Cocoon suits couples and families who want meals included and a free children’s club, with the lowest seller on Google showing one night for 2 adults from $540 in November. If your holiday revolves around a reef reached from the beach, choose an island with that on its doorstep.

The lagoon villas in a row on the curving jetty, the island beyond
  1. The villa to ask for

For an overwater stay, I would ask for the Lagoon Villa: 65 m² over the water, an outdoor shower and a bed that appears to float, with large windows bringing the view indoors.

  2. The November price window

On 12 October 2026, the nights from 2 to 8 November 2026 ranged from $508 to $540 each for 2 adults on Google. The night of 31 December 2026 reached $2,431: I would start with November.

  3. Add the seaplane transfer

Allow $465 per adult for the return seaplane with Winter Bliss, for bookings by 31 October 2026 and stays through 31 January 2027. The offer is subject to availability and cannot be combined with other promotions.

  4. The last included drink

With the All Inclusive plan, drinks by the glass run from 10am to midnight; drinks ordered after midnight are charged at standard rates. I would keep that boundary in mind when lingering over a last drink.

What Cocoon is

It opened on 26 December 2016 (Corporate Maldives) and calls itself “the first design hotel in the Maldives”, with 150 villas, 3 restaurants and 2 bars furnished by LAGO (official site); at the South Asian Travel Awards it won the title of South Asia’s Leading Designer Hotel/Resort in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022 (awards). It belongs to The Cocoon Collection, with You & Me and Joy Island in the Maldives and 3 resorts in Zanzibar (The Cocoon Collection).

It reopened on 1 October 2024 after a refit (Visit Maldives); the new features the resort lists include 10 Lagoon Suites with a slide, 5 Lagoon Suites and 5 Beach Suites with a pool, a gym, the yoga pavilion and every villa refurbished (what is new). The island is 120 km from Malé (FAQ); a walk round the shore is 1.8 km, about 24 minutes, and the island covers 10.9 hectares, on OpenStreetMap.

The villas run from the 50 m² of the 50 Beach Villas to the 300 m² of the Cocoon Suite; over the lagoon there are 65 m² Lagoon Villas and suites of 70 and 90 (villas and suites). There are only 2 plans, All Inclusive and All Inclusive Extreme (meal plans): the Octopus buffet, Manta over the water and the Japanese Garden teppanyaki à la carte, and 2 bars (dining and bars).

It scores 4.9 out of 5 on Google from 2,458 reviews, 4.8 on Tripadvisor from 5,668 (Tripadvisor) and 9.7 on Booking.com from 177, read on 5 October 2026 (Booking.com).

One Lume

Lumina Guide 2027

Gives more than the other hotels of its place and price range.

Cocoon is an island in Lhaviyani Atoll, 30 minutes by seaplane from Malé, where the 150 villas, the restaurants and the bars are furnished by the Italian brand LAGO and every stay is all inclusive.

How Lumi are awarded
  • Guests (exceptional)

500 reviews read: the staff and service please almost every guest who mentions them, the location more than 9 in 10.

  • Ours

We found a resort that reopened on 1 October 2024 with every villa refurbished, from 50 to 300 m², and 3 tables: the Octopus buffet, Manta over the water and the Japanese Garden teppanyaki.

Those who come back

Among Cocoon’s regulars, a guest on a second stay, writing in July 2026, had looked forward to the food before arriving and enjoyed it again. A guest writing in June 2025, on a third stay, singles out the new gym, where guests can train while looking out at the ocean.

  • At least 11 of the 1,556 reviews with text explicitly describe a return stay
  • From a second stay to a fourth
  • A guest had already stayed at Cocoon in 2021

The return count uses explicit accommodation accounts from the saved reviews; ambiguous references to an island or the hotel group are excluded.

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  1. Location

30 minutes by seaplane, with a charged transfer.

  2. Character

Furnished by LAGO, it calls itself the first design hotel in the Maldives.

  3. Rooms

50 to 300 m², refurbished for the 2024 reopening.

  4. Food and social life

A buffet with themed nights, a restaurant over the water and a teppanyaki.

  5. Wellness

The Cube Spa, sauna and steam room; TUI lists 10am–8pm, treatments charged.

  6. The stay as a whole

$540 to $2,431 a night for 2 on Google, all inclusive; the seaplane is extra.

What makes it rare

A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.

  • A spa worth the trip

Here: at The Cube Spa, facials and body rituals, for couples too, with a sauna and steam room; yoga is at sunrise and sunset, in the pavilion by the sea.

104 of the 108 guests who write about the spa are pleased. 28 hotels of 335 hold it.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Cocoon’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. An island in Lhaviyani Atoll, 30 minutes by seaplane from Malé: guests write of the white sand and of the lagoon, where they see baby sharks, rays and turtles.

  2. Room

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Villas furnished by the Italian brand LAGO, with suspended beds: guests write of the Lagoon Suites with a slide into the sea, the Beach Villas a few steps from the water and cleaning twice a day.

  3. Staff and service

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Guests thank by name their island host, who looks after them from arrival and books excursions and restaurants, the villa attendants and the waiters at Octopus.

  4. Breakfast

8 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. Breakfast is the buffet at Octopus, from 7.30 to 10am, part of the all-inclusive: guests write of a wide choice and of the staff who greet them at the table each morning.

  5. Price

It is sold all-inclusive only: meals at Octopus and drinks by the glass from 10am to midnight. Manta, the teppanyaki, excursions, the spa and the seaplane, $465 return per adult, are extra.

The scores come from 500 Google reviews with text, left from 21 December 2025 to 5 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 5 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in the Maldives:

Price: for two on the night of 2 November 2026, from $540 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).

What a night costs, season by season

From 2 to 6 November 2026, individual nights were listed at $540 for 2 adults, while 27 December 2026 to 7 January 2027 ranges from $1,631 to $2,431. I would compare November dates first, keeping 31 December 2026 at $2,431 in view when planning a festive stay.
