What Coco Palm is

Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu belongs to the Coco Collection, which also runs Coco Bodu Hithi, and sits on an island 660 metres by 220 in the south of Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Its 98 villas come in 6 types, according to the official 2026 fact sheet: 84 on the beach, set back in the greenery, and 14 over the water along a jetty shaped like a palm leaf; 44 have a private pool.

Nature is the reason to come. The island houses the Olive Ridley Project’s sea turtle rescue centre, the first in the Maldives run by a vet, open to guests every day; the house reef lies on one side and a sheltered lagoon on the other, and Hanifaru Bay, with mantas from May to November and whale sharks from August to November, is 20 to 25 minutes by speedboat. Of the 482 Google reviews with text, 91% of those discussing the location are positive.

The rest is a question of style. No television in the villas, no shared pool, rustic villas with thatched roofs and open-air bathrooms: anyone after new finishes and a big pool will be happier elsewhere. 82% of those who mention the staff are pleased. The seaplane is charged separately, and the all-inclusive leaves out the minibar and many bar drinks; on some stretches the beach is protected from erosion by sandbags.

The scores come from 482 Google reviews with text, left from 24 December 2013 to 19 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Baa Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 7 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Questions before you go

What people ask before booking Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, answered from sources read between 3 and 6 October 2026.

What kind of resort is Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu?

A 4-star resort on Google Hotels, part of the Coco Collection, which also runs Coco Bodu Hithi. According to the official 2026 fact sheet it has 98 villas of 6 types on an island 660 metres by 220 in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve; the official introduction calls it an eco resort, named the Maldives’ Leading Green Resort at the World Travel Awards in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The official pages read do not say when it opened or when the villas were last renovated; the Beach Bar menu has a cocktail created for a couple who have come back every year since 2000.

Which villas are there, and how big are they?

6 types, according to the 2026 fact sheet: on the beach, 33 Beach Villas and 21 Sunset Beach Villas of 87 m², with no pool; 20 Deluxe Villas of 87 m² with a small terrace pool; 10 Deluxe Pool Villas of 104 m² with a private pool. Over the water, 12 Lagoon Villas of 87 m² and 2 Sunset Lagoon Villas of 154 m², with a pool, a jacuzzi and steps into the lagoon.

All have a king bed, a minibar and free Wi-Fi, and partly open-air bathrooms; the base rate is for 2 adults, up to 3 adults or 2 adults with a child and an infant. Booking.com also sells Sunrise Beach, Sunset Deluxe Pool and Island Lagoon Villas, which the official site does not list.

Where is it, and is the island quiet?

In the south of Baa Atoll, according to the official page, 30 minutes by seaplane from Malé; the nearest hospital is on Thulhaadhoo, 5 minutes by speedboat, says the FAQ, and a nurse is on the island round the clock. The island is 660 metres by 220: a guest in 2026 walked round it in 30 to 45 minutes.

It is a quiet island with no television in the villas; in the evening there is music at the Beach Bar and Conch Bar. Drones are not allowed.

How do you get there from Malé, and what does the seaplane cost?

By seaplane from Velana airport: 30 minutes according to the contact page and the 2026 fact sheet, 35 according to the FAQ. The site publishes no fare; Booking.com gives the shared flight at $489.06 per adult and $244.53 per child aged 2 to 11 until 4 January 2027, then $617.76 per adult, taxes included, with infants free.

Seaplanes fly from 6am to 3.30pm: your international flight has to land by 3.30pm and leave after 8.50am, otherwise you sleep in Malé. The allowance is 20 kg checked plus 5 kg in the cabin. In August 2026 a family flew 35 minutes out and more than an hour back, with a stop.

Can you drive there or park?

No: Dhuni Kolhu is an island reached by seaplane, as the contact page explains, and there are no roads. The Google Hotels listing includes «Parking» among the amenities, but no resort page mentions one.

How do you get into the sea?

From the beach in front of the villas: the Beach, Sunset Beach and Deluxe Villas each have a private path to the sand, and the Lagoon Villas and Sunset Lagoon Villas direct access to the lagoon. The FAQ puts the reef on one side of the island and a beach with a sheltered lagoon on the other.

Guests describe different entries from villa to villa: the beach shifts with erosion, and on some stretches it is narrow and protected by sandbags.

Is there a house reef you can swim to?

Yes: the FAQ confirms the house reef, and the dive centre lists it among its sites, next to the Dhuni Kolhu lagoon. Guests in 2025 and 2026 place it on the east side, in front of some Beach Villas and the Deluxe Villas, and describe blacktip sharks, rays, turtles and octopus; from the Lagoon Villas you see them from the deck.

The dive centre’s price list rents a mask for $4, a snorkel for $2 and fins for $4 per dive, for scuba divers only, not for snorkelling. For snorkelling, guests describe gear lent free of charge: with the all-inclusive in 2023, from the dive centre in February 2026.

What pools are there?

Private ones only: no official page describes a shared pool, and guests in 2018, 2023 and August 2026 write that there is none. The 20 Deluxe Villas have a small freshwater plunge pool on the terrace, the 10 Deluxe Pool Villas a pool that curves along the beach, the Lagoon Villas a pool sunk into the deck and the Sunset Lagoon Villas a glass-floored pool.

The Google Hotels listing shows an «Outdoor pool» the site does not confirm.

Are the pools heated, and when can you use them?

The site gives no temperature: the villa pages describe private freshwater pools, yours to use whenever you like. The spa’s jacuzzi is free during spa hours, 9am to 7.30pm.

Where do you eat, and until when?

Which meal plans are offered, and what do they include?

3, according to the FAQ. Half board gives buffet breakfast and dinner at Cowrie and a credit of $25 per adult and $19 per child towards dinner at Conch Bar or Cornus; full board adds lunch and $15 per adult towards lunch at Conch Bar. Both cover food only: drinks, in-villa dining and private dinners are charged.

All-inclusive adds tea, coffee, soft drinks, juices, water, draught beer and house wine by the glass with meals at Cowrie, afternoon tea, and the credit at Conch Bar and Cornus, to be booked. The minibar and many bar drinks stay outside it and are charged, as guests in 2025 and 2026 report.

What is the spa like?

Coco Spa sits in the island’s greenery, with 5 treatment rooms inspired by Indonesian, Thai and Ayurvedic techniques, Thalgo’s marine products, a yoga pavilion and a fully equipped gym. The spa menu gives free use of the jacuzzi and the gym during spa hours.

The site does not give its size, and no official page mentions a sauna or steam room; there is a spice bath with ginger, lime and lemongrass. Booking.com also lists a «hot spring bath», which the resort does not describe.

Is the spa included, what does it cost, and can outside guests use it?

Treatments are charged to the villa account, plus 10% service and 17% tax, according to the spa menu; the jacuzzi and the gym are free. Some offers add savings: Coco Festive Celebration 20% off treatments, Early Bird a 45-minute massage.

What are the spa’s hours?

Treatments and the boutique 9am to 7.30pm, yoga 7.30am to 7pm and the gym 7.30am to 7.30pm, according to the spa menu; over the festive season, 22 December to 7 January, the programme gives the spa as 9am to 6.30pm.

The FAQ mentions activities for children; over the festive season the programme opens the Coco Little Islanders’ Corner for ages 4 to 12, 10am to 5.30pm.

The site gives no year-round kids’ club with hours and ages. The dive centre offers a free lagoon try-dive from age 8, and the Stay Longer, Save More offer, from 7 nights, puts up 2 children under 12 free, paying only the seaplane and green tax. The island has no shared pool: with a child who is not keen on the sea, one of the 44 villas with a private pool is the better choice.

What else is on the island?

It includes treatments for the couple, photographs, an hour’s sunset cruise with champagne, breakfast in the villa, a cake and a framed certificate.

The ceremony is held in English, or another language if a staff member speaks it. The site does not say how many guests can attend or whether the marriage is legally binding; the same package covers a renewal of vows.

For mantas the 2026 fact sheet gives Hanifaru Bay from May to November, and for whale sharks from August to November.

How much is a night?

Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, for 2 adults and one night, taxes and fees included: $719 on 7 October 2026, $507 on 24 October (an isolated night), $1,208 on 6 November, $580 on 26 November, $467 on 13 December, $1,394 on 24 December, $2,056 on 27 December, $2,327 on 5 January 2027 and $1,235 on 14 January 2027.

For 7 October the $719 was the official site’s flexible rate for a Beach Villa on half board, the lowest of the sellers listed. From 28 December to 1 January there was no price at all. The seaplane and the compulsory gala dinners of 24 and 31 December are extra.

What do the reviews say?

Across the 482 Google reviews with text, 91% of those discussing the location are positive, and 82% of those discussing staff and services; on the villas 79% are happy. Nature, the turtles and the staff recur. The all-inclusive leaves out the minibar and many bar drinks, the seaplane and the extras are charged separately, the villas are rustic and there are erosion sandbags on the beach.

Which taxes and charges are added?

Rates on the official offers add 10% service charge, 17% goods and services tax and a green tax of $12 per person per night; the same 10% and 17% apply to the spa, excursions and water sports. Google Hotels prices for the Maldives include taxes and fees.

Charged on top: the seaplane, from $489.06 per adult according to Booking.com, the compulsory gala dinners on 24 and 31 December, excursions, and whatever the meal plan leaves out. You can pay in cash or by the main cards; Booking.com notes that US dollar notes from 2006 or earlier are not accepted.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in from 2pm and check-out by noon, according to the FAQ; early check-in and late check-out depend on availability. If your flight leaves Malé before 9am you may have to leave the island the day before, warns Booking.com.
