advice; buggies are called from the room.

  4. Breakfast

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Breakfast is the buffet at Maaniya, from 7.30 to 10am: guests write of a plentiful breakfast, with fruit juices included even on full board.

  5. Price

On full board, water, tea and coffee are included with meals; guests note the rest: a beer $7, a glass of wine $15, a bicycle $8 a day, and excursions on top.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 7 November 2023 to 4 October 2026. Window after the name change and partial upgrades in 2023. The four comparison hotels use different recent windows: the comparison describes guest texts in those periods, without a controlled stay test. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Questions before you go

Where can you eat at Villa Park?

Maaniya is the buffet; Sun Star serves Thai à la carte, Al Pontile Italian food, ZERO treetop dining and Teppanyaki Japanese live cooking. The current dining page also lists La Tropicana, Vaani, Mekunu, Garden and Pool bars. Maaniya breakfast is 7:30–10, lunch 12:30–14 and dinner 19–21. Restaurant access follows the booked plan; the resort’s dining page, read on 15 October 2026, names 5 restaurants, 4 bars and 1 coffee shop.

What is Araamu Spa like?

Araamu Spa is set in a garden rather than over the lagoon. The linked menu describes massages, facials with Elemental Herbology products, Ayurvedic treatments, baths and wet facilities. Its Pot Tub is a separately bookable bath. It is distinct from a villa’s pool. Treatment-room count and total spa area are not established by the current materials read. Descriptions of therapeutic benefits remain the operator’s marketing.

How much does Villa Park cost?

On Google Hotels’ calendar, read on 12 October 2026 for 2 adults, one night taken alone cost US$250 on 5–6 December 2026, US$1,546 on 5–6 January 2027, US$450 on 5–6 March 2027 and US$223 on 10–11 June 2027. In the same reading, booked as 7 nights from 16 November 2026, the lowest seller Google listed asked US$279 a night, where the calendar had US$250 for each of those nights. The calendar names neither the room nor the meal plan, and the transfer is charged apart.

Is Villa Park the former Sun Island?

Yes: Villa Resorts identifies Sun Island as Villa Park on Nalaguraidhoo in South Ari Atoll. The 2023 transformation includes rebranding and partial room/public-area upgrades; it does not establish a full-island rebuild. Google Hotels still used the Sun Island name on the same exact hotel identity. The facilities page prints 462 villas, but current category pages do not reconcile a unit total or category counts and contain overlapping 2-bedroom room-number ranges.

Can you arrange a wedding ceremony?

The operator has a dedicated weddings service for celebrations on the island. Available dates, package price, group accommodation and legal status of any ceremony require a specific confirmation. A romantic dinner or honeymoon benefit is not a wedding booking or proof of a legally recognised marriage.

Which villas have a private pool?

The current catalogue explicitly gives a pool to Two Bedroom Beach Pool Residence, Two Bedroom Beach Pool Villa, Deluxe Beach Pool Villa, Beach Pool Villa and Lagoon Beach Pool Villa. Water and Sunset Water Villas do not list a swimming pool; 2 Bedroom Overwater lists a whirlpool. Sunset Deluxe Beach Villa, 48 square metres, lists beach access and a private terrace but no pool, according to its official page, read on 15 October 2026. Is the spa included?

The spa menu charges for treatments and lists a 60-minute jacuzzi/sauna/steam session at US$59 single or 89 couple, already including its printed service and tax. Ordinary all-inclusive is described only as qualifying for a discount on selected treatments. The distinct Infinity Plan advertises a daily 60-minute spa treatment with prebooking. Do not extend that entitlement to every room or meal package. Outside-guest and day-pass terms are unspecified.

Infinity applies to the entire stay; benefits cannot be transferred and unused meals/benefits or a shortened stay are not refunded. Drinks are from the selected menu, for personal consumption, ordered one glass at a time without advance orders. Prebooking is required for spa, diving, motorised water sports, excursions and à la carte restaurants. Destination dining, private trips, private diving and all private lessons cost extra. Weather or circumstances beyond the operator’s control can prevent use. No printed booking expiry or stay validity is given.

How do the room categories differ?

16 current physical categories cover garden, beach, overwater and private-pool options. Sun Villa is 46 m², Beach 35, Sunset Beach 41, Lagoon Beach 52 and Island 52; Water and Sunset Water 73. Pool categories range from 117 to 170 m²; 2 Bedroom Family Beach is 96 m², Two Bedroom Overwater 201 and Two Bedroom Beach Pool 242. The 465 m² Residence has 2 bedrooms and a living room. Areas include the operator’s published basis, not independently measured indoor floor space.

Is Villa Park open all year?

The current operator accepts bookings and publishes winter offers through 30 April 2027, with holiday blackout dates for that offer. Google’s price calendar, read on 12 October 2026, ran to 7 September 2027 and showed a price for every night except 31 December 2026; a night without a price does not establish closure. 13 guests describe building or renovation works on the island: they wrote in October and December 2025 and in January, February, April, June, August and September 2026, and 3 of them, in January, February and September 2026, write of new villas going up. The resort’s pages give neither what is being built nor an end date: when you book, ask where the works stand and for a villa away from them.

Where is Villa Park, and how quiet is the island?

Villa Park occupies Nalaguraidhoo in South Ari Atoll. The current location page gives a 17-minute domestic flight plus 10-minute speedboat or a 35-minute seaplane from Velana International Airport. These are travel segments, excluding airport waiting, connections and weather delays. A boat-only journey from Malé is not the published standard route. The sources consulted do not provide measured noise levels for the island’s different areas or room categories.

Source 1

Is New Year dinner charged separately?

A current per-person mandatory gala-dinner price and its inclusion in every board package were not established. The Winter Escape discount excludes 24 December 2026–10 January 2027, which is a promotion blackout rather than a gala-dinner charge. Request the actual room-rate conditions for 31 December and the cost for each adult and child.

Source 2

Do you need a car or parking on the island?

The published arrival routes are domestic flight plus boat or seaplane. No guest vehicle-parking offer or car-transfer package is specified. Mobility assistance and a villa-specific route to the restaurants are not established by the sources read. Walking time depends on the assigned villa and cannot be derived from room-number ranges.

Source 1

Source 2

Does every villa open directly onto the sea?

No single promise applies across the catalogue: Sun and Island categories are garden settings; beach villas have different sections of the shoreline, and Water categories are on jetties. A photographed terrace or steps does not prove a safe swimming entry in every tide. The sources read do not establish assigned access, reef entry or currents for every category.

Source 2

Is there a golf package?

The land-sports page lists Studio Park, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, billiards, darts, tennis, squash and football. Coaching and floodlit courts are charged. The dining page locates Garden Bar near mini-golf, but no full golf course, green-fee package or off-island golf transfer is established. Mini-golf should not be presented as an 18-hole golf holiday.

When does Araamu Spa open?

The spa page and linked menu give 9 am–8 pm; the page says the last treatment starts 7 pm and the menu says it ends 8 pm. The menu recommends booking 1 day ahead and arriving 15 minutes early. Outside these hours needs at least 24 hours’ advance booking and may cost extra. A treatment’s length still determines its available appointment.

Ifuru Island Maldives

Ifuru Island Maldives suits families and groups seeking a beach, varied restaurants and a pool with music, with arrivals also using the island’s airstrip. Suites and villas have distinct formats, while supplements, transfers and activities do not all become part of Premium All Inclusive.

Brennia Kottefaru

Brennia Kottefaru suits guests choosing between garden, beach and water, with villas for 2 and residences for a larger family. The variety needs careful reading: counts and areas have discrepancies, and Manta and Sunset Grill require reservations and supplements.

Safari Island Maldives

Safari Island Maldives suits guests seeking traditional bungalows, diving and a sea-centred holiday, with 3 choices between beach and lagoon. Space and facilities are simpler than a large pool villa, and private boats, meal plans and taxes need distinct terms.
