Dusit suits families who want a children’s programme, with single-night prices from $738 for 2 adults, the lowest any seller showed on Google. For an adults-only escape, I would choose an island without a kids’ club.

Benjarong from above: the Thai restaurant on stilts over the reef, joined to the beach by a jetty.
  1. The family villa choice

I would ask for the Two Bedrooms Beach Pool Villa: 262 m² in a walled garden, with an outdoor recreation area, a dining pavilion and a private pool, a few steps from the beach.

  2. The weeks that cost less

The calendar read on 12 October 2026 puts each single night from 25 April to 1 May 2027 at $738 for 2 adults; from 26 December 2026 to 8 January 2027 each costs $2,152.

  3. What excursions add up to

Excursion prices carry 10% service and 17% government tax through 30 November 2026. Cancel 23–13 hours before an activity and the charge is 50% of its full price, plus those charges.

  4. Book the children’s classes

At the kids’ club, pizza-making, cupcake decorating and T-shirt painting cost extra and need booking 24 hours ahead; the drop-off programme takes children aged 3 to 12.

What Dusit Thani is

Dusit Thani Maldives is the Thai group Dusit’s resort on Mudhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Booking.com and Tripadvisor count 94 villas and residences; the resort’s own site gives no total but describes 9 types, from the 122 m² Beach Villa to the 690 m² Three Bedrooms Beach Pool Residence, on the beach or over the water, 8 of them with a private pool. The island is thick with palms and you get about by bicycle: there is one per villa.

You come for the sea. The house reef runs right round the island, and guests in 2025 and 2026 describe turtles, sharks, eagle rays and octopus off the villas; Hanifaru Bay, where manta rays and whale sharks gather from May to November, is 10 or 15 minutes away by speedboat, depending on which page of the site you read. For dinner there is The Market, Benjarong for Thai food over the water, Sea Grill by the pool and the plant-based Sala above the lagoon; the Devarana spa has 8 treatment rooms, 6 raised among the palms.

What adds up is everything around the villa. The seaplane is $650 per adult, excursions and dives carry 10% service and 17% tax, and the site does not say what the Pure Indulgence all-inclusive plan covers. In the Google Hotels reading of 6 October 2026, separately searched single nights included $628 on 21 October and $2,343 on 5 January 2027, taxes included. The starting price for a later run of consecutive nights is $738 from 18 April 2027, read on 12 October 2026. The beaches are small and secluded, and at low tide the water in front of the water villas is shallow: the time to swim is high tide.

In the Lumina Guide

Lumina Guide 2027

On Mudhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll, Dusit Thani Maldives has a house reef that rings the whole island: you swim among turtles and reef sharks, and from May to November boats go out to Hanifaru Bay’s manta rays.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests describe the space, the private pools and stepping into the sea from the deck; the water villas, they wrote in 2025 and 2026, have been recently renovated.

The scores come from 435 Google reviews with text, left from 16 September 2013 to 2 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in the Maldives:

What to expect

Benjarong, Thailand over the lagoon

The Thai restaurant sits in a pavilion on stilts over the reef, with antique Thai pieces in its modern interior: lunch from 12 to 3pm, dinner from 7 to 10pm, smart casual. It is the restaurant guests in 2025 and 2026 mention most, for its pad see ew and massaman curry. On 3 January 2027 it hosts the festive Thai street-food market, at $125 per person on bed and breakfast, plus service and tax.

8 treatment rooms, 6 of them raised among the coconut palms, with a hot and cold jacuzzi, a sauna and a steam room; the gym is open 24 hours and the yoga pavilion has a resident instructor. The 90-minute Devarana Signature Massage is $210 and a 60-minute traditional Thai massage $170, plus 10% service and 17% tax. No one under 15 is admitted.

The kids’ club, between the tree house and the reef

The kids’ club takes children aged 3 to 12, from 10am to 1pm and 2 to 6pm, with a tree house, a large outdoor play area and a programme for each day of the week, from crab races to a Dhivehi lesson; pizza-making, cookie decorating and T-shirt painting are charged and booked a day ahead. Babysitting is extra. In August 2026 a family who stayed 8 nights wrote of children who loved the kids’ club and of the big pool with a tree in the middle.

Good to know before you book

  • At low tide, guests wrote in 2025 and 2026, the water in front of the water villas is too shallow to get in: the time to swim is high tide. Source: 435 Google reviews read, 16 September 2013 to 2 October 2026

  • There are 2 ways in, and you pay for both. The seaplane takes 35 minutes from Malé, flies only between 6.30am and 4pm and costs $650 per adult and $550 per child aged 2 to 11; the domestic flight to Dharavandhoo with a 10-minute shared speedboat costs $550 and $450, according to Booking.com’s conditions from 1 May 2025. Anyone landing in the evening takes the domestic flight, which runs until 11.30pm. The allowance is 25 kg checked and 5 kg of hand luggage; hand luggage is weighed too, and anything over is charged as excess.

  • There are 4 meal plans: bed and breakfast, half board, full board and Pure Indulgence, the resort’s all-inclusive. The site does not publish what they cover; guests in 2025 and 2026 describe drinks and every à la carte restaurant included. Festive dinners are charged even on Pure Indulgence: the Wine & Dine on 4 January 2027 is $125 per person, plus service and tax.

  • The reef changes with the tide and with the side of the island. At low tide, guests wrote in 2025 and 2026, the water in front of the water villas is too shallow to get in and you can wade 200 metres before it drops away; current and swell vary from one side of the island to the other, and some stretches are for strong swimmers.

  • Beyond the villa almost everything has a price, plus 10% service and 17% tax: guided snorkelling on the house reef is $50 for 30 minutes, the on-call manta trip to Hanifaru $225 from May to November, a dive $90 and a jet ski $175 for 20 minutes. Mask, fins and snorkel are free, and so is nitrox for certified divers.

  • On the resort’s own site, read on 15 October 2026, Hanifaru Bay is 15 minutes away by speedboat (home page) and the dining is 4 restaurants, The Market, Benjarong, Sea Grill and Sala, plus the Sand Bar (dining); the site does not publish how many villas and residences there are, and mentions no indoor pool.

8 nights with the children

In August 2026 a family found the villas spacious and the big pool, with a tree in the middle, well suited to children. Over 8 nights the adults never ate the same dish twice across the 4 restaurants; the children loved the kids’ club, and the sound bath was complimentary.

The sunset-side villas

In July 2026 a Spanish-speaking guest in a sunset-side water villa found it the most private and furthest from the seaplanes’ noise, but with a poorer reef and choppier sea. They recommended all-inclusive, since the buffet every night grows tiresome, and found the mattress uncomfortable.

Questions before you go

What people ask before booking Dusit Thani Maldives, with the sources read between 3 and 6 October 2026.

What kind of resort is Dusit Thani Maldives?

A resort of the Thai group Dusit Hotels & Resorts on Mudhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll, the Maldives’ first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, as the home page puts it. Booking.com and Tripadvisor count 94 villas and residences, which the site does not number; its villas page describes 9 types on the beach and over the water. Google Hotels rates it 5 stars. The site does not give an opening year; the oldest Google review we collected dates from September 2013.

On its sustainability page the resort reports Level 2 of Dusit’s Tree of Life programme, 21 of 31 criteria, a solar plant producing more than 250,000 kWh a year since 2019 and its own glass-bottling plant for water.

Which villas are there, and how big are they?

9 types, according to the villas page. On the beach: the Beach Villa, Beachfront Pool Villa and Beach Plunge Pool Villa at 122 m², the Two Bedrooms Beach Pool Villa at 262, the Two Bedrooms Beach Pool Residence at 560 and the Three Bedrooms Beach Pool Residence at 690. Over the water: the Waterfront Pool Villa at 150 m², the Overwater Pool Villa at 180 and the Two Bedrooms Overwater Pool Pavilion at 370.

All have a butler from 6am to midnight, a Nespresso machine, an outdoor rain shower and bicycles; 8 types have a private pool, while the Beach Villa’s page mentions none. The site does not publish how many villas there are of each type or how many guests each sleeps.

Where is it, and is the island quiet?

On Mudhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll: 35 minutes by seaplane, or a 25-minute domestic flight to Dharavandhoo and 10 minutes by speedboat, according to the getting here page, which calls it the closest resort to the airport island. Tripadvisor puts it 4.7 miles from Dharavandhoo Airport. One page of the site places Hanifaru Bay 10 minutes away, the home page 15 minutes by speedboat.

The resort has the island to itself and you get around by bicycle: in January 2026 a Japanese guest put the circuit at under 3 km and found it quiet, with few children.

How do you get there from Malé, and what does the transfer cost?

By seaplane, 35 minutes from the terminal at Velana International Airport, landing at the resort, in daylight only, from 6.30am to 4pm; or by a 25-minute Flyme domestic flight to Dharavandhoo and 10 minutes by speedboat, with flights from 6.30am to 11.30pm, according to the getting here page. Evening arrivals and departures need the domestic flight. The resort books the transfer once the stay is confirmed, and has a private lounge in the seaplane terminal.

Booking.com’s conditions, from 1 May 2025, give $650 per adult and $550 per child aged 2 to 11 for the seaplane, and $550 and $450 for the domestic flight and shared speedboat, with 25 kg checked and 5 kg hand luggage; the site calls $650 the standard seaplane price. Neither source says in words whether that is one way or return. In February 2026 a guest paid $500 each for the seaplane, booked through the resort; hand luggage is weighed at check-in too, and anything over the allowance is charged as excess.

Can you drive there, or park?

No: the island is reached only by seaplane or boat, and there are no cars. Every villa has its own bicycles and there is a buggy service, as the home page lists; the paths are sand. Booking.com bans guests from flying drones.

How do you get into the sea?

From the beach villas you step straight onto the sand; from the water villas you enter the lagoon from the deck, and the Waterfront and Overwater Pool Villas have direct reef access, according to the villa pages. The beaches are small and secluded: in December 2025 an Italian guest called theirs «small, deserted», and anyone after a long shore to walk will be happier on a bigger island.

At low tide, guests wrote in 2025 and 2026, the water in front of the water villas is too shallow to get in; swim at high tide and bring reef shoes and a rash vest against coral cuts.

Is there a reef you can swim to?

Yes, all round the island: the site and Booking.com describe a 360-degree house reef. Guided snorkelling is $50 for 30 minutes and night snorkelling $95 for an hour, plus service and tax, according to the excursions price list; the dive centre, a PADI Five Star centre, also runs night dives on the house reef.

In 2025 and 2026 guests describe turtles, reef and nurse sharks, eagle rays, octopus and dolphins off the villas. Between the dive centre and Sala, in February 2026, a guest found current and swell: it is a stretch for strong swimmers.

Can you see the manta rays at Hanifaru Bay?

Yes, from May to November, when manta rays and whale sharks gather to feed at Hanifaru Bay, according to the experiences page. The Manta-On-Call service alerts guests when the mantas arrive: the price list charges $225 per person for 90 minutes, including the marine park fee, plus service and tax, while the offer page says $200 net. The on-call whale shark trip is $250.

Guests in 2025 and 2026 call the manta trip the best moment of their holiday. Sightings follow the season: in November 2025, its last month, a Korean guest saw a single manta in 2 weeks.

What pools are there?

The main infinity pool, which the resort calls one of the largest in the Maldives, with Sea Grill and Sand Bar on its edge, according to the dining page; the site does not publish its dimensions. 8 of the 9 villa types have a private pool. Guests in 2026 describe the main pool as large, with a tree in the middle, and good for families.

The home page lists only outdoor pools, the private ones and the main pool; Google Hotels also lists an indoor pool, which no page of the resort mentions.

Are the pools heated, and when are they open?

The site publishes neither the main pool’s hours nor whether it is heated. The kids’ club calendar takes children to the Splash Park from 5 to 6pm on some days of the week, and in December the resort holds its pool party on the 27th, from 4 to 6pm.

Where can you eat, and until when?

4 restaurants and a bar, according to the dining page. The Market serves breakfast from 7 to 10.30am and dinner, buffet or à la carte, from 7 to 10pm. Benjarong, the Thai restaurant over the water, opens from noon to 3pm and from 7 to 10pm. Sea Grill, grilled fish and meat by the pool, and Sala, plant-based cooking above the lagoon, open from noon to 10pm; Sala is closed on Fridays. Sand Bar sits beside the infinity pool, and in-villa dining takes orders from 6am to 11pm. None of the restaurants is underwater: Benjarong and Sala stand on stilts above the lagoon.

Booking.com lists 3 restaurants and 2 bars instead. Guests in 2025 and 2026 praise the Thai and the plant-based cooking; for dinner at Benjarong and the other à la carte restaurants, guests wrote in 2023 and 2025, you book the table ahead.

Which meal plans are there, and what do they include?

4, as the festive programme shows by pricing its dinners for each: bed and breakfast, half board, full board and Pure Indulgence, the all-inclusive. The Together in Maldives offer also separates bed-and-breakfast bookings from all-inclusive ones. The site does not publish what each plan covers or what it costs.

Guests fill in the rest: in December 2025 an Italian guest on all-inclusive had every drink and every à la carte restaurant, Sea Grill and Benjarong included; in May 2026 a couple confirmed all the restaurants; in November 2025 a Korean guest was charged for the minibar. According to Booking.com, up to 2 children under 12 per villa eat free on their parents’ plan, alcohol excluded.

What is the spa like?

Devarana Wellness has 8 treatment rooms, 6 of them raised among the coconut palms, a hot and cold jacuzzi, a sauna and a steam room, according to the home page; there is also a 24-hour gym, a yoga pavilion with a resident instructor and a spa boutique. Booking.com speaks of 6 tree-top pods. The size is not published.

The spa page offers Thai massages, rituals such as the Nantha Garden, programmes lasting several hours and classes of yoga, qigong and meditation from $80. In September 2025 a French guest likened it to a luxury Jurassic Park.

Is the spa included, is there a fee, and can outside guests use it?

Treatments are charged, plus 10% service and 17% tax, according to the spa page. The site does not say whether the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are included in the stay; in November 2025 a Korean guest wrote that other reviews said the hot and cold jacuzzi is free once a day, and went once; the Couples Retreat package includes use of the facilities and hydrotherapy. No one under 15 is admitted.

No page of the resort publishes a day pass for anyone not staying on the island, which is reached only by seaplane or boat: the spa’s offers are addressed to resort guests and booked through the butler.

What are the spa’s hours?

From 10am to 9pm, according to the spa page in German, read on 3 October 2026; the English page prints no hours. The gym is open 24 hours.
