Mercure Kooddoo is for couples who want sharks and turtles off the steps of a water villa and bar staff who remember their drink, with nights for 2 from $545 before Christmas and from $370 in May 2027. Anyone after a new villa, or evenings livelier than a DJ by the pool, should look at a newer, larger resort.
Co-founder & CEOMarco Di CesareHe spent weeks comparing hotels and kept finding that the detail deciding the trip was missing from the hotel website. 10 years in marketing technology, 2 of them building with AI.About MarcoHow we write the guideLinkedIn
For the reef, the Overwater Reef Pool Villa, which the resort describes with direct access to it. Since 2021, 4 guests recommend a villa with its own pool, and 2 more call upgrading to one their best decision.
The weeks that cost less
Read on 12 October 2026, the calendar’s lowest 7 nights in a row run from 1 to 7 August 2027, at $377 to $426, and its lowest night is 27 May, at $370. From 24 December to 11 January nights cost $824 to $988.
On top of the rate
The domestic flight: $700 per adult return, valid until 23 December 2026 on Booking.com’s listing. For 24 and 31 December 2025 the same listing made a gala dinner compulsory, at $175 to $350 a head plus tax and service, by evening and meal plan.
The equator’s sun
Kooddoo lies less than one degree north of the equator. Between 2019 and 2025, 5 guests tell the next to pack sunscreen, which one found dear on the island; another advises keeping out of the sun from 10.30am to 1.30pm on clear days.
What Mercure Kooddoo is
At Kooddoo the sea starts under the villa. The 5 over-water categories have steps into the lagoon and, in 2 of them, direct access to the house reef, where guests report blacktip sharks, turtles and rays some 30 metres off the decks; the 2 beach categories sit among the palms, a few steps from the sand. The resort is adults-only, and the domestic flight lands 5 minutes by buggy from the villa: no seaplane, no speedboat.
Above all, guests remember the staff: in the latest 500 Google reviews with text, 91% of those who mention them are positive, and Alita’s waiters are named one by one. 2 things are worth knowing before booking. The villas have been taking guests since 2017, and between December 2025 and January 2026, 2 failures at the power plant forced the resort to move its guests to other islands. On 12 October 2026 Google showed $545 to $988 a night for 2 between October 2026 and January 2027; the domestic flight is extra.
In the Lumina Guide
Lumina Guide 2027
On Kooddoo the domestic flight lands 5 minutes by buggy from the villa and the reef begins under the deck: an adults-only island of 68 villas where guests swim among blacktip sharks, turtles and rays.
Among Mercure Kooddoo’s regulars, 4 put the staff before everything else, and 2, each back a year after a first stay, write that the staff remembered them. Those back after 5 years and after 2, in reviews of April and March 2026, found the island as they had left it. And 2 guests back after 3 years, in a review of August 2026, advise asking exactly what the all-inclusive covers before paying for it.

Our reading, point by point
What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.
Location
The reef under the villas and the airport on the island; in return, the deep south, a paid flight and the odd noisy boat.
Character
A quiet island of 68 adults-only villas, with staff whom guests name one by one.
Rooms
7 categories, 62 to 82 m² where the resort says, 4 with a pool and 3 with a glass floor; every one with direct access to the lagoon.
Food and social life
Alita’s buffet with themed dinners, Vista over the water, shut on Mondays, the pool bar; no published hours.
Wellness
Suvadiva Spa in the garden, massages and couples’ rituals; no sauna or steam room described, the price list only as a PDF.
The stay as a whole
Google: $370 to $988 a night for 2, read on 12 October 2026; plus $700 a head for the domestic flight.
What makes it rare
A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.
Here: Suvadiva Spa sits among palms, ferns and banana trees: Asian and European massages, scrubs and couples’ rituals; sunrise yoga is at The Nest, in a quiet corner of the island.
187 of the 192 guests who write about the spa are pleased. 28 hotels of 335 hold it.
What do Mercure Kooddoo’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.
Location
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write about the reef right off the villas, with blacktip sharks, turtles and rays, and the airport a few minutes away by buggy; the planes, they say, are barely heard.
Room
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write about the space in the villas, the glass floor over the sea, the outdoor tub and the steps down into the lagoon.
Staff and service
9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. The reviews keep returning to Alita’s waiters, who remember each guest’s habits, to a host reachable on WhatsApp and to the island’s doctor.
Breakfast
What guests describe at breakfast is Alita’s buffet, with eggs and pancakes cooked to order; the floating breakfast in the pool is extra.
Price
5 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. Guests content with the bill describe a resort that costs less than others in the Maldives; the domestic flight, $700 a head, and what the all-inclusive leaves out are paid for on top.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 11 July 2022 to 1 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
Price: for two on the night of 27 May 2027, from $370 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).
What a night costs, season by season
On 12 October 2026 Google showed nights for 2 at $545 on 40 of the 72 nights to 23 December, at $824 to $988 from 24 December to 11 January, and at $500 or less from 16 April 2027 for as long as the calendar ran. I would look at May, which the resort counts as a shoulder month between its dry season and its rains: $370 to $455 a night.

The lowest price Google Hotels showed for the hotel for that night in a search for 2 adults, read on 12 October 2026; the calendar ran to 7 September 2027 and gave no price for 11 nights, 30 December among them. Booked as 7 nights from 16 November 2026, the lowest seller Google listed that day asked $513 a night; the resort’s own listing, $532.
Mercure Kooddoo, The Residence Falhumaafushi or Ayada
Mercure Kooddoo for adults who want the villa 5 minutes by buggy from the airport; The Residence Falhumaafushi, 7 minutes by boat from that airport, for an overwater spa, a kilometre-long bridge to a second island and a club for children of 3 to 12. Ayada, in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, for pool villas, a reef round the island and surf a boat ride away, with families among its guests and a speedboat after the flight.
A night: the lowest price in the week of 16 November 2026, in a search for 2 adults, read on Google on 12 October 2026; transfers are return fares from Malé, Mercure’s from its website and the other 2 from their Booking.com listings, read in October 2026.
What to expect
The table, wellbeing and the reef, beyond the villa.
Alita, on the lagoon, serves every meal as a buffet, with a different themed dinner each night, from seafood to Maldivian and Sri Lankan; upstairs there are pool, darts and karaoke. Vista, over the water, cooks Pan-Mediterranean food and has nets slung above the sea.
The resort offers instructor-led ashtanga, hatha and sunset yoga, pranayama, meditation and sound healing; The Nest, in a quiet corner of the island, is where sunrise yoga happens. Suvadiva Spa sits among palms, ferns and banana plants, with Asian and European massages, scrubs and couples’ rituals.
The water villas stand on 2 jetties over the lagoon, with the reef dropping away towards the channel. Guests swim it from their villa steps among blacktip and nurse sharks, turtles and rays; the dive centre goes to the atoll’s sites and out by boat to see dolphins.
Good to know before you book
The domestic flight from Malé costs $700 a head return, and the journey from the international airport takes 4 hours on average, up to 8. The private seaplane is $19,000 each way according to the website; Booking.com says per person, return.
Between December 2025 and January 2026 the resort closed twice for a few days after failures at its power plant, moving guests to Pullman Maamutaa, SO/ Maldives or Malé. The website says nothing of it; reviews from February to October 2026 describe ordinary stays.
The all-inclusive leaves out premium labels and freshly squeezed juices; guests in 2025 and 2026 add snacks between meals, the clear-bottomed kayak at $70, and a minibar of 2 beers and 4 soft drinks, restocked once a day.
The resort is adults-only: Expedia gives a minimum age of 18 and Booking.com takes no children. Google Hotels’ listing, which says children up to 11 stay free, is wrong.
The villas have been taking guests since 2017. Between November 2025 and March 2026, 6 Google reviews describe furniture in the villas that shows its use, cracked tiles or plumbing and pump failures; one from April 2026 writes that the resort does not show its years.
Between November 2025 and April 2026, 4 Google reviews describe the jet skis out of action, broken down or under maintenance.

A day at Mercure Kooddoo
At sunrise
Yoga at The Nest
Sunrise yoga looks over the ocean from a quiet corner of the island; a morning session of yoga or stretching comes with the all-inclusive.
The morning
Swim out to the drop
From the water villas the steps go down into the lagoon; since 2020, 5 guests write of the edge where the reef falls away, which one puts about 30 metres off the villas.
At lunch
A table at Vista
The restaurant over the water serves lunch and dinner and closes on Mondays. In February 2026 one guest found it very quiet at lunch; 3 others, between 2022 and 2025, write that it needs booking.
The afternoon
A lesson with the chefs
The kitchen grows vegetables, herbs and spices in its Chef’s Garden; between 2022 and 2026, 4 guests write of the chefs’ cooking classes or demonstrations and 2 of tours of the garden.
At sunset
Out to look for dolphins
In 2026 the all-inclusive gives each guest one sunset cruise on stays of 7 nights or more; between 2023 and 2025, 4 guests write of dolphins seen on a sunset cruise, and another warns that on the dolphin cruise they are not always seen.
After dinner
The glass floor, lit
3 of the water-villa categories have a glass floor, and the Overwater Sunset Villa’s is illuminated; in April 2023 one guest saw an octopus under the floor of their villa, and in July 2025 another found it better than the television.
Mercure Kooddoo reviews
The platforms’ scores, read on 3 October 2026, and what guests write about the reef, the staff and the all-inclusive.
On 3 October 2026 Google showed 4.7/5 from 960 ratings, 760 of them with text, from 29 January 2017 to 1 October 2026. We read in full the 128 reviews published since 2 June 2025: they are accounts of stays we have not verified.
In September 2026 newly-weds from Madrid describe a water villa without a pool, roomier than they expected, an ever-present host and the barmen at the pool bar. They had feared the planes: in 7 days they heard 2 or 3, and minded none.
In August 2026 an all-inclusive couple call the reef the best of their trip: turtles, rays, sharks and coral, in warm clear water reached from the villa’s steps. They had pictured it as the trip of a lifetime; now they write that they will be back.
Back after 3 years, 2 guests found a tighter all-inclusive in August 2026: 2 beers and 4 soft drinks in the minibar, snacks between meals charged, the clear kayak at $70. They praise the bar staff, who warned them before every charge.
In January 2026, at the end of 4 nights, a couple describe every guest being moved after fresh electrical trouble, some to the Pullman on the next island, others flown to Malé. They spent the day packing and waiting; the resort asked them to sign away refunds.
In April 2026 a couple returning after 5 years found it as it was, without the air of a place grown old: calm, unhurried, a place to switch off without boredom. They still count it among the best-value resorts in the Maldives.
In February 2026 a guest describes the spot, some 30 metres off the villas, where the reef drops into the channel, with octopus, turtles and sharks. They list free yoga, sound baths, chef’s garden tours and cooking lessons, and a takeaway breakfast made at 5am for the early flight.
The questions people ask before booking Mercure Kooddoo, answered from sources read between 3 and 12 October 2026.
What kind of resort is Mercure Maldives Kooddoo?
A 4-star Accor resort for adults only, with 68 villas on an island in Gaafu Alifu Atoll that also holds Kooddoo’s domestic airport; the official website calls it a boutique resort between jungle and lagoon. Booking.com counts 69 villas in 6 categories instead, 43 over the water and 25 on the beach, and Expedia 69 rooms. The website gives no opening year: the first Google reviews date from January 2017, and the head chef says on Alita’s page that he joined in 2017. Guests have described it as adults-only since at least 2023.
Which villas can you choose, and how big are they?
7 categories, all with a queen bed. On the beach, 20 Beach Villas with no pool and the 82 m² Beach Pool Villas, with a private pool. Over the water, the Overwater Villa and the Overwater Sunset Villa at 62 m², with no pool, and the 81 m² Overwater Sunset Pool Villa; the Overwater Sunrise Pool Villa and the Overwater Reef Pool Villa have a pool, a glass floor and reef access, but the villas page gives no floor area for them.
The official villas page, read on 15 October 2026, lists only these 7 categories, with no villa of 2 or more bedrooms.
Beach villa or water villa?
It depends on the sea you want. The water villas have steps into the lagoon and, in the Sunset and the last 2 pool categories, a glass floor over the fish; the Reef Pool and Sunrise Pool are the ones the resort describes with direct reef access. The beach villas sit among the greenery a few steps from the sand, and the Beach Pool has a pool screened from its neighbours. A guest in March 2026 writes that passing boats can be heard from the water villas; another, in April, recommends a pool for choppy days.
Where is it, and how quiet is it?
On Kooddoo island in the southern Maldives: Gaafu Alifu Atoll is the northern half of Huvadhoo, which the location page calls one of the largest coral atolls in the world, and has 11 inhabited islands and around 9,300 people. The island also holds the domestic airport, under a kilometre away by Google’s account. The planes hardly intrude: in September 2026 a couple heard 2 or 3 in a week, and in April another was not bothered by the runway. Evenings, in Tripadvisor’s summary of its reviews, are very quiet.
How do you get there, and what does the domestic flight cost?
By a 55-minute Maldivian flight from Malé to Kooddoo airport, at $700 per person return, then 5 minutes by buggy to the villa. Staff meet guests at Velana, take them to the domestic lounge and check them in; the journey takes 4 hours on average and can reach 8. The private seaplane costs $19,000 each way according to the «Location & Access» page; Booking.com gives the same figure per person, return, and asks for flight details 14 days ahead.
Google Hotels speaks of a 65-minute flight: the website says 55. In September 2025 a guest paid for excess baggage in Malé, and in December 2025 a couple who landed at 11am caught the Kooddoo flight at 3.30pm.
Can you drive there or park?
No: Kooddoo is an island, reached by air from Malé airport or by private seaplane. The website does not mention parking, and the Google Hotels listing marks it as unavailable.
What is the beach like, and how do you get into the sea?
According to the villas page, every villa has direct access to the lagoon: the beach villas a few steps from the sand, the water villas by steps from the deck. In reviews from 2025 and 2026 guests describe pale sand and clear water, and snorkelling straight from the beach or the villa.
Is there a house reef you can swim to?
Yes. The website speaks of a lagoon for snorkelling and diving with turtles and dolphins, and the Overwater Reef Pool and Sunrise Pool Villas step straight down onto the house reef. In February 2026 a guest describes the ledge where the reef drops into the channel, some 30 metres off the villas; others, in 2025 and 2026, swim among blacktip and nurse sharks, turtles, rays and morays. The all-inclusive adds, from 7 nights, a guided trip on the house reef.
The dive centre, which Booking.com and Expedia describe as PADI 5-star, asks for a licence and insurance.
Which pools are there?
A shared 40-metre pool by the pool bar, on the lagoon, according to the spa page; Expedia says 50 metres. 4 of the 7 categories have a private pool: the Beach Pool Villa and the 3 water villas with «Pool» in their name. Google lists the pool as adults-only and no hot tub.
Are the pools heated, and when are they open?
No source we read mentions heating, temperature or pool hours. The pool bar serves cocktails and snacks beside the shared pool, which a couple found spotless in June 2026.
Where do you eat?
At Alita, the main restaurant on the lagoon, a buffet from breakfast to dinner with a themed dinner every night; at Vista, over the water, with Pan-Mediterranean dishes at lunch and dinner except on Mondays; at the pool bar, with sandwiches, burgers, salads and wings; and in the villa, round the clock. The resort also offers a floating breakfast in the pool and a private dinner on the beach, with lobster in season. The website publishes no hours.
Booking.com calls Vista an Italian restaurant. Guests praise Alita’s buffet above all; Vista takes reservations, and on busy nights it pays to ask early.
What do half board and all-inclusive include?
The website sells 3 plans. Bed & Breakfast includes the buffet breakfast at Alita. Half board adds dinner at Alita or Vista, mask and fins and non-motorised watersports. The 2026 all-inclusive, valid from 1 January to 31 December, covers meals at Alita, lunch and dinner at Vista except on Mondays, house spirits, cocktails, beers and soft drinks at the pool bar, a minibar restocked once a day, an hour a day of paddleboard or kayak, tennis, yoga, sound healing and 20% off excursions; from 7 nights, a sunset cruise and a reef trip. Premium labels and freshly squeezed juices are charged.
Guests in 2025 and 2026 add more exclusions: snacks between meals, the «add-on» pages of the bar menu, the clear kayak at $70. Booking.com also mentions a full-board plan the website does not sell.
What does the spa offer?
Suvadiva Spa sits among palms, ferns and banana plants: massages blending Asian and European traditions, in a treatment room or the garden, wraps and scrubs with French and Maldivian cosmetics, and couples’ rituals. The same page also says it uses only Asian products. It describes no sauna, steam room, floor area or number of treatment rooms; in August 2026 a guest mentions treatment huts in the greenery. Next door are the gym, open 24 hours, and the 40-metre pool.
The Google Hotels listing marks the spa as unavailable: the resort has one, and names it on several pages.
Is the spa included in the rate, and can outside guests use it?
No, treatments are paid for. The 2026 all-inclusive gives, from 7 nights, 30 extra minutes on a booked massage, once per person, excluding facials and beauty treatments; the Resort Experience page adds 15% off a 60-minute treatment booked before arrival, not combinable. The website publishes no day pass for anyone not staying on the island, and describes the spa only for the resort’s guests; in 2023 a guest mentions a 50% voucher on massages.
What are the spa’s opening hours?
The website publishes no spa hours: treatments are booked on arrival, say the all-inclusive conditions. The gym is open 24 hours a day.
Which treatments does the spa offer, and at what price?
Signature massages, wraps, scrubs and couples’ rituals; Expedia and Booking.com add facials and hydrotherapy. The menu with prices is a PDF linked from the spa page, which we have not read, and no price appears on the pages. In October 2023 a guest found the spa reasonably priced compared with other resorts.
Can you bring children?
No: the website presents Mercure Kooddoo as an adults-only resort, Expedia gives a minimum age of 18, with no extra beds or cots, and Booking.com says children are not allowed. The Google Hotels listing, which speaks of children up to 11 staying free, is wrong.
Can you bring pets?
No. Booking.com and the Google Hotels listing rule them out, and Expedia excludes service animals too.
Is there Wi-Fi? And meeting rooms?
Wi-Fi is free in the villas and public areas, and the Alita Lounge has a computer workstation open 24 hours, described on the experiences page. No meeting rooms are described; Google lists a business centre.
Is it better to book direct or through a portal?
On 6 October 2026, for the night of 7 October, Google showed the same price, $603, on the website and on Agoda, Trip.com, Hotels.com and the other portals. The website adds early-booking discounts of 10% to 30% depending on notice and length of stay, and members of Accor’s ALL programme get up to 10% off. Whichever way you book, the all-inclusive leaves out premium labels and freshly squeezed juices.
What offers are there?
Read on 3 October 2026: the All-Inclusive Offer, valid throughout 2026, and Bed & Breakfast, both with an early-booking discount: 7 days ahead, from 10% for up to 4 nights to 25% from 10 nights; 21 days ahead, from 15% to 30%. There is also half board, with no discount stated, and the wedding packages. The page for the 2024 Women’s Day offer is still online, expired.
Can you get married at Mercure Maldives Kooddoo?
Yes, with a ceremony on the beach and a ceremonial certificate; the website does not say it is legally binding. There are 3 packages: Everlasting Promises at $699, Tropical Vows at $999 and Magical Moments at $1,399, plus tax and service, with 10% off for booking ahead. They include a coordinator, the set-up, a flower girl in traditional Maldivian dress, the cake, wine or champagne and a decorated buggy; the 2 dearer ones add a floating breakfast, a romantic beach dinner and spa treatments.
The celebrations page also mentions Maldivian music, a boutique of gowns and suits, photographers and make-up artists. Booking.com lists a bottle of sparkling wine for honeymooners, with at least 4 nights within 3 months of the wedding and the certificate.
Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?
For the 2025 holidays there was, and it was compulsory. Booking.com listed, for stays from 24 to 31 December 2025, the Christmas Eve gala dinner at $175 to $275 a head and the New Year’s Eve dinner from $250 on all-inclusive to $350 on Bed & Breakfast, plus tax and service. For 31 December 2026 the website has published nothing yet.
Can you play golf?
No: the website describes no course or golf package. There is a tennis court, included in the all-inclusive; in 2025 one couple played twice a day, and in February 2026 another advised bringing new balls.
When is it open? Have there been closures?
The resort is open all year: the all-inclusive runs from 1 January to 31 December 2026 and the website announces no closure. Between December 2025 and January 2026, though, guests describe 2 closures of a few days after failures at the power plant, with stays moved to other islands. From February 2026 the reviews describe ordinary stays, the latest on 1 October.
The celebrations page gives the dry season as December to April, May and November as shoulder months, and short-lived rain from June to October.
How much does a night cost?
Google Hotels, read on 12 October 2026, for 2 adults and one night: $545 on 1 November 2026, $548 on 16 November, $573 on 4 December, $828 on 24 December, $895 on 31 December and $988 on 11 January 2027, the dearest night of a calendar that ran to 7 September 2027. There was no price for 30 December. The calendar names no villa and no meal plan.
For the night of 7 October 2026, read the day before on Google’s listing, the website started with the Beach Villa at $603, then the Overwater Villa at $668, the Beach Pool Villa at $861, the Overwater Sunset at $1,054 and the Overwater Sunset Pool at $1,247. The domestic flight comes on top, $700 per person return.
What do the reviews say?
On 3 October 2026 Google gave 4.7/5 from 960 ratings, Tripadvisor 4.8/5 from 1,441 with a Travellers’ Choice 2026, Booking.com 8.8/10 from 45 and Expedia 9.8/10 from 78. In the latest 500 Google reviews with text, from 11 July 2022 to 1 October 2026, the location is praised by 94% of those who mention it, the villas by 92%, the staff and services by 91%. Guests happy with the price describe a resort that costs less than others in the Maldives; others point to exclusions from the all-inclusive and the cost of extras.
The praise goes to the house reef, with its blacktip sharks, turtles and rays, to Alita’s waiters, often named one by one, and to the villas with a glass floor. The reviews also return to what the all-inclusive leaves out, to jet skis out of action between November 2025 and April 2026, to furniture in the villas that shows its use, and to the 2 closures of a few days in the winter of 2025–26.
Which taxes and charges are added?
The website pages we read give no rate for service charge, GST or green tax; the wedding packages and gala dinners are written «++», meaning plus tax and service. Google Hotels’ figures in the Maldives market include them, while Tripadvisor warns that its partners’ rates exclude them. The domestic flight, $700 per person, is extra.
What time are check-in and check-out?
Check-in at 2pm, check-out at noon, as the all-inclusive conditions say; Expedia adds that there is no late-night check-in. Guests on an evening flight wait on the island: in December 2025 a couple describe the all-inclusive ending at noon and the villa to be left at 1pm, for a 4.30pm flight, while in August 2025 a honeymoon couple stayed in their villa until 4pm for a 5pm flight.
What is there to do on the island?
