A couple walk along the wooden jetty past the water bungalows, she in a red dress.
  1. The bungalow to ask for

I would ask for a Superior Water Bungalow: 78 m², with a glass-bottom coffee table and a deck from which, the resort says, you reach the lagoon and house reef directly.

  2. The week that costs less

One night taken alone reads $451 to $452 from 3 to 9 November 2026 on Google, read 12 October 2026. Booked as 7 nights from 16 November 2026, the lowest seller asked $652 a night; the same nights taken alone read $446 to $954.

  3. On top of the rate

Add the speedboat, $150 net per adult and $75 per child, return, and the Green Tax of $12 per person per night. Half board is in every rate; all-inclusive is $75 more per adult per night.

  4. Baby sharks near the villas

3 guests who wrote between November 2025 and September 2026 saw baby sharks: from a water villa, while snorkelling round the villa, and from the swimming pool or pier areas.

What Thulhagiri is

Thulhagiri has a 31,544 m² island in North Malé Atoll to itself, 13 km from the airport: 50 beach bungalows of 53 m², 17 water bungalows of 56 m² and 20 larger water bungalows of 78 m². It is a 4-star resort, and its welcome letter signs off alongside Angiri Resorts and the Angaga, Safari Island and Dreamland resorts.

People come for the short hop and the simplicity. You step ashore after 20 minutes on a speedboat, go barefoot everywhere and can walk round the island in about 10 minutes; there is a single buffet restaurant, with the same table and waiter for your whole stay. Guests keep coming back to the baby sharks seen from the jetty, the staff and evenings at the beach bar.

Choose Thulhagiri knowing what it is: a simple 4-star, with a single buffet and no kids’ club or entertainment team. Anyone who wants sand, a lagoon and a short journey has it all within a 10-minute walk. The speedboat, the Green Tax of $12 per person per night and, on half board, drinks, water included, come on top of the rate.

Lumina Guide 2027

Thulhagiri is a small island in North Malé Atoll that you walk round barefoot in 10 minutes: 87 beach and water bungalows 20 minutes by speedboat from the airport, with half board in the rate.

A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.

What the badges are

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 25 July 2019 to 1 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay near Malé: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 7 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

Questions before you go

The questions people ask before booking Thulhagiri, answered from sources read between 3 and 7 October 2026.

What kind of resort is Thulhagiri?

A 4-star resort, as the official factsheet and Google Hotels rate it, on a 31,544 m² island in North Malé Atoll with nothing else on it. Its welcome letter names Angiri Resorts Management and Operations alongside the Angaga, Safari Island and Dreamland resorts.

The official site today counts 87 bungalows, 50 on the beach and 37 over the water; the older factsheet and welcome letter count 84, with 34 over the water, and give smaller sizes. The resort calls itself «Lovers Paradise», a barefoot island.

Which bungalows are there, and how big are they?

The rooms page lists 3 types, each for up to 3 guests: 50 beach bungalows of 53 m² with an outdoor shower, 17 water bungalows of 56 m², and 20 larger water bungalows of 78 m² with a four-poster bed, an outdoor shower and a glass-bottomed coffee table.

All have air conditioning, a bathtub, a minifridge, tea and coffee, a TV and free Wi-Fi. The 2018 factsheet gave the beach bungalows 42 m² and the water bungalows 37 m². On the 2025 map the largest bungalows fill the north-east jetty, numbers 201 to 220, and the others the south-east one, 221 to 237.

Where is it, and is the island quiet?

In North Malé Atoll, 13 km from Velana airport and 20 minutes by speedboat, according to the plan-your-visit page; Malé is 25 minutes by boat. Bandos, the nearest resort island, is about 5 km away as the crow flies on Google’s coordinates, and the local island of Himmafushi is an excursion away.

It is a quiet island without an entertainment team, guests say; in the evening there is music at the Sand Bar, with a Friday disco until about 11pm, a guest wrote on Tripadvisor in September 2026. A guest in October 2025, who had stayed on Safari Island the year before, notes that other islands and Malé are in view from here.

How do you get there from Malé, and what does the speedboat cost?

By speedboat from Velana airport, in 20 minutes, at any hour, on boats shared with other guests, according to the official site. The hotel policy puts the transfer at $150 per adult and $75 per child, return, free under 2.

Flight details are due 72 hours ahead, or you may have to pay for a private boat; the resort aims to send you off within 2 hours of landing and returns guests to the airport at least 3 hours before their flight. 2 guests in 2026 report $110 per person return.

Can you drive there or park?

No: Thulhagiri is an island without roads, reached only by boat, and no source describes any parking. Booking.com gives an address on Ameenee Magu in Malé, a city office rather than the island.

How do you get into the sea?

From the beach that rings the island, in front of the bungalows, and from the decks of the water bungalows, with direct access to the lagoon, according to the rooms page. The lagoon is 1 to 2 metres deep and, a guest wrote in November 2025, stays shallow for some 20 metres at low tide.

Several guests advise reef shoes: in places the sand is made of broken coral and shells. A guest in September 2026 found clearer water and more fish on the beach facing the open sea, with a few rocks at the entry.

Is there a house reef you can swim to?

Yes, around the island: the official 2025 map marks about 10 snorkelling areas and the reef entry points, with sharks, turtles and dolphins drawn around them. The Sub Aqua dive centre offers unlimited house-reef diving, free Nitrox for certified divers and night dives.

The reef edge is well out from the shore: a family in August 2026 recommends it for strong swimmers, and the welcome letter advises a life jacket and never swimming against the current. Guests in 2025 and 2026 spot baby sharks from the jetty and their villas, while others find part of the coral dead. All-inclusive guests get mask and fins free.

What pools are there?

The official factsheet and the welcome letter count 2 freshwater pools, with a sundeck and an infinity edge: one near the arrival jetty and one on the coffee-shop deck in front of the restaurant. They are 1.2 to 1.5 metres deep, with no lifeguard, and children must be supervised.

A guest in November 2025 describes a large pool with loungers around it, which most people use for its shade.

Is the pool heated, and when is it open?

It opens from 6am to 6pm, because it is chlorinated at night, according to the facilities page. No source read mentions heating or a water temperature.

Where do you eat, and until when?

At the main restaurant, a buffet, with breakfast from 7.30 to 10, lunch from 12.30 to 2pm, on Fridays from 1.15 to 2.30pm, and dinner from 7.30 to 9pm, according to the restaurant page, which introduces an Austrian chef. The Sand Bar doubles as a coffee shop from 7.30am to midnight, and the Beach Bar opens from 10am to 6.30pm.

The romantic beach dinner costs $265 or $375 per couple, with a seafood, meat or vegetarian menu and a bottle of sparkling wine. Guests praise the buffet’s range and the egg station; with a single restaurant, some dishes come round again over a longer stay.

Which meal plans are there, and what do they include?

According to the hotel policy, half board, a buffet breakfast and dinner, is included in every rate. On top, per adult per night: full board for $30, half board plus drinks for $50 and all-inclusive for $75.

The packages sheet of 2025 spells out all-inclusive: 3 buffet meals, beer, house wine by the glass, selected cocktails, soft drinks, juices, tea and coffee from 8am to midnight, 2 snack breaks at the coffee shop, mask and fins and one free excursion, snorkelling or the local island. It runs from noon on arrival day to noon on departure day; half board plus has the same drinks, without lunch.

What is the spa like?

It is the Duny Thai Spa, blending Eastern and Western treatments; on the 2025 map it sits at the end of a jetty above the lagoon, and its photograph shows a treatment room with the bed facing the sea. The menu also offers a «romance bath», a soak in the tub before the massage.

Neither the spa page, the 2024 menu nor the official factsheet gives its size, the number of rooms, or any sauna, steam room or hot tub. Google Hotels describes it as a Balinese spa: that was the Coconut Spa of the older welcome letter, with therapists trained in Bali.

Is the spa included, is there a fee, and can outside guests use it?

Treatments are paid for, all-inclusive too, since the packages sheet does not list the spa. The site publishes no spa access without a treatment and no day pass for people not staying on the island, which is reached only by boat; the wedding package includes a couples’ massage.

What are the spa’s opening hours?

The spa page and the 2024 menu publish no hours. The weddings page asks for spa bookings before arrival to secure a preferred slot; guests in 2025 and 2026 describe massages booked on the island, couples’ ones included.

Which treatments are offered, and at what prices?

From the 2024 menu, tax and service included: Thai, Royal Thai aromatic, hot-stone and Swedish massage at $102.08 for 50 minutes and $172.26 for 90; back, neck and head, and foot reflexology at $102.08 for 50 minutes; a body polish or aloe wrap at $95.70 for 45 minutes.

The «A Touch of Thai» ritual, with a bath, massage and herbal compress, costs $191.40 for an hour and a half or $216.92 for 2 hours with a scrub; the «You & Me» couples’ package, $319 for an hour and a half.

Is it a place for children?

Yes, though there is no kids’ club: no official page mentions one. Under the hotel policy, children under 2 get free transfers, cot and meals, and a single extra bed of 90 by 190 cm can be added; Booking.com says instead that there are no extra beds, and charges children from 13 as adults. Excursions are half price from 2 to 11. It is not adults-only, and Booking.com sets no minimum check-in age.

There is no lifeguard at the pool or in the lagoon. An Italian family with a 15-month-old, at New Year 2026, found everything perfect; anyone travelling with children and teenagers who want organised activities should know that the island has no entertainment team.

What is on the island besides the bungalows?

The restaurant, the Sand Bar, the Beach Bar, 2 pools, the spa, the dive centre, the Magic Surf & Sail water-sports centre with windsurfing, catamarans, water-skiing, wakeboarding, paddleboards, canoes and jet skis outside the lagoon, and a gym open around the clock, according to the official site.

Then a games room open day and night, a football pitch, beach volleyball, a souvenir shop and a jeweller, with hours on the facilities page. The site says the island is home to thousands of free-flying budgies. Pets are not allowed, according to Booking.com.

Are there offers, and is it worth booking direct?

The site has no booking engine or rate card: you book through its form or by writing to the hotel, which charges the full amount when you reserve, according to the hotel policy. It publishes no priced offers; its seasons page promises the best rates from May to November.

On the Google Hotels card read on 6 October 2026, for the night of 7 October, the official site did not appear: Priceline asked $383, Agoda $388 for a beach bungalow and $580 for the largest water bungalow, and Trip.com $714.

Can you get married at Thulhagiri?

Yes, in a symbolic ceremony with no legal standing: the weddings page prices the package at $3,500 plus 10% service and T-GST, 17% since 1 July 2025 (MIRA, read on 15 October 2026), on request and with a minimum stay of 3 nights, excluding the room, meals and transfers.

It covers the coordinator, the celebrant, the bouquet, bodu beru drummers, a palm planted by the couple, the cake, a couples’ massage, a candlelit dinner on the beach and photographs by the staff. Cancelling within 7 days costs half, within 3 days the full amount.

Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?

Yes: the hotel policy lists New Year’s Eve dinner at $100 per adult and $100 per child, and the compulsory Christmas Eve dinner at $100 per adult and $50 per child. The site publishes neither menu nor programme.

A guest in January 2026 remembers a Christmas dinner full of festive touches, and an Italian family spent New Year 2026 there.

Can you play golf?

No: no official page mentions golf. The activities are the reef, diving, water sports and the excursions, from sunset dolphin trips to night fishing and a tour of Malé.

When is it open, and when is the best season?

All year: the official pages announce no closures, and on Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, 115 of the 117 nights from 7 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 had a price; 8 and 11 October did not, which does not mean the resort was closed.

The official site calls November to April high season, to be booked well ahead, and May to November low season. In late September 2026 one guest on Tripadvisor describes strong wind and waves on the south-west side, and another a free upgrade with the island half empty.

How much is a night?

Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, for 2 adults and one night, taxes and fees included: $278 on 7 October 2026, $232 on 15 October, $369 on 5 November, $590 on 10 November, $373 on 14 December, $590 on 24 December, $624 on 2 January 2027, $815 on 14 January and $780 on 20 January 2027.

Of the 117 nights read, 115 had a price, from $232 to $815; the calendar shows the lowest price and names neither the bungalow nor the meal plan. Under the hotel policy, rates include half board and tax, while the Green Tax and the speedboat are extra.

What do the reviews say?

On 6 October 2026 Google showed 4.5/5 from 1,122 ratings, 75% of them 5 stars; on 3 October Tripadvisor gave 4.3/5 from 994, with a Travellers’ Choice 2026 award and 4.6 for location, and Booking.com 8.8/10 from just 10 reviews, with 7 for value.

In the latest 500 Google reviews with text, 89% of those discussing the location are positive, and 74% of those discussing the rooms. Praise keeps returning for the staff, the buffet and the baby sharks seen from the jetty. Some guests see it as an inexpensive way to stay on an island in the Maldives; others count the speedboat and extras added to the rate. The mattresses are firm, the chairs and loungers on the beach are plastic and, on half board, drinks are charged separately.

Which taxes and charges are added?

Under the hotel policy, rates include 10% service charge and 17% GST, and a Green Tax of $12 per person per night is added. Excursion, spa and menu prices already include tax and service; the weddings page adds them on top: 10% service and T-GST, 17% since 1 July 2025 (MIRA, read on 15 October 2026).

Paid separately: the speedboat, meal-plan supplements, the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve dinners, the spa, diving, motorised water sports and, on half board, drinks. Late check-out and day use of the room are charged, subject to availability.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in from 2pm and check-out by noon, according to the hotel policy. The welcome letter adds that early-morning arrivals may have to wait for their room, and that guests leaving in the evening get a room to change and shower in.
