Thudufushi suits an unhurried beach holiday with guided reef snorkelling included in the all-inclusive, and single nights for 2 from $527, the lowest seller price shown on Google. For a holiday spent driving between towns and restaurants, I would choose somewhere on the mainland.

For a private stretch of beach, I would ask for a Sandbank Junior Suite: a separate living room and a large veranda facing the sunset give you somewhere to linger beyond the bedroom.
The weeks that cost less
In the calendar read on 12 October 2026, each night from 1 to 7 May 2027 was $527 when searched separately for 2 adults; the dearest night shown, 2 January 2027, was $2,491.
Budget for the seaplane
From 1 November 2026 to 15 April 2027, the return seaplane costs $590 per adult aged 12 or over; dinners at Kakuni require a reservation and are charged separately.
Reserve your Maakana table
Water-villa guests need to reserve a table at Maakana, even though the buffet restaurant welcomes everyone; vegetarian and vegan dishes are available there on request as well.
What Thudufushi is
Thudufushi is a small island on the south-western rim of Ari Atoll, and the resort is the only thing on it. It belongs to Diamonds Resorts, the luxury brand of Planhotel, a Swiss group founded in Lugano in 1997, which also runs Athuruga, 20 minutes away by speedboat. The 2024 fact sheet lists 69 rooms of 7 types: 4 on the beach, among the palms, and 3 on stilts along a jetty that curls into the lagoon, including 7 Jacuzzi Water Villas and 2 two-bedroom villas with a pool.
Days revolve around the sea. The reef starts a few strokes off the beach, and snorkellers report blacktip reef sharks, turtles and eagle rays; in the South Ari Marine Protected Area whale sharks can be seen all year, the resort says, and manta rays have their cleaning spots close to the island. Marine biologists from the resort’s lab, run with the University of Milano-Bicocca, take guests out on the reef. Of the 270 Google reviews with text, 99% of those that mention the location are positive, and 91% of those about the staff and service.
On top of the villa, the bill includes the seaplane, which comes with the stay only when you book 6 nights or more on the official site: Booking.com lists $560 per adult return until 31 October 2026 and $590 from 1 November. The all-inclusive leaves out champagne and premium spirits, dinners at Kakuni and Farivalhu, excursions and diving. Water-villa guests dine at Aqua on the all-inclusive; beach guests pay for it. The free Wi-Fi is slow in the rooms: anyone who has to work buys the fast package, about $50.

The scores come from 270 Google reviews with text, left from 17 January 2014 to 3 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in South Ari Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Thudufushi, LUX* or Vilamendhoo
LUX* South Ari Atoll is an alternative for whale-shark outings, with an evening arrival route by domestic flight and speedboat. Vilamendhoo suits anyone who wants the 3 daily buffet meals and taxes included in its official rates, then chooses whether to add the all-inclusive package.
Maakana, on the south side of the island by the beach, serves 3 buffets a day for 150 diners, with pasta, pizza and the catch of the day on the grill; on Fridays dinner is Maldivian, under the stars. Aqua, on stilts on the west side, serves an à la carte menu that mixes Europe and Asia: it is on the all-inclusive for water-villa guests, and bookable at extra cost for everyone else.
A spa on stilts, its treatment rooms looking out over the water: the therapists combine Ayurveda, European aromatherapy and South-East Asian remedies, using herbs, oils, spices and flowers. Treatments can be booked online, between 9am and 7pm; the site publishes no prices, size or zones.
The reef sits in the shelter of the atoll’s outer edge, says the iDive centre, a PADI Gold Palm resort with free Nitrox and 40 Scubapro sets. Whale sharks can be seen all year in the South Ari Marine Protected Area: in June 2026 one couple swam with a juvenile, along with manta rays, hawksbill turtles and blacktip reef sharks.
Good to know before you book
Diving is charged separately even on the all-inclusive, and is always guided by the iDive centre. Source: 270 Google reviews read, 17 January 2014 to 3 October 2026
The seaplane flies only in daylight, roughly 7am to 4pm, and costs extra: Booking.com, read on 3 October 2026, lists $560 per adult return until 31 October 2026 and $590 from 1 November. It is included when you book 6 nights or more on the official site.
The all-inclusive covers 3 meals, wine, beer, cocktails and soft drinks, a minibar restocked daily, canoes, windsurfers and snorkelling gear with a guided reef tour. Champagne and premium spirits cost extra, as do dinners at Kakuni and Farivalhu.
Water-villa guests get Aqua on the all-inclusive; beach guests pay for it. A buggy runs water-villa guests along the jetty to the island.
The Wi-Fi is free but slow in the rooms and barely there in the restaurants and bars, several guests wrote in 2025 and 2026; the fast package costs about $50. The all-inclusive, the site says, brings Wi-Fi to reception and the water villas.

Diamonds Thudufushi reviews
The platforms’ scores, read on 3 October 2026, and what guests say about the reef, the food and the villas.
On 3 October 2026 Google showed 4.8/5 from 446 ratings. The figures by theme come from all 270 reviews with text, January 2014 to October 2026, 53 of them written since January 2025: 241 give 5 stars, and many thank waiters, guides and biologists by name. The honeymoon and dinner over the water
In September 2026 a honeymoon couple wrote their review on the boat home, in tears: every meal a celebration, and dinner over the lagoon at sunset, with waiters who had worked out within a day how they liked things.
In September 2026 a solo traveller on an all-inclusive package found the Beach Front Villa older than the pictures suggested, the Wi-Fi close to unusable and the buffet the only restaurant included. The resort offered a water villa for the rest of the stay.
In July 2026 a couple recommend splitting the stay between a water villa and a beach villa, and call the food the best hotel food they have had. In their beach villa, though, the mattress smelt, and a complaint about the manta excursion was brushed aside.
In June 2026 a couple of keen snorkellers swam with a juvenile whale shark, several manta rays, hawksbill turtles and blacktip reef sharks. In an all-inclusive water villa, they loved Aqua’s Italian cooking and found the chefs careful with a severe gluten allergy.
In May 2026 a couple in a Beach Junior Suite saw sharks, turtles, mantas, dolphins and 2 whale sharks on the snorkelling trips, and used the kayaks and paddle boards for free. The room Wi-Fi ran at 1 Mbps, and the $50 fast package was only just acceptable.
In December 2025 a diving couple found a quiet island, lovely service and food worthy of a top chef, but learnt that independent diving is not allowed: dives are sold as guided trips, at prices they thought steep.
The questions people ask before booking Diamonds Thudufushi, answered from sources read between 3 and 6 October 2026.
What kind of resort is Diamonds Thudufushi?
A 5-star resort, as Google Hotels and Tripadvisor class it, run by Diamonds Resorts, the brand of the Swiss group Planhotel, founded in Lugano in 1997, and the only resort on the island of Thudufushi in South Ari Atoll. The 2024 fact sheet lists 69 rooms across beach villas, suites and water villas; Tripadvisor gives 70. All-inclusive is the house style, and the cooking has an Italian accent.
Its sister island is Diamonds Athuruga, 20 minutes away by speedboat according to the official price list. In 2020 the World Travel Awards named it Maldives’ Leading Beach Resort, as the awards page records, and Travelife awarded it Gold certification, valid from 15 November 2024 to 15 November 2026.
Which villas and suites are there?
7 types, according to the official pages. On the beach: the Beach Front Villa, with a veranda and an open-air shower; the Sandbank Junior Suite, on a secluded sandbank, with a living room; the Beach Front Junior Suite, facing the shallow lagoon; the Beach Suite, with a private beach in front. Over the water: the One Bedroom Water Villa, with steps into the sea; the Jacuzzi Water Villa, 7 in all, with a private hydromassage tub; the Two Bedroom Pool Water Villa, 2 at the end of the jetty, with 2 bedrooms and a pool.
The site publishes no sizes, nor how many beach villas there are of each type. The water villas have a four-poster bed, a sofa bed, a walk-in wardrobe and an iMac for music and films, and every room is cleaned twice a day. Booking.com and Google also sell a «Beach Experience Villa» that the official site does not mention.
Where is Thudufushi, and is the island quiet?
On the south-western rim of Ari Atoll, 25–30 minutes by seaplane from Malé according to the official page; the Google listing places it at Thudufushi, 20190. Google Hotels says the resort is less than a kilometre from «busy» Maamingili: Tripadvisor puts Maamigili’s airport 23 miles away, about 37km, and there is nothing on Thudufushi but the resort.
Guests describe a calm island you can walk round in a quarter of an hour, with few children even though it is not adults-only; the fact sheet promises live music before lunch and dinner. Many guests, and some of the staff, speak Italian.
How do you get there from Malé, and what does the seaplane cost?
By seaplane, 25–30 minutes from Malé International Airport with Trans Maldivian Airways, according to the transfer page. It costs extra: Booking.com, read on 3 October 2026, lists $560 per adult return from 16 April to 31 October 2026 and $590 from 1 November 2026 to 15 April 2027, half price under 12 and free under 2. Book 6 nights or more on the official site and the seaplane is included, under the Stay Longer offer.
Flights run from sunrise to sunset, roughly 7am to 4pm according to the site and 7am to 3.30pm according to Booking.com: the resort tries to match them to your international flight, but the airline sets the time and confirms it on arrival in Malé. The allowance is 20kg in the hold and 5kg hand luggage per person, then $5 a kilo plus taxes; the speedboat price list from 2017 charges $1,320 per boat to Malé, a 150-minute trip.
Can you arrive by car or park?
No: Thudufushi is an island reached only by seaplane or boat, with no roads, and Google Hotels lists parking as unavailable. You get about barefoot, and a buggy takes water-villa guests along the jetty, guests wrote in 2025.
How do you get into the sea?
From the white-sand beach that rings the island, in front of the beach villas, with a gentle slope into the water that guests like; from the water villas, steps lead down from the deck into the lagoon, as the villa page says. One Tripadvisor reviewer recommends the sand spit as the best place to enter the reef.
Canoes, windsurfers, kayaks and paddle boards are on the island.
Is there a house reef you can swim to?
Yes. The dive centre says the reef, sheltered by the atoll’s outer edge, is rich, colourful and easy to reach for snorkellers too; guests find it a few strokes from the beach, with blacktip reef sharks, turtles, eagle rays and moray eels. Since 2015 the coral conservation project has placed more than 300 guest-adopted coral frames on the reef, and since 2024 more than 1,000 Reef Stars.
The all-inclusive provides snorkelling gear and a guided reef tour. The reef’s turtles have names, and a guest who photographs a new one can name it, says the turtle page; night snorkelling on the reef is not allowed, a July 2026 guest points out.
Is there a pool?
There is no shared pool on the island: no official page describes one, and Google Hotels marks it as absent. The only pools are the private ones of the 2 Two Bedroom Pool Water Villas at the end of the jetty, and the 7 Jacuzzi Water Villas have a hydromassage tub; Tripadvisor lists a «private pool» among the amenities.
Is the pool heated, and when is it open?
With no shared pool, the site publishes no temperatures or hours. The pools of the 2 Two Bedroom Pool Water Villas sit on each villa’s terrace, and no page gives their temperature; for swimming, guests describe the lagoon and the reef off the beach.
Where can you eat, and when?

The official photographs also show a teppanyaki counter, and the booking form lists a «Thila Japanese Restaurant». Veli Beach Bar is open from 10am to midnight, with light lunches from noon, and Aqua Over Water Bar from 6 to 11pm. With Dining with the Stars, chefs from the Jeunes Restaurateurs cook gala dinners: in the 2025–2026 season 8 took turns, from 21 December 2025 to 13 April 2026, about 2 weeks each.

For water-villa guests it also covers Aqua, the à la carte restaurant; beach guests pay for it and book ahead, as the Aqua page says. Champagne and premium spirits, Kakuni, Farivalhu, excursions and diving are extra.
What is the spa like?
Serena Spa stands over the lagoon, its treatment rooms looking out to sea; the official photographs show one with a glass panel in the floor. Its therapists combine Ayurveda, European aromatherapy and South-East Asian remedies, with herbs, oils, spices and flowers.
The site gives no size, number of treatment rooms or zones, and no official page mentions a sauna, steam room or pool; Booking.com lists a relaxation area and couples’ massages. For exercise there are a gym, yoga and Pilates, according to the activities page.
Is the spa included, does it cost extra, and can outside guests use it?
Treatments cost extra: the all-inclusive, which the site lists item by item, does not include the spa. The wedding package includes a couples’ massage, and the honeymoon page offers one as an extra.
No page publishes a day pass for anyone not staying on the island, which can only be reached by seaplane or boat. Treatments can also be booked online, through the form on the spa page.
What are the spa’s opening hours?
The booking form on the spa page offers appointments from 9am to 7pm, every half hour, and the site publishes no other hours. Confirmation comes by email, and changes or cancellations go to the spa’s address.
Which treatments are offered, and at what price?
The spa page describes massages and treatments that blend Ayurveda, European aromatherapy and Asian remedies, and asks you to choose from the treatment menu, which is not published: no official page read on 6 October 2026 gives names or prices. Booking.com lists full-body, back, neck and couples’ massages, and spa packages.
Can you bring children?
Yes, although the island stays quiet and children, guests write, are few. The official guest services include cots and high chairs on request, and in the water villas children under 8 may stay only with a disclaimer signed by a parent. Booking.com accepts children of all ages, charges them as adults from 12 and prices an extra bed at 40% a night up to 11, with a free cot.

The package includes flowers in the room, a bottle of wine and fruit on arrival, the ceremony at an altar decorated in local style, a sunset boat trip with canapés, a couples’ massage and a 5-course lobster dinner with Prosecco.

Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?
In the 2025–2026 season the resort celebrated with Dining with the Stars: from 21 December 2025 to 5 January 2026 a chef from the Jeunes Restaurateurs cooked the gala dinners, the first of 8 until April. The programme for New Year 2026 had not been published by 6 October 2026.
On Google Hotels, read the same day, the nights from 25 December 2026 to 1 January 2027 had no price, and 2 January 2027 was the dearest night in the calendar. The official pages mention no compulsory dinner or festive supplement.
