Like a regular

Mediterraneo’s terrace over the water at dusk, tables laid under the thatched roof and a pink sky.
  1. A sunset over the water

I would ask for a Sunset Water Villa with Pool: 172 m², a private infinity pool and a covered patio facing the view; the resort lets you book specifically for the sunset preference.

  2. The weeks to look at

In the calendar read on 12 October 2026, the week of 12–18 May 2027 has 7 nights at $897 each; the dearest night shown is 22 April 2027 at $2,712. I would start with May.

  3. Budget for the crossing

Budget $590 per adult for the return shared seaplane, or $360 for a child aged 2–11, on top of the stay; motorised water sports, including jet skis, also carry an extra charge.

  4. Arriving on an evening flight

For an evening international arrival, the resort also offers a 40-minute domestic flight to Ifuru and a 5-minute speedboat crossing; same-day seaplanes need a Malé landing by 3.30pm.

What Emerald Faarufushi is

Faarufushi is a private island of 7 hectares in Raa Atoll, in the north of the archipelago, with 1.2 km of white beach and a lagoon of 100 hectares, according to the official website. The Emerald Collection, whose company is based in Rome, opened the resort on 1 October 2022, and it belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World. Its 80 villas, in 7 types from 120 to 351 m², are 38 on the beach and 42 along the jetty; all but the 10 Beach Villas have a pool.

What sets it apart is the plan. The Deluxe All-Inclusive covers every meal at the Aqua buffet, lunch at the Beach Club Grill and dinner à la carte at Carnivorous, Le Asiatique with its teppanyaki and Mediterraneo over the lagoon, with an extensive wine list and a minibar restocked daily. Of the 158 Google reviews with text written since the opening, 96% of those discussing the staff and services are positive, and many thank their villa host by name.

What weighs is what the plan leaves out, and the size of the island. Spa treatments, diving and most excursions are paid for: the dive centre's price list puts a dolphin tour at $70 a head and a 15-minute jet ski at $125, plus tax and service. Guests walk round the island in 15 to 20 minutes, find sea walls and coral fragments on parts of the shore, and in the school holidays share it with many families.

What makes it rare

A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do Emerald Faarufushi’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. The reef starts a few metres from the villa: guests tell of snorkelling among coral, turtles and sharks without taking a boat, of the clear water and of a quiet island.

  2. Room

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Of the villas guests tell of the space, the private pool and the twice-daily housekeeping, from the Sunset Water Villas along the jetty to the villas on the beach.

  3. Staff and service

Nearly every guest who mentions it is happy with it. Every villa has a host who books the restaurants and the trips: guests thank theirs by name, along with the sommeliers and the chefs.

  4. Breakfast

Breakfast is the Aqua buffet on the beach, from 7.30am to 10.30am.

  5. Price

9 in 10 guests who mention the price find it fair. The all-inclusive plan covers meals in the 5 restaurants, wine, beer and cocktails from a long list in every outlet, the minibar and non-motorised water sports.

The scores come from 158 Google reviews with text, left from 13 October 2022 to 30 September 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in Raa Atoll: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 6 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in Raa Atoll:

Price: for two on the night of 1 September 2027, from $867 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).

Questions before you go

What people ask before booking Emerald Faarufushi, with answers from sources read between 3 and 6 October 2026.

What kind of resort is Emerald Faarufushi?

A 5-star resort sold on a Deluxe All-Inclusive plan, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, on Faarufushi, a private island of 7 hectares in Raa Atoll, according to the official website. It belongs to the Emerald Collection, whose company is based in Rome, and has 80 villas, 38 on the beach and 42 over the water.

The 2022 brochure gives its grand opening as 1 October 2022. The island had an earlier resort: Tripadvisor lists it as formerly Faarufushi Maldives, and the Google listing keeps 17 ratings from 2018 to 2022. Its sister resort, Emerald Maldives, is on Fasmendhoo in the same atoll.

Which villas are there and how big are they?

7 types, according to the villas page and the 2023 brochure. On the beach: Beach Villas, 120 m², 10 villas, the only ones without a pool; Beach Villas with Pool, 172 m², 20; Two Bedroom Family Beach Villas with Pool, 220 m², 7; Two Bedroom Presidential Beach Villa, 351 m², 1. Over the water: Water Villas with Pool on the sunrise side, 172 m², 21; Sunset Water Villas with Pool, 172 m², 18; Superior Water Villas with Pool, 230 m², 3.

Every villa has a king-size bed, a bathtub, indoor and outdoor showers, air conditioning, a minibar restocked daily and housekeeping twice a day, according to the brochure. The pools measure 4 × 6 m on the beach, 8 × 3 m over the water, 4 × 10 m in the Superior and 12 × 5 m in the Presidential. Booking.com adds a sofa bed in each type; in October 2026 a guest who had asked for a topper, having read that the bed can be firm, found it comfortable.

Where is it, and is the island quiet?

On Faarufushi Island in Raa Atoll, in the north of the archipelago, according to the official website; the Google listing gives Faarufushi Island, 20002. It is 45 minutes by seaplane from Malé, 5 minutes by speedboat from the domestic airport on Ifuru and 20 minutes by boat from its sister resort.

Guests describe a small, green, quiet island, walked round in 15 to 20 minutes, with one inhabited island in the distance and little light at night: in July 2026 a couple saw the Milky Way. What noise there is comes from the DJ, karaoke and themed nights at the Sunset Pool & Bar.

How do you get there from Malé, and what does the transfer cost?

By seaplane, about 45 minutes from Velana airport, or by a 40-minute domestic flight to Ifuru and 5 minutes by speedboat, according to the «How to get here» page, which suggests the flight for evening international departures. Same-day seaplanes serve flights landing by 3.30pm and leaving from 9am.

The website prints no price. Booking.com, on 3 October 2026, gives the shared seaplane at $590 per adult and $360 per child aged 2 to 11 return, the flight and speedboat at $610 and $380, and asks for flight details at least 7 days before arrival. Guests describe a representative waiting at the airport and traditional music at the seaplane jetty.

Can you arrive by car or park?

No: Faarufushi is an island reached by seaplane or by flight and speedboat, and no official page mentions parking, although Google Hotels lists it among the amenities. On the island guests walk, ride the bicycle each villa is given or call a buggy, which in October 2026 came within 5 minutes of a message to the host.

How do you get into the sea?

From the beach that rings the island, 1.2 km of white sand according to the official website, or from the decks of the 42 water villas. From there a staircase leads down into the sea, a guest in a sunset water villa wrote in October 2026.

Some beach villas have little sand in front of them, and sea walls guard parts of the shore, leaving sheltered water for children, according to a guest in October 2026. Kayaks, paddleboards and windsurf boards are on the plan, but the water sports centre hands out no catamarans, pedalos or kayaks at low tide, to spare the reef.

Is there a house reef you can swim to?

Yes. The official website describes a 100-hectare lagoon with «one of the finest coral reefs» in the Maldives, and Expedia's listing says you can enter from the beach or the yoga deck and snorkel a full circuit of the island. Guests in 2025 and 2026 report coral under the water villas and by the breakwater, with small blacktip sharks, rays, turtles, moray eels and octopus.

The all-inclusive plan includes masks and fins and a guided group snorkel twice a week, of 20 minutes in its brochure and 30 on Booking.com. A German couple in March 2026 found the house reef good but not spectacular; the PADI 5-star dive centre sells single dives from $96.

What pools are there?

70 villas have a private pool: 4 × 6 m in the Beach Villas with Pool and the Family Villas, 8 × 3 m over the water, 4 × 10 m in the Superior Water Villas and 12 × 5 m, with a jacuzzi, in the Presidential, according to the villa pages. The shared pool is at the Sunset Pool & Bar on the main beach, whose bar serves from 10.30am to midnight.

The Dolphin Kids Club has a small pool shaded by a sail, according to a guest in October 2026, and the spa has plunge pools beside its steam room. The 10 Beach Villas have none: their guests use the pool at the Sunset Pool & Bar, the only shared one, where the children swim too, and anyone who wants the water to themselves books one of the 70 villas with a pool.

Are the pools heated, and when are they open?

The website says nothing about heating or temperature. The spa’s steam room and plunge pools open from 10am to 7pm, 4 people at a time, according to the spa menu, and the Sunset Pool & Bar serves from 10.30am to midnight.

Where can you eat, and until when?

According to the all-inclusive plan and the dining page: Aqua, the buffet on the beach, 7.30 to 10.30am, 12.30 to 2.30pm and 7.30 to 9.30pm; the Beach Club Grill, pizza, pasta and grilled fish and meat, lunch from 12.30 to 3pm; then Carnivorous, a Brazilian churrascaria, Le Asiatique and Teppanyaki Grill, upstairs at the Beach Club, and Mediterraneo, over the lagoon, each serving dinner from 7 to 10pm. The bars are the Sunset Pool & Bar, 10.30am to midnight, and Eclipse, at the tip of the jetty, 6 to 11pm.

The à la carte restaurants must be booked, through the villa host or the app: in busy weeks it pays to fix the tables on arrival. Many guests praise the Italian executive chef.

What meal plans are there, and what do they include?

The resort sells one plan, Deluxe All-Inclusive, and its brochure sets out what it covers from arrival to departure: every meal at Aqua, lunch at the Beach Club Grill, dinner at Carnivorous, Le Asiatique and Mediterraneo for every villa category, wine, beer, cocktails, soft drinks and coffee from an extensive list in every outlet, a minibar of soft drinks, beer and water, Wi-Fi, non-motorised water sports, snorkelling gear, the gym, padel and tennis, and the Dolphin Kids Club.

Excursions are one per stay from 7 nights and 2 from 10. In-villa dining is extra, some dishes and wines carry a supplement, and the plan is non-refundable; on Booking.com children under 14 pay $260 a night for it. In October 2026 a couple's minibar also held full bottles of red, white, rosé and sparkling wine.

What is the spa like?

The Emerald Spa stands in the wooded centre of the island: 8 air-conditioned treatment huts, raised among the trees in the brochure's words, a steam room, a relaxation area with plunge pools, a yoga pavilion and manicure and pedicure stations. The spa menu adds couples' rooms, Thai and Ayurvedic massage rooms, a beauty room and a shop, and uses Elemis products.

The website gives no floor area and lists no sauna. Guests mostly praise the therapists.

Is the spa included, is there a fee, and can outside guests use it?

Treatments are paid for and charged to the villa; the all-inclusive plan lists no spa among its inclusions. Members of the free Friends of Emerald club are promised 20% off treatments, and the honeymoon offer includes a 60-minute massage for 2.

No page publishes a day pass for anyone not staying, and the island is reached only by seaplane or boat. The spa is for guests aged 16 and over, according to the spa menu; children of 5 to 11 have treatments of their own, with a guardian.

What are the spa's opening hours?

9am to 8pm daily, according to the spa menu, with walk-ins until 6pm and the last treatment ending at 7.30pm; beauty treatments run from 9am to 6pm, the steam room and plunge pools from 10am to 7pm. The menu recommends booking before arrival and arriving 15 minutes early, asks for 6 hours' notice to cancel and charges up to the full price for a late cancellation or a no-show.

Which treatments are offered, and at what price?

From the spa menu of March 2025: Elemis facials of 30 to 90 minutes, salt scrubs and wraps, the 90-minute Emerald Faarufushi Signature with Balinese Taksu massage, Thai, Balinese, deep tissue, warm stone and aromatherapy massages, Ayurvedic Shirodhara and Abhyanga, rituals of 120 and 150 minutes, a couples' journey and treatments for children.

The menu prints durations but no prices. The only published prices are in the summer 2026 programme: yoga classes at $30 and personal training at $70, plus 10% service and 17% GST. Guests in 2026 call the massages excellent; for prices, ask the spa.

Is it good for children?

Yes: the Dolphin Kids Club takes children from 3 to 12 with multilingual staff, indoors and out, and is on the plan; the Family Villas have a children's bedroom and 2 bathrooms. In July and August 2026 a Family Summer Fun Fest added classes, crafts and sport for children and teenagers.

According to Booking.com's fine print, 2 children under 14 can share their parents’ villa on the all-inclusive at $260 a night each, and from 14 they count as adults; the same listing’s house rules say 18. Cots are free. It is not adults-only, and anyone after that feel will be happier elsewhere; the spa has treatments for ages 5 to 11 and the dive centre’s Bubblemaker starts at 8.

What is on the island besides the villas?

According to the experiences page and the brochure: the Emerald Spa and its yoga pavilion, the Gym & Sports Center with Technogym equipment and a tennis and a padel court on the marina jetty, the water sports centre, the PADI 5-star dive centre, the Dolphin Kids Club and boutiques. Wi-Fi is included throughout.

The dive centre price list, dated April 2023, gives a dolphin tour at $70 a head, sunset fishing at $60 and a 15-minute jet ski at $125, plus tax and service. Drones are banned on the island, according to Booking.com. A doctor is on the island, as a guest stung by a jellyfish found in June 2026, and in October 2026 another noted that smoking is allowed at the main bar.

What offers are there?

Read on 6 October 2026: the Maldives Get Away Deal, 15% off the beach villas and 20% off the water villas on the all-inclusive, bookable until 30 April 2027 for stays until 23 December 2027; the Early Bird, 20% off for bookings made 30 days ahead, though the offers page says 60, and non-refundable within 30 days of arrival; and the Honeymoon offer, 20% off from 4 nights within a year of the wedding, with a couples' massage, champagne, a beach dinner and an upgrade if available.

The free Friends of Emerald club promises 10% off the best available rate, 20% off the spa and early check-in and late check-out, subject to availability. Its discounts and the honeymoon offer cannot be combined with other offers.

Can you get married at Emerald Faarufushi?

The official website publishes no wedding or vow-renewal package, no prices and no capacities. What it sells is the Honeymoon offer, from 4 nights within 12 months of the wedding, on a certificate shown at check-in; many of the Google reviews of 2026 come from honeymooners, a good number of them Korean.

Is there a New Year's Eve dinner?

Yes, and it is compulsory: according to Booking.com's fine print, anyone staying on 31 December pays the New Year Gala Dinner at $350 per adult and $175 per child aged 4 to 13, taxes included, and on 24 December the Christmas Gala Dinner at $250 and $125.

The official website publishes no menu or programme for New Year's Eve 2026. On Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, the nights from 27 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 showed no price.

Can you play golf?

No: the island has no golf course and the website no golf package. The summer 2026 programme lists a mini golf course on the beach, and the sports centre has a tennis court and a padel court.

When is it open, and when is the best season?

All year: the official website announces no seasonal closure, and its Get Away Deal covers stays from 1 October 2026 to 23 December 2027. On Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, every night from 8 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 had a price except 27 December to 3 January, which showed none.

The website does not describe the weather month by month. In July 2026 guests had rain on 3 of 6 days, each shower over in about half an hour, and in October 2026 a couple had bad weather for half of an 11-night stay; nights in early January cost 2 to 3 times those of mid-October.

How much does a night cost?

On Google Hotels, read on 6 October 2026, for 2 adults and one night, taxes and fees included: $1,099 on 8 October 2026, $937 on 14 October, $1,420 on 26 October, $2,050 on 6 November, $1,216 on 15 November, $1,211 on 8 December, $2,895 on 24 December, $2,685 on 9 January 2027 and $1,944 on 31 January 2027.

The calendar shows the lowest price among sellers and names neither the villa nor the plan; 7 October and the nights from 27 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 showed no amount. The transfer, the children's supplement and the compulsory gala dinners of 24 and 31 December are extra.

What do the reviews say?

On 3 October 2026 Google showed 4.9/5 from 199 ratings, Tripadvisor 5/5 from 4,103, with the Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best 2026 award, and Booking.com 9.9/10 from 209, with staff at 10 and value for money at 9.6.

In the 158 Google reviews with text written since the opening, from October 2022 to September 2026, 96% of those discussing the staff and services are positive, 97% of those discussing the villas and 92% of those discussing the location; of the 20 discussing value, 85% are happy. The à la carte tables must be booked, and the plan leaves out the spa and diving.

What taxes and charges are added?

The official offers give no tax breakdown. Booking.com's fine print adds a Green Tax of $12 per person per night from the age of 2; the dive centre's price list of April 2023 and the summer 2026 programme add a 10% service charge and GST, 17% since 1 July 2025 (MIRA, read on 15 October 2026). On top come the transfer, the children's supplement and, on 24 and 31 December, the compulsory gala dinners.

Google Hotels prices for the Maldives, on the other hand, include taxes and fees.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in from 2pm and check-out by noon, according to Booking.com and Expedia. Members of the Friends of Emerald club are promised early check-in and late check-out subject to availability, so with no guarantee in busy weeks.
