ALBA, from breakfast to dinner
Mediterranean cooking with a Middle Eastern accent, in a tall dining room facing the sea: breakfast 7–10.30am, lunch noon–4pm, dinner 7–10.30pm. Breakfast is charged when the rate leaves it out.
St. Regis Maldives, on the private island of Vommuli in Dhaalu Atoll: 77 villas with private pools, 44 over the water and 33 between beach and jungle.
A week here, month by monthFor couples and families who want a large villa with a pool and a butler, The St. Regis starts at $3,778 a night from 10 May 2027: the lowest price any seller showed on Google for one night, for 2 adults. The shared seaplane, compulsory, comes on top of the night.
Official websiteDoes it suit you?
5 pairs of hotels, and the guide tells you whether this one suits you.
I would ask for a Beach Villa with Pool: 182 m² framed by white sand, with a step from the private terrace onto the beach and a private pool among the palms.
Consider 10–16 May 2027: single nights for 2 adults cost $3,778 each for 7 nights on Google, read 12 October 2026. From 23 December 2026 to 9 January 2027 they run from $8,888 to $9,884.
The shared seaplane costs $870 per person round trip and takes about 45 minutes from the airport. For flights arriving after 3.30pm, an overnight stay in Malé is required.
The Whale Bar, perched over the water, bursts into life at sunset with Latin-inspired tapas, cocktails, DJ sets and the signature Champagne Sabering Ritual; it is open every day from 5pm to midnight.
WOW Architects designed Vommuli around the creatures of its lagoon: the overwater villas take the shape of manta rays, the Whale Bar that of a whale shark and the Iridium Spa that of a crustacean. At the centre of the island, in jungle kept during construction, Vommuli House gathers the gym, Children’s Club, library and salon, with the tennis court in front. The resort opened in November 2016 (the design).
All 77 villas have a private pool: 44 over the water, 33 on land. They start with the 150 m² Garden Villa, enclosed in greenery, and the 182 m² Beach and Overwater Villas; the 2-bedroom villas reach 380 m² and the estates run from 531 to 1,725 m². The overwater John Jacob Astor Estate has 3 bedrooms, a 92 m² infinity pool, a cinema, a gym and 3 rooms for staff; Marriott gives it a maximum of 10 guests (signature villas).
Dinner is a choice of 7: ALBA, Mediterranean, from breakfast to dinner; T•Pan’s kaiseki; Orientale’s Asian cooking; tapas at the Whale Bar from 5pm to midnight; Cargo in the garden; Crust & Craft’s pizzas and the Decanter wine cellar. Several venues close one or two nights a week (hours). The overwater Iridium Spa covers 1,850 m², with 6 suites and the Blue Hole, a hydrotherapy pool beneath its covered terrace (the spa).
The bill is the other half of the decision. On 6 October 2026 a night for 2 in October and November cost about US$4,280 on Google Hotels, before the seaplane; between 23 December and 9 January the same search rose to US$8,888. Across 417 Google reviews with text written since December 2016, service satisfies 91% of those who mention it; some guests find the butler justifies the price, while restaurant and bar prices also recur in reviews.
Lumina Guide 2027

What do St. Regis Maldives’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write about the lagoon, sunsets from the Whale Bar and the fish beneath the villas, where many step down to snorkel.
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests praise the villas’ space, private pools and sea views; the overwater ones, where you step down into the lagoon, come up most.

The scores come from 417 Google reviews with text, left from 24 December 2016 to 1 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
The hotels we weigh it against in the Maldives:

The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort is Marriott’s St. Regis in the Maldives, on the private island of Vommuli in Dhaalu Atoll. It opened in November 2016; the exact day is not published. It has 77 villas, every one with a private pool: 44 over the water and 33 on land, between beach and jungle. WOW Architects designed it, with overwater villas shaped like manta rays and a Whale Bar modelled on a whale shark. The resort’s page lists a Forbes Travel Guide 5-star rating for 2024, 2025 and 2026. See the official website and the resort's design page.

See the rooms page, the signature villas page and the announcement of 15 April 2026.
Vommuli is one of the 56 islands of Dhaalu Atoll, south-west of Malé; Velana International Airport is 160 km away. The atoll opened to tourism in 1998 and has 7 inhabited islands, reached by boat. Robb Report India puts the island at 9 hectares. Its interior is dense jungle, kept during construction, ringed by a beach of coral sand and the lagoon; on the south coast the 2-storey family villas sit on the rocks and the shoals. How quiet it is depends on the villa: the Whale Bar has DJ sets until midnight. The comparison site tropki.com places the resort on Velavaru; the official address is Vommuli Island, Dhaalu Atoll, 13080. See the experiences page, the resort's design page and Robb Report India.
The transfer is compulsory: a shared seaplane, US$870 per person return, about 45 minutes from Velana airport; the resort’s design page says 40. Anyone landing in Malé after 3.30pm must spend a night in the city. The baggage allowance is 30 kg including hand luggage, and each extra kilo costs US$5.80. The page gives no child fare and does not say whether the price includes tax. Alternatively, Norma, the resort’s yacht, can be chartered for a direct transfer or one with a night on board. One offer, Family Escape with Seaplane Transfers, valid from 15 August 2026 to 15 August 2027, carries the seaplane in its name. See the official website and the resort's design page.
No. Vommuli is reached only by seaplane or boat, and the official page confirms it: no parking and no electric-vehicle charging. On the island guests get about by bicycle, provided by the resort, and on its free shuttle. See the official website.
It depends on the villa. The Beach Villas and the beachfront signature villas open onto the sand; the overwater villas have a deck above the lagoon, and the official photograph of the Two Bedroom Sunset Villa shows a ladder down into the sea. The Garden Villas sit in the jungle with no beach of their own. Paddleboards, canoes and windsurfers are free for anyone heading out without an instructor; lessons and guided trips cost extra. See the rooms page and the dive centre page.
The resort describes a house reef around the island, beneath the overwater villas, and more than 40 dive sites around the atoll, 25 of them within 20 minutes by boat. The dive centre is PADI-recognised: lessons from 8, certification from 10, Bubblemaker for 8- and 9-year-olds, nitrox and night dives. The water stays between 27 and 29 °C all year. Excursions go looking for manta rays and whale sharks, which nobody can promise. In the reviews many guests snorkel straight from their villa; in 2021, 2022 and 2026 some found little coral or rough water. See the official website, the dive centre page and the Google reviews.
Every villa has its own: the estates list 92 m² for the John Jacob Astor, with 2 plunge pools, and 67 m² for the Caroline Astor, the Knickerbocker and the Cesar Balsa; the Two Bedroom Ocean Villa has 30 m² since its rebuild. Shared by everyone are the infinity pool, free and with towels, and the Kids Pool, closed for maintenance until 10 October 2026. At the spa is the Blue Hole, a hydrotherapy pool with whirlpool jets beneath the covered terrace, which closed for works from 9 to 19 September 2026. See the signature villas page, the experiences page and the announcement of 15 April 2026.
The infinity pool opens 11am–6pm, the Blue Hole 10am–6pm. The resort publishes no pool temperature and does not say whether the pools are heated; the sea, according to the dive centre, stays between 27 and 29 °C all year. See the experiences page and the dive centre page.

The dress code is smart casual, casual at Crust & Craft, and the resort warns that some venues may close on certain days of the season. See the restaurants page.
That depends on the rate: Marriott lists breakfast as charged when the rate leaves it out, and the offers of 2 October 2026 included no all-inclusive plan. Some offers add meals: the Festive Getaway breakfast at ALBA for 2, the Full Board Escape, from 15 August 2026 to 15 August 2027, the full board in its name, and the signature-villa offers half board. Among the private dinners, Decanter serves 5 courses with wine; its dining-room menu has 6. See the official website, the restaurants page and the Festive Getaway offer.
It stands over the water, modelled on a crustacean, and covers 1,850 m². It has 6 treatment suites, 2 of them Ayurvedic with private steam rooms, each with its own bathroom and a terrace with a bath; then saunas, steam rooms, cold-drench showers and the Blue Hole, one of the largest hydrotherapy pools in the Maldives by the resort’s account. Visits begin in the Iridium Room, whose glass floor looks down into the lagoon. It uses Biologique Recherche products, with an Ayurvedic specialist and an acupuncturist. The hair and nail salon is at Vommuli House. According to the resort’s page, the World Travel Awards named it the Indian Ocean’s best resort spa in 2021. See the spa page and the official website.
Treatments are booked separately, through the butler; the page does not say whether the Blue Hole is free for guests and offers no day passes for non-residents. During pregnancy the spa performs no massages or body treatments in the first trimester and rules out some treatments throughout; the dive centre follows PADI guidance, which advises against diving. See the spa page.

The resort is open, and the Google Hotels calendar had prices for almost every night between October 2026 and January 2027. The resort gave 2 facilities as closed for maintenance until 10 October 2026: the Kids Pool and the library. The resort renovated widely in 2025: its letter to partners of 14 October 2025 listed ALBA’s beach and reception as finished, with the Beach Villa beach, the 2-bedroom family villas, Cargo, the gym, tennis, padel and the Children’s Club due between late October and 1 December 2025. Service satisfies 91% of the 290 guests who discuss it, and the credit nearly always goes to the butler; the villas satisfy 92% of 132, the location 90% of 138 and breakfast 88% of 60. Guests who find the price justified give the butler as their reason; restaurant and bar prices also recur in reviews. Lunches and dinners are charged separately when the offer does not include them; in 2025 the resort renovated reception, the gym and the 2-bedroom villas, and it is worth asking whether works fall on your dates.
