Dreamland suits couples who want quiet days and half-board dinners, with the lowest price any seller showed on Google starting at $417 for one night for 2 adults. For a holiday built around shows and parties, I would choose elsewhere.

Like a regular

The long side of the island from above: the white beach, the bungalows among the palms, the arrival jetty with a speedboat and the reef in the shallows.
  1. The beach at home

I would ask for a Beach Bungalow: its 78 m² include an outdoor shower, and the sand is directly outside, for days when you want to step out barefoot.

  2. A week in January

For 4–10 January 2027, each single night for 2 adults showed $417 on Google, read 12 October 2026; on 18 and 20 January, the figure was $1,391 a night.

  3. Budget for the seaplane

Allow $350 net per adult for the return seaplane transfer, in addition to the room, and send your international flight details to the resort 7 days before arrival.

  4. Snacks by the lake

On all inclusive, Lake View Bar serves the snacks covered by your plan from 10am to 11.30am and 3pm to 5pm; the included drinks remain available until midnight.

What Dreamland is

Dreamland has Hirundhoo to itself, an oval island of 52,886 m² in the north-east of Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 2011: 60 bungalows on the beach and 30 over the water, all of them 78 m², opened in February 2018. In the middle is the thing it is known for, a freshwater lake of 1,600 m² between mangroves and palms 20 metres tall, with a chlorine-free stretch where you swim among the water lilies.

People come for the calm and the food. In the 413 Google reviews with text, 83% of those who mention the bungalows praise them, and 80% of those who mention the staff and services; the buffets that change every day come up again and again, as do Friday’s sushi and fresh tuna, rooms made up twice a day, and reef sharks and turtles a few metres from the shore. From May to November Hanifaru Bay draws manta rays in their hundreds.

A few things are worth knowing before you book. The lake and the mangroves bring mosquitoes, as many guests wrote between 2022 and 2026; the reef is full of fish but short of living coral; and on the north side the sea has taken the beach from in front of some bungalows. Beyond half board nearly everything is extra, from the seaplane, $350 per adult, to drinks, and the resort’s excursions only run with at least 6 adults.

Dreamland has Hirundhoo to itself, a small green island in Baa Atoll: 90 bungalows around a freshwater lake you can swim in, with the mantas of Hanifaru Bay 15 minutes away by boat.

How we choose the hotels

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  1. Location

An island with only the resort on it, close to Hanifaru Bay; the beach varies a lot from side to side.

  2. Character

The lake among the mangroves, a barefoot island, little entertainment and many German guests.

  3. Rooms

78 m² for everyone, with an outdoor shower and cleaning twice a day; the beach outside depends on the number.

  4. Food and social life

2 buffet restaurants on the lake and the sea, praised by nearly everyone; few à la carte dinners, all extra.

  5. Wellness

A Thai spa among the mangroves, every treatment paid for; no sauna or steam room published.

  6. The stay as a whole

Google: from $417 for one night for 2 adults in the run of 4–10 January 2027, read 12 October 2026.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Dreamland’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. A small green island to walk round barefoot: guests tell of the reef with turtles and sharks a few metres from the shore, and of Hanifaru Bay and its mantas 15 minutes away by boat.

  2. Room

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Every bungalow measures 78 m²: guests write about the space, the large bathroom with its outdoor shower, and cleaning twice a day.

  3. Staff and service

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests thank the waiters and chefs, often by name, and describe a kitchen that cooks to order, vegan dishes included.

  5. Price

6 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. A quiet island and good food for what you pay, they write.

The scores come from 413 Google reviews with text, left from 10 February 2018 to 27 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Baa Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 7 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Baa Atoll:

Questions before you go

The questions people ask before booking Dreamland, answered from sources read between 3 and 7 October 2026.

What kind of resort is Dreamland Maldives?

A 4-star resort, as Google Hotels rates it, whose full name is Dreamland The Unique Sea & Lake Resort / Spa, with Hirundhoo island in Baa Atoll to itself. It has 90 bungalows, 60 on the beach and 30 over the water, on 52,886 m² of land, according to the rooms page and the resort’s fact sheet; the dive centre is under German management.

The diving page gives its opening as February 2018, and a guest that month wrote that it opened on 1 February with some bungalows still being finished. The official website, in English and Russian, names no hotel group.

Which bungalows can you choose, and how big are they?

2 types, according to the official rooms page: beach bungalows, 60 of them, and water bungalows, 30, all 78 m² and for up to 3 guests. They have air conditioning, a bath with hand shower, an indoor and an outdoor shower, a minibar, tea and coffee, a safe and free Wi-Fi; the water bungalows add a glass-topped coffee table and a ladder into the lagoon.

The fact sheet says all of them face the sea and take one extra bed at most, 90 by 190 cm. Guests describe large, clean rooms, made up twice a day. On Google Hotels, for 7 October 2026, Agoda asked $311 a night for a beach bungalow and $425 for a water bungalow.

Where is it, and is the island quiet?

On Hirundhoo, in the north-east of Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 2011, 15 minutes by boat from Hanifaru Bay, according to the diving page. The nearest inhabited islands are Dharavandhoo, the atoll’s former capital with the airport, 20 minutes by boat, and Kamadhoo, a fishing village of about 400 people, 30 minutes away.

It is a quiet island you can walk round barefoot in 15 minutes: guests write that they see other people mostly at meals, and live music is rare.

How do you get there from Malé, and what does the seaplane cost?

By seaplane from Velana airport, 35 minutes according to the «Plan your visit» page and 25 according to the fact sheet; or by domestic flight to Dharavandhoo, 20 or 25 minutes, then by speedboat, 10 or 15. The hotel policy page gives the seaplane at $350 net per adult return, half price from 2 to 12 and free under 2.

The seaplane flies only by day: anyone landing in Malé after 3:30pm continues by domestic flight, the last at 11pm. The resort asks for flight details 7 days ahead and takes departing guests to the airport at least 3 hours before their flight. The seaplane lands some way off the island, and the last stretch is by boat.

Can you arrive by car, or park?

No: Hirundhoo is an island without roads, reached only by seaplane or by domestic flight and speedboat. The Google Hotels listing names «Parking» among its amenities, but no official source mentions one, and the resort map shows none.

How do you get into the sea?

From the beach in front of the bungalows and down the ladder of the water bungalows. The resort map marks swimming and snorkelling areas around the island, and one stretch where swimming is not allowed.

Guests say you are among fish 5 metres from the shore; on the north side, where erosion has taken the sand, getting in is less easy.

Is there a house reef you can swim to?

Yes, with 4 marked entry points, according to the diving page, and experienced divers with at least 30 dives may dive it on their own with a buddy. Mask, snorkel and fins are free from reception on all inclusive; otherwise the dive centre rents them at $10 a day, on its 2023 price list.

Between 2024 and 2026 guests saw turtles, blacktip and nurse sharks, spotted eagle rays and octopus there, and now and then dolphins from the shore. The coral has suffered from bleaching, and some guests see it recovering.

What are the pools like?

There is one, and it is in the lake: in the middle of the island the resort built a freshwater biotope of 1,600 m², with water lilies and aquatic plants, and within it a chlorine-free swimming area the map calls the Bio Pool, according to the «Plan your visit» page. Around it are the deck with loungers, the main bar and the Lake View Restaurant.

The bungalows have no private pools. For some guests, swimming among the lilies is the reason to choose the island; this is lake water, still and chlorine-free, and the island has no other pool. The lake brings mosquitoes, so repellent is worth packing.

Is the pool heated, and when is it open?

The Bio Pool is the lake’s fresh water, without chlorine, and no source read mentions heating or gives a temperature. The official page publishes no opening hours either; Booking.com describes it as an outdoor pool open all year.

Where do you eat, and until when?

In 2 buffet restaurants built out over the water: the Lake View Restaurant over the lake and the Sea View Restaurant over the sea, with breakfast from 7:30 to 10, lunch from 12:30 to 2pm, on Fridays from 1:10 to 2:30pm, and dinner from 7:30 to 9pm. The Lake View Bar opens at 7:30 and the Beach Bar at 8:30, and both stay open until the last guest leaves.

Guests say the restaurants take turns in the evening and that only one opens when the island is quiet. They praise the variety, chefs who cook to order, vegan included, and Friday’s sushi and fresh tuna. Private dinners can be booked, such as lobster at $120 a head on the 2023 menu.

Which meal plans are there, and what do they include?

According to the hotel policy page and the meal plan list, half board, buffet breakfast and dinner, is included in every rate. On top, per adult per night: $25 for full board, $38 for half board plus and $55 for all inclusive, plus a 10% service charge and 12% tax.

All inclusive covers the 3 buffet meals and, from 8am to midnight, beer, house wine by the glass, house spirits, selected cocktails, soft drinks, tea, coffee and water; then sandwiches and cake from 10 to 11:30am and 3 to 5pm, snorkelling gear and one half-day excursion per person. Espresso and cappuccino, fresh juices, branded spirits, the minibar, the spa and diving stay outside it, and everyone in the room must be on the same plan.

What is the spa like?

Duny Thai Spa has its treatment rooms in the thick green of the mangroves, with therapists trained in Thailand, according to the fact sheet; the official photographs show double rooms with a stone tub for a petal bath. The website gives neither its size nor the number of rooms.

The official pages mention no sauna, steam room or spa pool. Google Hotels lists a sauna, and Booking.com a sauna, a steam room and yoga classes, which no official source read confirms.

Is the spa included, is there a fee, and can outside guests use it?

Treatments are paid for, all inclusive too, which the package rules exclude it from in so many words. No official page publishes spa access included in the rate or a day pass for anyone not staying on the island, which holds only the resort; the wedding package includes a couple’s massage.

What are the spa’s hours?

The official pages do not publish Duny Thai Spa’s hours, and no review read gives them. The terms of the wedding package ask for treatments to be booked ahead to get the time you want.

Which treatments does it offer, and at what prices?

The spa page lists traditional Thai massage, aromatic oil massage, hot stones, Swedish massage, a back, neck and head massage and foot reflexology, then facials, scrubs, aloe wraps and pre-tanning treatments; the massages begin with a 5-minute foot bath. It gives lengths of 45 and 85 minutes, while the Chinese-language menu of 2023 gives 50 and 90, at $80 and $135 a person.

The same menu prices facials at $80, a 2-hour Thai ritual at $170 and a 1-and-a-half-hour couple’s package of bath and aromatic massage at $250 a couple, all plus a 10% service charge and GST, 17% since 1 July 2025 (MIRA, read on 15 October 2026).

Can you go with children?

Yes, though there is no kids’ club. According to the hotel policy page, under-2s have free transfers, a cot and meals, and from 2 to 12 transfers are half price; excursions are half price from 2 to 11, and a room takes one extra bed at most. Booking.com accepts children of all ages and charges $125 a night for an extra bed.

The dive centre runs a children’s programme for ages 8 and 9 at $80, and first certifications from 10, on its 2023 list; alcohol is served from 18.

What is there on the island besides the bungalows?

2 restaurants and 2 bars, the lake with its Bio Pool, the spa, the Joy Dive centre, water sports from windsurfing and wakeboarding to guided jet-ski rides, and guided snorkelling, at night too, according to the water sports page. Then a floodlit tennis court, for a fee, volleyball and beach football, table tennis, darts, table football, a gym, a library of 100 books and a shop.

The resort map also marks a mosque and a nature trail through the protected mangroves. Booking.com says pets are not allowed, and the website reminds guests that bringing alcohol into the Maldives is prohibited and that it is confiscated on arrival.

Are there special offers?

The website has no offers page with prices: the hotel policy page explains that rates are dynamic, a quote holds for 48 hours and half board is always included. The «Plan your visit» page points to the low season, May to November, for the best rates.

The dive centre gives every 7th dive free, up to 14% off, and the water sports page offers packages of 3 or 4 activities at a discount. Several honeymoon couples in 2025 and 2026 describe a move to a water bungalow or a dinner by the sea on the house.

Can you get married at Dreamland?

Yes, in a symbolic ceremony with no legal standing. The official package costs $1,200 plus a 10% service charge and GST, 17% since 1 July 2025 (MIRA, read on 15 October 2026), with a minimum stay of 3 nights, and covers the coordinator, a master of ceremonies, boduberu drummers, a bouquet, the planting of a palm, a cake, a couple’s massage, a sunset sail on a dhoni and a candlelit dinner on the beach.

A professional photographer and a dinner with family and friends are charged separately, priced by the menu chosen. The website publishes no maximum number of guests; in bad weather the resort may move the place or the date.

Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?

Yes: the hotel policy page prices the New Year’s Eve dinner at $90 per adult and $45 per child, and makes the Christmas Eve dinner compulsory at the same prices, plus service and tax. The website publishes neither menu nor programme; the fact sheet mentions an occasional disco or live band.

Is there golf?

No: no official page mentions golf. The island’s activities are the reef, diving, water sports, tennis, volleyball and beach football, and boat trips to nearby islands, according to the excursions page.

When is it open, and when is the best season?

All year, as far as the official pages show; they announce no closures. According to the «Plan your visit» page high season runs from November to April, when it pays to book early, and low season from May to November, with the best rates; Hanifaru’s mantas come from May to November, best from July.

On Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, the nights from 20 to 28 October and from 5 January 2027 onwards carried no price, which does not mean the resort was closed. Guests in 2022 describe rainy days in June and December, while one who went in October had none.

How much does a night cost?

Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, for 2 adults and one night, taxes and fees included: $257 on 7 October 2026, $294 on 31 October, $508 on 1 November, $583 on 27 November, $432 on 11 December, $613 on 31 December and $408 on 4 January 2027. These are individual nights searched separately; the October figures below the current starting price do not establish a bookable run.

The bookable run of 4–10 January 2027 starts at $417 per single night for 2 adults, read 12 October 2026; the October low was an isolated-night observation; the calendar shows the lowest price and names neither the bungalow nor the meal plan. For 7 October the official site was not among the listing’s sellers. The seaplane and the Christmas Eve dinner are extra.

What do the reviews say?

On 6 October 2026 Google showed 4.7/5 from 645 ratings, 82% of them 5 stars, and Trip.com 4.6/5 from 9; on 3 October Tripadvisor gave 4.3/5 from 291, with a Travellers’ Choice 2026, and Booking.com 9.4/10 from 27, with cleanliness and comfort at 9.8 and value for money at 9.5.

The 413 Google reviews with text praise the staff, the food and the quiet above all. The reviews also come back to the mosquitoes from the lake, coral that has been through bleaching, the stretch of the north shore without sand, and the excursions, which only run with at least 6 adults and fair weather.

What taxes and charges are added to the rate?

Rates, meal plans, excursions, diving, spa and weddings carry the resort’s 10% service charge (hotel policy) plus the taxes set by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority: 17% GST on tourism goods and services since 1 July 2025 and, at tourist resorts, a Green Tax of $12 per person per night since 1 January 2025, read on 15 October 2026.

The seaplane, the compulsory Christmas Eve dinner, drinks outside your plan, the spa, excursions and diving are all extra. The resort charges the whole stay on booking, and cancelling less than 21 days ahead costs half of it.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in at 2pm and check-out at noon, according to the hotel policy page. In June 2026 a couple who arrived early were let into their room straight away; on all inclusive, drinks are covered until noon on the day you leave, then charged. You can pay by American Express, Mastercard or Visa, or in cash in US dollars, euros, pounds sterling or Swiss francs, according to the fact sheet.
