Kani suits families who want the children busy with sport while the adults have time together: the clubs cover ages 4 to 17. For a holiday built around solitude and silence, a quieter resort is the closer fit.

Our verdict

2 people with their arms raised on the steps of an overwater suite, at sunset over the lagoon.

Club Med Kani fills Kanifinolhu, an island in North Malé Atoll 25 minutes by speedboat from Velana airport, with 2 km of private beach. The Superior and Deluxe rooms sit on the beach or in the garden, from 28 m² up to 75 m² when 2 rooms are joined, and the Manta overwater suites of 50 m² make up the Exclusive Collection, with their own bar and beach and a minimum age of 8.

People come for the formula: meals, an open bar, 29 included activities and clubs for children from 4 to 17, with the flying trapeze, sailing and, guests say, 2 boat snorkelling trips a day. Among the latest 500 Google reviews, 96% of those who mention the staff are positive.

Kani is chosen for village life first and the room second: anyone after solitude and silence will be happier elsewhere. The spa, excursions, diving and jet skis cost extra, and there is no club for children under 4.

What makes it rare

A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.

  • Children’s kingdom

Here: the Mini Club Med+ looks after children from 4 to 10 and the teen clubs go up to 17, all in the price; the flying trapeze can be tried from the age of 4.

What the badges are

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Kani’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests keep coming back to the clear water, the white sand, an island the village has to itself and the 25-minute speedboat from Malé.

  2. Room

6 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Guests write about the beach rooms, kept clean every day, and the Manta suites over the lagoon.

  3. Staff and service

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests keep coming back to the G.O.s who teach by day and perform at night, the Mini Club, the trapeze and the sailing and snorkelling teams.

  4. Breakfast

Every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Breakfast is taken at Veli, on the terrace by the sea or indoors, and guests thank the people serving by name; in the Manta suites it is also included in the room.

  5. Price

7 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. What wins them over is the all-inclusive price, which keeps surprise bills away.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 3 July 2025 to 3 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in North Malé Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 7 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in North Malé Atoll:

Price: for two on the night of 11 October 2026, from $823 (seen on Google Hotels on 7 October 2026).

Good to know before you book

  • The beach and garden rooms have some years on them: anyone set on a new room should look at the renovated overwater suites, which Club Med lists from December 2026 and May 2027.

  • The 25-minute speedboat from Malé is included only when the flights are booked with Club Med, as the UK site puts it. Without flights the official engine offers it as an on-demand extra, and shows the fare only once it is added.

  • There is no club under 4: babies from 6 months and children of 2 and 3 are welcome, with a baby kit to book and purées in the restaurant, but no childcare. The overwater suites take guests from 8.

  • The spa, excursions, diving, surfing and jet skis are paid for separately. The bill for extras is settled at check-out in local currency, at the village’s own exchange rate.

  • Wi-Fi is free across the island and fine for browsing and messages, less so for streaming, guests write between 2020 and 2026. The day’s timetable lives in the village app.

  • Between September 2025 and March 2026, 4 Google reviews describe mould in the room: on the curtains, in the bathroom or in the wardrobe.

Questions before you go

The questions people ask before booking Kani, answered from sources read between 3 and 7 October 2026.

What kind of resort is Club Med Kani?

An all-inclusive Club Med village that has Kanifinolhu, an island in North Malé Atoll, to itself, with 2 km of private beach, according to the official page. Google Hotels rates it 4 stars. Beside the beach and garden rooms sits the Manta’s Exclusive Collection Space: overwater suites with their own services, from age 8.

It is a different resort from The Finolhu Villas, Club Med’s other property on the neighbouring island, sold separately. Club Med does not publish a room count; the village holds Green Globe certification.

Which rooms and suites are there, and how big are they?

The official factsheet of 2 October 2026 and the resort page list 12. On the beach and in the garden: Superior rooms of 28 to 42 m² for 3 or 4 guests, 2 connecting versions of 56 to 75 m² for 6, and the beachfront Deluxe of 38 to 42 m², with a terrace and an outdoor shower. Over the water: 7 Manta suites of 50 m², for 2, 3 or 4 guests, with a separate living room and direct access to the sea.

3 of the suites are renovated versions, opening in stages from December 2026 and May 2027. For 10 to 17 November 2026 the official engine asked $345 a night more for the Deluxe and $575 for an Exclusive Collection suite, over the Superior. Superior rooms have a shower; the suites add a bath.

Where is it, and is the island quiet?

On Kanifinolhu in North Malé Atoll, 25 minutes by speedboat from Velana airport, according to the official page; the address is «P.O. Box N 2051, North Malé Atoll». Malé, the capital, is 30 minutes away by speedboat on the village’s excursion.

It is a lively village, with shows at night, beach parties and The Iru bar for dancing. Quiet is easier to find in the Manta suites, with their own beach and bar, and a guest in November 2025 wrote that the island never feels packed.

How do you get there from Malé, and is the transfer included?

By speedboat, 25 minutes from Velana airport, as the official page says. Club Med’s UK site adds that the transfer is included when the flights are booked with Club Med too.

Booking the stay alone, the official engine offers an on-demand return transfer and shows its fare only once it is added; on 7 October 2026 we did not add it. The US site, on the same page, lists the transfer among the inclusions without that condition. Rooms are ready from 3pm to 8pm.

Can you drive there or park?

No: Kani is an island reached only by boat, with no roads. The Google Hotels listing shows parking among its amenities, but no official page describes any; guests fly into Malé and board the speedboat at the airport.

How do you get into the sea, and what is the beach like?

From the beach, 2 km of coral sand around the island, according to the official page, and from the Manta suites, which have steps or a diving board into the sea. A couple in May 2026 described a shallow shelf you can walk out on for several metres before swimming.

Kayaks, paddleboards, pedal boats with a slide and sailing all leave from the beach and are included.

Is there a reef you can swim to?

Club Med does not describe a house reef. The official page says snorkelling starts from the beach or by boat, and the included session is a boat trip to nearby reefs, from 8, with a compulsory life jacket and a swimming test; there is also a 1-hour-30 underwater trail among the artificial reefs the village’s marine biologist has planted.

Guests describe 2 boat trips a day, with turtles, nurse sharks and rays, fish seen from the jetty and, from the Manta suites, the sea floor under the stilts. In May 2026 a couple found the open sea too rough to enjoy the trip.

What pools are there?

One freshwater infinity pool on the edge of the beach, next to the bar, with a shallow children’s area and water games run by the sports team, according to the official page; children there are their parents’ responsibility. It is included, with aqua-fitness classes from 16.

The official factsheet lists no private pools in the overwater suites, which step straight down into the lagoon. The site gives no dimensions for the pool.

Is the pool heated, and when is it open?

The official factsheet lists it as always available, with no hours or temperature; no source read mentions heating. The village is open all year apart from a closure from 6 to 20 May 2027.

Where do you eat, and what is served?

According to the official page: The Veli, the main restaurant, for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the beachfront deck or indoors, with international, Asian, Indian, healthy and vegetarian dishes, grilled fish and biryani plated to order; The Kandu on the lagoon, with tartines all day and the catch grilled Maldivian-style at night; and the Kani Kravings truck for sandwiches, crêpes and dosas. All of it is included.

The bars are The Sunset on the beach, The Iru for the evening and the Manta bar, reserved for the Exclusive Collection, with champagne by the glass from 6pm. The site publishes no restaurant hours; they are in the app. Guests describe a lobster dinner.

What does all-inclusive cover, and what costs extra?

Kani is sold all-inclusive only. For the night of 10 November 2026 the official engine included the room, full board with breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and dinner, the bar and snacks all day, and sport; the official page adds the clubs for children aged 4 to 17 and the evening shows.

The spa, excursions, diving, surfing, jet skis, laundry and room service cost extra; in the Manta suites breakfast in the room is included.

What is the spa like?

It is a Club Med Spa by Thalgo, in cottages in the island’s garden near reception and the restaurant. The official page counts 2 single treatment rooms, 3 doubles, 3 doubles with a shower, an open-air palapa and a relaxation room.

No official source read mentions a sauna, a steam room or a jacuzzi, and the site gives no floor area. The treatments use Thalgo’s marine products.

Is the spa included, and can outside guests use it?

No: treatments are paid for and limited to over-18s, according to the official page. For Kani Club Med sells a Discovery Day Pass, 10am to 6pm, or an evening version from 7pm to midnight, with sport, meals and drinks, bought only at the village on the day; the price is not published and the spa is not among its inclusions.

What are the spa’s hours, and do you need to book?

The site does not publish spa hours. Treatments need booking: the official page suggests doing it before travelling or at the spa desk on arrival, and packages cannot be passed on to someone else.

Which treatments does it offer, and at what prices?

On Club Med’s US site, on 7 October 2026: a 50-minute massage from $174, a 50-minute facial from $162, and tailored packages of 2, 4 and 6 hours spread over several days from $386, $631 and $900.

All are from 18 and must be booked. The site advises against treatments in pregnancy and for mothers in the 3 months after giving birth.

Is it good for children, and from what age?

Yes, it is built for families. According to the official page: Mini Club Med+ for ages 4 to 10, 8:30am to 5pm and 6:45pm to 8:45pm, Teens Club Med for 11 to 13 and the Chill Pass for 14 to 17, 9:30am to 5pm and 7pm to 9:30pm, closed on Sundays. They are included, with the trapeze from 4 and sailing from 6.

There is no club under 4: you book a kit with a cot, a baby bath and a bottle warmer, and the restaurant has a corner for the youngest. The UK FAQ names a Petit Club Med and a Junior Club Med, which the resort page says Kani does not offer. The overwater suites are from 8.

What is on the island besides the rooms?

According to the official page: 2 restaurants, the food truck and 3 bars, the pool, the spa, the flying trapeze, padel courts, a Technogym gym, the Euro-Divers dive centre, sailing boats, kayaks, beach volleyball, football, basketball, table tennis, pétanque and a swing over the water. In all, 29 activities are included and 20 cost extra.

There is also a nurse and a diving doctor, the Amazing Family Hub with an indoor playground and arcade games, and cooking classes 3 times a week. A returning guest, in a Tripadvisor review the official page quotes, writes that the padel courts have gone from 2 to 4.

What offers are there?

On 7 October 2026 the US site promised up to $810 off per person per week and a free stay for children under 4, booking by 20 October 2026; the official engine applied the saving to 7-night stays, with the initial price struck through.

For honeymooners Club Med sells a package from £300 a couple, with champagne on arrival, a couples’ spa treatment and a romantic dinner or tasting menu. Summer 2027 sales open on 13 October 2026.

Can you get married at Kani?

The site publishes no wedding package for Kani, and no prices or capacities. Club Med says it organises events and weddings in its villages on its Meetings & Events page, and the resort page offers honeymooners romantic dinners, private excursions and spa treatments.

Among guests, one in July 2025 described the romantic beach dinner the village arranged during a holiday with the children.

Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?

The site publishes no New Year menu or programme, and lists no dinner supplement: on 7 October 2026 the official engine asked $1,632 for 2, all-inclusive, for the night of 31 December, against $953 in October and November.

One family describes seeing in 2026 at Kani, and another the Christmas Eve 2025 dinner on the beach, with king crab and lobster at the buffet.

Can you play golf?

No: there is no golf course at Kani and no official page mentions one. The island’s sports are on the water, plus padel, the trapeze, beach volleyball and football, according to the official page.

When is it open, and when is the best time to go?

All year, with a closure from 6 to 20 May 2027: for those nights the official engine answered on 7 October 2026 that the resort is closed, and sold again from 21 May. The renovated suites arrive from December 2026 and May 2027.

Club Med’s UK FAQ gives the dry season as November to April, with calm seas and clear water; May to October brings more rain, fewer guests and the manta rays. Surfing runs from May to October.

How much does a night cost?

On Club Med’s official booking engine, read on 7 October 2026, one night for 2 adults all-inclusive, without flights or transfer, in the cheapest room available: $953 on 20 October and 10 November 2026, $897 on 8 December, $1,050 on 15 December, $1,632 on 31 December and $1,090 on 12 January 2027. The engine gives one total covering the room, meals, drinks and sport, with no tax shown separately.

The figures are for the couple, not per person; the room was a beachfront Superior, a garden one on 8 December. Google Hotels showed no price on 6 October 2026 for any of the 117 nights to 31 January 2027; the next day Agoda had Kani sold out on 10 November, Expedia showed no rooms and Booking.com did not list it. The speedboat, without Club Med’s flights, comes on top.

What do the reviews say?

On 6 October 2026 Google showed 4.8/5 from 2,247 ratings, 88% of them 5 stars; on 3 October Tripadvisor gave 4.7/5 from 11,219, with a 2026 Travellers’ Choice; item by item, 4.8 for location, 4.7 for service, 4.6 for cleanliness and for sleep quality, 4.4 for rooms and 4.3 for value. Agoda and Trip.com gave 8.3/10 from 67.

In the latest 500 Google reviews, written since July 2025, 96% of those mentioning the staff and 95% of those mentioning the setting are positive. On the rooms, guests like the clean beach rooms and the Manta suites over the lagoon; the beach and garden rooms have some years on them. Extras, from the spa to diving, are paid for separately.

What taxes and charges are added?

The official engine shows a total for the stay with no tax line. On Tripadvisor, on 3 October 2026, clubmed.us’s price for 11 October, $797.30 for 2, broke down into a $677.30 rate, $26 of taxes and $120 of fees, while the page’s own note says taxes are not included.

Paid separately: the speedboat without flights, the spa, excursions and diving, room service and laundry, and lunch if you arrive before 3pm. Extras are settled in local currency at the end of the stay, at the village’s own exchange rate.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Rooms are available from 3pm to 8pm and must be left by 10am for guests leaving before 3pm, according to the official factsheet; Expedia gives the same times.
