Komandoo suits couples and honeymooners who want an island without children and a house reef a few metres off the beach, from $748 a night for 2 adults, the lowest price any seller showed on Google for one night; the resort’s own listing showed $1,051 for 7 October 2026, read on 6 October. Anyone after a private pool may prefer elsewhere: no villa has one.

Like a regular

A couple in wicker armchairs on the Kandu Bar deck, in the shade of the palms, with the lagoon behind.
  1. The villa to ask for

I would ask for a Premium Jacuzzi Beach Villa for quiet and an easy reef: 71 m² on the sunrise beach, away from the main facilities, where the house reef is shallow and gently sloping.

  2. The weeks that cost less

Read on 12 October 2026, the calendar shows 7 nights from $748 to $790 for 14–20 December 2026. The dearest week, 28 January to 3 February 2027, runs from $1,351 to $1,740 a night.

  3. On top of the rate

The seaplane is not in the villa rate: Booking.com lists $400 per adult, round trip, from 14 September 2026. Luggage above 20 kilos checked and 5 in the cabin costs $5 a kilo, subject to 17% GST.

  4. The free photo shoot

Every guest is offered a free 30-minute photo shoot with Pix Maldives, the resort’s photographers; it has to be reserved ahead, so I would book it early in the stay.

What Komandoo is

Komandoo opened in 1998 on an island 500 metres long and 200 wide, about 10 hectares, in Lhaviyani Atoll, and it is the only resort on it. It admits adults only, from 18. Its 65 villas come in 5 types, 3 on the beach and 2 on stilts over the lagoon, from 55 to 88 m²; every one has a four-poster king bed, and 4 of the 5 a 2-person jacuzzi. Crown & Champa Resorts runs it, with its sister islands Kuredu and Hurawalhi in the same atoll.

The days turn on the sea and the table. The fringing reef starts a few metres off the beach, beyond the lagoon, and a hawksbill turtle can be seen there almost every time, the resort writes; from November to March mantas gather at nearby Fushivaru. Falhu, the buffet with a sand floor, changes theme every night, and Aqua serves à la carte dinners on stilts over the water. Of the 265 Google reviews with text, 95% of those discussing the location are positive, and 95% of those discussing the staff and services.

It pays to read the meal plan before booking. The all-inclusive plan pours house drinks by the glass and gives one dinner at Aqua every 5 nights, while diving, excursions and private dinners are paid on top. No villa has a private pool, and anyone who wants one will be happier elsewhere; the website prints no spa prices.

Komandoo is a 10-hectare adults-only island, open since 1998 in Lhaviyani Atoll, where couples come back year after year for the reef a few metres off the beach, Falhu’s sand-floored buffet and the staff.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Komandoo’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write of the reef off the beach, the turtles they meet there and the quiet of a small island without children.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write of the jacuzzi, the beach at the villa door and housekeeping twice a day.

  3. Staff and service

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests write of the waiter who looks after a couple for the whole stay, of the housekeeping and of the dive centre.

  4. Breakfast

Breakfast is Falhu’s buffet, from 8 to 10.30am, on the sand floor or on the deck over the lagoon.

  5. Price

The all-inclusive covers Falhu’s 3 buffets, with a different theme each night, house drinks and the minibar; diving and excursions are paid on top.

The scores come from 265 Google reviews with text, left from 19 September 2012 to 2 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Lhaviyani Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Lhaviyani Atoll:

Komandoo, Hurawalhi or Atmosphere Kanifushi

Hurawalhi, Komandoo’s sister island in the same atoll, is also adults-only, reached by the same seaplane, and has an undersea restaurant. Atmosphere Kanifushi, also in Lhaviyani, sells a broad all-inclusive plan on a long beach, for couples who accept a larger island with children.

What to expect

Aqua over the lagoon, Falhu on the sand

Falhu, the main restaurant at the island's western end, serves 3 buffets a day on a sand floor, with 6 live-cooking stations and a different theme every night, from Maldivian to seafood. Aqua, on stilts over the lagoon on the sunset side, serves à la carte surf and turf from 7 to 10pm, barefoot; tables are few, and the website advises booking soon after arrival.

Thai, Indian and Balinese therapists work with chemical-free organic products and Asian techniques: Balinese, Thai and Oriental massage, a ritual with island coconut and couples' treatments with champagne. The spa page gives 8am to 10pm, with a $25 surcharge outside those hours; the menu online, from 2022, says 10am to 8pm and prints no prices.

The reef a few strokes from the beach

Baby blacktip sharks, stingrays and hawksbill turtles live in the lagoon, and the fringing reef begins a few metres beyond it, with branching, brain and table corals, morays and eagle rays. In May 2026 a guest swam with 3 turtles on the sunrise side, the calmer one, and watched eagle rays pass the pool at about 5.30pm.

Good to know before you book

  • The seaplane is extra and flies in daylight only. The official page sends you to the booking engine for its price; Booking.com, read on 3 October 2026, gives $400 per adult return from 14 September 2026. Anyone landing in Malé too late for the last flight, usually about 4pm, sleeps in Malé at their own expense.

  • All-Inclusive Plus covers the 3 buffets at Falhu, house drinks poured one glass at a time and the minibar, but only one dinner at Aqua every 5 nights, with 20% off the rest of its menu. Diving, excursions, room service, private dinners and 5.8 Undersea are paid on top, and everyone in the villa must be on the same plan.

  • Adults only, strictly: the fact sheet admits guests from 18, Booking.com sets 18 as the minimum check-in age, and there are no cots or extra beds. Guests describe a quiet island, with live music, a DJ some nights and a weekly Maldivian cultural evening at Kandu Bar.

  • No villa has its own pool: 4 of the 5 types have a 2-person jacuzzi, and the shared freshwater infinity pool is beside Kandu Bar. From the water villas the main restaurant and the pool are a 6-minute walk, as the resort itself writes.

  • The north-east monsoon, from November to April, brings the clearest skies, and the manta season runs from November to March; from May to October the weather is less settled. The side of the island matters, for the wind and the sea, and it is worth choosing with the season in mind: in May and August 2026, 2 guests found the sunrise side calmer and more sheltered.

Questions before you go

What people ask before booking Komandoo, with answers from sources read between 3 and 6 October 2026.

What kind of resort is Komandoo?

A 5-star resort, as Google Hotels lists it, run by Crown & Champa Resorts and the only one on the island of Komandoo, in Lhaviyani Atoll. The official 2026 fact sheet counts 65 villas on an island 500 metres long and 200 wide, about 10 hectares, and admits adults only, from 18; the resort opened in 1998, according to its 25th anniversary article.

Its sister islands are Kuredu, larger and open to families, and Hurawalhi, home of the 5.8 Undersea Restaurant. In 2024 the Travel Trade Maldives awards named Komandoo the best adults-only resort, as its awards page records.

Which villas are there and how big are they?

5 types, according to the villa pages and the fact sheet. On the beach: Beach Villa, 55 m²; Jacuzzi Beach Villa, 71 m², with a 2-person jacuzzi and a daybed on the deck; Premium Jacuzzi Beach Villa, 71 m², on the sunrise beach. Over the water: Jacuzzi Water Villa, 88 m², with steps into the sea; Ocean Jacuzzi Water Villa, 88 m², with a catamaran net on the deck. All take up to 3 adults; the website does not say how many of the 65 villas belong to each type.

Every villa has a four-poster king bed, a wooden floor, air conditioning and a ceiling fan, a minibar and wine fridge, a Nespresso machine, a Bluetooth soundbar, a rain shower and Wi-Fi; Booking.com, on 3 October 2026, lists a queen bed in every type. None has a private pool.

Where is it, and is the island quiet?

In the north of Lhaviyani Atoll, 40 minutes by seaplane from Malé, according to the official transfer page; the Google listing gives only «Lhaviyani Atoll, Maldives Islands». Kuredu and Hurawalhi, its sister islands, are in the same atoll, and the Fushivaru marine reserve, known for its mantas, is nearby.

Guests describe it as a very quiet island: no children, and evenings of live music, a film or a DJ at Kandu Bar. The water sports page offers non-motorised sports on the island and a wider range on request; the fact sheet lists jet-skis, water-skiing and parasailing, and the festive programme a jet ski at $210 for an hour.

How do you get there from Malé, and what does the seaplane cost?

By seaplane, about 40 minutes from Velana airport with Trans Maldivian Airways, according to the official transfer page. It is not included in the villa rate, and the website gives its price only in the booking engine; Booking.com shows $400 per adult return from 14 September 2026, and a private chartered domestic flight at $9,500.

Seaplanes fly in daylight, between about 6am and 6pm, and the last one to Komandoo usually leaves by about 4pm: anyone landing later sleeps in Malé at their own cost. The allowance is 20 kg checked and 5 kg hand luggage per person, with $5 for each extra kilo plus 17% GST. In May 2026 one guest's seaplane landed at Kuredu, and a speedboat covered the last stretch.

Can you arrive by car or park?

No: Komandoo is an island reached by seaplane, with sandy paths and no roads, and guests walk it barefoot. The Google Hotels card lists «Parking» among its amenities, but no page of the resort mentions a car park, and there is nowhere to drive.

How do you get into the sea?

From the beach, which runs for a kilometre around the island according to the fact sheet, straight in front of the beach villas; the water villas have steps from the deck down into the lagoon. The lagoon is a nursery for baby sharks and stingrays, as the resort's 2022 article puts it.

Guests in 2026 recommend the east side, the sunrise one, as calmer and more sheltered from the wind; a guest in December 2025 advises choosing the side by season. Kayaks and windsurf boards are on the all-inclusive plan.

Is there a house reef you can swim to?

Yes. The resort’s April 2025 article puts the fringing reef a few metres from the beach, beyond the lagoon, with branching, brain and table corals, parrotfish, morays and spotted eagle rays; a 2019 article says a hawksbill turtle can be spotted there almost every time. In front of the Premium Jacuzzi Beach Villas the reef is shallow and gently sloping.

Snorkel gear is rented at the Prodivers centre, according to the snorkelling page, and the all-inclusive plan includes only a half-hour group lesson, equipment not included. Fins are a must and nobody should snorkel alone; from November to March mantas gather at nearby Fushivaru.

What pools are there?

One shared pool: the freshwater infinity pool overlooking the beach, beside Kandu Bar, according to the fact sheet and the bars page. No villa has its own pool; 4 of the 5 types have a 2-person jacuzzi, outdoors on the beach villas' patio and inside the Ocean Jacuzzi Water Villas.

Is the pool heated, and when is it open?

The website gives neither a temperature nor opening hours for the infinity pool. The sustainability report says hot water is solar-heated in every villa except the water villas; in May 2026 a guest found the pool very warm, and saw eagle rays pass it at about 5.30pm every day.

Where can you eat, and until when?

According to the dining page and the fact sheet: Falhu, the buffet with a sand floor, 150 seats inside and 75 outside, breakfast 8 to 10.30am, lunch 1 to 2.30pm and dinner 7.30 to 9.30pm, with a different theme each night; Aqua, à la carte over the lagoon on the sunset side, dinner 7 to 10pm; Kandu Bar by the pool, with snacks, and Thundi Bar on the beach. In-villa dining is available.

The destination dining list adds a jungle dinner, a 5-course Veli Dinner on the sand, beach barbecues, a monthly full-moon dinner and breakfast in the sea, none of them in any meal plan; 5.8 Undersea Restaurant, at Hurawalhi a few minutes away, seats 20 and is also extra. Swimwear is not allowed in the restaurants, and men cover their shoulders.

What meal plans are there, and what do they include?

On 7 October 2026 the official website sold 2 plans on Google Hotels: full board at $1,051 a night for 2, and All-Inclusive Plus at $1,335. The All-Inclusive Plus brochure for winter 2025–2026 and summer 2026 covers the 3 buffets at Falhu, afternoon tea from 3 to 6pm at Kandu Bar, house wines, draught beer, house spirits and cocktails by the glass, the minibar refilled once a day, half a bottle of champagne per stay, a sunset cruise, a group snorkelling lesson and a windsurfing one, kayaks and the gym.

At Aqua it gives one dinner for every 5 nights and 20% off the rest of the menu, and 20% off selected spa treatments in the first 2 days. These are the terms of the plan document that the resort’s all-inclusive page offers for download, valid for winter 2025–2026 and summer 2026 and read on 15 October 2026. Room service, excursions, diving, premium drinks and fresh juices are extra, and everyone in the room must be on the plan.

What is the spa like?

Duniye Spa takes a natural approach, with Thai, Indian and Balinese therapists, chemical-free organic products and Asian massage techniques. The website gives no floor area, number of rooms or list of zones, and no official page mentions a sauna, a steam room or a hydrotherapy pool; Booking.com lists a spa lounge and relaxation area, and Expedia couples' rooms.

The menu, from 2022, runs from massages (Balinese, Thai, Oriental, aromatherapy, deep-tissue) to organic facials, Reiki, a sound bath with singing bowls and rituals for 2 such as Full Moon Magic, 135 minutes; there is also a beauty corner for hair, make-up and nails.

Is the spa included, is there a fee, and can outside guests use it?

Treatments are paid for. The menu says its prices include GST, 17% since 1 July 2025 (MIRA, read on 15 October 2026), and a 10% service charge, but prints none of them; All-Inclusive Plus guests get 20% off selected treatments taken in their first 2 days, and the festive programme sells a 105-minute couples' ritual at $400.

No page publishes a day pass or spa access for anyone not staying, and the island is reached only by seaplane or boat. Treatments are booked on arrival or in the Komandoo app, or bought in advance as packages in the resort's online gift shop.

What are the spa's opening hours?

The spa page gives 8am to 10pm, with treatments outside those hours at a $25 surcharge; the menu published in 2022 says 10am to 8pm. Shower first and arrive 15 minutes early; cancelling within 6 hours costs 50%, and a no-show the full price.

Which treatments are offered, and at what price?

From the menu: Balinese, aromatherapy, Oriental, Thai, signature and deep-tissue massages of 60 or 90 minutes, reflexology, an Indian head massage, the Maldivian Serenity Ritual with island coconut, the Him & Her couples' treatment of 75 minutes, Reiki, lymphatic drainage, a sound bath and Skin Fit organic facials.

The menu prints no prices. The published ones are seasonal: in the festive programme for 2026–2027 the Festive Luminous Serenity ritual for 2, 105 minutes, costs $400, and on 28 December treatments are 35% off from 10am to 1pm.

Can you bring children?

No: Komandoo admits guests from 18, according to the fact sheet and the adults-only page, and Booking.com sets 18 as the minimum check-in age, with no cots or extra beds. There is no kids' club.

The resort writes for honeymooners, couples, friends and solo travellers. For a family, Kuredu, its sister island in the same atoll, takes children.

What is on the island besides the villas?

According to the fact sheet: the Prodivers dive centre, PADI 5-star, with more than 50 dive sites; the water sports centre; a gym open from 6am to 8pm; a floodlit court for badminton, volleyball and football, and table tennis; the infinity pool, Duniye Spa, the Velaa boutique and Pix Maldives, whose photographers give every guest a free 30-minute shoot, booked ahead. Wi-Fi is free across the island except in the restaurants.

Excursions, on the excursions page: a full day on the yacht Britt, big-game and night fishing, the Atoll Marine Centre and Naifaru with its turtle sanctuary; in the festive programme big-game fishing costs $415 and the day's sailing $165 a head. The fact sheet has reception open 24 hours, Expedia from 6am to midnight; Google and Expedia list tennis, which the fact sheet does not.

What offers are there?

Read on 6 October 2026: the 2026 offer, 25% off the 4 jacuzzi villa types for stays from 1 October to 26 December 2026, bookable until 30 November, with prices «from US$ 398» for a Beach Villa on full board, taxes and fees included; the 2027 offer, 20% off from 6 January to 27 March 2027 and 30% from 28 March to 31 October 2027, on every villa, full board or All-Inclusive Plus, bookable until 30 November 2026.

Both apply to the room rate only, with free cancellation until 3 days before arrival. Honeymooners get a fruit basket, sparkling wine and flowers on the bed once during the stay, according to the honeymoon page.

Can you get married at Komandoo?

Yes, in a symbolic ceremony on the beach, as the weddings page calls it: a bouquet, hair and make-up for the bride, bodu beru drummers, the rings on a shell cushion, a 2-tier cake, a certificate and a wooden plaque. The wedding brochure on the site, from 2018, prices the package at $880; the dinner on the beach and the next day's champagne breakfast are extra.

The website gives no capacity for events and does not say whether a legally binding marriage can be held; the resort has a wedding coordinator, and the page gives the island's adults-only rule as the reason couples choose it.

Is there a New Year's Eve dinner?

Yes. The festive programme runs from 23 December 2026 to 1 January 2027; on 31 December it has a cocktail reception on the beach from 6.30pm, the gala buffet dinner with live music at Falhu from 8 to 10pm, a DJ and fire juggling on the Kandu deck and the countdown at 11.55pm. The brochure gives no price for the gala and does not say it is compulsory, and Booking.com, on 3 October 2026, lists no supplement for it.

Christmas Eve has its own gala dinner at Falhu from 8pm, after a cocktail reception with carols; extras such as the Wine & Dine dinner on the beach, $425 per couple, are paid for.

Can you play golf?

Not on Komandoo. The excursions page offers a trip to the sister island of Kuredu, with a driving range, a 6-hole par-3 course and a putting green; it publishes no golf package or green fee.

When is it open, and when is the best season?
