Sangeli suits couples and families who want the holiday paid for before it starts: the Serenity Plan covers the boat, meals, drinks and the minibar; One Banyan, the smaller island, is kept for adults until sunset; and from May 2027 nights for 2 start at $828. Anyone set on a long natural beach, or on an island with no children on it, will be happier elsewhere.

  1. The villa to ask for

For two, the Honeymoon SELECT Ocean Villa; I would ask too about a Water Villa with Pool, on the lagoon side of the walkway on the resort’s map: 4 guests since 2020 write of its sunset. With children, the 2 Bedroom Beach Pool Suite.

  2. The weeks that cost less

Read on 12 October 2026, the calendar’s lowest price, $828 a night for 2, begins on 1 May 2027 and holds on all 129 nights to 6 September, the calendar’s last night. The dearest, at $1,813: 25 and 31 December, 1 January.

  3. On top of the rate

Nothing for the boat: the Serenity Plan covers it on arrival and on departure. A late check-out, when the villa is free, costs extra. On the spa menu of 21 June 2026 a 50-minute Balinese massage costs $110, exclusive of government taxes and service charges.

  4. The week, already booked

Since June 2019, 15 guests write of a schedule the resort drew up for them: 4 say a booking can be moved, 5 found restaurant tables already booked and 4 the excursions. Read it on the first day: 2 guests write of dinners at 9pm.

What Sangeli is

OBLU SELECT Sangeli is one of the COLOURS OF OBLU resorts run by Atmosphere Core, on the island once called Akirifushi at the north-western tip of North Malé Atoll. A wooden boardwalk lined with water villas joins it to One Banyan, the islet kept for adults from sunrise to sunset, with its own pool, bar, the spa and the 2 speciality restaurants. The March 2026 fact sheet counts 137 villas: 39 Beach Villas, 14 with a pool, 45 Water Villas, 26 with a pool, 7 two-bedroom suites and 6 honeymoon villas.

The reason to choose it is the Serenity Plan, the only way to stay: the speedboat both ways, buffet meals at The Courtyard, unlimited spirits, wines and 16 cocktails, a minibar restocked daily, masks, fins, kayaks and paddleboards, a sunset fishing trip and a guided snorkelling trip or moonlight cruise for each guest. Dinners at Just Grill and JustWok and a 45-minute spa treatment depend on the nights booked. In 2026, 3 guests told of the house reef off the main beach: one found the coral 4 to 5 metres from the sand in front of the main bar, another snorkelled in front of the restaurant.

Sangeli is chosen for the plan and for the reef. The sand is partly man-made and changes from one stretch to the next. The farthest villas are reached on foot or by buggy, which can take 10 to 20 minutes to come, and Wi-Fi comes and goes away from the main areas. On Google Hotels, read on 12 October 2026, a night for 2 ranged from $828, the price of every night from 1 May 2027 to the calendar’s last night, 6 September, to $1,813 on 25 December, 31 December and 1 January.

In the Lumina Guide

Lumina Guide 2027

Sangeli spreads over 2 islands in North Malé Atoll, one kept for adults by day: you arrive by speedboat, the reef starts a few metres off the main beach and the Serenity Plan covers meals, drinks and the minibar.

How we choose the hotels

Those who come back

Among Sangeli’s regulars, 7 of the 11 praise the staff; one, writing in February 2022 after a first stay in December 2019, found that the staff remembered them from the first. 3 write of the snorkelling and 2 call the plan good value. A guest back for a second time with friends, writing in January 2024, gives the reason for returning: the whole package, the review says, is hard to beat. They notice what changes: a guest on a second stay within the year, writing in December 2022, found the food improved, and a family at their third Christmas running, writing in January 2026, call the gala dinners of Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the best yet. And 2 single out JustWok among the restaurants.

  • 11 of the 835 reviews with text are by returning guests
  • For 9 of them it is the second time
  • One family writes of a third Christmas running

The 5 things that matter look at the 500 most recent reviews; here, all 835 with text; for 2 of the 11 the return is stated in the resort’s reply to the review.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 19 October 2022 to 27 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in North Malé Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in North Malé Atoll:

Price: for two on the night of 1 May 2027, from $828 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).

What a night costs, season by season

Between 5 and 12 October, 51 of the 53 nights from 1 November to 23 December rose and none from 20 March to 29 August moved: for a winter stay I would not wait for a lower price.

Good to know before you book

  • The beach is not the same all round. On the main beach the sand is soft, the way into the water is easy and the reef starts a few metres out; between September 2024 and May 2026, 4 Google reviews describe narrow stretches or an artificial beach.

  • The speciality dinners at Just Grill and JustWok depend on the nights booked and are reserved ahead. Honeymoon villas booked for 3 nights or more may dine in all 3 restaurants.

  • One Banyan, its pool and its bar are for adults from sunrise to sunset; under-16s may eat at Just Grill and JustWok only at dinner, and the spa takes guests aged 18 and over.

  • Wi-Fi is free; between April 2024 and May 2026, 5 Google reviews describe it as weak or unstable. Over the same period 7 reviews tell of waits for a buggy, from 10 to 30 minutes where the guest gives a time.

  • The Serenity Plan ends at 11am on the day you leave: anyone staying on the island longer pays for whatever they order after that.

Questions before you go

What people ask before booking OBLU SELECT Sangeli, with sources read between 3 and 12 October 2026.

What kind of resort is OBLU SELECT Sangeli?

A 5-star all-inclusive resort in North Malé Atoll, one of the COLOURS OF OBLU collection of Atmosphere Core, as the fact sheet of March 2026 says. It counts 137 villas in 6 categories, one all-day restaurant, 2 speciality restaurants, 3 bars, 2 pools, one for adults only, a dive and water sports centre, the spa, a gym, a kids' club and a tennis court; in 2025 Green Globe gave it Gold status for 5 years of continuous certification.

The island was called Akirifushi, from the Dhivehi words for coral and island, according to the resort's Green Book, which puts the original island at about 0.8 hectares with little vegetation; in May 2026 one guest called it largely man-made. The home page lists a World Travel Awards nomination for the Indian Ocean's leading new resort in 2012 and a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice award in 2026.

Which villas are there and how big are they?

6 types, according to the villa pages and the fact sheet. On the beach: Beach Villa, 39, at 81 m²; Beach Villa with Pool, 14, at 101 m² with a 13 m² pool; the 2 Bedroom Beach Pool Suite, 7, at 152 m² with a 13 m² pool. Over the lagoon: Water Villa, 45, at 78 m²; Water Villa with Pool, 26, at 88 m²; the Honeymoon SELECT Ocean Villa, 6, at 102 m² with a 13 m² pool, for couples only.

The website's «total area» figures are larger: 271 m² for the Beach Villa, 263 m² with a pool, 397 m² for the suite, 77 m² and 89 m² for the water villas and 145 m² for the honeymoon villa. Every villa has a king bed, round in the honeymoon villas, an open-air or sea-view bathroom, an espresso machine and a minibar restocked daily; Booking.com says there are no extra beds and cots are free for under-2s.

Where is it, and is the island quiet?

On Sangeli, at the north-western tip of North Malé Atoll, 50 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport, as the fact sheet says; the contact page gives Sangeli Island, North Malé Atoll. A wooden boardwalk lined with water villas joins it to One Banyan, the smaller island kept for adults from sunrise to sunset.

Guests in 2026 often call it peaceful and never crowded, though a guest in July 2026 put its capacity at more than 300 people, and the plan lists live music 6 days a week, a weekly DJ night and a weekly pool party.

How do you get there from Malé, and what does the transfer cost?

By speedboat, 50 minutes from Velana International Airport, included both ways in the Serenity Plan: the resort's team meets you at the airport and walks you to the jetty, and chilled water and cold towels are served on board, as the plan page and its brochure say; the resort publishes no seaplane transfer.

Expedia asks for flight details at least 7 days before departure. Guests in 2026 timed about 55 minutes in an air-conditioned boat.

Can you drive there or park?

No: Sangeli is reached only by boat and has no cars. Google Hotels lists parking, an error for an island. Guests walk the paths or call a buggy through reception, which can take 10 to 20 minutes to come; the honeymoon villas have a dedicated buggy, according to the fact sheet.

How do you get into the sea?

The beach villas and suites open straight onto the sand, as the villa pages say, and the water villas have steps from the deck into the lagoon. In September 2026 a guest who stayed a month found soft sand almost everywhere and easy swimming from the shore.

The sand is not the same everywhere: some stretches are narrow and man-made, and snorkellers go in from the main beach, where the reef starts a few metres out. Outside boats and excursions by outside companies are not allowed, the plan states.

Is there a reef you can swim to?

Yes. The website describes a house reef just steps from the shore, and guests confirm it: in March 2026 one found the coral beginning 4 to 5 metres from the beach in front of the main bar, with a small shark, and in September 2026 another snorkelled the reef in front of the restaurant straight from the main beach. Masks and fins are on the plan for the whole stay.

Guests in 2026 saw turtles, rays, sharks and mantas, some from their water villas. The media centre says the Muraka project, begun in January 2019, grows coral for the reef and streams it to the villas from an underwater camera.

What pools are there?

2, according to the fact sheet: the main pool beside The Sangs bar and the adults-only pool on One Banyan, an infinity pool with cabanas. Expedia adds a children’s pool and a water slide.

Private pools measure 13 m² in the Beach Villas with Pool, the 2-bedroom suites and the honeymoon villas, the fact sheet says; the water villas with pools have infinity pools whose size no source gives.

Are the pools heated, and when are they open?

No source says whether the pools are heated, and the website publishes no pool hours. One Banyan is for adults from sunrise to sunset and its bar opens from 9am to 6pm; in May 2026, 2 guests wrote that the main pool, open until 7pm in the resort's app, was cleared at 6pm to be treated. The villa pools are private and always open to their guests.

Where do you eat, and until when?

According to the dining page: The Courtyard, the international buffet, serves breakfast from 7am, lunch from 12.30pm to 3pm and dinner from 7pm to 10pm, with live stations, a grill and theme nights; on Fridays it holds the Indian Ocean Gala Dinner and the other restaurants close. On One Banyan, Just Grill, for seafood and meat, and JustWok, Pan-Asian, open from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and from 7pm to 10.30pm by reservation; under-16s may eat there only at dinner.

The bars are The Sangs by the main pool, from 9am to 1am, The Rock on stilts in the lagoon, from 5pm to 7pm, and One Banyan's pool bar, from 9am to 6pm with lunch from 1pm. Hedhikaa, Maldivian snacks, comes out at The Sangs from 4pm to 6pm. Booking.com still lists a vegetarian restaurant, Simply Veg, that the website no longer names; there is no underwater restaurant.

What does the Serenity Plan include?

It is the only plan sold: the speedboat both ways, buffet meals at The Courtyard, unlimited premium spirits, wines, sparkling wine and beers, 16 cocktails and 8 mocktails, a minibar of alcoholic and soft drinks and snacks restocked daily, the gym, tennis, yoga and pilates, masks and fins, kayaks and paddleboards, the kids' club, and one sunset fishing trip and one guided snorkelling trip or full-moon cruise for each guest, according to the plan of July 2026.

How many meals at Just Grill or JustWok the plan covers depends on the nights booked. Each adult has a 45-minute spa treatment from the fourth night. The plan ends at 11am on the day you leave.

What is the spa like?

ELE|NA Ayur stands on One Banyan Island, with 6 double treatment rooms, a yoga pavilion and a steam room, according to the fact sheet; the spa page adds an ice bath for contrast therapy and rooms opening onto the garden and the lagoon. The treatments draw on Ayurveda and Maldivian traditions, with warm sand bundles, coconut shells and hot stones.

No official source lists a sauna, though Booking.com, Expedia and Google Hotels do. Treatments are for guests aged 18 and over.

Is the spa included, is there a charge, and can outside guests use it?

On the Serenity Plan each adult aged 18 or over has one 45-minute treatment for 4 to 7 nights, 2 for 8 to 11, 3 for 12 to 15 and 4 for 16 to 19, plus one for every 4 further nights, chosen from a facial, a jet-lag neck and shoulder massage, a tan accelerator and a stretch, as the plan and the spa menu say. Below 4 nights there is none, and other treatments are charged.

No page publishes a day pass for anyone not staying on the island, and the plan allows no outside boats or excursions by outside companies. Honeymoon villas booked for 4 nights or more add a couples' massage, according to the fact sheet.

What are the spa's hours?

Every day from 9am to 9pm, the spa page says. The spa menu asks you to arrive 15 minutes early and to cancel 5 hours ahead for a treatment and 24 for a package, or pay 50%, and 100% for a no-show; treatments are charged to the villa.

Which treatments are offered, and at what price?

According to the June 2026 spa menu: a 50-minute Swedish, Balinese, bamboo or jet-lag massage costs $110, or $140 for 75 minutes; the Maldivian sand-bundle, coconut-shell, hot-stone, sports and Yogayaam massages $120, or $150. The Kan'duge ritual is $200 a person for 90 minutes, $360 for a couple, and the Tranquil Escape Retreat for 2, with steam, ice bath and sound healing, $400 for 120 minutes.

A 30-minute ice bath and steam session costs $50 a person, and 15 more minutes on a plan treatment $35. Prices exclude government taxes and service charges, which are added to the bill.

Is it good for children?

Yes: the kids' club runs daily activities, sessions with the resort's marine biologist and festive programmes for children up to 5 and from 6 to 12, according to the plan, the experiences page and the festive calendar. Expedia lists a children's pool, a water slide and supervised childcare at a charge; in January 2026 a family paid for one-to-one care for a child under 4.

On Booking.com children of all ages are welcome, those 12 and over pay as adults, cots are free for under-2s and there are no extra beds. One Banyan, its pool and the spa are for adults, and under-16s may eat at Just Grill and JustWok only at dinner.
