Like a regular

Meradhoo from the air, the green island with its arrival jetty and the ocean around it
  1. The villa to ask for

I would ask for an Overwater Pool Villa: the Marriott page promises direct access to the water for snorkelling from the private deck, an infinity pool and a king bed, with a choice of sunrise or sunset side.

  2. The week to consider

Consider 1–7 June 2027: single nights for 2 adults ranged from $2,482 to $2,624 on Google, read 12 October 2026. The dearest nights shown, 25–27 December 2026, were $4,928.

  3. Water sports on top

Kayaking is among the included activities; the Marriott page lists a jet ski at $305 an hour and boating at $600 an hour apart from them.

  4. The free nurse shark trip

The nurse shark trip is complimentary: the Marriott page describes an afternoon excursion by dhoni, just minutes from the resort, with refreshing beverages served onboard.

What The Halcyon Private Isles Maldives is

The resort opened on Meradhoo in May 2011 as Jumeirah Dhevanafushi (Dreaming of Maldives, Hotelier Middle East); after an architecture and interiors refit it reopened in May 2019 as Raffles Maldives Meradhoo (Archiscene). Since 1 November 2025 it has been The Halcyon Private Isles Maldives, the first Maldives resort in Marriott’s Autograph Collection; it is owned by Singapore’s CDL Hospitality Trusts (Singapore Exchange announcement, The Edge Singapore).

There are 38 villas, and each has a pool, an outdoor shower, a Bose sound system and a butler (official site). The beach villas are on Meradhoo; the overwater villas sit on an island of their own, linked by a boat that runs at any hour and takes about 2 minutes (List Magazine, Mango Pancakes). Sizes run from 220 to 300 m², and The Halcyon Grand Estate reaches 1,250 (2026 factsheet).

There are 3 restaurants: Thari on the beach, from 7am to 10.30pm; Yuzu over the water, Nikkei cooking between Peru and Japan, 5 days a week; and The Firepit, the grill on the sand, 2 evenings a week (restaurants). The bars are Bell Bar, named after the explorer H. C. P. Bell, and Yapa, over the water, for sake, pisco and mezcal at sunset. There is no buffet: everything is à la carte (The Telegraph, Islandii).

The reason to come this far is the sea. There are 2 house reefs, one off each island; from the overwater villas a ladder drops straight onto the coral (official site, Islandii). The Telegraph counts green and hawksbill turtles, reef sharks, stingrays and spotted eagle rays along a reef a kilometre long (The Telegraph); the nurse shark trip is free and the equator is 90 minutes away by boat (experiences). On Google the resort scores 4.8 out of 5 from 35 reviews, on Tripadvisor 5 out of 5 from 1,591, read on 5 October 2026.

In the Lumina Guide

Lumina Guide 2027

The Halcyon, formerly Raffles Maldives Meradhoo, is a resort you travel to for the sea: 2 house reefs, one off each island, start a few metres from the sand, and each of the 38 villas has a pool and a butler.

How we choose the hotels

Our reading, point by point

What we found reading the hotel’s own pages, one thing at a time.

  1. Location

In the far south, 387 km from Malé: 90 minutes by seaplane or a domestic flight and a boat.

  2. Character

2 islands, 38 villas and a butler for each; Bell’s story and the equator’s sea.

  3. Rooms

Every villa has a pool, from 220 m² to 1,250 m²; the overwater villas step down onto the reef.

  4. Food and social life

3 à la carte restaurants, Yuzu over the water, private dinners in the sand or on a sandbank.

  5. Wellness

An overwater spa with 4 rooms, sunrise yoga and sunset meditation.

  6. The stay as a whole

From $1,628 to $2,336 a night for 2, taxes and fees included, in the stays read on Google.

What makes it rare

A badge is an experience travellers look for, that is really here and that few hotels in the guide have.

What the badges are

The 5 things that matter, as guests tell them

What do The Halcyon’s guests say? They write it in their reviews, even those who only came for a drink or dinner: we read every one and tell the 5 things that matter, from the location to the bill.

  1. Location

9 in 10 guests who mention it are happy with it. The island, the lagoon and the reef are praised almost unanimously; more than one guest warns that the journey from Malé is long.

  2. Room

Guests write of spacious, spotless villas, on the beach or over the water, with a large private pool, an outsized bed and ocean views.

  3. Staff and service

Every guest who mentions it is happy with it. The butlers are named in almost every review, the marine biologist in several.

  4. Breakfast

Breakfast is à la carte at Thari, on the beach, from 7am: Western, Asian and sweet dishes, with no buffet.

  5. Price

A night for 2 runs from $1,628 to $2,336, taxes and fees included, on the stays read on Google; every villa has its own pool and a butler.

Where The Halcyon leads

  • Location

On location it shares first place with Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa among the 4 hotels compared in the Maldives.

  • Staff and service

On staff and service it comes ahead of the 3 other hotels it is compared with in the Maldives.

The scores come from 33 Google reviews with text, left from 18 November 2025 to 5 October 2026. The other hotels are the ones weighed for a stay in the Maldives: for each we read its latest 500 Google reviews with text, or all of them where there are fewer, as of 5 October 2026. The score is the average of what they say, from 0 if they speak of it very badly to 10 if they speak of it very well. Where only a few mention something, the score stays close to the guide’s average: a handful of voices does not make a reputation.

The hotels we weigh it against in the Maldives:

  • Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa
  • The Residence Maldives at Falhumaafushi
  • Ayada Maldives
  • Six Senses Laamu

Price: for two on the night of 9 June 2027, from $2,469 (seen on Google Hotels on 12 October 2026).

What a night costs, season by season

Single nights for 2 adults run from $2,469 to $2,791 between 9 May and 29 August 2027 and from $2,830 to $3,769 from 10 January to 8 May, against $4,413 to $4,928 from 23 December to 9 January. I would price a stay rather than a night: for 3 nights from 7 June 2027, the reading of 5 October 2026 showed the lowest seller at $1,628 a night, against $2,495 on the one-night calendar.
