Soneva Secret suits couples and families who want their days to revolve around the villa, with meals brought to them and treatments in their own upstairs room. For a brief stopover, I would choose somewhere reached without a seaplane or domestic-flight connection.

Like a regular

Dhipparufushi from above: villas among the trees, the long beach and the jetties out to the water villas and the tower.
  1. The villa with children

For a stay with children, I would ask for the villa with a children's room and its own shower room; the living and dining spaces are on the ground floor.

  2. The week to price

For 7 consecutive nights from 12 January to 20 December 2026, pay 5: full board included, drinks excluded unless stated otherwise. Selected villas, new non-group bookings by 20 December 2026, subject to availability; no combined offers or repeater discount.

  3. The flight on top

The shared return seaplane is listed at $1,950 per adult and $975 per child; I would add the return transfer when setting the budget for the villa.

  4. Dessert at any hour

The cheese, chocolate and ice-cream rooms stay open 24 hours, so there is no need to fit them around dinner: I would save a visit for the way back to the villa.

What Soneva Secret is

Soneva Secret is the third Soneva resort in the Maldives, on Dhipparufushi, an island the journey page places «at the westernmost tip of the Maldives». The website counts 13 villas of 5 types: 2 on the beach, one over the water and 2 Sea Lofts out in the lagoon, reached only by boat. They run from 448 to 1,158 m², and every one has a freshwater pool, a gym, a treatment room, a kitchen and a roof that slides back above the bed; the water villas add a slide into the lagoon. The MICHELIN Guide gives it 3 Keys.

The sea and the service are the reasons to come. The resort speaks of manta rays, dolphins, turtles and coral reefs, and its Manta Encounter promises up to 50 mantas; in July 2026 a guest snorkelled 20 metres from his loft among eagle rays and Napoleon wrasse. The FAQ includes every meal in the villa rate, in the villa or at 3 restaurants, and the chocolate, ice-cream and cheese rooms never close; at night there is Out of This World, the tower in the lagoon with its observatory.

The island is far away, and getting there has a price. The shared seaplane is $1,950 per adult return, flies only in daylight and sometimes stops at other resorts: it is worth leaving a margin before the flight home. Soneva’s booking engine, read on 6 October 2026, asked $4,522 a night for the least expensive villa in the autumn and $6,000 from mid-January, full board and before tax.

What makes it rare

A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.

What to expect

Dinner wherever you like

The website lists 9 ways to eat: The Living Room from sunrise to evening, fire-led cooking at Primitive on the shore, the tasting menu at Out of This World, the Chef’s Table at the executive chef’s own station, a Champagne breakfast on a sandbank, the Sunset Embers barbecue and meals in the villa. The cheese, chocolate and ice-cream rooms are open around the clock, and there is a resident sommelier.

The spa is upstairs

Every villa has its own treatment room on the first floor and a gym, as the official floor plans show. The resort map also marks an Island Spa and a yoga platform; the infrared sauna, the cold plunge and the movement sessions are free. Massages are booked at any hour, in the villa.

A tower in the lagoon holding a dining room, a wine cellar and an observatory with a telescope, reached by zipline, according to the 2023 press release. The website calls it refined dining and rare wines beneath the stars; in 2024 a guest urged everyone to dine there.

Good to know before you book

  • The shared seaplane costs $1,950 per adult and $975 per child return, tax included. It flies only in daylight: anyone landing in Malé after 3pm sleeps in town and takes the first flight at 9am, or flies to Kulhudhuffushi, last departure 9.25pm, then 1 hour by speedboat. Manta Air’s shared seaplane may stop at other resorts; guests who miss the Soneva seaplane receive a $100 credit per person per journey.

  • The FAQ says every meal and the soft drinks in the minibar are included, yet the villa pages list only breakfast at The Living Room among their inclusions, and the offers present full board as a perk. Alcohol is extra; Soneva Unlimited, which adds it along with a daily treatment, costs $1,250 per adult per night.

  • The website counts 13 villas today; the 2023 press release counted 14, with «14 private chefs, one for each villa», and so do the MICHELIN Guide and Tripadvisor. The same website calls the atoll Haa Dhaalu on its home page and Makunudhoo on its dining page, and its file names keep the villas’ old names, Beach Hideaway and Crusoe.

  • On the island the clocks run 1 hour ahead of Malé, for more daylight, says the journey page.

  • Children stay and dine free, and every villa has a children’s room with its own bathroom. The website gives no ages for The Den, the kids’ club.

A loft with no bridge

In July 2026 a couple in a one-bedroom Sea Loft describe a villa cut off from the island, surrounded by water, with a kitchen, a gym, an infinity pool and a slide they used 20 or 30 times. Within 20 metres were shoals of fish, eagle rays and a Napoleon wrasse; breakfast and lunch came by speedboat.

Leaving by seaplane

In August 2026 a Korean couple on their eighth Maldives trip stayed 9 nights and remember the best tom yum of their lives. Departure went wrong: weather and refuelling delayed the seaplane, it stopped at Soneva Jani, and they only just caught their 1.05pm flight to Singapore.

From water to beach, with a child

In February 2025 a family moved from an overwater villa to a beach villa, which felt safer with an energetic child. They valued the women guardians assigned to their villa; they would have liked The Den a little bigger, as at the other Soneva resorts.

Questions before you go

The questions people ask before booking Soneva Secret, with the sources read between 2 and 6 October 2026.

What kind of resort is Soneva Secret?

Soneva’s third resort in the Maldives, after Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani, on an island of its own, Dhipparufushi. The home page speaks of 13 villas, which can also be booked as a whole island; the 2023 press release presented it as the first resort in its atoll, 30 years in the making, opening in early 2024. The MICHELIN Guide awards it 3 Keys.

The resort has 13 villas, according to the official site, read on 15 October 2026.

Which villas are there, and how big are they?

5 types, on the villas page. On the beach, the One-Bedroom Beach Villa, 448 m², and the Two-Bedroom Beach Pavilion, 1,158 m²; over the water, the One-Bedroom Horizon Overwater Villa, 461 m²; out in the lagoon, reached only by boat, the One-Bedroom Overwater Sea Loft, 461 m², and the Two-Bedroom Overwater Sea Loft, 1,108 m². These are total areas, as the official floor plans call them. Soneva’s booking engine, read on 6 October 2026, gives other figures: 530 m² for the One-Bedroom Beach Villa, 1,340 for the Pavilion, 465 for the overwater villa and the one-bedroom Sea Loft, 1,111 for the 2-bedroom Sea Loft.

Every villa has a freshwater pool, a gym, a treatment room, a children’s room with its own bathroom and a roof that slides open over the bed; the overwater villa and the Sea Lofts have a slide into the lagoon. The villa pages say «sleeps 3 adults» for one-bedroom villas and «6» for 2-bedroom ones, the floor plans 2 adults and 2 children, and 4 adults and 4 children. The website does not say how many villas there are of each type.

Where is it, and is it quiet?

On the island of Dhipparufushi, «at the westernmost tip of the Maldives», says the journey page; Google lists it under Kulhudhuffushi, postcode 02110. The website uses 2 names for the atoll: Haa Dhaalu on its home page, Makunudhoo on its dining page and in the 2023 press release.

It is a quiet island: in 2025 a family came looking for exactly that, a calm and almost empty island, and in July 2026 a couple described nights with barely any light pollution. Clocks run 1 hour ahead of Malé.

How do you get there from Malé, and what does the seaplane cost?

By seaplane: $1,950 per adult and $975 per child return on Manta Air’s shared flight, tax included, according to the price list on the journey page, which gives a 55-minute flight; the FAQ on the same page says 75. Soneva’s own seaplane costs $12,000 each way for up to 8 people, a Manta Air charter $7,500 for up to 12. Infants under 2 travel free.

You must land in Malé by 3pm; later than that, you sleep in town and take the first seaplane at 9am, or fly to Kulhudhuffushi, last flight at 9.25pm, and continue for 1 hour by speedboat. The shared flight may stop at other resorts: guests who do not travel on Soneva’s plane receive a $100 credit per person per journey. Soneva Jani is 30 minutes away by seaplane, Soneva Fushi 40.

Can you drive there or park?

No: it is an island, reached by seaplane or speedboat. On the island every villa has bicycles and tricycles, and electric buggies and children’s seats come on request, says the journey page.

How do you get into the sea?

From the beach villas you step out on to the sand; from the overwater villa and the Sea Lofts you go down into the lagoon by ladder or slide, and in the Sea Lofts the bath opens straight on to the water, according to the villa pages. In August 2026 a Korean couple wrote of the widest beaches they had seen in the Maldives.

In February 2025 a family left their overwater villa for one on the beach, which felt safer with an energetic child.

Is there a reef you can swim to?

The website does not use the words house reef: the home page says manta rays, dolphins, turtles and coral reefs «are a natural part» of Soneva Secret, and the experiences include guided snorkelling, the Big 5 Ocean Safari and the Manta Encounter, with up to 50 mantas. In July 2026 a guest snorkelled 20 metres from his loft among shoals of fish, eagle rays and a Napoleon wrasse.

Diving is run by the Soleni Dive Centre with PADI instructors; on a single dive the same guest counted at least 10 Napoleon wrasse. The 2023 press release also mentions whale sharks.

What are the pools like?

Every villa has its own freshwater pool on the terrace or deck, according to the villa pages; the Two-Bedroom Beach Pavilion has a long one, and the Sea Lofts have catamaran nets over the water. The resort map marks no shared pool, and the website gives no pool sizes.

In July 2026 a guest described the infinity pool of his loft, on the lagoon’s edge.

Are the pools heated, and when are they open?

The pools are private, so they are there whenever you are in the villa. The website does not say whether they are heated; the journey page gives an average air temperature of 30 °C all year and a sea of 22 to 28 °C.

Where do you eat, and how does it work?

The FAQ on the journey page lists breakfast in the villa or at The Living Room, and lunch and dinner in the villa, at The Living Room, Out of This World and So Primitive. The dining page adds the Secret Garden, the Secluded Alfresco Luncheon, a sandbank breakfast, the Sunset Embers barbecue and the Chef’s Table; the cheese and charcuterie, chocolate and ice-cream rooms are open 24 hours, and there is a resident sommelier.

Every villa has a kitchen; a private chef in the villa costs $125 per person per meal, plus tax and service. Tables are booked through the butler, and non-residents can dine on request. No opening hours are published.

Which meal plans are there, and what do they include?

According to the FAQ on the journey page, all dining is included in the villa rate, with the soft drinks in the minibar; alcohol is charged separately. Soneva Unlimited adds alcohol, a daily spa treatment and experiences: $1,250 per adult per night from age 12 and $625 per child aged 7 to 11, tax included.

The resort’s FAQ, read again on 15 October 2026, still states that all dining is included in the villa rates; the Stay Longer On Us offer, booked by 30 October for stays until 20 December 2026, adds free nights: 7 for the price of 5, or 4 for 3. In August 2026 a guest on Tripadvisor described meals at every restaurant, the minibar and one experience a day as included, drinks excepted.

What is the spa like?

The spa, Soneva Soul, lives mostly in the villas: the official floor plans show a treatment room on the first floor of each and a fully equipped gym. The map also marks an Island Spa, a gym and a yoga platform. The wellbeing page lists a free infrared sauna and cold plunge, private yoga and Pilates, a personal trainer and sound healing.

The website gives no size for the spa and does not mention a steam room.

Is the spa included, is there a fee, and can outside guests use it?

The infrared sauna, the cold plunge and the movement sessions are free, says the wellbeing page; treatments are paid for, except with Soneva Unlimited, which includes one a day, and the Romance Away offer, which includes a 60-minute couples’ massage.

No page publishes a day pass for anyone not staying on the island: the FAQ offers outside guests only dinner, on request.

What are the spa’s opening hours?

The Pamper Around the Clock experience brings massages to the villa at whatever hour suits you; no hours are published for the Island Spa or the gym. Yoga is at sunrise and sunset.

Which treatments are there, and what do they cost?

Among the experiences: So Secret, the resort’s signature ritual; massages at any hour; Soulful Slumber, for sleep; the Peaceful Mind meditation and The Six Doors soul path. The website publishes no price list; one treatment a day comes with Soneva Unlimited, at $1,250 per adult per night.

Is it good for children?

Yes. The villa pages say children stay and dine free and include time at The Den, the kids’ club; every villa has a children’s room with its own bathroom, and cots and high chairs are requested before arrival, says the journey page. The website gives no ages for the club and no minimum age.

In 2025 a family praised The Den’s instructor; in December 2025 a guest recommended the island to couples and families. For transfers a child is 2 to 11; for Soneva Unlimited, 7 to 11.

What is there on the island besides the villas?

According to the resort map: The Living Room, with a library, games room and boutique, the gym, watersports, the Island Spa, the dive centre, The Den, the organic garden, the yoga platform and the arrival jetty. Non-motorised watersports are free; so is the Wi-Fi, which you can switch off in the villa.

A doctor is on the island 24 hours a day; the nearest clinic is less than 18 minutes away by speedboat, the hospital in Malé. Drones are banned almost everywhere.

Which offers are there?

Read on 6 October 2026, for stays until 20 December 2026: Stay Longer On Us, 7 nights for the price of 5 or 4 for 3, with full board; Romance Away, for one-bedroom villas only and from 4 nights, with a candlelit dinner at Primitive, a 60-minute couples’ massage, a floating breakfast and a sunset cruise; Island to Island, 3 nights here and 3 at Soneva Fushi or Soneva Jani, with the seaplane between islands included. The first 2 ask a 25% deposit at booking.

Can you get married at Soneva Secret?

Yes: the events page offers tailor-made weddings and vow renewals, and the whole island for up to 50 guests across the 13 villas. Prices and packages are not published; you write to the events team with your dates, group size and purpose.

In December 2025 a guest wrote that the resort had arranged their proposal, the first in its history. The website does not say whether a ceremony held there is legally binding.

Is there a New Year’s Eve dinner?

Yes. In the Festive 2026 programme, on 31 December a hand-drawn linen map arrives at sunset, every guest seals a wish to be posted back to them a year later, and dinner moves around the resort until its final course at The 1am Kitchen. The tree is lit on 22 December, Christmas Eve is a dinner shared with the chef, and 1 and 2 January bring a long brunch by the beach.

The programme prints no prices and notes that some experiences carry a charge and must be booked ahead.

Can you play golf?

No: none of the resort’s 23 experiences is golf, and the map marks no course. There are watersports, diving, deep-sea fishing and the zipline.

When is it open, and when is the best season?

It is open all year, and guests have written about stays as recent as September 2026. It opened in 2024: the press release said «early 2024», the trade press announced 10 January or 9 February. On 6 October 2026 the booking engine was selling nights from October 2026 to February 2027 and showed only 27 to 30 December as closed.

The journey page gives the dry season as November to April and the monsoon as May to October, which brings more plankton and so more manta rays.

How much does a night cost?

On Soneva’s booking engine, read on 6 October 2026 for 2 adults in the One-Bedroom Beach Villa, the least expensive villa, a night cost $4,522 on 20 October, 10 November and 5 December 2026, $10,166 on 22 December, and $6,000 on 15 January and 10 February 2027. That is the Best Available Rate with Full Board, before tax; the minimum stay is 3 nights, 4 over the holidays, and for a single night, on 10 November, the engine returned no rate.

Government Tax and the Green Tax bring the night to $5,949.63 in the autumn and $7,886.40 from mid-January: the engine charges 31.04% on the villa, where the journey page says 29.92%, plus a $24 Green Tax for 2. Until 11 January 2027 the shared seaplane is extra, $1,950 per adult return; from 12 January it is included in the rate, for the villa’s base occupancy. Booked ahead, the Advance Purchase Offer came down to $5,400 on 15 January and 10 February. Cancellation is free up to 30 days before arrival, 90 over the holidays; Google Hotels, the same day, showed no prices.

What do the reviews say?

On 2 October 2026 Google gave 4.9/5 from 21 ratings, Tripadvisor 5/5 from 41, with a Travellers’ Choice award, and Expedia 9.5/10 from 150. Of the 15 Google reviews with text, every one that mentions the location, the villas or the service is positive.

The butlers, the privacy, the villas, the food and the sea keep coming back. The shared seaplane can stop at other resorts, so it is worth leaving a margin before the flight home.

Which taxes and charges are added?

On the villa, 29.92%: 10% service charge, a 2% carbon offset tax and 17% GST, plus a Green Tax of $12 per person per night, according to the FAQ on the journey page; the terms of the offers mention only service charge, GST and Green Tax. The seaplane, the CIP service and Soneva Unlimited include tax; a speedboat from another resort carries 23.2%.

A guest in August 2026, on Tripadvisor, notes that laundry costs $10 per item, given to the Soneva Foundation, whereas the villa pages list laundry among the inclusions.

What time can you check in and out?

The website does not publish check-in and check-out times, and the Google Hotels listing shows none. The seaplanes decide: you land in Malé by 3pm on arrival, you leave for international flights from 10am until about 4.30pm, and your butler gives the time the evening before, says the journey page.
