OBLU Ailafushi suits families, and couples or friends who like an island with company: a kids’ club on several levels, a band or a DJ at the pool bar every night and, from May 2027, nights for 2 from $481. Anyone who wants a reef to swim to or a silent evening will be happier on another island.
Co-founder & CEOMarco Di CesareHe spent weeks comparing hotels and kept finding that the detail deciding the trip was missing from the hotel website. 10 years in marketing technology, 2 of them building with AI.About MarcoHow we write the guideLinkedIn
For two or with friends I would ask for a Water Villa on the sunset side, the 600s in 3 guests’ accounts: since January 2023, 9 of the 10 guests who pick a side pick that one. With children, the Ocean View Family Two Bedroom.
The weeks that cost less
In the calendar read on 12 October 2026 the lowest price, $481 a night, begins on 1 May 2027 and from 18 May holds for 74 nights in a row. From 24 December to 4 January a night costs $1,099, and New Year’s Eve $1,350.
On top of the rate
Nothing for the boat: the Fushi Plan covers the speedboat. A meal at the Copper Pot starts at $55 a person and a 30-minute massage at $50, both before service charge and tax; Only BLU and the boat trips charge too.
Sharks and rays, close in
Go down to the water by the restaurant: since August 2022, 4 guests write of sharks there, small ones for 3 of them, and one says to go at night. In all, 27 write of sharks or rays in the island’s own water.
What OBLU Ailafushi is
OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi is chosen for the formula: a 15-minute speedboat from the airport, included, then an island of 268 rooms and villas where the Fushi Plan covers the buffet, house drinks, the minibar and non-motorised sports. It is built for families and groups of friends: the Kids X Camp on several levels, family rooms with bunk beds, the infinity pool at X360, a cocktail fountain from 6pm and a band or a DJ every night.
The Water Villas are shaped like a dhoni, with steps down into the lagoon; in the family rooms, children have a bunk-bed room and a second bathroom. Near the shore the sea is for swimming and kayaking. Several guests describe a man-made island with wide, clean beaches and, on the bottom near the shore, rocks and dead coral: reef shoes help in the water, and boat trips go in search of sharks, mantas and turtles. The trips cost extra, as do Only BLU, the Copper Pot and the spa.
The extras belong in the budget: a night at $481 to $1,350 on Google Hotels is joined by excursions, Only BLU, the Copper Pot, the spa and premium drinks, all carrying service charge and tax. Anyone after quiet should look across the jetty to Lobigili, the adults-only sister island.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 7 September 2023 to 2 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay near Malé: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.
Price: for two on the night of 1 May 2027, from $481 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).
What a night costs, season by season
On 12 October 2026 Google showed the price for 2 stepping down through the spring of 2027: $751 on most nights from 5 January to 9 April, $571 for the rest of April and, from 1 May, $481 on all but 2 nights. Between 4 and 12 October most nights from November to early April rose by 9%, from $613 to $668 in November, while those from 10 April barely moved: for a winter stay I would not wait for a lower price.

OBLU Ailafushi, Hard Rock or Hudhuranfushi
OBLU Ailafushi for a rate that already carries the buffet and the house drinks; Hard Rock for a pool with a waterslide, clubs for children and teenagers and the restaurants of 3 islands, with the meal plan chosen apart; Hudhuranfushi for an all-inclusive with a surf break along the island. For the sea, Hudhuranfushi’s plan comes with a snorkelling trip every day, equipment included, and Hard Rock lends snorkelling gear, kayaks and pedal boats free of charge.
A horseshoe-shaped room with windows on the reef and set menus of meat, seafood or vegetarian dishes, outside the Fushi Plan. Guests in 2025 report paying $125 to $161 a head; in February 2025 a couple watched several sharks go by during dinner.
Several levels, 9am to 6pm: upstairs a games arcade for older children and teenagers, which charges, downstairs the little ones, with a pool and a lunch buffet. In August 2026 a family from Vienna describes 11 days of the club, Zumba, a foam party and the flyboard.
4 couples’ rooms and 4 singles, a beauty salon and a thermal area looking out to sea: the hot tub, sauna and steam room cost $10 an hour. It opens 9am to 9pm, and massages start at $50 for 30 minutes.
Good to know before you book
The speedboat leaves at set times and gathers several flights: between landing and boarding guests report waits from 10 minutes (July 2025) to about 2 hours (May 2026). Source: 500 Google reviews read, 7 September 2023 to 2 October 2026
The website’s offers, read on 3 October 2026, take a 25% deposit at booking and can be cancelled up to 14 days ahead. Source: coloursofoblu.com
The Fushi Plan covers the buffet, house drinks, the speedboat, the minibar and non-motorised sports; Only BLU, the Copper Pot, the spa, excursions, motorised sports and premium drinks are extra. Snorkelling gear is included for the whole stay, according to the Fushi Plan page, the homepage and both offers on the official site, read on 15 October 2026.
Several guests between 2023 and 2026 describe Ailafushi as a man-made island: wide, clean beaches, with rocks and dead coral on the bottom near the shore. They recommend reef shoes. There are also accounts of fish around the island, but guests seeking more variety should budget for boat trips.
In the evening X360, open until 12.45am, has a band or a DJ, and the pool hosts foam parties: that is the island’s character. Anyone after quiet has Lobigili, the adults-only sister island, across the jetty.
Excursions are charged separately: in 2025 and 2026 guests report $60 to $250 a head depending on the trip, to swim with sharks, mantas or turtles. Service charge and tax add 26–27% to extras, by guests’ reckoning.
The website’s offers take a 25% deposit at booking and can be cancelled up to 14 days ahead. After a cancellation the deposit can take weeks to come back: several guests wrote so on Google between March and June 2026, with the resort pointing to the banks.
Beach and Water Villa bathrooms are semi-open, and in heavy rain, guests wrote in August and October 2025, the floor gets wet. The factsheet gives every room an open-air bathroom; the Ocean View Room page does not list one.

OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi reviews
The platforms’ scores, read on 3 October 2026, and what guests write about the rooms, the sea and the mood.
On 3 October 2026 Google showed 4.5/5 from 1,410 ratings. We collected 900 Google reviews with text, from 19 January 2022 to 2 October 2026; the figures by topic come from the latest 500, 7 September 2023 to 2 October 2026. These are accounts of stays we have not verified.

4 nights in a family room
In September 2026 a family describes 4 nights in a comfortable, roomy family room, children happy at the kids’ club and dinner at Only BLU as the high point of the trip. To them it is an affordable Maldives resort that is worth what it costs.
A family from Vienna spent 11 days on Zumba, volleyball, a foam party, jet skis and the flyboard, with a few rainy mornings. Their Ocean View Family room felt huge, with 2 showers and 2 toilets; their one suggestion was a clothes-drying rack.
In May 2026 a guest called it a solid resort if you know what you are booking: social and convenient, 15 minutes from Malé, but neither luxurious nor calm. The all-inclusive covers meals and basic drinks, while many activities and excursions cost extra.
In February 2026, on a fifth trip to the Maldives, a German guest found a man-made island, without fine sand or palms down to the water, no house reef and few fish. The closeness to the airport, the staff, the spacious rooms and the food redeemed it.
In March 2026 a Spanish couple hoped for a sunset with background music and found a disco and foam parties. They describe a patched floor, too few loungers on their beach, coral and concrete blocks in the water; the staff and the buffet were the saving grace.
In May 2026 a guest waited about 2 hours between landing and the free speedboat leaving. They recommend the Beach Villa, think Only BLU worth the money and found the main bar too loud at night.
A 4-star resort from COLOURS OF OBLU, Atmosphere Core’s brand, on an island in North Malé Atoll: 268 rooms and villas of 4 types, 106 Water Villas, 66 Beach Villas, 48 Ocean View Rooms and 48 Ocean View Family Two Bedrooms, according to the March 2026 factsheet. In Dhivehi «aila» means family and «fushi» island, the same factsheet explains. A jetty joins it to OBLU SELECT Lobigili, the group’s adults-only 5-star: the media page named one general manager for both resorts in 2024, and the sustainability page presents them together, with their Green Globe certification. The website does not say when it opened; the first Google reviews date from January 2022.
What rooms and villas are there, and how big are they?
4 types, all with a king bed. Ocean View Rooms, 42 m², sit in 2-storey buildings with a window seat and a balcony or veranda; Ocean View Family Two Bedrooms, 54 m² on the website, have 2 connecting bedrooms, a children’s room with a bunk bed and 2 bathrooms, for 2 adults and 2 children or 3 adults and 1 child. Beach Villas, 41 m², open on to the sand, with a garden veranda and an outdoor shower; Water Villas, 45 m² and shaped like a dhoni, have a private deck with lagoon access. All but the family rooms take 2 adults and 1 child or 3 adults.
The factsheet gives larger figures: 60 m² for the family rooms, 47 for Beach Villas, 50 for Water Villas; only the Ocean View Room agrees. On 4 October 2026, on the Google Hotels card, the official website asked for a night for 2 with the Fushi Plan $572 for the Ocean View Room, $693 for the Beach Villa, $719 for the family room and $758 for the Water Villa, tax included. None of the 4 types has a private pool.
Where is it, and how quiet is the island?
Ailafushi is an island in North Malé Atoll, 15 minutes by speedboat from Velana airport, according to the Fushi Plan page. The Google listing places it at «North Male Ailafushi Maldives, Malé», the website at «Ailafushi Island, Male' Atoll». Several guests between 2023 and 2026 describe it as a man-made island; in August 2025 one enjoyed watching the planes from the villa.
The island is made for company: a band and a DJ every night at X360, foam parties in the pool, entertainment by day. Music at the bar and by the pool is loud, while the beaches are quieter. The furthest Water Villas are a walk from the restaurant and the bar, and buggies circle the island for those who would sooner ride.
How do you get there from Malé, and what does the speedboat cost?
By the resort’s speedboat, included in the Fushi Plan both ways: the airport team meets guests and walks them to the jetty, and the crossing takes 15 minutes, according to the plan’s page. Boats leave at set times and gather several flights, so there is a wait at the airport between landing and boarding: guests report anything from 10 minutes, in July 2025, to about 2 hours, in May 2026.
The Fushi Plan PDF does not allow outside boats or other companies’ excursions, and in July 2026 a guest was not allowed to arrive by private yacht. Expedia asks for flight details at least 72 hours ahead. For a day in Malé, a guest wrote in August 2026, the boat that runs to the airport costs $70 a head.
Can you arrive by car or park?
No: it is an island, reached only by boat. The Google Hotels card lists free parking and a paid airport shuttle; the resort’s pages do not mention parking, while the speedboat is included in the Fushi Plan.
How do you get into the sea?
From the Beach Villas you step straight on to the sand, and from the Water Villas you climb down the deck steps into the lagoon, as the room pages say; ground-floor Ocean View Rooms are a few steps from the beach. On the bottom near the shore guests find rocks and dead coral, and recommend reef shoes.
The best beach, a guest wrote in March 2025, is the one by the pool.
Is there a reef you can swim to?
The website speaks of a house reef a few steps from the shore and of guided snorkelling at Turtle Reef, Maagiri and Bandos Rock. From the beach, though, guests do not reach one by swimming: in 2026 several wrote that there is no reef off the shore and that seeing fish takes a boat trip, while 27 guests between July 2022 and August 2026 write of sharks or rays in the island’s own water, and in March 2026 a guest described a man-made reef full of anemonefish and nurse sharks on the way to Only BLU.
The coral restoration programme shared with Lobigili had 61 frames and 2,750 fragments by the end of 2025, according to the sustainability page. Seeing more means a paid boat trip: in March 2026 the morning snorkel trip took one guest among turtles and sharks.
What pools are there?
The main pool is X360’s infinity pool, by the bar on the lagoon, with the cocktail fountain and the music; the Kids X Camp has its own for children, according to the factsheet. On the beach a slide ends in the sea, guests in 2026 say, and mornings bring aqua aerobics in the pool. None of the 4 room types has a private pool. With foam parties and disco music it is a lively pool.
Are the pools heated, and when are they open?
The website gives neither heating nor water temperature. In April 2025 a guest gave the pool’s hours as 9am to 7pm; X360 opens from 10am to 12.45am and the Kids X Camp from 9am to 6pm, according to the Fushi Plan page.
Where do you eat, and when?
At Element X, the main restaurant, a buffet: breakfast 7am to 10am, lunch noon to 3pm, dinner 7pm to 10pm, with open kitchens for Western, Eastern and Central dishes, cold starters and pastry, and self-service wine and beer. The Copper Pot, a beach food truck grilling seafood and meat, charges: booked ahead, 7pm to 10pm, closed on Sundays, from $55 a person plus tax and service, with lobster on Wednesdays and Saturdays. So does Only BLU, 6.8 metres underwater, with set menus of meat, seafood or vegetarian dishes. The bars are X360, 10am to 12.45am, and La Promenade, for coffee, pastries and wine from 10.30am to 1am.
Only BLU serves lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Sunday and dinner only on Mondays, as both its page and the Fushi Plan PDF say, read on 15 October 2026. The media page of 2024 presents it as Lobigili’s restaurant, bookable by Ailafushi guests and open to outside diners; in March 2026 a couple placed it on the jetty between the 2 islands. Guests in 2025 paid $125 to $161 a head. Guests praise the buffet’s range, with Indian, Asian and Western counters and chefs cooking in view; after a few days some dishes come round again.
What does the Fushi Plan include, and what not?
The official website’s rates read on Google Hotels on 3 October 2026 already include it, as «FUSHI Plan - with Free Transfers». According to the plan’s page, it covers the speedboat both ways, 3 buffet meals at Element X, unlimited house spirits, beers and wines at X360, the cocktail fountain from 6pm with 10 cocktails and a mocktail of the day, soft drinks at every outlet, a minibar restocked daily with 2 beers, 2 Cokes and 2 Sprites, kayaks, SUPs and paddleboards for 15 minutes a person a day each, the overwater gym, group activities, live music and the Kids X Camp. The plan ends at 11am on departure day.
Only BLU, the Copper Pot, the spa, excursions, motorised sports, premium drinks and the arcade games are extra. Snorkelling gear is included for the whole stay, according to the Fushi Plan page, the homepage and both offers, read on 15 October 2026; a couple in September 2026, on Tripadvisor, describe it as free.
What is the ELE|NA Ayur spa like?
ELE|NA Ayur spreads over 2 floors, and the website calls it one of the largest spas in the Maldives without giving its size. The ground floor has 4 couples’ rooms and 4 singles; upstairs are a beauty salon and a thermal area facing the ocean, with an outdoor hot tub, sauna, steam room, a relaxation lounge and light refreshments. In the garden, Tuesday to Sunday from noon to 3pm, 2 juice bikes let you pedal your own juice. The page also lists massage on the beach, floating sound healing and personal trainers.
Is the spa included, does it cost extra, and can outside guests use it?
It costs extra: the spa is not part of the Fushi Plan, say the factsheet and the plan’s PDF. Even the thermal area has a price: an hour of hot tub, sauna and steam room costs $10, according to the menu. The Stay More, Get More offer gives $100 of credit every 4 nights to spend on the island, on dining and experiences.
No page of the resort publishes a spa day pass for people not staying on the island; the only venue the media page declares open to outside guests is Only BLU.
What are the spa’s hours, and do you need to book?
Every day from 9am to 9pm, according to the ELE|NA Ayur page; the juice bikes Tuesday to Sunday, noon to 3pm. You book at the spa reception and treatments go on the room bill. Cancelling takes 5 hours’ notice for a treatment and 24 for a package, or a 50% fee may apply, and no-shows pay in full, according to the brochure.
Which treatments are there, and what do they cost?
The menu, in US dollars and subject to service charge and tax: Couples Restful Delight, 75 minutes, $180 a couple; Tranquil Escape Retreat, 120 minutes of sound healing, a 60-minute massage, the thermal area and a juice bike, $110; the Maldivian rituals with a warm sand pouch or coconut shells, 75 minutes, $95; the Stress Buster, Balinese, pain-relief and bamboo massages, $50 for 30 minutes and $75 for 60; facials from $55 to $115; a sunburn treatment, 60 minutes, $75. In August 2026 a guest went back more than 5 times and rated every treatment excellent.
Is it good for children?
Yes, it is a family resort. The Kids X Camp, open 9am to 6pm, has several levels: older children and teenagers upstairs, with a games arcade that charges, the little ones downstairs, with a pool and a children’s buffet at lunch, according to the Fushi Plan page. The Ocean View Family Two Bedrooms have a children’s room with a bunk bed and sit close to the club. Only BLU has a children’s menu at lunch; in December 2023 a family wrote that children were not allowed at dinner.
The website publishes neither the club’s ages nor the Fushi Plan price for children; in July 2026 a family paid $89 a night for a 5-year-old, plus Green Tax. Baby cots are available on request, according to the resort’s room pages, read on 15 October 2026; Booking.com’s “not available” is wrong on this point.
What is on the island besides the rooms?
According to the factsheet and its map: the ELE|NA Ayur spa, the overwater gym, the Kids X Camp, a PADI and SSI dive centre and a watersports centre, a futsal court, La Promenade, The Essence OShop, open 9am to 10pm, the clinic, a photo studio and the arrival pavilion. In the rooms, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a safe, tea and coffee and life jackets.
Several guests in 2026 write that the Wi-Fi is slow and at times unstable, which matters to anyone who needs to work. The free photo session includes one picture, with $25 for each of the rest, a guest wrote in May 2026.
What offers are there?
Read on 3 October 2026: Stay More, Get More, with 10% off and $100 of credit every 4 nights, from 4 nights and for every room type except the family rooms; The Getaway, with 20% off, from 4 nights. Both take a 25% deposit at booking and can be cancelled up to 14 days ahead; the pages do not say how long they run. The Book Direct & Save offer was marked as expired.
Can you marry or hold an event at Ailafushi?
None of the official pages read on 3 October 2026 publishes a wedding package or a price: the experiences page lists a «Celebrations of Love» section, and a honeymoon bed decoration is free on request, a guest wrote in April 2025. The resort has handled large groups: in April 2025 one guest brought 150 people for a 50th birthday. Private dinners cost extra.
What happens on New Year’s Eve?
It is part of the festive programme from 22 December 2026 to 9 January 2027, which the experiences page places within the Fushi Plan. On 31 December: cocktails at X360 from 6pm to 7pm, a gala dinner at Element X from 7pm to 10pm, then a band, Bollywood and belly dancing, a fire show, the countdown with fireworks at midnight and a DJ, according to the festive calendar.
The calendar names no supplement; on Google Hotels, read on 12 October 2026, the night of 31 December cost $1,350, against $1,099 for the nights around it. Christmas Eve has its own gala dinner, and on 25 December Santa arrives on Sunset Beach at 11am.
Can you play golf?
No: neither the website nor the factsheet mentions a course or a golf package. On the island there are futsal, beach volleyball, billiards and darts.
When is it open, and when is the best time to go?
The website announces no seasonal closure. On Google Hotels, read on 12 October 2026, 327 of 330 nights between 13 October 2026 and 7 September 2027 had a price; 14 and 19 October and 13 November did not. The festive season runs from 22 December to 9 January, and from 24 December to 4 January every night cost at least $1,099.
Guests describe rain in January, August and September 2026, sometimes only on cloudy mornings.
How much does a night cost?
On Google Hotels, read on 12 October 2026, for 2 adults and one night: $668 on 1 November 2026, $803 on 25 November, $1,099 on 24 December, $1,350 on 31 December and $751 on 7 January 2027. There were no prices for 14 and 19 October or 13 November.
On 3 October 2026 the calendar’s figures included taxes and fees: for 4 October the official website’s link on the same card, an Ocean View Room with the Fushi Plan and transfers, carried a total equal to the price shown, about a quarter of it tax. The calendar does not say which room; excursions, Only BLU, the Copper Pot and the spa are extra.
